Visiting Harrisonburg, I stopped by Cook Out because I thought it was a BBQ place. I quickly…read morerealized it was something completely different, and I am really glad I decided to give it a try. I was pleasantly surprised because it felt like eating at my in-laws' home with comforting, homemade-style food that really hit the spot. I was not sure what to order, so I opted for the burger tray that came with two sides and an unsweetened iced tea. Holy smokes, the burger was totally unexpected and absolutely delicious. I also ordered onion rings and cheese bites, and they were crispy, hot, and fresh. I came back again and tried the Walking Taco, which is a bag of Doritos opened up and topped with seasoned taco meat, melted cheese, lettuce, and other taco toppings served right inside the bag. It is a fun twist on tacos and was much better than I expected. Then I came back a third day and had the quesadillas and corn dog. Okay, yes, three days in a row is a little excessive, but the food is really that good. The service is fast, and the restaurant is clean. What impressed me the most was how consistent everything was on each visit, from the quality of the food to the friendly service. But most of all, my belly was full, and this is definitely a place you must visit if you are in the Harrisonburg area.

After I drove 30 minutes home I discovered I had three pieces of sausage in a bowl. When I called the store to inquire about the pieces of sausage, the manager basically called me a liar. She said she had a headset on and distinctly heard me order three sides of sausage. I told her first of all, you can barely hear the employee speaking over the loudspeaker in the drive-through. Second, I had no idea what a side of sausage even was. The person taking my order got it incorrect initially and I had to correct them. To the best of my ability, I thought I heard the rest of my order correctly. I don't care as much about the incorrect order as I care about the manager insinuating I was lying. She eventually did offer to replace the pieces of sausage with actual biscuits, which I declined. I informed her that if I decided to drive 30 miles for sausage biscuits, I would most certainly purchase my own. Not telling customers you believe that they're lying would go a long way toward good customer service.

I will admit I am not the biggest fan of Pho as I don't eat beef and have been disappointed in the past by most non-beef Pho options. However, this place has great reviews so I wanted to check it out. One thing about me, even if I don't like something, I will always keep giving it another shot! I'm so glad I did because the moment we walked in, I could tell this place would be good. It smelled incredible in there! Also this place was packed, and more and more people kept coming in within the hour of them being closed. You can definitely tell that this is a local favorite, especially for JMU students. I got the seafood pho and was blown away! It was so flavorful and actually tasted phenomenal. I ate every bit of it. In the past I've found Pho to be bland, but not this one! I added a ton of condiments and such to it which made it even better. My husband got a weekend special, I believe it was a pork chop plate and he really enjoyed his dish as well.

The store itself offers a couple of self-checkout lines, attendant lines (2), made-to-order kiosk (3), self serve coffee and drink stations, lottery machines, mobile pick-up, a small section of convenience items, pre-made food and pastries, as well as tobacco and alcohol. Compared to other locations, I felt this store was very small and offered a lot less than other Wawa's I have shopped at (it could be that we are located in a smaller area). My one complaint is the pre-made heated food was burnt, my husband could not finish eating his sausage croissant, we are understanding- it's first day and your still trying to adjust QC and the like. There is parking directly in front of the store and as well as on the left of the store (if facing it). There are several gas pumps for those needing fuel. Overall, it was a nice Wawa, I just wish the store itself was a little bigger and they had a wider selection of items. I'm still very happy that Wawa has come to down, I only wish I would have gotten there a little early to get some swag (the shirt). The goose was very friendly and engaging:)

The inside reminds me of a Chili's or Ruby Tuesday, but a bit darker. I think it's a nice atmosphere, appropriate for date night, a group, a family, etc. Our server (who has worked here for 3 years) was friendly and efficient. To start, we ordered a bowl of yesterday's soup special (She crab) and a small order of boiled shrimp. The soup was excellent, creamy, and with small pieces of crab throughout. The shrimp (six in the small order) were prepared well and came with a tangy cocktail sauce. The server brought over a loaf of their complimentary bread, which is actually three breads together in a single loaf. The bread was good (I preferred the dark loaf part) and came with a peach butter. We were told that the butters change periodically. The butter had pieces of peach in it (!) and we enjoyed the novelty. Our server mentioned that they also have a pistachio butter and maple butter. Yum. I ordered a salad with the balsamic vinaigrette dressing on the side. The salad itself was good - fresh, with crisp lettuce, tomato, cucumber, apple, almond pieces, etc. Then there was the dressing. Although I mixed the salad dressing in the cup before tasting it, when I did taste it, it was almost all oil with no discernible vinegar or other flavor. I kept stirring and tasting and nothing. So I abandoned the dressing. For entrees, my partner ordered the charbroiled salmon in herb butter with a side of broccoli. The salmon was prepared well and very tasty. I ordered the mahi-mahi, with the sun-dried tomato butter sauce on the side. The mahi-mahi was well prepared and tasty on its own. Honestly, I tasted the sun-dried tomato butter sauce and it was essentially whipped butter. I didn't think it added anything to the entree so I didn't use it. The potato came with butter and sour cream on the side. The potato was very good. Although we were full and not planning on dessert, the server came over with small cups of peppermint ice cream, calling it a "palate cleanser." It was very good and a nice touch. Other than the salad dressing and the sauce for the fish, it was an excellent meal in a nice atmosphere with good service. When we were leaving at around 7:00 pm, the line was out the door.
