On a busy Friday night, this store had four young teens running it. We had to wait a bit which I expected, but as soon as I reached the counter things went south. The young girl asked me what I wanted twice as the employees casually discussed what time they get to leave, being asked by friends to play roblox/minecraft as they worked, etc. I don't mind chit chat, but it was unprofessional and made it clear they lacked experience. I asked for oat-milk as a base. The consistency looked disgusting. I asked why it was chunky looking and was told that it's always like that because it's frozen. I hesitate but move on. I asked for a large while the person in front of me asked for a regular. His ice cream bowl was stacked up with 3-4 large scoops overflowing the cup. My "large" had tiny scoops (the nitrogen part wasn't finished when he started scooping) barely brimming the bowl. His was 4x my size. We asked to be charged for a small (after the kids had all stopped what they were doing to argue about cup sizing). I walk away from the counter at this point because I'm fuming. My husband pays, we leave, and I finally try my ice cream. It tasted like flavorless oat milk with cookie dough mixed in. It was supposed to be chocolate. There should have been an adult present to manage the mess occurring. The line grew as we stood and it seemed as though this stressed the teens out enough that they got sloppy. 2/3 of our ice creams were inedible. Such a fun experience! When you go here you not only receive ice cream, but you also are entertained as you watch them create a magical masterpiece before your eyes. Service was helpful and quick.Pretty busy inside and a little loud so if you plan on having an intimate conversation maybe take it to go... Many tables to choose from. Something I didn't realize until after I'd ordered is that there is a coffee cafe that sells from within their shop... I will return to try the coffee and report back. I walked in as I needed my coffee fix and they have a coffee float. Hello. The service was amazing and they explained how they make the ice cream fresh with nitrogen then the pulled a couple shots of espresso and boom a yummy drink. If I could say one thing, possibly the customer service could've been a little bit better like explaining what was going on and how the ice cream is made and what not (we were first timers there). The ice cream was delicious. We came in on an absolute scorcher of a summer day and ordered the banana cream pie bismuth and an affogato. The banana cream pie bismuth was truly out of this world insanely delicious, and so huge that myself, my partner and our daughter all sharing it could not finish it. The affogato was a little odd to me but that's my fault for adding almonds on top. It was just too much going on texturally but the espresso was so rich and excellent and with the creamy and dense ice cream it was seriously decadent. I keep trying this place because they're close and my kid likes it. But I just can't with them anymore. The first issue I have is that it's all gimmick and no substance. Case in point, the first time I had Subzero (on Mass Ave shortly after they opened) was back when they had a non-soy, non-dairy base option (I can't remember whether it was almond or coconut milk because I like both, but it was one of the two). That was great. Yet the one in Carmel has never had that as an option, which sucks for those with dietary restrictions or specifications that would allow for this kind of treat with either of those choices. Another thing is that the syrups they use are gross. We had a raspberry chocolate with choc chip mix-in. The raspberry syrup bordered on disgusting, tasting nothing like raspberries and reminding me of how fake cherry can taste like cough medicine--only worse. Like straight-up chemicals in a bowl. Second major issue is the service in Carmel. It's like a lot of places in the Arts & Design. You get these snotty teenagers who look at you like you have three heads. My 14-yr-old and I wanted the same exact thing, I wanted a little and I knew he would eat more than a lot. So rather than ordering a small and a regular, I asked for a large and an extra (paper) bowl. I was questioned about it, twice down the line and once again at the register and given all manner of stink eye. "You know what MacKenzie or Tiffany or Mercedes or whatever your names are, just make my flipping order and stop with the judgement." And that's not the first time the service has bordered on obnoxious. Needless to say, after giving this joint more than a fair shake, with having gone there a handful of times, I won't be back. Super cool, food science in action! I took my niece for ice cream and talked her into getting the Birthday Cake Capacitor in a regular size, so that I could have a few bites. I wished I had gotten my own! Holy cow that was good! The only downfall is that it does take time and they can only make three concoctions at a time. So if there's a long line, I'd go elsewhere. They are so delicious and are offered in many flavors as well as dairy and sugar free options (same goes for their ice cream!!) Can't think of a better way to spend a chilly night than strolling down the arts district with a cup of this yummy hot beverage!! The staff is super friendly and helpful! Last night was my second and final visit to this location of Sub Zero! We ordered two vegan base ice cream creations and it was very clear the teenager mixing was clueless about which milk was vegan, syrup types and amounts! We ended up with two flavorless icy liquids. The two teens at the register were super unhelpful in figuring out what could've gone wrong and stuck by their policy of no remaking a creation, even though it was CLEARLY not mixed or frozen properly. Our first visit was a very different experience. The vegan base ice cream was creamy and flavorful true to the creation we both made! The inconsistency in who mixes and freezes your creation makes all the differences. The first two pictures are what we got last night, the third picture is what I got on our first visit. Huge difference! I threw mine in the trash it was not worth the calories. I know it's hard to find good help these days but the teens working at 8:30 pm on 8/3/21 were terrible! They need to be re-trained and get some lessons in customer service. It was obvious it was close to closing time and they would rather have been anywhere but at Sub Zero. Did some research on this company, and liked what we read on them. Seen some reviews both good and bad, but we like to give a try ourselves. So my lady order there tropical fusion with waffle cone and she got Me a create your own of peach, strawberry, and raspberry. With mine it was more syrup, which had the taste of cough syrup than fresh fruit. The peaches are not fresh what so ever, they are from a can, which brings up some health concerns. Before making this ice cream there should be a warning on if fresh or canned products the reason being is for a person battling end stage can products are much higher in phospourous contents because the way they process it opposed to fresh fruits, if I had known I would not have ordered here. I as well doubt we would have been told ad the kids working here seems like a paycheck is more important than customer service. Also when my lady was in there she asked for mixed berries, the guy said they did not have that option, she said you got blueberries, raspberries, strawberries, those are mixture of berries, she got a blank stare. So either these employees don't care, or very uneducated on thinking for themselves on how to create ice cream. Also for both our regular sized ice creams it was about 16 dollar, really not worth it. From what we seen on shark tank and other videos, I do not feel we got this awesome ice cream advertised. The newest ice cream fad is already getting old. I understand where the hype came/is coming from, but this really didn't live up to my expectations. There was a line out of the door and it was very crowded in the small shop. However it was clean and not too cold despite there being liquid nitrogen nearby. The ice cream itself was that quality of Bub's down the road, if not slighter lower. They use tons of food coloring (to appeal to kids?) and the only flavor out of the three I ordered that was edible was mint chocolate chip, which already was subpar. The helpings are huge and the pineapple peach flavor looked like Fanta, and not in a good way. I couldn't make it halfway through one of the ice creams because of how sweet they were, and I usually can eat a pint of ice cream at a time. TL;DR: Too sweet, very mediocre, long lines, definitely not worth your time or money. I'd suggest just going to Bub's for their ice cream in the area. read more

