My friend but I to a piece of metal in his quesadilla from the bag the raw meat come it. That is what the manager told us it was. He apologized. My steak was very this sliced beef cut and way over cooked so it was basically leather. I sent it back and asked for chicken instead. The chicken was also cut very thin before it was over cooked as well. The restaurant did not offer to comp my friend's meal. Thus place used to be good. El Jaripeo serves consistently good Mexican food. I have yet to find better Mexican food in the Fennville/Saugatuck/Douglas area. I've had quite a few of the dishes, including the fajitas, enchaladas, and several of the camarones specialty dishes, as well as many of the appetizers. I wish the salsa that's served with the chips was a little spicier, but I understand they have to appeal to all diners. The pitcher if Ultimate margaritas is perfect for 2 people (sometimes even for one person lol). Service is always good; never had a bad experience. Occasionally it can be a bit noisy, but that's only because all the tables are full of diners! My wife enjoys going there not just for the food. As a bonus, she also gets to practice her Spanish with the wait staff. read more

We ordered 4 meals and only received 2 of them. Out of what we did receive, 3 of the meals were supposed to be a quesadilla, a chalupa, and an enchilada. The quesadilla had no meat and only a tiny clump of cheese in the middle. The "chalupa" was really just a plain meatless tostada. When we called to ask about the missing meals and questioned the chalupa, the person we spoke with was rude and dismissive, saying, "This is not Taco Bell." The tacos we did receive were soggy, messy, and had very bland chicken. The portions overall were small, flavorless, and not worth the high prices. Between the missing meals, poor food quality, and unprofessional service, we were very disappointed and won't be ordering again. read more

I had a beef super burrito (lunch). I specifically asked if the beef was seasoned because I'd had alot of beef at Mexican places be just ground beef with no seasonings. The server said yes it was. Well it wasn't. It was a very small burrito and was bland because beef had no seasonings on it. The beef actually had no flavor. The beans and rice were typical. The salsa was watered down and the queso was 4.95 for a half cup AT BEST in the little bowl. My husband had steak fajitas and they were good - not great but good. read more

We were driving by my old hometown and decided to stop and check this place out. We visited on a Saturday around noonish and it was not that busy. We were seated fairly quickly. We were seated in a booth and Loved the cushion in these seats literally felt as if you were sitting on a cloud. They were quick to bring out the chips and salsa; the salsa was a little on the runny side and I feel needed a little more spice, but it was still good. The waiter quickly came to get our drink order and gave us menus. It took us a few minutes to decide what we were gonna order and the waiter would check in us frequently. I ordered their Saturday lunch special (fajitas) and my son ordered the Create your own Nachos (Chicken/Beef/Cheese). The food came out pretty fast and was hot. The fajitas came with sautéed green peppers and onions, rice, beans, tortillas, and the toppings. The meat was tasty but could use extra seasoning. The nachos came with beef and chicken (fyi....the chicken is shredded and with green peppers and onion). It was a nice size serving. Of course, we were not able to finish our entire meal so we asked for to-go boxes. The nachos were tasty as well, but could need a tad bit more seasoning. The food was good and will definitely go again to try something else or to have a drink. It is kind of pricy, but the Saturday lunch special price is not bad at all! We had visited here once before, and was very impressed. On our visit last time, they forgot our order entirely, then brought 3 out of 4, with no apology or explanation. My taco salad with chicken was so runny it was like soup, and the drinks were all wrong as well. The waiter just kept giving us two thumbs up every time he came to our table and then went away. Solid and tasty Mexican restaurant. They have plenty of parking available in downtown Fennville which is a nice change from Saugatuck. We started with the queso and got sides of jalapeños, sour cream and guacamole...along with the complimentary chips and salsa. I prefer a thinner chip but, they weren't bad. All the dips and sides were great! I had the Burritos Roqueta and the pork was delicious and the portion was huge; I was only able to eat half. My mom had one grilled chicken quesadilla and added the sour cream and guacamole. Finally, my son had 2 bean enchiladas with a side of beans (do you see a theme?). Service could have been a little better with our soda refills. Otherwise, service was prompt. We didn't have cocktails this night but, my mom highly recommends the Blue Margarita. This is a great Mexican restaurant. Decor is fun , the service is so fast. Everyone is very nice. My favorite dish is the Mojarra Frita, a whole pan-fried tilapia. It is perfect. I will start by saying this is the first and only review I have ever written on Yelp, so you can imagine how terrible this experience was for us. Our servers were very short with and rude to us. When we first showed up, despite having a reservation, they were scrambling to find a seat for our party of 10. They tried to sit us at two different tables at first until we asked if it was possible for all of us to sit together. I ordered the mahi mahi tacos, which were advertised to have a crisp and refreshing slaw. I love fish tacos and was excited about the dish, but was incredibly disappointed by what I received. They served the tacos as just a few slabs of fried fish on tortillas, with no slaw or anything. When I asked about it, they gave me the slaw on the side, but it was brown and bitter tasting. Lunch special paid $2 extra for a steak burrito ordered a cheese enchilada. They brought a ground beef enchilada with Molesauce never asked me what kind of sauce I wanted and I hate Mole sauce . Took forever for the Waiter to return. I told him the problem with the order. He brought a cheese enchilada globbed in some white sauce with the Verde which is what I asked for on the side. WOW! We were driving through Fenville and saw this new restaurant on main street. Decided to stop on the spur of the moment the staff was really accommodating allowing our dogs to sit on the deck while we ate. Service was fast and our Server was really helpful with getting our drinks and food. The food made this worth the stop. Fresh and tasty, the steak in the enchiladas was tasty and tender. The sauces were spicy and set the steak off nicely. Washed it all down with a Negro Modello all for $20. The servings were huge. Went there for a birthday dinner with six family members. Very impressed when I walked in very nicely designed an environment. Service was really bad. Three of us got our food right away three of us got our food about 25 minutes later and one of us never got our food until we asked for it after about an hour. No apology no recognition of poor service no nothing. As far as the food it was very average. Somethings good somethings not so good so when you balance it out average. Also it's priced a little high obviously for the tourist from Saugatuck. Attractive Mexican restaurant located in downtown Fennville. I've had carry out a few times and thought I would try dine in. I had chicken and beef fajitas which was tasty but overcooked. The table enjoyed their tacos and the chips and salsa/margaritas. Clearly there is a bit of a service issue here, it was uneven on the night (Wednesday) that I was there but they were trying. This place is a welcomed sight in a relatively small town with small restaurants. We were nervous at first but soon discovered El Jaripeo served delicious food and great drinks. Service was efficient, friendly an totally unfrazzled by all of the hungry diners clamoring for their attention. They quickly brought us chips and a tasty salsa that could have used a bit more heat but was delicious nonetheless. The margaritas were excellent especially the strawberry margaritas. I ordered the Chile Colorado which is ground beef tips in a dark rich Chile sauce. The dish was sufficiently spicy without blowing out my tonsils. I wouldn't say this place serves authentic Mexican food. What they serve is something all their own which is still familiar and very good. I recommend this place for big groups, a wide and delicious menu, great drinks and excellent service in the middle of Fennville. read more
