Quaint little breakfast and lunch spot on Beverley with quiches, soups/salads, sandwiches. It's a small operation so quiche and soup options are limited and on a rotation. No soup available during my first visit or any quiches that called to me so went with a chicken and bacon panini. Devoured every bite but plan to explore more of the menu on my return. I really enjoyed this little gem right in the heart of mainstream downtown historic Staunton! It's much larger inside than it looks with a mural of the city on the back wall by the stairs that lead up to the bathrooms and a few more tables with seating. There are some patio chairs outside on the sidewalk for people watching and there are a good number of tables inside. We were greeted warmly and ordered the hummus plate and quiche platter with a side salad and fruit. The quiche was good but was a bit over cheesy for my taste - purely preference - and the side salad and fresh fruit hit the spot! I really enjoyed sitting outside people watching and snacking. Open every day but Sunday from 8-4pm. It's worth a stop! They had some cute local art for sale in the window as well. read more

At an event around the corner. Having missed breakfast, needed a fast mid-afternoon refill. Walked in off the street and ordered a tuna sub and slaw. Had a tasty Smoked Turkey/BLT sandwich, fresh fruit on the side, potato salad, and the price was right. The potato salad was good, creamy, but perhaps a bit too sweet. Service was not great, it seemed hasty and I felt a little rushed because of it. There's a wine-by-the-bottle selection against the wall, but the selection is mixed - I saw a lot of utter crrrap mixed with what looked to be a very fine Chateaunneuf-du-Pape, but the prices seemed pretty fair. This Cafe is a great place for lunch. Menu is varied and large. Food is high quality and they provide you with an above average quantity. Soup made daily and you have at least three choices. My wife had the Wrap Divan.....so good. I had the Mountain Laurel....just the best. I also had a cup of the broccoli cheddar soup...outstanding and a cup there equates to a bowl! Service very good. Well, I felt a little deceived by the restaurant's name. I would have named it the "Plain Palate" or "Tasteless Palate". I was expecting some local smoked bacon, aiolio's or chipotle sauces, and the hot sauce that was smeared on my wrap tasted like it came out of a can or jar. (Although my wrap said it had bacon on the menu, they forget to put it on). The chicken had no flavor. At home, I would have pampered my palate by seasoning the chicken in lemon, cumin, olive oil and garlic. Adding salt and pepper. It wouldn't take much to take this charming restaurant to four stars. If they would use fresh, local ingredients, and some snazzy new recipes, they would be able to honor their name. Nonetheless, the staff is so nice and greeted me with a smile and polite conversation. It would alone be worth it to stop by and meet this good-hearted people. The chocolate chip cookies are excellent. My palate was pampered while I chowed down on a few. This use to be a nice place to eat. My wife had a left a horrible review about service and upcharge and updated it. Today my wife wanted to give this place another shot . The owners asked to speak with my wife. My wife agreed to speak to them on the side and they cornered her and attacked her verbally. The statement that gets my blood boiling the most is that the male owner threatened my wife with " if you leave one more bad review things are going to get ugly" and then he stomps off and his wife brags he's a marine as to intimidate my wife. I' am a former U.S. Navy sailor and I am appalled not just by them cornering my wife but to brag about your husband being a Marine and that gives him the right to threaten people or the excuse to do as he pleases. That crosses a line end of story. The marines I proudly served with would never stoop so low to threatening someone because they left a bad review. To accuse my wife of the reason your losing business and then to blame her about you hemorrhaging money to run your small business is actually pathetic. Poor management and choices are what lead to money hemorrhages not someone leavening a bad review, and instead of making the choice to refuse my wife service they thought it was better to threaten and intimidate my wife to the point she was scared and in tears. Well she removed her review but I'm posting mine. I will never come here ever again I will be making sure my friends and family also never give them business as well. Since they like to intimidate and threaten women I like to try me on for size. read more

