They scheduled us on a Sunday putting on a Mini Cooper bike rack, at 11am and said it would be done not later than 5pm!! Putting one man on a job for this huge job was a huge mistake. It took over 7 hours and we live 1-1/2 hours from his shop! Owner never should have had us come in at 11:00am either only one man onion until we started calling at 3;30-4pm asking ho we no much longer! Never go on a Sunday to have a bike rack installed!! This was way too long for this job and not enough help for one guy working installing a bike rack! Owner had no idea how long 7 HOURS on a job which should have been completed much earlier! Owner had no idea but insisted it could be done by 5pm! WRONG!! Do NOT believe The owner. Book a shop closer than our 1.5 hours to get home as we finally reveived our car at 6:05pm at night! PLUS it's evening traffic!! This was nutts to go in on a Sunday! This owner should havenBooked our install at 8 am on a weekday and not 11am on a Sunday!!!! Book an owner closer to your home to avoid the headache and frustration of a 7 + hrs wait! We are snoebirddd so do not have a second car here in Lake Stevens WA. Think before you book this bike rack install, book a group that puts more than one installer on a Mini Cooper! Run elsewhere. Do not trust him !Our install was longer than promised!! Over Thanksgiving, I was up in Seattle and had brought a rack with me to move a kayak home. I screwed up, though, and left the key for my Thule rails on my car in California, so I wasn't able to attach the kayak rack. I called Rack N Road and they were able to get me a new key! They saved the day and I was able to attach the rack to my car's roof and get the kayak home over the holiday. read more

Buyer Beware!!! Sadly, we assumed this company had the professional knowledge to install a roof rack without completely destroying our brand-new vehicle. Boy, were we wrong! Not only did this company fail to fully quality check upon completion of their rack install so that there would be no interference with our sunroof system, they failed to disclose any caution regarding this upon delivery. This begs the question; did they even have the professional awareness to account for this potential issue?! I paid a premium to have my racks installed by what I perceived to be a professional and competent operation. Incredibly Rack n Roof produced such a huge amateur and costly mistake. Roof n Rack advertise themselves as licensed and bonded and backed by warranty. Total misleading! When I reached out to them for financial support, they bounced it up to their manager, Evan, who just sheepishly shrugged off their mistake as they felt enough time had elapsed from the date of their install to negate any compensation. Interesting how they can manifest their own rules in order to escape their blatant error. The shocking part is the fact that this company markets itself as they do and have zero honorability or credibility to their customers to back it up. Don't let the vast experience they pitch on their website fool you, just be careful consumers. They are not above the law! Here is a sample of their fine work. A little late writing this review. These guys are extremely knowledgeable and super friendly and helpful. I first contacted them in mid summer 2022 to get help with a Thule roof rack for my Subaru. Before that I was dealing directly with Thule (complete waste of time), they repeatedly shipped the wrong parts and the roof rack system itself was questionable (for a RTT). REI was no help either (zero knowledge). These guys tho, 100% know what they are doing. I ended up sending the Thule back to Thule and buying several different racks (Yakima roof & hitch) for my Subaru to drive to Baja. Can't recommend these guys enough. 100% happy on every level. I drove there several times from Bellingham and would do it again (the traffic is pretty terrible) if the times comes that I need more/different racks. Thank you Rack N Road :-) read more

I stopped in three months ago and put down a deposit for a bumper hitch. The guy at the counter explained to me that they were really busy and it would be three weeks until they could get to it. I've called there a dozen times or so to get status; they have a crappy phone tree with a recording that explains how busy they are and that they can't be bothered to take calls, so just leave a message. Messages are not being returned. Ever. When I press the number to be put through to sales (apparently, they are glad to take your money!!), then some guy tells me they have my parts and promises to call back later with an appointment date, but he never calls back. This scenario has played out probably 7-8 times for me. I can only imagine that they can get away with this level of crappy service because there must be zero competition nearby. I give these guys five turds for their level of service and honesty. read more