After our BOGO dinner at Scotty's, I was craving something sweet. Neither of us had been here yet, so across the street we went. It instantly won bonus points with the hubby for involving science and ice cream. We both watched as nitrogen mist rolled out from their mixing bowls, it was kind of hypnotizing, but definitely fun. You choose the size, base of your ice cream (original cream, custard, low-fat, etc), the flavors to add to your cream-base (vanilla, chocolate, etc-its a long list), and which toppings you'd like to mix in (also a long list). Then they mix it all up under the liquid nitrogen until it becomes ice cream! He went with the small Birthday Cake Capacitor and I made my own small concoction. I always enjoy making my own things, especially sweet ice cream treats! They did warn me that mixing flavors in the cream would all come out as one flavor, so keep that in mind for mixing. I had brownie batter and cheesecake flavors added to the original cream base. I added cookie dough and brownie bites as my mix-ins. I was very satisfied with my creation, but I wish there was a smaller size than the small. It was a lot to eat after just having dinner! It was over $13 for just the two of us, which was more than what dinner cost so it is a bit pricey. I think it was a fun thing to do though. read more

We really wanted to try the nitrogen icecream. Heard a lot of reviews in general but never gave the nitrogen icecream a shot. Decided to go for it on a warmer evening with a craving for dessert. The line moved pretty quickly and we ordered a sugar free icecream for a diabetic guest and a custard base mango icecream. The icecream was made right in front of us which was a pretty cool process for someone new to the whole nitrogen icecream concept. The sugar free icecream was plain as expected but we combined a whole lot of nuts which gave an overall hint of nuttiness to the strawberry flavor. In general we really enjoyed our visit and do recommend trying out the icecream if you are wanting something sweet and then enjoy the beautiful, laid back Carmel downtown which is always abuzz with people and pets. read more

I noticed Sub Zero one night when we were out for dinner in downtown Carmel because the line was out the door and everyone in sight was eating ice cream. After dinner we headed over and only waited about 5 minutes before ordering. They have so many creations to pick from with flavors and milk types. It starts out as all liquid which is weird but then the nitrogen turns it into ice cream. You get to watch them mix it up and it feels like you're in a science lab doing an experiment. After much debate I went with the banana creme pie flavor and got the medium since I was sharing. It was massive! Even for 2 people we had a hard time finishing it.
