Clean, quick, and delicious--what more could you ask for from a sub shop? This place came highly recommended by a friend, and it certainly lives up to the hype. Be sure to order the sandwiches with everything as they come. I usually skip the onions, but I'm glad I didn't here. My hoagie was perfect, with chewy bread, thinly sliced meat, and just the right amount of condiments, making every bite a delight. The interior is clean and has plenty of seating, though I didn't notice a bathroom, so keep that in mind.

You CAN go home again! This was our go to after party spot when I was just just a kiddo and the butter garlic fries are as good as I remembered.

I came across this sub shop for the first time when driving in that area. The old school sign caught my attention and saw it was founded in 1985. I thought what better than a sub from a place solid enough to be open 40 years. And boy was I right! Super fresh ingredients, the perfect ratio of everything (I had the Depth Charge with everything plus mustard), and their bread is absolutely delicious! Everyone in there was friendly and helpful with me trying to decide on what to order. I wish there were more mom & pop sub shops like this everywhere so folks would STOP ordering from places like Jimmy John's, for example (if only everyone who orders from there would realize they're also supporting a disgusting man who grins ear to ear poaching endangers animals and throwing millions of dollars at Trump...) SUPPORT LOCAL BUSINESSES and enjoy the taste of a REAL sub sandwich like this place makes! I'll definitely be back soon even though they're a bit of a hike from where I live. It's so worth it though!

Outstanding old school submarine sandwich. Just like an Italian deli makes. You will not be disappointed!

Small local neighborhood submarine shop that hit the spot. Ordered the combination sub and it was perfect.

Ask the Community - Submarine Tender

I'm looking to try something new here any suggestions what's your order?

Everything is good! They have great subs and hot food as well. Definitely get an order of BG fries (butter and garlic) and add a side of cheese if that's what you like.

    U can't go wrong?

    Nope!

The interest in visiting has always been there because I work nearby and ever since I tried their fries which were ordered by my coworker, I wanted to visit. Poor Boy sits along Roosevelt Rd in a high traffic area in Maywood. The parking lot itself is private with an acceptable number of parking spaces available. While pulling my vehicle into a parking space, I could not ignore the smell of the food looming in the air which built anticipation to enter. Once I entered, I stood in a line which gave me time to browse the menu as the customer ahead of me ordered. After the customer ordered, the employee took my order, giving off an enthusiastic vibe in the process. Here I was thinking that I would visit and order just fries, but nope! That changed once I saw the fish sandwich on the menu as an option. I was asked by the employee if I wanted the combo instead and I accepted! Now best believe I was not going to visit Poor Boy and not order those delicious fries that my coworker knows that I love. My order was completed in no more than 8 minutes, and I was well on my way. I opted out of dine-in, choosing to take my order to go because I did not want to be in the area long. We all know how terrible the traffic is in the area, and I had no interest in being out in it. Moreover, the restaurant appeared decently clean, and the atmosphere gave off a fast-food restaurant vibe. And inside, there were an acceptable number of tables with seats inside of the dining area. Upon getting inside of my vehicle I could not resist eating those fresh tasting fries before even driving out of the parking space, tehehe. It was a good thing that I had them in my lap eating them because they helped calm my nerves while being amongst impatient drivers along Roosevelt Rd. I swear! The elastic on my panties is wearing out from having to pull them up, just to deal with impatient drivers on the road. I must admit that food cures anything, but I do wish that the employees did not chunk extra un-bagged loose fries inside of the bag, burying my fish sandwich underneath in the process. I mean come on, sheesh! The first bite of the fish sandwich left me with a mouth full of fish, lettuce, tomato, and tartar sauce! However, the first words out of my mouth after swallowing that first bite was, "Mmm, that is good!". I have to say that the fish sandwich swayed the rating I had intended on giving Poor Boy because of those loose fries. I am glad that I finally considered visiting because it would have prolonged the chance of tasting their fish sandwich. I could very well re-visit and order from Poor Boy again because it sits in an area that I frequent. Whenever that visit depends on the craving of my tastebuds at the time. He hesitated some more and replied "I can just tell the manager." The other employee were looking at me bewildered that I was asking about a mistake. No one else chimes in they just stared. I said I don't mind if thr price changed but they need to either change it on the menu or tell customers when ordering. When did principals become taboo to question?!