I accidentally put this Review on the Seattle store, But it was meant for the Bellevue Store. I originally went here because of a few recommendations from freinds. but also they are the closest to us in Bellevue. I took my Tesla Model S to them to get recommendations for a Hitch and a Bike Rack. Understandably during Covid-19 they were a rushed when dealing with customers, but the front desk person I talked to just assured me that the hitch he chose was the right one for my car and that it would have enough clearance and the recommendation of the Kuat Nv 2.0 would be fine. Two weeks later when I took the car in they were super busy and short about any communication (also understandable) they took the car and got it done by the end of the day. Here is where it got bad: 1.When I saw the car it looked like they had gouged the whole out of the bottom, it did not look like any care was taken when installing the hitch. 2. Before I finished payment of last installment, I told them that the hitch install was too low and came out too far to have any clearance. They said yeah but I would have to pay them to change it. ??@#$!@!# WHAT ? I just paid you to install it and you want me to pay you to install it properly ? I did not get that. So the front desk person Jayme, gave me his card. and Said for me to try out the hitch and if I have problems to give them an email and he will get me taken care of with a place that does custom installs for them. 3. I Emailed them after hitting the hitch multiple times on normal driving. No RESPONSE. 4. I emailed them again. NO RESPONSE. Then I emailed Torklift in Kent, Sent them pictures of my car and the hitch install, They said that it was installed too low and that this car would need a custom install to have good clearance. The thing that got me the most was that I shouldn't have paid for the full install until they fixed this. His ability to sell me on pay now and we will take care of you later makes me never trust this place again. If you want a good install with a sound sleep to go with it. Go elsewhere. read more

There's honestly no competition for this business, so it could be much worse, because the people seem cool and honest, and if you're the typical Bellevue resident, this might be your best bet for brick 'n mortar shopping. Having no option, I approached them for a rack and asked for the very simplest of options, telling them that I just couldn't afford much. All I needed was a way to secure things locally and was willing to give up every luxury. If a bar on top of your car really justifies a $1000 price tag, then I'm confused and out of touch. Many of us aren't in that tax bracket and it's a shame that businesses like this feel the need to squeeze even those of us who can't justify that kind of expense for a bar. I don't mean to question the integrity of those working there because they do seem like they're doing their best, and it can't be easy to run a business these days at a location that must cost so much in rent or taxes, but it is a shame that folks like me who aren't Microsoft kids can't just shop for some safe and helpful solutions to carrying our equipment at a price that isn't less than a months rent. I honestly think they could do much more business if they tried to serve a greater range of folks. Ultimately, businesses like this are the reason that prices are so high for solutions that should be so simple. They blame COVID or recession or whatever, but they know they're not being honest. Why do they feel they need to upsell products to a person like me who flatly admits that they can't afford much? They represent their products as necessary and they balk at the competition as being unworthy of rational consideration. In my humble opinion, they could do much better as a business if they served everyone who needed a rack instead of rolling their eyes at those who didn't need the premium option. But they're in Bellevue Washington, and they probably have enough business from local folks, and they're probably right. Why do people shop online? This is why. I got a rack that was exactly what I needed for -- I'm not exaggerating-- 1/17 the price, and it was no problem to install myself. I keep wondering what I sacrificed for shopping online, because I'd really prefer to interact with kind humans, but there is the problem: these people are incentivized to grift their customers. It used to be the case that this level of deception was reserved for used-car salesmen, and those businesses weren't known for doing well. This business is located in a wealthy neighborhood and if you're wealthy, I expect you'll be happy. They represent quality products, and if they snigger at you after you leave the store, you'll probably be out of earshot, so it won't really matter. read more

