First time here for dinner -- the hostess outside was very friendly and handed us a beeper for our 30 minute table wait. Conveniently, there's a takeout window to order drinks and then take in the views of the river close by. We were seated at a nice booth with a great view and had an excellent server. The menu features pizza and pasta with some mains. We ordered Caesar salad, chicken parm, and linguine with clams in white wine sauce. The food came out at a good pace and we enjoyed the salad and our entrees. The linguine was bursting with clams. In the shell clams with a layer of shelled clams, garlic cloves, and a savory, bright white wine sauce. Just perfect. The chicken parm had a nice balance of breading cheese and sauce. I've been to Marro's throughout the years and have always enjoyed my time. The staff, specifically the waiters Alex and Rob, have always been extremely friendly, knowledgable, and enhance the dining experience tenfold. The menu has changed a lot throughout the years and I do miss a lot of the old classics like the bruschetta, white wine pasta, and steak. However, there are still great mainstays like the penne a la vodka. The cheese bread appetizer and all the desserts are the highlights of the menu. I personally liked the cannoli the most! Marro's is really nice to visit in the summer, especially if you can sit outside on the patio. Definitely consider stopping by here on a beach day trip! read more

We were thrilled to see Pati working the door after (we believe) 30+ years. Marro's is 55 this year (older than us) and has become a family summer tradition. Specifically, we always enjoy the garlic knots, chicken parm, salads, pizza, and vino (great selection). Server was young, attentive, and eager to please. One of our favorite places to eat in Saugatuck but if you don't want to wait you have to get their way before they open. I love their Gnudi appetizer which is a vegetable mixture of pureed cauliflower, spinach, cheeses and more and I get half and half which is marinara on one and Alfredo on the other. Heavenly. My daughter loved the lobster ravioli special. Her boyfriend got the baked penne and added chicken....he loved the dish but the chicken was an underseasoned after thought. I got the penne vodka pasta and didn't read the description because I didn't expect them to add a huge change in the over 10 years I've been going but they added sliced Italian sausage which I would have left off. It overpowered the sauce and I feel they added less sauce to the dish. I honestly dont know if I would order it again after it being a favorite for ten years. read more

Service was great. Very nice waiter. Got constant refills of our water on a very hot day. He even put a candle in our cheesecake for our anniversary. Food...didn't like it. (Besides the cheesecake.) We ordered the famous garlic rolls. You could smell the garlic a mile away. The grease pooling off of it was crazy. For me personally, one bite made me nauseous. The flavor reminded me of Texas Toast and I hate Texas Toast, which also makes me nauseous. I tried so hard to finish a piece of these rolls and I couldn't do it. The bread itself was fluffy and nice, but I couldn't do the greasy cheese...and I LOVE garlic. These rolls were disgusting to me. I'm sorry. My husband liked them, however, but agreed with me on the grease. My fettuccine Alfredo was not good. The fettuccine was undercooked and there was a different cheese in the dish that ruined it for me. Too overpowering. Just stick to the Parmesan for the cheese, please. Husband agreed that it was not good. My husband had the lasagna and liked it, but it wasn't his favorite. He told me that he wouldn't come back to this place unless we tried something else, like the pizza. We came on a July Sunday and put our name on the list and we were able to pick a time even though they don't take reservations, this was pretty much a reservation. They don't do a free dessert for anniversaries, but they did put a candle in the cheesecake we paid for. The cheesecake was the only thing I liked and it was very good. We come to Saugatuck every year and when we arrive on Sundays, this place is our go to. We love eating outside outside on their patio. Beautiful flowers and a great view. I had their chicken Parmesan and my husband had the penne with spaghetti sauce. It's always good and the service was great. Never have tried their pizzas but the table next to us had one and it looked delicious. We will be back next year. It's tradition!!!! read more

Okay I loved this place so much. We were seated right away and the ambiance was great. Our service was so nice and they were flexible with our order, like I was able to get the Penne Alla Vodka without prosciutto cause I am a pescatarian. Tonight was our first time dining at Marro's and based on the mixed reviews we were skeptical but our kids were starving and craving Italian so we elected to check it out. Let me just say we were really glad we did! We had no wait for a party of 4 on a Saturday night. The food, service and ambiance was great and it had a cool Sopranos vibe with a piano player by the bar that just added to the atmosphere. My 6 year old had sausage pizza that was wood fired and my daughter had spaghetti and meatballs. They were able to customize which type of noodles they used too (helpful for a choosy 9 year old!) My husband's chicken parm was great and I ordered a pasta primavera that was excellent. I added chicken and have 2 more meals with the leftovers now. This was our third stay in Saugatuck and we've really enjoyed the dining options here! We would recommend Marro's. read more

Yum! Finally was able to check out this place and I was not disappointed! They do not skimp on their garlic and I'm so happy about it!!:) There seemed to be a lot of people waiting outside when we arrived but for two people they were able to seat us almost immediately. We sat inside near the bar and there was someone playing live music on the piano. Our server was extremely kind and accommodating and set us up with waters and drinks right away. The moscato was very delicious and sweet. For an appetizer we tried their freshly baked garlic rolls which were topped with melty mozzarella and you could add marinara sauce for dipping with an additional charge. Another appetizer we tried was the mussels but with a white wine sauce. They also offer the mussels to be served in a spicy plum tomato sauce. The mussels were cooked well and the sauce was amazing. I couldn't stop eating those. Before we were finished those appetizers, our entrees came out and the homemade Alfredo sauce on my fettuccine was sooo fire! I added shrimp for an additional charge of $12 and they gave me 3 large shrimp. You have the option to add one meatball for $5, one sausage link for $5, chicken for $8, 3 large shrimp for $12, and mushrooms for $7. My friend ordered the shrimp scampi and she loved how many shrimp they gave her and how much garlic was used, nothing lacked flavor here. Sadly we did not have enough room to try any dessert but what we did eat we were very happy with. They gave us paper boxes and paper bags so very environmentally safe to-go boxes! I didn't rate a full five stars only because the inside seemed slightly old and run down. But overall, the service was amazing, the food was absolutely delicious and homemade, and I would 1000% come back and try more items on the menu and maybe sit outside next time because summer in Saugatuck is a vibe. read more

