A friend recommended this new matcha place and I'm so glad I tried it. If you liked Starbucks iced ube coconut latte, you will LOVE the ube viet coffee at Subco. It was an elevated, well-crafted drink. The ube foam was thick and very sweet, the coconut flakes were freshly roasted and chewy, crispy and flavorful. It was a warm day and this drink was so refreshing. The decor felt a bit stark to me - grey and bold Aegean blue felt neither cozy and warm nor cool, crisp and elegant to me. In the Arlington area for shopping and I decided to stop by Subco to try their matcha and it did not disappoint. I ordered the Jasmine Matcha Cloud (Jasmine milk and matcha blend). I was also close to ordering the strawberry matcha cloud latte which is Japanese matcha and milk topped with strawberry foam, perfect for strawberry matcha lovers like yours truly. The jasmine one was not too sweet as is with just the right amount of flavor in my opinion, but you do have the option to change the sweetness level if you want less sugar. Additionally, I liked that you can choose what matcha option you want in your latte; either Uji Matcha (rich umami flavor) or Kagoshima Matcha (strong, smooth, and sweet profile). I really like Subco! I've gotten a variety of their drinks such as the ube viet coffee, jasmine matcha, banana matcha, and one of their strawberry drinks. The baristas have all been super nice and welcoming. They have 2 options for matcha and I have gotten the stronger matcha. I really enjoy it as it is a deeper and slightly nutty flavor. I also got all my drinks less sweet which definitely is the way to go imo. My fave drinks were the ube viet coffee and banana matcha. My least favorite was the jasmine matcha just cause the jasmine milk really overpowers the matcha. The ambiance is gray and concrete but with mirrors and bright furniture. This place isn't for studying or working tbh the tables are very low so it's not super practical to bring a laptop. Overall, would definitely recommend trying Subco! read more

im not even exaggerating when i say this is my the best foam ive had on a latte. genuinely the thickest and most flavorful, without being artificial/overbearing. i got the banana matcha, which is topped with a caramelized banana, and the strawberry matcha which was smooth and balanced. i will be thinking of these drinks!! the aesthetic of the place was cute, very chic almost like cafes you'd see in Korea. it was also very fast, and the workers were so nice and patient :) read more

Very much lived up to the hype! The matcha was very fresh and you could choose between the sweet or earthy matcha types. Staff were knowledgeable about items and friendly. The space is cute but very limited seating. This is not somewhere to bring work to or study so best to get your drink to-go. read more

We ordered the double matcha and the sticky rice matcha here and both were good. The matcha is a little bit grainy though and the sticky rice unfortunately could be cooked a little bit longer and grinded up so there would not be full chunks, but both drinks were decent matchas. The double matcha's cream was super delicious as well. read more

It was recommended to get the strawberry cloud matcha or banana matcha since those were the most popular matchas. Probably have to come back to try those. I got the double matcha and it was good. The matcha flavor was a bit lacking considering it was a double matcha though. The establishment is cozy with limited seating, but is decorated well with board games available for you to play with. Late post, but I came for their soft opening. I think their drinks are okay if you're wanting a matcha or coffee that's in the area. The coffee was super sweet so maybe next time I would order it half sweet. I ordered the banana matcha, but the only banana in the drink were the caramelized bananas at the top. I was expecting a banana flavor itself in the matcha. It was nice to visit during the soft opening because they gave out cookies with the order! I thought the inside looked a bit small, there were only about 4 or 5 tables kinda grouped together in a small area. I might come back another time to try out their other drinks. read more

Unfortunately, my friend and I both became sick shortly after visiting this cafe. We ordered the mango sticky rice matcha and the Montblanc coffee. The drinks tasted good, but about 30 minutes later we both developed food poisoning symptoms such as nausea and vomiting. We hadn't eaten anything else recently, so we suspect our illness may have been related to what we had here. I'm not sure what caused it, maybe an ingredient or a food handling issue, but it was a very disappointing experience. Based on what happened, I don't feel comfortable returning. read more

normally not a matcha fan but the ube matcha is very good! i got regular sweet, which may be why i liked it so much. i did not get much of the bitter matcha taste, and the ube flavor was definitely present. the bananas on top of the banana matcha tastes like plantains, which is a perfect addition to the drink. the decor is very minimalistic and cute, but the walls are grey and it may make the place seem a little bare. the staff is very nice and quick. read more

Best matcha i've had ever. service was quick and easy. it's a small place definitely not for like studying or anything.

Got the banana matcha - absolutely loved the taste honestly, esp the banana slices on top, I give it a 10/10. Also got the lemon raspberry muffin - was warmed beforehand which was great, give it a 7/10. Ambiance was good - wasn't super packed so was able to get a table and enjoy my drink. Customer service was disappointing - not on the barista's end, but the cashier. Didn't say hello and was off putting to the experience - seemed like she didn't wanna be there. Interacting with her made the experience less enjoyable - 3/10. Overall, I'd give it a 7/10 for the whole experience. Good options if you're in the area, but maybe next time I try, the cashier is nicer or in a better mood. Prices aren't too bad considering the area and the other coffee shops nearby. read more

The place was amazing. The inside was very pretty with grey lime wash walls. Their drinks are good visually and taste. The barista was patient and gave us free cookies for their soft opening. 10/10 would recommend. I got the pine coco breeze and my bsf got the strawberry matcha.