Called these guys to order replacement keys for my roof rack after mine were stolen. Had to prepay for 2 keys and asked if they could be drop shipped. They said they would get back to me as soon as they confirmed and I should expect them within a week. 3+ weeks later on a Saturday I called them back and they had no idea what was going on and said they would call me back on Monday. No call. I called Tuesday and they offered no acknowledgment just said they were really busy. I called AGAIN 2 days later and they said they had to reorder them and I could pick them up the following Tuesday. Great! I drive to Bellevue to get them and there is only 1 of the 2 keys I ordered and nobody has any idea why. So NOW they will order another key and mail it to me. What are the odds I will actually get it? The young lady who helped me was very nice and helpful but the male staff were wholly unreliable. Bought a Thule rack from these folks - paid to have it assembled and installed. Asked to come back the next day to pick it up. Sent my son the next day to get it - not ready. Said would be 2-4 days. Ended up just taking it and will put together myself. If they'd been honest up front I'd have saved time and energy not coming all the way back to pick it up. Horrible customer service. I ordered a hitch and it took them 6 months to get it in, only to tell me it's the wrong hitch for the car. I then ordered a different hitch which their tech center confirmed it was correct and agreed to install for 399. After coming in to the Bellevue location to schedule the install appointment (they don't ever answer the phone), they informed me that this second hitch was the wrong one. Again after agreeing to install a few weeks ago. This service is ridiculous and now I am out 300. read more

After failing at the attempt to install a Rhino-Rack Backbone for the Pioneer Platform on my 2016 Toyota 4Runner, I contacted Jayme Mayfield at Rack N Road for help. Jayme and team were amazing. They graciously installed the 2nd rail that I just could not get to sit right in the channel and checked my work to ensure there was no risk of leaks. I was nervous about finishing the rest of the install myself but the platform was too big to transport to the shop. Jayme assured me he'd arrange for pickup at my house if I needed help. Wanted a bike rack for 3 bikes with future option for e-bikes. My current rack has me deadlifting bikes over my head, needing to hang them super precisely, and then tying them down with rubber bungee type fasteners. An ordeal + has never felt safe. Went to Gregg's in bellevue with same question and service was poor, so remembered Passport discount with rack n road. Walked into shop and walked out 15 mins later with purchase made and estimated install date in a week. Person that I worked with demo'd me the same rack on his car. Talked about prospect of upgrading to 4 bikes in future and he mentioned opportunity to resell through private market or Rack N Road the 1 bike add on attachment to help fund future 2 bike add on attachment. I have a fifth wheel trailer that needed a custom solution to carry some bikes on the back. It has a permanent, flat metal luggage-type carrier on the back that needed to be fitted with a rack, but I couldn't find anything out of the box that would work. I called several places and none had any good suggestions. I had never been to Rack N Road before, but they had good reviews so I thought I would ask what they would suggest. I had a trailer hitch installed here recently and everything went pretty smooth and it was installed in a timely manner. The guys I dealt with definitely knew their stuff. I did deduct one star because even though everything went well, I did feel like the person I worked with seemed to be more worried about setting up an install time when I still was asking questions about the whole process...and they charged my cc days before the actual work was done. This could just be me being sensitive, but that's how I took it. They certainly are a lot more expensive than Amazon or other online dealers for the same exact part, but I guess that's how they pay their rent and for their competent & knowledgeable staff. My advice to some of the staff, maybe cool it a little on the close...just a little. read more

In preparation for winter, I ordered tire chains from R-n-R. I was told the chains would arrive in a couple of weeks and that someone would call me in two weeks once they arrived. Several weeks passed with no news so I stopped in to check on the status and was told that they had a big order coming in and it would be a few more weeks. Again, time passed with no update and at this point winter was approaching so I walked in, again, and was told to wait another two weeks. I asked to cancel my order and the person at the counter seemed annoyed but refunded my order. No apologies, no explanation why my order was not fulfilled as initially stated only a scowl and frustration that I canceled my order. I guess the shop didn't feel I was in convinced. I will not order something from them but I suppose if the item I need is in stock then I would have no reason not to shop there. In the end I ordered online from another retailer and received the tire chains in the time that was promised me. read more

