This was the worst experience I had while planning my wedding. I brought images and ideas of te type of hairstyle I wanted for my wedding day. Nothing complicated - mostly down, slightly curled and pulled off my face. Stacy proceeded to show me images of other trials so I could pick one that I wanted to emulate. All of the images essentially looked the same. When i couldn't find one but showed her the photos I had brought she went ahead and did the same style used on the brides in her other images. When I told her i wasn't what I was after, she took a curling iron to it and left me with ringlets. I was nearly in tears. I looked like I was going to a prom in 1982. The worst part was that while I had scheudled my trial with her weeks before (and was paying for it), she had booked another client earlier such that my appointment got cut short and I wasn't given my entire time. read more

I really can't say enough about Stacy and her amazing hair skills. She was able to style me and my four bridesmaids with incredible ease on my wedding day, and every single look was unique and absolutely gorgeous. I kept drooling over my bridesmaids' hair, commenting on how perfect everyone looked. She was also able to incorporate two of my bridesmaids' hair extensions super easily, making them look completely natural. And as for me, my hair was exactly how I envisioned it would be when I got married. It was so glamorous but not overdone. I felt like I was about to walk down the runway of a fashion show, that's how amazing she made me feel. Working with the Styles on B team leading up to the day was also such a great experience. I've had two haircuts with Sally - the first was for a cut and blow, the second just for a dry cut. The salon is beautifully decorated, as other reviews suggest, and all of the staff members are very sweet. I was more satisfied with my first haircut than my second, however after feeling this haircut grow in, I think I need another cut to fix it up. Both times that I had appointments in Sally, she was taking turns working on my hair and a customer's sitting next to me. The first haircut, she did in 20-25 minutes and the second she only spent between 10 and 15 minutes. I think that even the best haircutters require more time than that - especially when included in that time frame were distractions in the form of Sally talking to another customer. To sum it up, a nice environment, but perhaps they need to work on scheduling their appointments with more time to devote to each customer. I think that if Sally had a bit more time, I would have gotten a better haircut and more felt like it was worth my money. read more

This place had raving reviews so I decided to give it a try...there was only going up after the last cut I had. Sally & Stacy are amazing! Sally fixed my last cut and kept the length and got my color just right. I've gotten so many compliments are my hair..it turned out perfectly! Every review on here says "the best stylist I've ever had" - it's exactly what I was going to say. That's not a small thing. My whole life I've been mildly unsatisfied with my highlights - and the first thing Stacy asked was, how do you feel about changing up your highlight color? It's still very natural and subtle, but just a tiny bit warmer. It's exactly what you look for in a stylist - the perfect nuance. Suddenly I've never gotten more compliments on my hair. A guy who works at the design firm next door stopped me on the street to tell me he loved the way my highlights looked with my complexion (!). My friends noticed my hair for the first time. My four year search for a stylist in New York is finally over. It's also just a fun appointment. She's a neat person and I look forward to going. Stacy is amazing. I have been going to her for almost two years and she also did my hair (and 6 bridesmaids, my mother, and my mother-in-law) for my wedding. She is really helpful with suggesting what she thinks will work with your hair and is good at what she does. I get highlights and hair cuts regularly and am always pleased. She also happens to be a very sweet person. As some people have said, she is very busy so it can be difficult to get an appt. I worked with Laureen for my recent wedding at the end of October. I thought styles on b would be a great place due to all the raving reviews, but unfortunately I was very wrong. She was very pushy at first with trying to put a braid in my hair which is something I never wanted. I had to have 3 trials prior to the wedding because I was never exactly satisfied with the outcome. Yet as it came closer it was too late in order to receive a refund to cancel. Come my wedding day I thankfully turned out looking perfect yet she was still impatient with all of my bridesmaids including my mom who was most important besides me. I know it is my wedding day and I need to look best but it is still not fun seeing my bridesmaids going into the bathroom to secretly fix their hair because each time they asked to have it fixed it wasn't or if it was it was sloppily fixed and not up to par. Now here is the worst part my mom. My mom was unhappy. She has crazy curly hair and that's what she also wanted for the wedding. To achieve this for my mom for some reason Laureen used a FLAT IRON on her hair? That sounds wrong to me doesn't it? To curl it? A flat iron? My mom is older with very thin hair and using a flat iron on it along with the fact that it was supposed to be curly seems all wrong. She was irritated and impatient with helping my mom which was absolutely heart breaking. My mom would have been better off doing it herself. Her hair turned out fine but slightly flattened (hmmm maybe because of the flat iron?). Now its the next day, and after my mom not washing her hair it was flat and stick straight. I said mom it will be fine wash your hair and it will go back to normal. Yet it did not. I contacted the salon to let them know of this horror and they couldn't exactly explain how this could have happened. My poor beautiful mom who has always had crazy curly hair now had stick straight hair! You would think a professional would know how to treat and handle all types of hair being that my mom is older with thin hair she should have known that a flat iron to curl hair was not a good idea. Since there was not much they could do they refunded me her part and also offered her to come in to get it deep conditioned. My mom lives in New Jersey and cannot just come into the city whenever she wants. But thanks. Therefore just last week (her hair is still straight two months later) she goes to her salon and pays $115 to get it deep conditioned. And guess what it is still straight. Yes my mom had an amazing time at the wedding but she will always remember how it ruined her hair and it is absolutely heart breaking. I assume Stacy is who you should work with when going here and unfortunately I did not know that. read more

