I stopped by for a walk-in ski boot fitting. I was added to a short waitlist. After a few minutes, the tech, named Ernie, greeted me. Ernie was friendly and seemed eager to help despite the approaching closing time. Ernie measured my foot size and got to work having me try a few different boots/sizes. Ernie didn't get the slightest bit annoyed with all of my finicky notes about where my foot fit and where it was too uncomfortable. It took some doing, but we were able to narrow the boots down to something that was comfortable, fit well, and was great quality. I needed a helmet for skiing. I have been putting it off because I suffer from headaches. Ski helmets don't work for me, go figure? I have tried everything. I have called manufacturers to see if I can get a custom helmet but no avail. So I decided this year to give it another try. I ask for help at the front counter and a very nice woman, Ginny, says she can. I explain my headaches and how helmets haven't been working for me. I also explain for some reason bike helmets work but ski helmets don't. She said she completely understands for many of her friends suffer from headaches. She told me she liked the Giro helmet, the entry level one, it is simple and rests higher on the forehead. I gave it a try and we waited a few minutes to see what happens. She told me not to tighten it down for a helmet lose is better than a helmet at all. She is speaks wisdom there. Well it worked, after about 10 minutes no pain, no headache. The helmet was loose but it wasn't giving me a headache! She also encouraged me to get a pair of googles to go with the helmet and the Giro goggles fit the helmet wonderfully. I was a bit worried, so much on the head but it worked! When I go again, I will definitely make sure Ginny in working that day. She understands what skiers need! read more

Broke strings on my tennis racket and decided to go to Sturtevant's for stringing. I also wanted to demo a new model for a game while mine was being strung. This was the day after a big snowstorm so I called to see if they were open. They didn't quite laugh at me, but it was like "of course we're open". Sturtevant's is a dominant supplier of ski and snowboard equipment so you better believe when there's snow in the lowlands there's business here. So I've put them to the test as an ex-merchandise buyer, and I've talked to all the tech reps in the industry over the years. Gone thru more boot fits that imaginable... Forget local, there is nobody even in Whistler that is more knowledgable, crafty, and passionate as Davis in the snowboard boot fitting dept! He knows the tech in and out, can read your foot, tell you what brands to stay away from, fit checks you in the shell without the liner (rare these days), custom fits liners in ways other shops dont even dare, blowsout hot spots in the shell, and makes custom insoles that take 45mins to mold (that last 20+ years) for all boots. Davis is a absolute wizard and his hourly rate less than the competition, plus he offers more customizations. For ex. I have a size 10 left and a size 10.75 right foot with a big toe that really protrudes. With his magic I can now ride a 9 1/2 for the first time and it's the most performace fit yet. A colleague recommended Sturtevant's for new skis. I went in first thing Saturday morning and Otto greeted me at the door and took me back to the ski section. He patiently spent almost 2 hours with me helping me find the perfect boot. Otto placed the boots on hold for me while I shopped elsewhere to assure that I was getting the best product and price for me. I went to a few more stores and found nothing like the amazing customer service and knowledge that Otto provided. He educated me on every aspect of the sport, was patient with my many questions, and truly showed that he had my best interest in mind. I have bought all my ski boots at Sturtevant's for the last 20 years or so. They give excellent service and are very committed to making sure your ski boots fit. I ended up with a pair of boots in spring of 2023 that just didn't work. I brought them in 7 times for adjustment. Here in fall of 24, I went in and got new boots. I also brought back the ones from last year. They have a 2 year fit guarantee, and refunded the purchase price of that pair of boots, no questions asked. REI is a better place to shop. I bought a Mammut jacket that fell apart in 5 weeks. Went to Mammut website and it says 'if you bought this at REI, take it there... all others go through our (horrible) warranty process'. Then I get an email saying 'pick a new jacket' but none of them are comparable to what I had bought. Go back to Sturtevants and they only offer store credit. All in all, my take away was buy this stuff at REI. They are a better retailer. read more

Joaquin is the absolute best. He's incredibly sweet and understanding. My board had a small area of delamination and I brought my board in for a warranty replacement. It took a little over a month due to k2 not responding to both he and I. Finally due to the wait I ended up getting a brand new k2 passport that I was able to shred on at Mt. Bachelor and it was all thanks to Joaquin. He's already the manager, but he should definitely get a promotion, raise, or at least a bonus! The staff at Sturtevants offers something that no online retailer offers: hands-on expertise in recommending and fitting ski gear. Take something that seems as simple as a ski boot footbed insole that provides better arch support than standard ski boot insoles that are pretty flat and useless. The arch height on the insoles comes in low, medium, and high. I thought selecting the right arch height was just a matter of stepping on an insole and figuring out what arch height felt right. It was great to have Colin come over to offer his assistance. He had me flex my toes up with my foot up in the air and then had me stand on the same foot. I learned from Colin that my foot actually has a fairly high arch, but my arch is flexible so it only seems moderate in height when standing on the foot. Based on that, Colin suggested that the insoles with the high arch is the right fit for my foot. If some knowledge is that helpful in selecting something like an insole, the amount of knowledge needed for proper boot fitting or finding the right skis is even higher. That's why shopping at a great local ski shop such as Sturtevants makes sense for something as complex as ski equipment. Thanks Colin! read more