Although I've had good luck every time I've been there, it was my most recent visit that really earned them the five stars. I used my roof rack a while ago, and didn't get around to taking it off and putting it away promptly. In the meantime, I lost two of the four caps that keep rain and dirt off the roof rack mounts. I phoned to ask whether they had replacements, and they said yes - and they're free! I went in the next day, and sure enough, they promptly retrieved two replacements from the back room. I'd imagine that they're cheap enough that it doesn't cost them much to replace them when people lose them, but it's a nice customer service surprise. I hadn't been to the store in quite a while. Three years ago we planned a road trip to Yellowstone, and there was no way we could fit all our stuff (two adults and a baby) inside the car. I had done my research, trying to find a trailer hitch mount for my Camry Hybrid, but I couldn't find them anywhere. I visited the store, and they explained that Toyota advises against pulling a trailer with the car; it throws off the load balance. Instead, I would need a roof rack and cargo box. To competently choose what I would need, they had to teach me quite a bit about the products I could choose. After their customer education, and my study of the products I could get, I ended up Yakima roof rack, with a large Inno streamlined cargo box. To mount the rack to the car would require four mounting pads, each about the size of a magic marker, permanently attached to the roof. The rack (or the covers I just replaced) mounted to the pads, and the cargo box clamped to the rack. Several different cargo boxes would have fit my needs; I chose that specific one because it was a display unit with a minor scuff, at a nice discount from regular price. They needed my car for a while to attach the mounting pads. I don't remember how long it took, but they did the job as promised. It was all ready with time to spare for packing for the trip, and it worked well on the trip and in subsequent uses. And the roof rack without the box has been useful for transporting oversize cargo like plywood. Even farther into the past, I bought a Curt trailer hitch for my previous car, a Corolla. (Although it was smaller than the Camry, its design allowed for trailers.) Rack 'n' Road didn't have that model of hitch in stock, and didn't mind that I mail-ordered one rather than having them special-order it for me. I installed it myself, and returned for the hitch ball and other towing gear. They double-checked my installation while I waited, correcting the torque on one of the bolts that I hadn't been able to tighten all the way. And for occasions when I didn't need an entire trailer, they sold me a cool thing I hadn't known about: a platform that mounts to the trailer hitch behind the car. (I would have liked to use it with my Camry, if that were an option.) The gear all worked nicely with the smallest model of U-Haul trailer, which was a great way to move lots of stuff for cheap. I'm sure I'll be back, next time I need to haul something outside the car. A bicycle rack might be nice . . . read more

I was looking for a rooftop tent for my Tacoma and stopped in at Rack N Road. Danny and Jayme were extremely knowledgeable and friendly. They took lots of time going over all of the different options and consulting with me as to which tent would best fit my needs. We settled on a FSR tent that was a great fit for my needs and price. When I went in for installation I had a chance to meet the rest of their crew. They were also all very professional, friendly and experienced in mounting up the rack and tent. I had some unique requirements in how I wanted it mounted and they were able to come up with a perfect solution! I love my tent and highly recommend this shop if you are looking for a RTT. Was in a week or so ago. Was very disappointed when I tried to sell some old Thule gear (crossbars, fairing, towers and ski rack) in good condition and was offered $60 for the whole thing. I looked at how much they sell this used for which was: Ski rack - $100 Towers - $100 Didn't see price for crossbar or fairing Very disappointed that they tried to rip me off like that and tell me that they didn't think they could sell them. Jayme and his crew are awesome! They got me outfitted with everything I needed to get an ikamper set-up. Jayme explained all of my options with what would work to mount my tent, leaving options open for future add-ons. This is is exactly why we need brick and mortar stores!! You can't get the expertise, experience and assurance everything is going too work when you buy online. After visiting the store, I got a better tent than I had initially planned for and they installed in like 20 minutes. Jayme gave me a complete run down of all the ins and outs of the set-up, giving me priceless tips on how to successfully set up and break down the tent.