After finding Stacy and Styles on B almost three years ago, I'm never going anywhere else. I told her I wanted to be blonde. I've got naturally dark brown/black hair. She explained that going from black to blonde right away was going to wreck my hair, and so over the last few years we've been going lighter and lighter till I'm at the perfect color...... I love it. Everyone loves it. People stop me on the street to ask about my hair. The captain of the last flight I was on demanded to know Stacy's contact info so he could tell his wife. Sally Perez gives the best cut and color in town. I started seeing Sally about three years ago; around the same time I moved to NYC. Since working with her, she's helped me revise my look numerous times. I've had long hair and blunt bangs, shoulder length hair, and even a pixie. With every different style, Sally has been able to find the best way to make it work on me. I always leave feeling like a rock star. Because of Sally, people refer to me as "that girl with great hair", and in NYC great hair is a must... Yes, she's that awesome. This review is about three weeks late: I desperately needed a haircut, my long, curly hair had not been cut in about a year or more.... I came across Styles On B through google/yelp and read the great reviews, so I made an appointment for that night via email (someone had cancelled, so I was lucky). They were super nice, and I was excited to get my unruly Cousin It hair cut. My stylist (sorry! I'm not good with names) was great, my haircut the best I have ever had!! Both my stylist and her assistant who straightened my hair knew what they were doing and I was totally at ease... I have to say, I have never had a dry haircut with my hair straightened first, but I figured, it's just hair and if I don't like it I can wear it up (which I pretty much have done anyway for over a year). And they told me I could always come back to have any stray curls tamed if I was unhappy... I left with fabulous straight hair, and honestly, was not worried. Once I washed and styled my hair (aka air dried w/ product), I knew I had made the right choice. I love the haircut and my family commented that they LOVED the cut! I moved to NYC two years ago and my cousin referred me to Stacy. I was so scared of not finding a hair studio that I could go on regular basis and trust to give me a good haircut. LOOK NO FURTHER! Stacy is the best! She has given me a great hair cut every single time. To give you an idea I have naturally straight brown long hair that I have never died ever ( so I can not comment on the hair dying part). The every time I go to her I walk out feeling like a million bucks and red carpet ready. She cuts dry so she washes you hair first, then drys it, then cuts it and styles it. I was a little skeptical at first on this method just because I had never heard of this before but I love it now :) Also after every cut she styles it for me. I have very naturally straight hair and I wish I could get curl in it so badly all the time so whenever I go she curls it for me and give me those awesome soft waves just like all the celebrities have. I have read some of her previous reviews and yes she does use a flat iron to curl your hair. I thought it sounded weird at first as well but the way she uses really does curl your hair beautifully and now I use a flat iron at home to curl my hair and I have never used a curler again. I had been going to a larger chain-style salon for a few years, but wanted to try something different but still within my price range (highlights can be SO expensive at some places). I found Styles on B through Yelp and was encouraged both by their claims of affordability and the very positive reviews. I washed and allowed my hair to air dry before my appointment so that she could see what it looks like without styling. She then proceeded to cut my hair while it was dry, which couldn't have been smarter. She then added partial highlights. The results were just what I wanted. I came in to Styles on B looking for some fresh new color. The staff was really friendly and Russell, my hairdresser, was super nice. He recommended ombré for my hair, and I loved the photos he showed me. Unfortunately the end result was not what I thought I was getting. The fade was a bit abrupt, the color was more of a bleached orange than a caramel brown like he showed me. I saw some other girls walk out with cute cuts so I know this place does a good job, but I think for something like ombré hair I may have needed to go to a different colorist, or maybe I need another session. It's definitely not terrible and I'm going to keep it for a bit, but it's not amazing either. read more

