We had dinner at Su Casa during our South Haven vacation, and it ended up being a bit of a mixed experience. The restaurant was very busy when we arrived, but they were still able to seat us on the back patio, we actually grabbed the last outdoor table. The patio was a great place to sit and had nice atmosphere. Unfortunately, the service was where things started to fall apart. After we were seated, we didn't see our server for quite a while. We completely understand that restaurants get busy, but if the staff is already overwhelmed, it might be better to slow seating rather than have guests waiting so long. When our server did make it over, he apologized for the delay. We ordered margaritas for the adults, drinks for the kids, and started with the small guacamole and queso. Oddly, our appetizers arrived before any of our drinks. After another wait, our server finally brought the beverages and apologized again. The margaritas were all very good, we tried the Golden, Regular, and Chambord, with the Golden being our favorite. The guacamole and queso were both delicious, although we wished they offered a trio with salsa instead of having to order everything separately. The queso was a big hit with the kids. For dinner, our table ordered the shrimp tacos, Enchiladas de Mole Poblano, the Avocado Burrito, and the Su Casa Quesadilla with steak. My son ordered the mozzarella sticks from the kids' menu. Overall, the food was really good. The only thing we weren't crazy about was the house-made tomato sauce on top of the Avocado Burrito, but the burrito itself was good. Once our meals arrived, our server disappeared again. We wanted extra chips to finish the guacamole and queso, a side of salsa for the tacos and quesadilla, and more napkins since each place setting only came with one paper napkin. After waiting without seeing our server, we finally went inside to ask for everything ourselves. The restaurant has a great vibe with fun décor and patio, good food, and margaritas. Unfortunately, the service really overshadowed what could have been a great meal. We're hoping there was something unusual going on that night because we'd be willing to give Su Casa another chance. First time we went to Su Casa. We asked for flautas. They were so dry! They only give you three and we left one on the plate because it was too dry. No sour cream on top, no pieces of avocado to make them soften. All Mexican restaurants give a little salsa and chips for free. Not Su Casa. We asked for avocado salsa and it was so liquid that just could dunk the chips in it. Not a good experience. read more

We absolutely Love Su Casa! The atmosphere is so beautiful and classy. The employees are always so helpful and kind, even the newest ones. We love that they give work opportunities to kids from other countries because it adds to the atmosphere and gives a unique experience. The food is delicious and they have some fabulous new vegetarian options like garbanzo Ceviche tostadas and tacos de nopales. Delicious! While the people here are extremely nice and the location is super convenient, being just off the main downtown street and boasting a canal view from the patio, the food was pretty lifeless. Atypical from most Mexican restaurants, there was no chips and salsa for the table (which is one of my favorite things about Mexican restaurants), and the meal that I had had relatively little flavor. The atmosphere is very classy and spotless. Not over the top just " First class". The service by Karen was exceptional. You could not help but notice that everyone smiled and instantly helped each other. A real compliment to Edgar, the owner. The wife tried the beef tacos which were fresh. Well seasoned and served in a fresh corn tortilla. The dish was served with a perfectly cooked rice which was delicious. I tried the beef and cheese enchilada's. Also served with rice and beans. Both were prepared perfectly and it was quite a nice dish presentation. We come to South Haven once a year and no trip is complete without coming here. Yes we had a drink as well. What a pleasant little Mexican space! The inner decor is tasteful, thematic and clean. Love the marble-like table tops too. Each staff member we encountered was pleasant and welcoming. Our server, Angel was especially attentive. Do check out the cocktail menu. There are more fruit-forward sweet ones, but I enjoyed the herbal Skinny Cucumber Mezcelita with fresh cuke slices and lime. The unsalted tortilla chip appetizer might have been better had it been served fresh and warm. We thought we'd get guacamole with the appetizer, but received a variation on a salsa verde instead. My guy's chicken soft burrito was very large, lukewarm. The standout however was the German Goulash soup - served piping hot, seasoned and loaded with vegetable and meat bits. Yum! Its location is a plus. The staff maintains all public areas of the property, including restrooms, immaculately clean. We would have no problem returning. read more

