I was later to learn that McDonald's has a contract with a very large coffee roaster that tries to do it right and not over roast and to use quality beans. But at the time, back then, I went back with some gallon jugs and filled it up with water from the McDonald's in order to do a taste test in my own home to find out if there was something in the Hempstead water that had the perfect mineral balanced for good coffee. And now, today, I am heading back to the Hempstead McDonald's in order to do a follow up taste test all of these years later. I will probably pick up a black diamond watermelon while I am in Hempstead also Coffee was bad. Burned tasting. They brought me a second cup. Also bad. I fell victim to one of those Tik Tok videos where the person shows that all three sizes of McDonalds Fries are identical. So I tested it today. The engineer in me wanted real data. So, on my road trip yesterday (see previous posting), I stopped off and filled up some bottles from the McDonalds faucet. Today, I ran some coffee using the Hempstead water and the coffee tasted pretty damn good! Is it Hempstead water? Is McDonald's filtering and making their own water for their coffee and soft drink machines? Anyone know? Still empirical. No science to back this up though, that is, to verify the mineral content. To have one in a small town is pretty special! My only scheduled visit to a convenience store is usually to get a beverage on the cheap. Fountain drinks tend to be less costly than a bottled drink. On my last stop here, I really wantrd an Icee. Surprised to find that not only are fountain drinks 79 cents everyday, but the Icees are 99 cents everyday too! This includes any size. Pretty great bargain if you ask me. Flavors of fountain drinks are not as vast as Stripes, but adequate. They do have the option to add flavoring to your favorite drink. There are three Icee flavor options although 1 was not ready when I stopped last time. No worries--my two favs coca cola and fanta red were there. Mixing the two is the only way to drink it by the way. Great drink stop at a inexpensive price.

She expected Circle K to take full responsibility for the parking lot cracks and poor surface but their reason was it was due to wear and tear. Most frustrating is the surprise I received after unwrapping my sandwich just now. It seems that the bun wasn't just precut, it was actually the bottoms of two different buns. I now understand why he was holding the sandwich so oddly. He was trying to hide that the other bun was a bottom piece and that it was not a single loaf at all. Ultimately, this didn't really affect the sandwich, but is a terrible practice. It's an odd experience that I have never really had. Someone serving you something that is blatantly not supposed to be served. It doesn't matter how much you know about food, anyone will know that it is not the way the meal is supposed to be served. There is no wiggle room. It's fast food. It's supposed to be consistent. It's not even about the quality of food. Selling your customer something like that without their knowledge beforehand is like throwing table scraps to a dog and expecting payment. It speaks volumes about how Subway values it's customers, and this incident is not the first of its kind. I have had several employees at various Subway's attempt to pass off old dry bread that obviously ins't fresh. This is just the most brazen example.