I went looking for court shoes and was greeted immediately by an employee who asked if he could help me. He directed me to where I would find the shoes. Going downstairs, I was immediately greeted by three employees who were busy stringing rackets. One came over and asked if he could help me find the shoes I was looking for. I can't rave enough about this place. My wife and I went here to buy skis. They were fantastic. Michael helped us, and we call him our "ski guru," who lead us on a journey to discover which skis were calling to us. Rather than jump into suggesting skis or boots as soon as he met us, he took the time to know what kind of skiers we were, what we wanted to achieve on the mountain now, and where we saw ourselves in the future. After that, he looked at the shape of our feet. Only after he was armed with the knowledge of the type of skier we are (and want to be) and how are feet are shaped did he even start picking out boots. He also adjusted my wife's boots on the spot to make sure they fit better. He used the same methodology for picking skis and bindings. He spent at least 3 hours with us and stayed 30-45 minutes after closing just to finish our process. Since then, we have taken our skis out on the slopes a couple times. After each time, we have needed some tweaks in our boots and brought them back. Brandt in the fitting shop has helped us both times and he is fantastic as well. Just by looking at our feet and listening to our experiences on the slopes, he immediately diagnosed what was going on in our boots. He took his time with us and has improved our boots so much. We never felt rushed by either of them and felt so enthusiastic to get on the slopes after each time we went to Sturtevant's. As an FYI, we live in Tacoma, but still made the trek up to Bellevue. We actually picked up one of our pairs of boots and skis in Tacoma, and they picked up where the Bellevue folks left off by mounting the bindings. read more

I came here to get some new ski boots. My current boots were tight at the point where your toes meet your foot, but too loose to hold my ankle in place. Lucas asked questions about the issues and about my skiing ability. He knew I wanted a stiffer boot, but guided me down from a 130 to a 120. I tested them yesterday, and found that my ankle stayed in place, the boot held firm has I pressed forward into the turn. My skis felt more responsive, and I managed to stay forward more so than normal. I still have some fitting work to do, but Lucas said he and the crew will work through that. The most important thing is to have a boot that make me a better skier. read more

I can't say enough about my last 2 years of experience with Sturtevant's. I've been going to them since I was a kid but the last two times working with them has been a solid reminder of why they will continue getting my business. This past weekend after a mediocre experience with another shop, I walked in to get my daughter a complete new ski setup. We worked with Otto discussing skis/bindings first with a few options, while the boot area was a little busy. We came up with 1-2 choices then moved over to boots while thinking about skis/bindings. He walked us through a couple boot options taking into account that she is 11 and her feet will likely grow a bit over the season. He made sure they were not going to be too big right away but would be comfortable and pack out as her feet grow a bit. He made some boot adjustments after we dialed in on a pair which dramatically improved the fit. We then reviewed the ski options again and settled on the middle of the 3 options as they will work with her "racing needs", while providing aligning with her future with more focus on all mountain and fun riding next season. This goes along with my experience last year where they worked with me on fitting snowboard boots last season. I've had 6 different pairs over the last 4 years and nothing met my foot issue needs. Colin worked with me to identify a boot which they didn't have available. He suggested I pick a set up from another store and then he would work to dial them in. Customer service at its best. I ended up with a number of other items last from them because he did what was right for me, not simply selling me something to sell me something. This review is for their ski tuning and service center. I brought my skis in to get bindings mounted. They said they had an opening to get it done by the next day so I was like great! I come in the next day, skis haven't been done yet, no worries, I can wait 20 minutes. I come back after 20 minutes and my skis aren't finished, no worries so I wait another 15 minutes. I come back, my skis are done, but with someone else's bindings! The guy is very apologetic, offers me free tunes and a refund on the mounting. Now I'm pretty annoyed, not so much the waiting, but the fact these are brand new skis and multiple binding drills is not great for the ski and the mounting location is now compromised. But he says he can still mount them in the same location, so I say ok. Wait another 15 minutes. Finally, they're done with the correct bindings! He then offers me the free tunes again, but this time, leaves out the mounting refund. Up until this point he's very apologetic. I kindly remind him to include the mounting refund and his tone completely changes. He starts being short with me, huffing and puffing. He reluctantly gives me the refund of the mount job, doesn't say sorry or see ya later, just basically signaling I'm tired of you now. If this guy had just been consistent and kept to his word I probably wouldn't be writing this review. So if they screw up your skis, drill holes by mistake and then try to not refund you, don't let that sh** slide. Sturtevant's, I think you need to train your ski tune crew on some customer service skills! read more

Remarkably, Ryan got me into the right skis and boots and Ben put the whole package together by 5:30pm.
