The places looked clean and the service was good. The owner walked around to each table and asked how was their food and if they needed anything. I ordered the breakfast platter with bacon, cheese eggs, home fries with peppers and onions, and a side of french toast. I ordered a "large" OJ, no free refills. They were veryyy generous with the bacon and the cheese for my eggs. I love bacon and cheese so I have no complaints. The french toast wasn't bad but it wasn't warm enough to melt the butter on it. The home fries were pretty average. When we got the check, my friends and I had our cards with the receipt on the edge of the table so the waitress could take it. We waited for 10mins and waved down our waitress to take the bill. Then she told us we had to pay at the front. I usually love coming to Suburban because they have very fast service and staff. However, i am BEYOND infuriated. My boyfriend and i had been our our way back from the aquarium and couldn't be hungrier, so we chose suburban for a quick bite. I'm guessing our waitress was new or something, or perhaps not, regardless she was absolutely incapable of doing her job. First of all, she didn't introduce herself at all. She just came to the table and said what would you like? Didn't ask for drinks. I still don't know her name. She took our order which consisted of a soup, quesadillas and chicken fingers. Easy. We watched the minutes tick by as we waited STARVING. She took 20 minutes to bring out our French Onion soup, (which usually comes out within 5 minutes after you order it), and when she brought it out it was WARM. Not even hot. We ate it anyway because we were starving. We watched as she ran around frazzled, telling random tables that the "kitchen was backed up" whist we had been sitting for 30 minutes at this point. HOLY SHIT. AND she was saying this as we watched families who came after us, receive TRAYS of their food brought to them. There was another 20 minute span when she didn't even go into the kitchen. This lady was on another planet. The kicker is, when we finally got our food, my boyfriend's chicken & cheese quesadillas, had little pieces of ham in it....and and his "sour cream" was BUTTER. I think anyone within 20 minutes driving knows about this place and frequents it regularly. The biggest highlight of this place is the 24/7 opening. There's not many places in the area that stay open past 9 on a weekday. And even on the weekends you can only find so many places to hang out, and most are very loud bars. The service here is also phenomenal. I've been here quite a few times and occasionally with giant groups (15 people maybe more) in college. The team working quickly would get an area ready for us and rearrange tables to make the seating comfortable for us. Even in the large groups, food was always well prepared and delivered quickly. The food itself is typical dinner food. I fell that it was all very well prepared but definitely not healthy, though that's to be expected. The Suburban diner is family owned and operated and I have been going here for years. The menus give you a good chance of getting what you want, hot and in a good sized portion. The service is fair, no one is in a rush to serve you and many times you will see your server sitting in a back booth. The food is tasty and their breakfast menu has just about anything your little heart desires. I usually find it difficult to finish the huge portions that are served. They have an in house bakery and display their goods behind the counter as well as a huge case of goodies, where you can purchase slices or whole pies, cakes and pastries. They also have a soup and salad bar. The lunch and dinner menu offers homemade specialties of comfort foods as well as a huge assortment of appetizers, soups, salads and sandwiches. I'm not going to sit here and tell you that it is the best diner around, because it is not, but for the price, portions and choices, it's worth checking out. read more

Surburban Diner has the misfortune of sitting at one of the ugliest intersections on the East Coast - Street Road X Bustleton Pike. Man, where were the urban planners when we needed them? Recently with all the bad weather drivers have been too busy dodging potholes to notice that the entire zone is really one Grand Canyon sized pothole. Once safely in the parking lot the challenge becomes finding a slot for your wheels. The lot is undersized for the capacity of the facility, but if you drive behind the building and turn right, you might get lucky. Once inside, the familiarity of Diner World takes control and you know what needs be done. Wait to be seated at booth or table, or slide past the throng at the door, turn right, and take a spinning stool at the counter - no waiting. So moved. I was promptly greeted by a kind waitress in black and white who deposited a multi paged breakfast menu and inquired about a drink. Coffee, please. She turned and poured mine into a white mug from the antique Cecilware Auto Coffee Urn. Can't get those any more, but back in the day they were the best way to make large volumes of java. Still great Joe. She returned often to refill. I ordered the Whole Wheat French Toast. It arrived on white oval industrial ceramic, dusted with powdered sugar. The middle slice of bread stood on edge mid-plate, like a mainsail mast in a sea of Maple Syrup. The bread was fresh and a thick cut. It was super absorbent. No matter how much syrup I pour on it, there was