I'm glad that Yelp almost allows me to find great professionals, and this time it was a hit too. Our Sub Zero freezer broke, the gasket fully ripped during the weekend. I called the service we used in the past, they scheduled us for 3 weeks (!!!) later. Couldn't wait that long for sure. So found these guys on Yelp, sent Rick a voicemail on Saturday, got a call back within an hour, and an appointment set for Monday. On Monday he arrived within the scheduled 2-hour window. He offered to clean the condenser and give things a once-over while he was at it, all for the cost of the service fee. Turned out, things were dirty in the condenser and the fan motor was leaking oil like crazy. Looks like this freezer wasn't serviced for the life of it. Rick replaced the fan motor without any upcharge, ranted how amazing those freezers are only if you maintain them properly, and went on his way. Rick came two hours after my call. It took him sometime to diagnose the problem, but he finally found it. He told us we needed to replace control board to fix the issue. However, Rick found that we could get that part FREE from manufacturer directly, so Rick would charged me for labor only. He also took care of ordering the part by contacting manufacturer directly. Due to our ignorance, we neglected to clean the interior bottom of our Sub-Zero freezer. A lot of dust built up, and another technician (Vince from Box Appliance) said that the freezer probably overheated due to blocked airflow. If there was damage to the compressor, he recommended replacing the entire unit with a new one. In his experience, trying to replace the compressor on an older unit wasn't a sure bet. The repair would be costly and may not even work. We gave it a day as suggested, but things were melting in our freezer, so we assumed that parts were definitely broken. I'm so glad we got a second opinion with Rick from Sub-Zero & Viking Repair. He explained to me his approach: first, to replace the starter and how much it would cost ($495). If that didn't work, he would have to replace the compressor and other parts (which would cost over $2000). Thankfully, the starter was the issue. We didn't have to replace any other parts. In setting up this meeting, Franco (the scheduler) listened to my concerns and assured me that they had a 1-year warranty for parts and labor, in case the repair would fail. Extending the life of our Sub-Zero freezer, I think, was a good investment. Right now, it's running like usual, and I was surprised how quickly the temperature decreased to zero. One day when I was looking yet again for someone who would help me to fix my old sub-zero refrigerator, I came across sub-zero & viking repair. Their service call fee was just $59 (just compare it with other companies!) I called and scheduled a visit, the technician called me beforehand to make sure I'm home and that time was convenient for me. (Great customer service) I've never had such a great experience before. I've spent a lot of money before but the issue kept coming back. The temperature inside was 50°, although the indicator showed 25. Definitely not the way it should be. Tony(the technician) said that the problem was in the control board and it needed to be replaced. He ordered the board and said it would arrive the next day. P.s. they didn't charge me anything for that visit and diagnostics!!! The next day Tony came with the part and my fridge finally started working properly! There was another problem with door seal. Tony told me that it didn't affect the performance at that time but it would require replacement later. I decided to have all things done in one day. The technician explained to me the root of problems and warned about possible issues in the future. The good thing was that he also told me that fridge would last for many years. Bottom line : Subzero appliances are usually costly to repair but this is justified by their prices of fridges that last long. At the end of the day - you get what you pay for and I'm confidently saying that I still think I got the best service for the price. Maybe it's just me as I admit I have some quirks and some things really bother me more than others. Like getting ripped off, for example. Here is my story. I have a L series Wolf double oven. One day out of nowhere, the bottom oven stopped working. Based on the reviews, I place a call to these guys. I made an Appt for Monday between 9-12 and right before, they called to tell me the technician was having an issue with his car and needed to reschedule. No biggie, these things happen. So Rick comes the next day, looks at the oven for 10 minutes and goes "you control boards are dead" so I asked him to send me an estimate to complete the repair, once he figured out parts and labor. So he sends mean estimate for $2,162. I was really surprised by this cost, although knowing that Wolf ovens are hard to repair, so I asked him how much was labor and how much was parts. He answered by saying $790 for labor, so if you are still following the story and haven't fallen asleep yet, thats $1,372 for parts. Intrigued by this, I contacted the official Wolf parts supplier (wcpdistributing.com) and this what they said about the price: "The relay boards are part 807053. There are two in your unit, one for each oven. They are in stock and the cost is $205.90 each. The oven controller is part 807045. This is in stock and the cost is $171.60". Now, I understand companies need to make money but this overcharge on parts was a tad much, I'd say. Really surprised by this price difference, I contacted Rick to see which parts he was referring to as it wasn't specified on the estimate, but unfortunately he never got back to me. And in the words of the immortal Steve Jobs, wait, there is more. While researching online to see if there was another solution to my problem, I found this video on YouTube. https://youtu.be/7tgFyoAsXDQ I couldn't believe it. This guy fixed the exact same oven with the exact same problem by resetting the thermal cutout switch in the back of the oven with a made up tool. A friend of mine had the tool made for me, really basic actually, we tried it and lo and behold, it worked. And the oven has been working flawlessly ever since for less than $15. Sir, whoever you are, you officially are my new hero. What's the lesson here? If you have the time, it's really worth putting the effort and see if you can fix the problem yourselves. It will not only save you a bundle but equally important, it will spare you the feeling of being taken for a ride. read more

The problem with my Viking was not difficult to fix in nature however, I had contacted a different company which claimed parts were needed and charged a lot for consultation. I had an emergency, my Sub-zero refrigerator drawer suddenly stopped working!?? I needed fast service called, and was scheduled a time for the following morning.