We had to wait a bit on a Sunday night (about 30 min) but it was worth it! The space is not fancy but it is fun. Their menu was pretty authentically Italian. Their take on bruschetta include tasty and sweet marinated tomatoes. The bolognese was hearty and the ziti allo vodka with sausage was spicy and flavorful. Let me preface this review by saying I spent 13 years in northern New Jersey where the Italian food is very very good.. . Our party was very pleased with the service. Our server was very attentive. My only complaint is that dinner rolls were not offered; we had to request them. The Caesar salad was a big disappointment. Basically some Romaine lettuce with a little oil. Virtually tasteless. My lasagne had good flavor, but the noodles were so overcooked they were mush. No texture whatsoever. The spicy penne with sausage was tasty and not overly spicy. The penne was properly cooked to al dente. However the sausage was pretty mushy and had no color. I would've expected it to have some browning from the pan. The interior of the restaurant is a bit dated and would've benefited from some freshening up during the off season when they're closed. But I've come to expect this from most of the restaurants in downtown Saugatuck. We might try Marro's again but we're in no hurry to go back. read more

ZERO stars. I can not believe how I've been treated not once, but TWICE by these people that run this restaurant. I just called to talk to the owner - not knowing what I even had to say, and the manager, the daughter, argued with me, was snide with me, was unprofessional and VERY un-customer service like. I'm in shock that they think they can treat people in the way I am being treated. The reason for my call - My husband dropped me off last night for my birthday dinner. I have a very bad knee, and he wanted me to put our name in while he parked (50 ft away). There were 3 women (2 younger) standing outside the door in the hot sun when I approached them. I told them how many (2) and she asked if my other party was there and I said - but he's parking - I pointed our car out that was 50ft away. The "older" than the other 2, woman (who I believe I also just talked to AND is the owner's daughter), refused to seat me until my husband joined me. And she was not kind. I asked again because I said it's my birthday and my knee hurts if I could be seated. (Being nice) While we are having this back and forth (which instead of saying OH! I'm sorry about your knee I'll be happy to seat you) she argued with me. AND she was making derogatory faces at me to the other 2 younger girls with her back mostly to me, thinking I couldn't see her. She was SO RUDE, condescending and unprofessional. She basically ruined my birthday dinner. This is the point we could see my husband's car, and I said, he is just right there- and she "FINE! JUST SEAT HER BY THE DOOR" - oh that sounds lovely - NOT! Again she made another face. I am NOT going to made fun of on MY BIRTHDAY or any other day by anyone. She was beyond RUDE and arrogant and she has NO BUSINESS being in the service industry whether she is the daughter of the owner or not. The food was good the one time before (last year) when we went there. My husband thought that we would have a nice experience. NOPE! Good food or not, NO ONE should be treated the way I have been treated TWICE by these people. When I called tonight to speak to the owner she was making fun of me because I started my number and she says "Oh, Illinois" in a know it all rude tone of voice. I said yes but I live in Holland (building in Saugatuck) - just because of the area code doesn't mean I live there when you have a cell phone" then she sarcastically and with a song in her tone said "I know that". She was very condescending during the entire call. She made a comment that I shouldn't call when they are so busy (not my fault they are only open at 5pm which is why I waited) and she was talking over me - then when I called her out on that, she literally hung up on me. All I was doing was trying to leave a nice message for the owner. I know this places is rated high - but this woman is a detriment to this restaurant. She had the opportunity to be really sweet when I first went up to her on my birthday last night. I am honestly in shock about how I was treated. THIS IS THE WORST CUSTOMER EXPERIENCE I HAVE EVER HAD AT A RESTAURANT!!!!!! I have been a manager in customer service for over 30 years and I would fire ANYONE that treated my customers the way she has treated me - family or not. It's unacceptable. read more

They sat a table of 5 at a four person booth. As a service industry worker this is a BIG no no! The chair was just thrown on the end of the booth table. It was extremely inconsiderate. A Saugatuck institution & for good reason. It's a solid traditional Italian restaurant with all of your favorites. Known for their pizza but we didn't partake. Instead we had clams linguine & blackened salmon & both were fine. There were a lot of clans which was nice, red sauce had a nice flavor. The lady enjoyed the blackened salmon, a little spice to it but not too much. The service was a little slow but the place was jammed, considering how busy it was it wasn't too bad. Also plan on waiting for a table here, seems like they're busy all night on the weekend. They have a decent wine list & some good MI craft beers. Prices are on the high side but this is a vacation spot. It was a turn off that they charge $4 for a side salad with an entree, most restaurants of this type include it with an entree. We'd go again when back in Saugatuck. read more

Walked up on Friday night and happened to get nice take for two by the window in a busy restaurant that was slowing down a little.
