Just went to the Subway in Hilo by the Baskin and Robbins. I haven't been there in awhile and they are getting a little pricey like every one else. I got a turkey and avocado sub. They put a good amount of meat and avocado on it, and the toasty bun was really good. It was really crowded so I took it to go. I got a drink and chips too. Next time I'll go for the special. All the times I come here or Hilo, the staff is always super nice, patient with my children, and just overall welcoming. There's this taller blonde young man who helped me today. Was disappointed that this subway was out of veggie patties, but having to travel 10 miles into Hilo was not the biggest problem of the day. Yesterday, i watched the staff of this restaurant fill all their telephone orders before serving the customers who were waiting in line. Will not be returning to this subway,as other subways in Hilo are not as confused about customer service,as is Keaau. Of course, i left without ordering and didn't think complaining to the manager would ever get any response from the owner. I could be wrong in thinking the owner doesn't care either. read more

this is the first time I've ever stood in-line for 30 minutes to order at subway with 5 people in the line. the workers are so slow. sandwhich artist they are not. one of the workers needs to take a sanitation class she kept touching her face and not changing her gloves while touching the food. they handled the money every transaction and didn't even change gloves (is there a shortage of gloves?) the service is something to be desired. read more

I'm going to give 4 because we've lived here 3+ yrs. and had never gone to a Subway here on the island. I love to cook and would just rather pick up the fresh sliced deli meat, baguette and fixins to make myself. The quality of meat/cheese obviously better that way. Given that note, I decided after a busy day to take the easy route and pick up the Thursday daily $3.99, 6" special for hubby and I which was the "Italian BMT". My first visit for this last month, enjoyed so much went again today since I was next door on a Thursday again. Although the meat/cheese not great quality the fresh flavored bread choices and all the fresh veggies totally make it a good sandwich! The 6" is perfect for us, pleasantly full and satisfied when I bring home to serve w/side of chips, fruit or pickles. Both times the sandwich makers were in-personable and stingy with the veggie choices but at least didn't " sigh" when asking for extra on couple things. They are very fast, both times in and out in under 5-7 mins. Really can't beat two tasty sandwiches for $9. Far less than Foodlands sandwiches and healthier than McDonald's. Not sure why though today my order was just over $9 when last month $8 something when same exact order. read more

After being treated like a jerk and watching the staff completely and intentionally smash my sandwich In the bag, it's fair to warn the public: if you're not from this town, don't come here. You will be treated like a jerk for asking them to make a sandwich like any other subway. Please and thank you do not exist here. Just a bunch of kids that love to ruin meals for customers. No matter how many times I asked with polite please and thank you, I left feeling like I just got a sandwich that was destroyed on purpose and I was treated like I was bothering the staff. I waited for an hour and a half for a cup of coffee! We arrived and there was no line, but we had to wait at least 30 min to even order. And then it took forever to get our order. No food, just two coffees and a slushie. The coffee was good but I couldn't figure out what could have possibly taken so long. read more

Subway in Keaau, Pahoa and Hilo used to participate in the BOGO ( Buy 1 foot long and get a second for half price) deal and it was a big help for many families and now they don't participate in the BOGO Deal. One of the main reasons I eat at any Subway is the the fresh sweeten cold ice tea however every time I go to this location in keaau they have no ice tea left in the dispenser. However now they don't have the ice tea at all. Disappointed with the keaau Subway branch. Never again will waste my time going to that location. read more

The employees make sandwiches fast, but they really need to learn some customer service skills. I've been to this Subway a couple time each week over the last month and found the employees rude when they ask customers about their order preferences, not a customer friendly environment. Aloha. Hubby and I have lived here for 1.5 years and just ran into Keaau Subway for a quick dinner after doing laundry at Suds & Duds, which we LOVE. Anyway, went in at 7:20pm. One person behind counter and one sweeping the floor with chairs already up on the tables. The counter person was very rude, did not even look at us the whole time she was making our very weak sandwiches. The lady sweeping the floor was by the cookie displays and when I commented how "yummy" they looked, she didn't even look up. If you want Subway, take the 5 minutes to drive to Pohaiku Subway. They are much more friendly and the sandwiches are nicer. Maybe the manager should look for people who want to work and not because they need money!! read more

If you're in Keaau and looking for a healthier alternative to McDonalds, this Subway is the place to go! The staff is friendly and quick and the food looked and tasted fresh! Additionally, the prices are solid - the meal of the day is $6.50 (including chips and drink). Only negative is that I didn't spot restrooms but overall a good spot! read more