I met some friends in Staunton to catch up, do a little shopping and have lunch. We decided to give The Pampered Palate a try. I had the Pampered Potato and upgraded to making it a platter. This was a good move for 3.95 extra. The platter gets you a nice (lightly dressed) salad and fresh fruit. I think for $8.95 it is a deal based on the trendy location. I would also like to say I had the blackberry sweet tea. OMG it was refreshing. And just the perfect amount of sweet. Often I will order half and half tea. No need to do that here. The service was outstanding. Did I mention it was lunch time on a what was probably the first nice (weather) Saturday in a while? The place was jumping, but the staff didn't seem phased one bit. All the dinners seemed happy and the staff was relaxed. Most certainly will return here for lunch if I am in the area. read more

Wife and I were in Staunton for the day and she just HAD to get her nails done (haha, thank you random girl at our B&B for planting this idea in her head). We went to a salon called TEASE and it ended up taking so long that we nearly missed our show at the Blackfriar Theater. It was right around lunchtime though and we needed to eat before our show so the salon recommended calling Pampered Palate, which is a few doors down the street from the salon. I ended up just walking down and went in their take-out entrance. I ordered a Chef Salad and a Texas Wrap. They made my food on the spot in front of me and I walked it back down to the salon to eat with my wife. Both items were well made, and the Chef Salad was notable because they used "real" meat rather than cold cuts. My wife is pregnant so she wouldn't have been able to eat lunchmeat. Also, for serious, the Texas Wrap was delicioso as well. The other notable thing is that I asked the guy behind the counter if a salad and wrap would be big enough to split between two people. He replied by telling the girl next to him to make our salad bigger for no charge because it was getting split two ways. It's the little things like this that make a difference for me, and it helped that the food was great deli-style fare. Check out the Pampered Palate Cafe, and um, maybe go get your nails done too. We decided to try this restaurant in Staunton as their sandwich menu looked interesting. Indeed, the food was good. My chicken wrap was quite tasty and my husband reported that his gyro was OK. The service was good. The biggest problem here was how noisy this restaurant is. It's small and I guess we were there at lunch time but the noise was almost unbearable. You could not carry a normal conversation here. Looks like they had a brisk carry-out business so I think, that's the way to go if you eat here. read more

We had a lovely, affordable afternoon luncheon at the Pampered Palate Cafe today. I really enjoyed my quiche lorraine platter. The quiche was accented with some intriguing herbs (mild but enhanced the flavor), and presented with a side of salad, dressing, and fruit. Also included was a small slice of French bread with one of the most delicious whipped butters I have had in years. My companion enjoyed his BLT and pasta salad. We ordered 2 non-sweetened iced teas that were delicious and finished our meal with a piece of Limoncello cake with mascarpone filling that was light, tasty, and delectable. The servers were friendly, accommodating, and made us feel very welcome. We will be back! Upon leaving, we noticed they also served hard cider, yet another reason to return. I was a regular customer for years when I was a student at the local college. I knew the previous owners very well since I ate there so much. A few years ago some new people- a couple- bought the place. After several bad experiences with them, I didn't give them any of my business until recently. I put in a to-go order on Saturday. It was very busy, and it took a good five minutes or so to put my order in. I liked to get a Turkey Statler-add onions, mayo and mustard for dressing. I cannot recall any time prior where I was charged an extra .35 for onions and .50 for mustard. Everything was made correctly. Unfortunately, I found out recently that I'm lactose intolerant, and this sandwich has a lot of shredded cheese which I love but unfortunately can no longer have. I went back to the shop to ask if they did refills for to-go orders (which they don't. Fair.) And I told Chastity, the lady who often serves there, if it was possible to maybe swap out the cheese for more meat since I'm lactose intolerant (and they didn't have any dairy-free substitutes). She went back to ask the male owner, who I've had many bad experiences with, and she came back to say "He said no." He didn't even bother coming out to talk to me. There was no suggestion or solution offered to me. Just a no. I would have overlooked the new upcharges had it not been for this. It's not Chastity's fault. In fact, she apologized. Honestly, it's now clear to me that these owners have no intention of learning about customer-service and will do what they can to penny pinch the customer. This was the last straw. If you have a nice experience here, more power to you. I, however, will not be coming back. read more
