Honestly I haven't gone to Sub Zero since before COVID-19 but the last few times I've gone, I was more impressed. Sub Zero is one of those restaurants that you've got to try before you die because the ice cream there is phenomenal. Dairy Queen doesn't even compare.... Okay well it does, it's like Kong vs Godzilla. That'd be a challenging debate but Sub Zero would probably win in terms of appearance. Now when it comes to freedom of choice and options, I think Dairy Queen offers more flavors and types of milkshakes and also it sells actual foods like burgers and fries. So if you want lunch, go to Dairy Queen If you're not and you want to look at something extraordinary stunning and eye-pleasing then go to Sub Zero. They have frozen gasses which are safe that comes out of the like machines where they have ice cream and you can go inside of it and feel it. But anyways, go to Sub Zero. The sugar may indeed be high but that's to be expected. The desserts there are special and have a spark that just no restaurant gives off. :) I am trying to think about one thing to give them constructive criticism and feedback on but it's hard because they do a lot. Definitely a popular place in Carmel! We had to wait at least twenty minutes on a Saturday here. I wish they had some more seating either indoor or outdoor. The workers here were not very happy to say the least, constant frown from what our group was seeing. The positive at this place is the endless options you can have of the ice cream. Just meh. I've had nitrogen ice cream before at a shop in Chicago. It was good - very creamy and mixed with fresh toppings. This place has all the hype, none of the flavor. We got cherry and mint with regular cream. Both use "flavoring" which completely defeats the point of a good ice cream. Their technique also appears flawed because the ice cream I got had parts of it which very plenty creamy, and other parts which were hard and icey. It didn't help that the place cost us almost $13 for two small cups. I wouldn't mind it if it used quality ingredients, but unfortunately that's not the case. I have had the nitrogen ice cream at a few other places and so far, this is my favorite. I love that you can select your milk so it accommodates every need. Plus you can order vegan and sugar free- that's almost impossible for any dessert. Most of the flavors are vegan- however most of the add ins aren't. There are hundreds of options between the type of ice cream, variety of flavor combinations and quantity of toppings. It's generally standard but they do have a brownie batter liquid which is used as an ice cream flavor but I get it on top as a hot fudge on roids. Come for the show, stay because the line moves slow and you wonder if life passed you by while you wait for your ice cream to freeze but you can't leave because you invested so much time in the wait. They did mix up my order on the flavor but I actually liked it better than my original flavor so it worked out okay. We got to check out the menu and see the ice cream making in action. We finished the walk and had dinner then headed back about 9. Good thing they were open till 10pm. There was a bit of a line when we got back. Guess everyone had the same idea for dessert. We brought 2 friends with us and she said she always gets the large since it's only $1 more. So I thought why not! So she meant they split the large! Oops. The large is a lot of ice cream. I went with the Bernoulli Brulee. Plus you get to pick you base. I went with custard. They have all the ingredients right there which they mix in a large metal bowl. Then the magic begins as the bowl is put under the nitrogen gas. They keep stirring it so it gets a nice mixed and creamy taste. It went through a few steps to get to the end and it was really cool to watch. It doesn't take long and you know your ice cream was made fresh just for you! So the large came with a waffle bowl. That smell could be smelled outside and is what originally brought me inside to check it out. I went with a chocolate bowl. My husband had a regular one. I assume they make the bowls there and that's why the smell is so strong. Mine was stale though. Honestly I was stuffed just from the ice cream and could barley finish it, so I didn't really want the bowl anyway. My husband tasted and agreed. His was fresh and really good. I'd say something next time if it happened again, but I really enjoyed my ice cream. We've been wanting to try Sub Zero for a while but the crowd has kept us away (the line is usually out the door!). We drove by yesterday and finally (!) there was no line. You can order your confection the way you like -- your own flavor and mix-ins. I like it simple so I ordered lemon custard with no mix in. I watched the young man pour the custard base into a bowl, he added flavoring and then the nitrogen turned the liquid into frozen custard! All within less than two minutes! The lemon had just enough tartness to it. As I kept eating, I could not get over how smooth it was! My husband's choice was coffee with toffee bits. It tasted like a good cup of java. My daughter's choice was chocolate with brownie -- it had the most chocolate flavor I've ever tasted. My only regret was I ordered a small! Sub Zero will be seeing us again very soon! read more

I was exited at first to see that they offered a sugar free version of thier product so I order a sugar free carmel with pecans. I was very disapointed. I literaly could not taste any carmel and it was barely even sweet. It had very little flavor at all, very bland. Thier main bragging point is how creamy thier product is because of the nitrogen freezing process. Well mine was rather icey and not creamy at all. And it was all very expencive considering the portion size. Carmel finally has an ice cream place again! This is a little non-conventional, but it's pretty good. You can customize by choosing your cream, flavour, and mix-ins amd then watch them freeze it in liquid nitrogen, which doesn't affect the taste. There are also other things you can get that are typical of an ice cream shop (shakes, floats, etc.). I indulged in a chocolate M&M ice cream cup and you can't really go wrong with that. I told the worker to nicely please either remake or takeoff bill because it was absolutely ridiculously small. He said it was against his policy and refused to remake. The workers are very personable and always have a smile. They give you feedback on what you order if you ask or warn you if flavors are going to taste "weird" together. I wanted sugar-free last night and the workers kindly informed me that it tastes more bitter and freezes more like a popsicle, which I appreciated. I've found that SubZero is the best ice cream place in Carmel! They offer vegan, lactose-free and sugar-free options, which I believe is almond milk. All of their ingredients and syrups are completely natural and don't have carrageenan, which I'm very sensitive to due to my joint pain. From what I've learned, their previous manager which many had issues with was dismissed late last year, and the workers seem happier too.
