We always make it a point to have a Clementines night during our annual summer vacation in South Haven, and it's one of those traditions we look forward to every year. It was raining and past the dinner rush, so we were pleasantly surprised to have no wait. We had to start with the onion rings, which are a family favorite and never disappoint. We also ordered the Mess of Perch, which is an absolute must every time we visit. My dad chose the walleye, and my son was perfectly happy with the buttered noodles from the kids' menu. The perch and walleye both come with Texas toast and your choice of side, making for a lot of food. I got the French onion soup and it was great. We left completely stuffed and already talking about our next visit. What makes Clementine's so special is that it never tries to be anything other than what it is. Met the family for an early Saturday lunch. It has been awhile since we were here last. What I do remember was the great service we received from our server. She was super friendly and interactive with our kiddos. Very complimentary of my sister in laws brand new baby. The food was delicious and very well prepared. I got the Rueben with curly fries and it was a tasty treat for sure. The kids got chicken tenders and mini corn dogs while my wife got a sandwich as well. What an AMAZING place. When we Travel to SoHa we never miss an opportunity to eat here. The onion rings are a MUST. This trip we got a Hamburger (wife) and it was wonderful. I got the Roast Beef (High Roller) with a side of French Onion soup and the sandwich was amazing, the French Onion Soup was SO SO GOOD! Maybe the BEST I've ever had. Dessert was perfect. To be 100% honest, I got the Creme Brulee and before it ever got to my table our server "AMIRA" said i am going to take this back and get you another one as the top was a tad over! We started with the onion rings which we LOVE!! They weren't the same and we are not sure if it was the breading or cooking. The breading was smoother than normal plus tougher and a little doughy. They were ok but not as good. The double eagle salad was EXCELLANT and what my husband normally orders. He ordered the honey mustard (normally gets thousand Island) and did not like it at all. His personal preference not Clem's fault. I had the French dip (high roller) with French onion soup as the side. I love this sandwich and the soup and get it often. Place was hopping on Valentine's day. Kitchen seemed backed up due to it being busy, so our food took a long time, but we were patient and the bartender was super kind and made it right for us. Great beer options, and a pretty solid menu. We had the fried shrimp and bbq burger and enjoyed both. Good place for lunch and to get a greasy meal. This place boasts, a standard home-cooked kitchen type of vibe, but I'm pretty positive. The burger was a premade, frozen patty, and the taste wasn't much better. It wasn't bad, but it was also far from good. There is usually a long wait, especially on weekends, because people just like the vibe, and it's been there for a really long time, but there isn't anything special about the food. This place is always completely packed... but it can't be for the quality of the food. I mean, the food is ok. Some items are quite good (perch sandwich was tasty) but others are just ok...(burgers). The wait is easily an hour at any time and sometimes more. At 4:55 on a Tuesday not in prime summer, the wait was 25+ min. Service was friendly but it took maybe 40 min to get food after waiting 30 min for a table. They forgot my drink for a while and it did show up eventually but prob 30 min after I ordered it. As mentioned, food is only ok. After such a long wait, I was expecting much more. I will say that our fries (which we ordered as an appetizer) did come quickly and as we were starving, that worked out well (but again, just ok). Prices were ok... more on the pricey end considering the food but decent for the area. I'm not sure why this is so busy all of the time as there is better food around... maybe nostalgia? What a South Haven staple. I love the red rooster chicken- it's a grilled strawberry glazed chicken with walnuts and feta! I usually get it with rice and broccoli. I have been getting this same order for about 20 years. I've tried to make it at home and it just doesn't compare. They have great onion rings too! Place is a bit dated and could use a face lift. We are visiting family near Kalamazoo, Michigan and they wanted to take us out for dinner and were eager to go to Clementine's in South Haven. It's a bit of a drive and it was Friday, so they assured us, we didn't want to arrive after 4:30, or the wait starts to get long. They were right. We arrived around 4:45 and had to wait about 15 to 20 minutes. When we were seated our server, who was friendly and efficient so we had a good service, brought ice water and straws. She asked if we wanted any other beverages and I asked if they had raspberry lemonade. She smiled and said, "I have lemonade and raspberry syrup." So I ordered that. It was very good lemonade and didn't taste like a commercial brand to me. Our family said,"We have to order onion rings. You can get a half stack or a full stack, and for all of us, we'll order the full stack (stacked 12 inches high on a wooden dowel)." They are obviously homemade and they are battered, but they also make the correct preparation of pre-cooking the onion rings so they will hold together for each bite. Two people split the Fried perch platter and a bowl of onion soup for the side, with a second bowl of soup. One ordered the Fiesta Salad, with mixed greens, salsa and Mexican toppings and added the ground beef option. I had the Panko butterfly shrimp and coleslaw. Everything arrived in a timely manner and good temperatures for the hot and cold items. The restaurant is in the middle, more or less, of South Haven, so if you had to wait for awhile you could visit a lot of shops around the block and down the street. After dinner we made our way to the canal and beach area, set up folding chairs we brought and watched boats coming and going. We strolled down to the lighthouse and back to work off the delicious meal. I strongly recommend Clementine's is worth a visit for the food and your visit to the shoreline city by the lake. read more

There was a 20-30 min wait when we checked in with the host, which was to be expected for a Saturday. Once we were seated, we were greeted within a minute. Ordered drinks and the onion rings with ranch. They were delicious! Waiter was very attentive every time he walked by he asked if we needed another drink or anything else. This was a nice restaurant with a good amount of seating room inside. As an appetizer, I got the creamy chicken wild rice soup: it was indeed creamy and hearty (with a lot of vegetables), but too salty. Good thing my mom had hot water at the table we could add - the flavor was good after adding hot water. For my entree, I got the potato-crusted walleye: the walleye had a nice crunchy exterior and wasn't overly greasy or heavy. It tasted fresh and it was a good size fillet. They also provided good tartar sauce to add a little tang. But this was also on the salty side. The broccoli medley I got as my side was great. They provided a generous amount of vegetables (also snow peas and red pepper) that were steamed. The cheesy garlic toast on the side was solid. I also tried some of the lake perch: it had really well seasoned breading, but this was also too salty. I'm hoping this was just the chef being heavy-handed with the salt shaker that day. I was in between 3 and 4 stars, but based on the overall experience, I'm going to round up. read more

It was a lot of fried which isn't necessarily a bad thing but also anything fried is usually pretty good. We went later in the evening and only had to wait a few mins. The restaurant was bustling when we got there, so we spent some time exploring nearby antique shops until our table was ready. They serve great, classic Americana pub food in a building with lots of historic roots that are well on display. We put our name in and were seated after about 20 minutes. I had the turkey club, and chose to get it on a croissant. The turkey is made in-house and is fresh & flavorful. Overall, it was a fantastic sandwich. I also love that you get several choices for side items with your sandwich. I chose the broccoli medley, which was steamed broccoli, peppers, and sugar snap peas. A very nice change of pace from typical French fries. I decided to get the "reel" perch sandwich (pan fried yellow perch on a grilled bun with lettuce and tartar sauce on the side) since it came up in many Yelp reviews. The fish was overcooked and there were a few small ones inside the actual sandwich itself. Our table also shared the onion rings but they seemed pretty average.
