I drove by this little place and just had to stop by…read more Well I must say it's a nifty little hook up! Upon first walking in you are staring at a full case of goodies. Oh sweet Jesus, a galore of cookies and sweets. I seriously had to have a conversation with myself, No sweets Wen! Don't blow the diet now, way to many protein shakes as meal replacements and workouts for that, but jeez, the thought taunted me all night! They also have broasted chicken, salsa which I tried and was quite unique tasted like a vinaigrette type salsa, quite tasty. Actually I think I love it! They also sell quarts of homemade pasta sauce with meatballs as well as premade mostaccioli meals with meat sauce. This place has a huge meat and deli section, as well as fresh salads. The prices a bit steep. I bought some marinated chicken breast which I grilled, quite fresh and tasty. They also have all kinds of breads and regular fare of groceries. This place carries many locally made products and is a nice little place. I highly recommend stoping by to check this place out.

The kifles are so yummy!! They have a hot food section and I've eaten several items there. The ribs are always a hit. My little one likes to get a corndog from the deli. The meat counter/deli runs the entire length of the store. You can get house made sausages, and almost anything you might want for dinner. I personally love the olives and the precut cheese pieces. They make a nice snack while I'm waiting at practice. All the staples are here and a giant selection of wines as well.

We tried several items and would easily get all of them again: Pizza slices - generously sized square slices $2.69/slice; crunchy crust, small cup pepperonis, not too greasy and all together a great tasting slice but could use a few more pepperonis per slice Meatball sub- GREAT sauce and meatballs, and I am picky about eating anyone else's meatballs other than my own Off the Boat Hoagie: spicy capicola and other spicy coldcuts and cheese (couldn't remember them all) baked inside an extra large soft roll, served warm. It was VERY GOOD. At first seemed like a lot of bread in proportion to deli cuts, but it was a perfect ratio given the spiciness of the coldcuts inside. Cannoli - light shell and filling, not overly sweet. Really liked that they used a dusting of chocolate powder (not bitter cocoa) on the ends vs hard chocolate chips. This has become my new favorite bakery for cannolis! Definitely coming back here to try more of their hot and cold subs and dishes like lasagna, pasties, soups and pasta. Other than those fantastic cannolis they have other delectable pastries, breads, cookies and desserts to try. They also carry specialty Italian grocery items, a large deli with a good selection of meats and cheeses and cold takeout fridges with pastas, whole pizzas and lasagna to bake at home. Very friendly staff, consistent stream of customers picking up subs, pizza slices, breads, and 3 small tables with chairs in the store to sit and enjoy the food if you can't wait until you get home.

I didn't even see the place (although I did choose it), but my dad really liked it. It reminded him of one of the Claro's Italian Markets in Southern California. I was looking forward to my slices of cheese pizza, but my brother called from the deli to inform me that they only had pepperoni by the slice. Look, I get it. Most people want pepperoni, and when you're serving by the slice, you can't try all these random combos that people might not eat. But no cheese? As in the most basic pizza option? That feels wrong. When I had my veggie sandwich a little later, it was very good. My brother had persuaded the guy to throw in some additional mushrooms. The bread was top notch, and I enjoyed the sandwich. For the price, it should have either been larger or included more vegetables, cheese, all of the above, anything. My dad really enjoyed his sandwich, but my brother was left wanting by his meatball sub. The local-brand potato chips were a nice touch. They use way too much plastic wrap.

I can't believe the place is still here after all of these years. There are 2 types of subs here: Italian, and "Other Subs", so you know that this shop sprang from the vibrant Italian community that once populated Detroit. The Italian Subs at Gonella's are ordered according to how many layers it builds up (which I think is a unique concept). These layered Gonella Italian Subs are layered with a variety of Italian meats (Hard Salami, Salami Cotto, Mortadella, Smoked Ham and Capicola), provolone cheese, lettuce, tomatoes, onions & Gonella's homemade dressing. Soft sub buns, tons of stacks of meat, lettuce and tomato or not. No one goes hungry after a sub here. Some deli spots tend to skimp on the protein, but not this place. My team members favorite is the Italian, 6 stacks. I usually will go for a turkey or chicken stack. They offer up to 18 stacks, haven't tried that yet.