Russell did my hair for my wedding and he was on time, so sweet, and very professional. He thought I was a little crazy for wanting loose waves in my hair on a windy day with photos outdoors planned, but was able to create waves that flowed in the wind and had a soft un-done look to them (he did donate his entire can of hairspray to me, just in case). My biggest concern was frizz, but my hair stayed sleek and smooth the entire day. After he was done, I didn't worry about my hair the rest of the day and it looks really nice in the photos. I've already recommended Stacy for weddings/special events to anyone who will listen and will continue to do so - she did an amazing job at my wedding. I went to Stacy for a trial before the wedding, where she asked me what I wanted day of, and we went through 3 or 4 different styles to see which looked right. She took front, side and back pictures of my head so that I could see from all angles what they looked like, and then she saved the 'do I chose so that she could refer to it when doing it at my wedding. While I was thrilled with the way my hair turned out, the real star was my Mom. She has curly hair that she never really does anything with, so I was extremely anxious about how it would turn out. Suffice it to say, my Mom has never looked better. Stacy worked with her natural curls but made them 1,000 times better. Really Terrible and rude. I recently was a bridesmaid in a wedding and we had two stylists from Styles On B do our hair for the event. I don't know what they were thinking it was almost as if they had never styled hair before. The bride had asked us to come prepared with photos of what hairstyle we wanted to get done for the wedding. We all picked out different hairstyles which matched with each of our individual personalities. Also we wanted to make sure we didn't all have the same hairstyle. We were already wearing the same dress, same hair would be overkill. Anyway, long story short the stylists did all of our hair in the exact same way and blatantly ignored the photos we had come prepared with. They also were VERY rude to each of the girls. They seemed like they were in a bad mood and they were frustrated with each girls hair they had to do. A few of the bridesmaids complained that the stylist had been aggressive and harsh on their hair and their scalp by angrily shoving bobby pins into their head. There were multiple girls who had to get their hair "touched up" after they were done, AKA the bridesmaid hated the hairstyle they were given and wanted it to be fixed. The bride and the mother of the bride had to get their hair re-done and touched up multiple times during the day before they were satisfied. This is not really something you want to stress out about on the day of your wedding. Needless to say I am planning my own wedding right now and this was a perfect opportunity for me to do a trial with this company. I will DEFINITELY NOT be using them for my wedding due to the multiple complaints and issues we had. I want my bridesmaids to be happy with how they look on my wedding day, not miserable. read more

Russell did hair me and for four bridesmaids, my mother, mother-in-law, and step-mother for my wedding a two weeks ago. He was amazing and I will never go anywhere else! After a bad hair trial experience with a different salon two months before my wedding, I was very concerned about finding and reserving a stylist ASAP to avoid all the good ones being booked, as the wedding was at peak season. I am so thankful that a friend recommended Styles on B, and that they were able to fit me in! My trial with Russell was great. He was very friendly, clearly experienced and skilled, and responsive to my descriptions and requests. I finished the trial confident that he would do an excellent job on the day of the wedding. Aubrey corresponded with me via email both to set up my trial, and during the entire booking and scheduling process, and she was wonderful! She was kind and helpful, responding quickly, answering all my questions, and following up with me the week of the wedding to make sure both I and Russell had all the information we needed. On my wedding day, Russell arrived at the hotel on schedule and did an amazing job on everyone's hair! I felt gorgeous, and I know the others did, too! Each person defined their own look, so on the spot, Russell created a different style based on each person's inspiration pictures and requests (mine was the only style we had practiced in advance). Styles on B was recommended to me when I was looking for a hairstylist for my wedding. I went in for a trial with Sally and immediately booked her on the spot. First off, the salon is so welcoming and homey. Everyone who works there is beyond friendly. Sally, my hairstylist, was awesome! She is so sweet, makes you feel comfortable, listens to what you want and makes great suggestions. I wasn't really sure on what kind of hairstyle I wanted for my wedding so Sally did multiple styles until I found exactly the style that I really liked. Two weeks before my wedding, Sally cut my hair in preparation for my hairstyle and she also put in very subtle highlights that brightened up my look. On my wedding day, Sally arrived on time and was extremely efficient. She styled my hair as well as my 6 bridesmaids and my mom. She worked very well with my makeup artist and not one of my girls had to have her redo their hair. They all LOVED the work that she did the first time. When it was my turn to go, she was careful and took her time to make sure my hair was perfect. And it was! It was better than I remembered at the trial. I felt like every strand of my hair was perfectly placed that the subtle highlights I got earlier really looked beautiful. And my hair was so shiny! In the heart of the LES, in a cool apartment building, lives a wonder. Her name is Stacy. This place is relaxed and welcoming, and I will never go anywhere else. Stacy talked with me about what I wanted to do with my hair, which had become a hopelessly tired long mess of nothing, and she did what no other hair stylist has ever done: she told me the truth. My hair, which is on the finer side, isn't going to hold shape as well as other types of hair, so the best way to change up the look is with length, bangs and/or coloring. I finally understood why all those other hair cuts that never panned out. After talking through what I was looking for, she cut my hair dry before washing it, then after it was styled did some small adjustments. And a week later, I am still in love with the outcome.
