Quality is poor....used to be better. Now they make the sandwiches upside down. Who makes a sandwich with the meat and cheese on top ?

We for the Royal Roast Beef sandwich on French bread. It had roast beef, mango chutney, blue cheese, sprouts and mayo .It was so good! The sweet chutney with the tangy blue cheese, the crusty bread and fresh perfectly cooked roast beef...sandwich perfection! We also tried several items from the cold bar...it is a help yourself by weight situation. We tried the cole slaw, the sesame noodles, the sesame green beans, the spicy and sweet thai cucumbers, the turkey salad with walnuts and cranberries, the mini meatballs, the curry chicken salad, and the Mediterranean couscous. I know that sounds like a huge of food, but I only took a small portion of each, about 3-4 bites of each item..so it only came to about $12 by weight. The meatballs and the couscous were disappointing...both lacked flavor and were a bit dry. Everything else was excellent... very flavorful, fresh, and a nice selection of options to choose from. The market and bakery have a great selection of gourmet items including a wide variety of chips, many jarred items (sauces, jelly, spreads), a nice selection of pre-packages charcuterie, and an entire cheese room (think temperature and humidity controlled). They have a nice selection of cheeses to choose from. The bakery is full of amazing looking beautiful desserts which didn't try. There are a few tables inside the coffee shop area of the market if you want to eat there. We took our lunch to go and headed to the park in the center of town where there are picnic tables with umbrellas. We sat outside at a picnic table in a beautiful (and surprisingly clean) park and had a fantastic lunch!

Take out or find a table or stool to sit. I ordered the Congress, which is chicken salad, on sour dough. You have choices for your bread. I enjoyed the sandwich. I think it would have even better if I had thought to ask for the bread to be lightly toasted. I looked over the desserts and I was tempted to buy a chocolate fudge brownie but it was a bit pricey so I passed. The vibe is friendly. Locals know how to find parking. I gave up on street parking, however, and wound up at a free parking garage, within easy walking distance.

Uncommon Grounds had all the makings of a fine sit n' sip: high ceilings, superfluous interior arches, mildly darkened aesthetic, tin ceiling tiles, and an abundance of screamin' local artistry dressing up the joint. Brothers and sisters... I was stoked about the possibility of churning out some real Aldi-grade literature at one of the chunky timber perches. I was ready for a slammin cup of joe and a sick-ish vibe. Alas, all I got from behind the counter was a jersey stuffed with caustic disdain and affected arrogance. It was impressive in that the tone, delivery, volume and words were all brilliantly matched in conveying unmistakable I-wish-you'd-get-the-flip-outta-my-space-clappery. I know the exact phrasing and such would go a long way here, but the whole dang affected setup I received from the other side of the counter would be hella exhausting to recount. And not worth my time. To be clear, my time really ain't worth all that much. Now I could go on to tell you about the rest of the experience, the quality of the bagels and the consistency of the schmear, and the tones you'll find playing throughout the house-roasted brews. But as a journeyman writer in the café world, I'm not gonna waste any more descriptors on the brat-infused tea steeping at the front of house. Why? Simply because cafés are more than the drink and grub. Cafés are as solid an offering of what culture Earth has to offer across its varied continents, countries, and street corners. They are something to engage with and experience directly. Like riding a scooter across Vietnam. Like a Moroccan food market. Like wiping volcanic ash off your hiking boots after a day's hike in Cinder Cone. If the human engagement of the place is reprehensible, then in IMHO the treats and steeps don't matter. Disappointments happen. That's for sure. But I'm only gonna spend two more sentences telling you what you probably already gathered about this place. It's slippin' baby. It's slippin'.

When we entered the building, it was the quaintest, little urban shop--a counter with prepared foods on the left and a trendy restaurant entrance on the right. The market in the middle was full of curated items intended to capture customers. From fancy jarred items to unique serving tools, there was a curiosity around every corner. When we looked over the divider to the bar area, we were captivated. They advertised a happy hour that included six dollar drafts and sangrias. So, we figured we would give it a try. My husband ordered a Peroni, and I ordered one of the three specialty sangrias--the garden sangria. Since the happy hour appetizer offerings didn't interest us much, we opted to order Kalamata Polenta Frites off the regular menu. When the sangria arrived, it was garnished beautifully. The muddled fruit was an intriguing addition to the semi-sweet wine concoction--truly garden variety. While my husband's Peroni was pretty straightforward, the polenta frites knocked our socks off. They were piping hot. They were incredibly crispy. They were creamy and flavorful in the center and accompanied by a complementary dipping sauce. An item we have never experienced before in our pretty diverse travels. Needless to say, we never made it to Chianti.

There's a lovely space where a private event was just about to start that is located right behind the bar area. Took a few minutes to walk around the market and everything is immaculate with lots of great choices. It's definitely much smaller than a regular supermarket, but it's an open, airy space that I understand was taken over by a local couple recently.

And to make it worse, the owner, instead of apologizing with humility and concern to the guests that keep him in business instead writes entitled zero accountability messages back to patrons after leaving bad reviews. Honestly that's immature and short sighted. The good will of the public doesn't last forever.