Wow, I am surprised to now read bad reviews here (1 stars) but seems like most of those look like back in 2016-17-18-ish. (?!) We went there in June 2023 and had a wonderful experience. Also, hours posted on Yelp says they open at 4, but we were there for lunch on a Sunday. We were looking nearby at some restaurants that we were told were dog friendly on their patios, but they were busy (no seating available) and also told us they were not dog friendly. One server said "the place down the street is, but you can only have 3 dogs, new city ordinance." -- there were 4 adults & we had 4 (large) dogs. We decided to try anyway. We walked over to Su Casa and the server let us up the back stairs to the patio. They had several tables shaded with umbrellas. The servers were very nice. We had the fruit margaritas (which fruit? our server asked -- all of them! we said.) Ceviche, chips & queso, pork tacos, hams & cheese sandiwch, burritos and more. They were also able to accommodate one of our diners who is gluten & dairy free (for medical reasons). Our lunch was tasty and we had a wonderful, leisurely time. I went here for a 30th birthday and the staff was very nice. The place was not busy at all so we had quick service. I got chicken tamales, they were good nothing special though. I'm used to having my plate full at a Mexican restaurant though. My girlfriend got the fish tacos and she said they were good. Group of us came in and ordered margaritas one spicy and one classic. They brought out both and realized one was not spicy. I watched her go back to the bartender and the bartender threw a few jalapeños on top then gave it back to us. They were completely watered down and terrible. Once our quesadillas came out they looked like tacos. Had zero cheese in them and weren't even grilled properly. On top of that they forgot the sides of avocado we asked for. Once our bill came, we noticed they charged us for the side of sour cream and avocado. Don't forget their "third" salsa in the trio package is just pickled carrots. Will not be back. read more

I have been coming here for years. At one time, with your meal came a small basket of complimentary chips and pickled carrots. No more. Now you have to pay for them. The food arrived lukewarm. To get any artificial sweetener other stevia was almost impossible . . . A small thing, but the no chips and lukewarm food was a deal breaker for us. I actually really love Su Casa! I wish it was open a bit more. I have missed it during the whole covid thing! They have a great patio (which is a gem in South Haven) and they have a wide variety on their menu. Their cocktails are so fresh! I love that I can choose something healthier when I come here. That isn't always the case when you are dining out. They have lighter options, which I appreciate. They have great options for the kids too, there is something for everyone! Excellent food and one of the most amazing flavors we have had when it comes to Mexican food in the US. The place is not at all pretentious, the staff were super helpful and friendly and I can't believe we only stumbled upon this place on our last day at South Haven! We dined here on a happenstance. We were on a wait list at a very popular restaurant in South Haven but decided to walk around and check out some places to see how busy they all are. We smelled some delicious aroma coming from this unassuming place and saw a couple of patio tables open so we decided to go in and place our order. We enjoyed our margaritas while we waited for our food, unfortunately, it got too cold for little old tropical me so we decided to pack up the chips and salsa and enjoy our actual dinner at the house we rented. The salsa was awesome and fresh, by the way but the chips were a bit too thick for our liking. Nevertheless, the flavors were quite fantastic! I ordered some camarones a la diabla and the spice level and flavor did not disappoint. The serving size was also plentiful and the side of rice was well-flavored. My husband had the tamales and after his first bite, he declared it to be 5-star! He usually never says stuff like that... It's more along the lines of... It's pretty good or it's only okay. I tried the tamales which came still wrapped in corn husks, by the way! They did taste a lot better than other tamales I have ever had. His endorsements were spot on. I could not have said it better myself and who knew? To find a Mexican restaurant in these parts of Michigan and actually be impressed is a mystery on its own. As far as COVID safety, this place required their patrons to wear a mask when ordering inside. If someone did not have a mask, they had a window they can place their order from. To start with there were 12 of us, 8 adults and 4 kids. The staff was very friendly and accommodating but would disappear from time to time. Food was good , not great. We ordered guacamole and all agreed it was bland. Stick with water, tea, soft drinks. The margaritas had little or no alcohol and when pointed out to manager he just said the bartender was a pro? A pro at what? Several people at the table ordered shots of tequila to put in there margs. Prices were reasonable and the outdoor patio was a great spot on a sunny day.