nothing at the bottom of the plate to sop up with the FT. Three additional pours and still not a drop. Oh, but the meal got sweeter. I was impressed. In years of French Toast sampling, I have come to prefer a thinner sliced bread over the thicker version, because the egg absorbs more completely, and with a hot grill carmelization takes place where hot metal cauterizes the egg/bread surfaces, creating a mild crispiness. Still, this stuff was pretty good for thick cut, and I had no complaints. Clearly, Suburban Diner has its loyal followers. A look around the dining room disclosed a predominance of seniors, some with children and grandkids. The place seemed wholesome. The bakery turned out some pretty cakes and pies. Maybe next time for that. With "I Love Lucy" playing in black and white on the TV, it was easy to slip into a time warp and imagine myself in a Back to The Future moment. I enjoyed the experience on several levels, but I am not sure I would put Suburban Diner on my short list of fandom. read more

Ok I usually don't yell at people. But when management is ignorant I don't have a choice. October 25,2022 7 PM went to this diner waitress is very nice, ordered the Veal Parmesan dinner And it came as two patties. I hate the first one it was fine the second one was like cutting through bones. I politely called the waitress over and told her about it and she said she was gonna go to the manager who was walking around pretty much Back-and-forth most of the time while I was there however when I complained he disappeared like Houdini. The waitress came back and said he commented that I ate half the meal. Have to meal is correct because there was two patties the other patty was cut into but was tough and not edible. She then returned and the manager extended me a 10% discount totaling $4.10 off a $22 veal Parmesan dinner. He never came to my table he never apologized and I have been going there for over 20 years and have never had this experience in this diner. I'm not sure if it was sold in on the new management or if the new regime or I should say the younger family is taking it over. I suggest be aware if you walk into this diner and you have a bad meal because they don't believe that they serve bad food. It was an easy fix but I was treated like a stranger and not a local, in any event with the prices that they are in today's world management should at least step in and do the right thing. I figured he needed it more than I did so I refused a 10% pay my bill in full and I will never even if I am starving ever ever walk into that suburban diner again I live literally 1 mile from this place and unless this manager has a chance to read this yelp review and gets in touch with me and talks to me like a gentleman and a businessman to rectify this issue I will make sure that I will socially share this experience. This place has pretty much anything that you could think of on the menu. However, many things aren't worth the price. The Italian food leaves much to be desired, and the salad bar is rather unappealing. Service is hit or miss- one of the waiters flipped out when a friend gave him a dollar tip on a five dollar check- please keep in mind that said friend was only in the restaurant for about 20 minutes They earned two stars because of the desserts- which are pretty great. I had the chicken marsala it comes with soup or salad bar and 2 vegetables or side of spaghetti and bread with butter for less than $20. I opted for the salad bar and it was your standard, no frills salad bar - 2 choices of greens, different veggies, pasta salads, potato salad, etc. I never received the advertised bread with butter but I didn't bother me. The chicken marsala over spaghetti was more than enough with plenty for leftovers. We had no complaints about our food. I ordered the chicken croquettes, a diner classic what could go wrong. They were bland, the stuffing of the croquettes was puréed you couldn't make out chicken verse filling. My Wife had a club and same thing turkey bread and bacon, but it to was a miss pick. The menu is huge and there is NO WAY to make all those menu items good. This is one of my favorite diners! I've been here on numerous occasions at 9pm as well as 3am, the consistency of the food is great. I've never had anything bad from here. I've never had an issue with the food or workers and my only complaint, as is with most restaurants, is the noise level when crowded. That comes with the territory. The sauce on my Suburban Benedict had no real flavor. Would be surprised if it was made from scratch. It was weak. But the problem was the eggs were hard cooked. Benedict eggs are to be soft when you cut into them. I rarely complain but asked the manager to come over to look. He immediately saw the problem and offered to make a fresh dish but I was too tired to wait. He followed up and offered us a free dessert. He handled it perfectly. Had a terrible experience today. All of the plates that the food was served on had a terrible moldy smell. It was like a dirty rag that wasn't washed and was being used to dry the plates. Have been going here since I was a kid. Heck, I remember when they still had a smoking section! I've had many dishes here but my go-to's are rather unassuming - chicken fingers and onion rings. Not something I usually order or eat much of AT ALL, but there's something about the way they bread their chicken and onion rings that I LOVE. You have to order it with the honey mustard.
