Upon arrival, the first thing you notice is the decor. It's weird. No rhyme, reason, or theme. Seems random and off putting. But some of the best places are a little strange, and if the food is good, I would expect most people could get by it. Secondarily, we had the slowest service. We weren't greeted for over 20 minutes. The two waitresses we had, evidently didn't communicate. Both were back and forth for 20 minutes deciphering drink orders. Now 40 minutes, they're asking us if we want refills but not if we wanna place food. We had to ask them!!! Running food isnt their strong suit either, and the quality of food was not worth the wait. No one person of our party seemed to have a good experience. Hopefully the staff can turn the experience around for their future customers. read more

This place can get very very packed! Very popular and very good prices! I enjoyed a spinach omelet with some hot cocoa. The hot coco looked like a heavenly piece of art with a whipped cream carnation .so decadent!! Delicious. My eggs were delicious. I enjoyed the old Hollywood decor. Back few years ago. I always enjoyed having breakfast hear. But recently I came hear to get breakfast and was very disappointed with the quality of the food. And the staff. When u enter you have minimum $10 for credit or debit. But when you get inside you have another sign that says. $10 minimum and no tips allowed on credit cards. Something I have never really heard of.. Well the places I've been to. I understand some places want to make these kind of rules. Because of the card fees. But business do need to understand that we are the ones that keep them in business.. And also the tip rule. Well that hurts the server. Because say family of 4 comes in use a card and has no cash on them. How do they tip the server?? I won't come back hear for morning breakfast... Need to look at other good spots for good breakfast.. read more

As soon as I stepped on the front steps I knew I was going to like this place because of the sign up front - "All You Can Eat $1000.00" lmao. Erwin's has been on my list to try out since I moved to Bensalem, and I'm not sure why I kept passing it along but I'm so glad I finally went in. It was midweek at about 11 am and by the time we were getting ready for a late breakfast, the place was in full swing with tables full of regulars ready for lunch. The menu selection is concise, especially for lunch, but I came here for some schnitzel and potato salad so I was just excited it was only $5.50! My hubby ended up getting the schnitzel as well, but with mash potatoes and gravy which was also an amazing choice. As we sipped on our coffee which was nice an strong we also enjoyed some buttered rye and took the homey diner-esque decor. Once the food arrived it did not look like much on these giant white plates, but it was all delicious! The potato salad was some of the best I've ever had, and if that's not your style, then definitely do the creamy mashed potatoes and gravy that will transport you back to Thanksgiving dinners of 1968. I am looking forward to coming back and enjoying some breakfast which seems popular, and other comfort food items. For the price and taste, it is the perfect mom & pop place to check out. read more

My party of two stopped here for a late Saturday morning breakfast (around 11 AM). Upon entering the small dining room we were greeted from across the room and who I assume was the hostess pointed/directed us to an open table. A not so friendly waitress came to the table and dropped off menus saying she'd be right with us. Shortly thereafter she took the order from another party of two who was seated after us. When it came time to place the order, I asked if the onions in my Western omelette could be finely chopped and got a death stare. There was an awkward pause before she told me the omelet add 'ins are pre-cut so there was no way of getting the onions cut any smaller. Fair enough. The omelette came with home fries which I asked to be cooked well done and your choice of toast. I started to get anxious as patrons who came in after us were served their food before us. The waitress would come by the table every 5-10 minutes and ensure us our food was coming. When the food was finally served, the omelette was good but the home fries were under cooked which was disappointing after waiting 25+ minutes to eat. Perhaps they were off their game that day, I would like to give them another shot to see if the service and food is better. read more

My wife and I stopped there for a late lunch/early dinner around 4PM on Saturday. The first thing you notice is the odd decor, lots of random pictures covering the walls. Then the awful 1950's music which is downright painful. The Waitress was nice and friendly, and she informed us that the cook just finished making the soup special. She added that it was a delicious vegetable chowder. We ordered the soup and sandwiches. The soup was very interesting, it looked more like thick, muddy water and tasted just as bad. It contained some vegetables and bits of mystery meat. Could have been chicken or might have been ham. My wife's turkey sandwich was actually good and came with a side of German potato salad, which was not good. One bite and you couldn't get the harsh vinegar taste out of your mouth. I got the cheese steak which came with a side order of fries. My sandwich and fries were barely edible. The American cheese was melted on the outside of the roll and the fries were not done. The service was ok, the food is hit and miss, mostly miss. Reasonably priced is the best thing about this place. read more

Nope. I have wanted to like this place so have given it a few attempts but this last one was the final straw. The service was less than stellar, as was the food. Felt greasy and heavy. As we were waiting on our food, I went to the restroom to wash my hands & the bathroom was absolutely disgusting. The toilet was not flushed, there were wet paper towels all over the floor and sink. Kielbasa Western Omelette - This has small pieces of Kielbasa cut up in the omelette with a very sweet tasting onion. I also added cheese and I can say this omelette was very good which was accompanied by homemade home fries with onions done german style. After eating the meal I felt full and a healthy full not like all those processed breakfast places like IHOP with there nasty nasty chemicals. The three of us all ate for a total of 20.41 total bill and that was with two coffees. I would definitely come back here and try more of there menu items that specialize in some interesting German menu items. So I have no idea why but a friend and I went for breakfast and our waitress so simply disrespectful and rude for absolutely no reason to the point she'd say things out loud when walking away like she wanted to hit one of us if she had to bring something else. Every other waitress I've ever had here has been great but the tall lady.... Insane. We asked for coffee and after 10 minutes she had another waitress bring it over. Again, I have absolutely no idea what her problem was when we were being nothing but respectful because both my friend and I loved coming. I make it a point to meet here with my cousins for breakfast or lunch because it's real ... really great old fashioned food, servers and atmosphere. So, don't be too discouraged as you drive down the street looking for 4059. There it is on the south side of the street with the small white sign hanging high above the front door. Rest assured that once you come inside you will be relieved to find yourself smack in the middle of 1959, greeted by a black and white poster of Marilyn Monroe and another of a more colorful James Dean. Rebel Without A Cause. But, this time warping is a good thing. The spacious dining room relaxes and helps recollect a time when things were good in grandma's home. The wait people were lovely and straight from central casting. They were in perpetual motion, bringing fresh coffee and large white plates full of grub to the starving masses. When I came in, a group of ladies were in a breakfast meeting, and it looked like they might have been there for several years. They showed no inclination to leave, and remained after I departed. I wondered about their agenda. The deuce along the wall in the back space near the kitchen was a great place to watch the play unfolding. The coffee came quickly in an odd mug, and with large half/half cupettes. It was constantly refreshed before I reached the bottom, and it was not difficult to maintain the proper proportion of java to cream with small pours from the creamers. I ordered the French Toast (as I usually do), and was asked for the first time in my life whether I wanted thick or thin sliced bread. Astute question. While the intuitive decision is to get more and go with the thick cut, I have the contrary opinion. Too often the thicker Texas/Challah Style leaves the bread eggless in its heart, and thus dry. I prefer the thinner option as it tends to be moist to the center, thoroughly cooked, and better carmelized on the surface. Those burn points provide the crunch I desire. When the plate arrived, it had six half slices of toast, well grilled, and heavily sprinkled with powdered sugar. A small paper cup of butter allowed for a light application of lubricant and additional subtle flavoring. The syrup came in an old spring load top pitcher, which I promptly lifted over the plate for a healthy pour. The French Toast was quite good, but not attaining the pantheon of the gods. It needed another minute on the hot grill, and a drop of vanilla in the egg mix for soft mellow unique sweetness. I will return to see Erwin again. The menu looked to hold other secrets worth exploring, and it is not every day that I can slip in and out of the 50's without getting the bends. read more

Sunday morning breakfast around 9am and we were sat promptly. After 10 minutes, two other tables being sat and served refreshments, we were noticed. No apology only a drink request. Cream chipped beef came out on a heaping plate but tasted funny. Not that it was bad but just a spice that shouldn't of been added. The French toast was good but only had two slices of bread. The potatoes were hot but had the same spice in the cream chip beef. Good strong coffee but this place did not us impress us. First and last time. read more

I've had this place on my "to try" list of German restaurants. I was really looking forward and I hate to leave a bad review because we had the sweetest waitress, But the food was almost inedible. Not sure if they were off that day, but everything we ordered had a a funky smell, the lamb chops, the coleslaw, the liver. And worst of all half of my liver was raw, like completely raw as If it didn't even touch the frying pan. This small country kitchen located in the heart of Trevose looks outdated, but packs a punch with home cooked meals. The menu has traditional German cuisine like schnitzel. I had the Schnitzel Jaeger (red sauce, mushrooms, peppers, onions, bacon) and it was very tasty. Meals come with choice of two sides and I went with the spatula, and the sour kraut. The kraut was delicious, very well seasoned, and creamy, nothing like I've had before. The menu also has seafood, and more american style dishes which we did not try.
