I just had the heartbreaking task of having my best little buddy get his well deserved eternal rest. Dr. Lopez was the kind, compassionate human being who soothed my soul in making this decision and gave my beloved 17+ yr old little doggie a gentle dignified end to his distress. Dr. Lopez explained the x-rays & bloodwork that could be done (at a substantial cost) but was gentle in letting us know that for a dog of this age & degree of heart issues this won't be a real fix. In fact, the stress of it all could prove too much on him. A lesser man would have put potential dollars compassion for animals & pushed a pet owner desperate to take her "baby" home towards that unnecessary route. I am so thankful a friend recommended Assisi to me last year when my little guy was ill. She was also the owner of 2 elderly dogs & couldn't speak highly enough about their care at Assisi. Last year we saw a female Dr., whose name escapes me & we were pleased with her thoroughness & care. Today though was the true test in kindness & professionalism. We were even given a beautiful remembrance of our sweet little boy in the form of a plaster imprint of his paws w a beautiful poem & a vial containing a bit of his fur. I suppose our parting was a long time coming. I called to refill a Trazodone prescription. Was told they'd call me back. They did, to ask a question, then said they'd call back again. I already knew this was gonna get fishy. Callbacks happened a couple times until finally they concluded that my dog needs a blood test to refill a Trazodone prescription. What? Since when? She didnt need one in the past. MONEY GRAB ALERT! Totally bogus information. Google it. Dogs dont require a blood test for a Trazodone prescription. Any time the visit was with Guzman, there was always "something we should consider". Take a sample of a bump and send to a lab. Do a full panel of blood test after she already had a clean bill of health (Oh but if you act now, we can get it for a cheaper price). Blood test to refill a prescription. Im sure he has an exclusive contract with the lab and is committed to filling quotas. That's how they work. Additionally, my neighbors had a sick cat last year. They asked me if I knew of a vet. I sent them to Assissi. Neighbors were told the cat needed to stay the night. Next morning, neighbors called to setup picking up the cat. Cat died. Initially was told the cat choked on his own vomit. Neighbors asked why didnt anyone help? They were told that no one stays there overnight. What? Then why did the cat need to stay the night? To make matters worse, they were handed a massive bill...all to have them kill my neighbors cat...from their first visit to Assissi through my recommendation. I was turned off from that story and was thinking of leaving then. Well after this Trazodone BS, we're confirmed to part. I can toss a stone in any direction and hit a vet, there are so many. Money grab tactics will lose in the end. Nothing bad to say about the front desk or the technicians. They were always awesome. Just stay away from their boss. Money grab! read more

7/26/26 4 pm Hunter was brought in with Drooling , Lethargic , and Discharge from his Butt. bloodwork was done They found nothing wrong. Doctor on duty said he probably has a stomach bug and they gave me antibiotics probiotics and moist food and sent us on our way after 1,000 bill. 11 o'clock that night. He had collapse and I had to bring him to VEG in Carleplace . gave him IVs bloodwork and x-rays. He was severely dehydrated and he had a blockage. They wanted to do surgery, but his heart rate was too low and they wanted to get it higher before they did by 2 PM the next day they wanted to do surgery, but he had passed away due to being septic.. doctors at VEG and VREC Said that x-rays should've been done at 4 PM at Assisi vet veterinary Hospital . This is gross negligence on their part and they failed to do what they were supposed to do as a care giver . The doctor on call was more concerned with getting out of there by 5 o'clock and then getting my puppy of 22 months old the care that he needed . No guarantee that he would've survived surgery if we found the blockage at 4 PM because that's surgery. But he would've not been 24 hours septic with himself declining every hour that was critic.. I'm completely disgusted with this hospital. Their lack of compassion, any follow up phone calls is not existent and I've been a 20 year with patient with them. . A -1000 review to them . read more

I took my 6 year old English bulldog, Peaches, for an enema due to constipation on 1/15/26. She had one in August 2025 but needed another again. My husband dropped her off at 8:30AM, I get a text saying she is recovering around 2PM. 15 mins later my husband calls me frantically saying they are doing CPR on Peaches. I'm confused now since I recieved a text saying shes recovering. I call the vet and the receptionist also says they are doing CPR. I ask to speak to the vet, and the vet asks if I would like her to continue CPR. She informed me that have been doing CPR for 25 mins, at this point I realize Peaches is dead and I tell them to stop CPR. I asked why this happened, the vet responds with because shes a brachycephalic dog. My husband works only two blocks from me so we both leave work and head to the vet together. I'm crying my eyes out because Peaches was my first child, my husband is distraught but has to keep it together since we are driving. Peaches had no other health issues besides constipation, she should not have died. We get to the vet, the receptionist says sorry for your loss and points us to a room where they had Peaches body. The vet does not come to us at any point to say she is sorry or to go over the events as to what lead to Peaches untimely death. I shouldn't have lost my little girl. She went in for a simple procedure. This practice has no compassion and its all a money making business. See the attached photos to this review, the text message saying she is recovering (clearly she never recovered so it was misleading), the bill (for the enema which I have no idea if they did and the charge for CPR), and a picture of Peaches. I purchased her from a reputable breeder specifically so that she would not have any breathing issues. So in short, if you plan to take your pet there for a procedure that requires anesthesia, think again. You may leave with a dead body instead. read more

My dog Muffin was scheduled to be cremated today July 7th after suffering for days and after having 11 seizures the office contacted me 1 hour before her scheduled procedure to tell us they will no longer be able to perform her euthanization. After spending all these hours watching our family member suffer, this was what they told me. They were extremely insensitive to my family needs and to have her suffer waiting is inhumane. We've supported this vet for many years, and whoever is responsible for scheduling and counting inventory should be repremanded. I do not recommend this vet, and I am disappointed in their care and concern for my pet on her last day. read more

Staff does not care about the animals that's come in. They gave my dog back when he couldn't walk and was shaking uncontrollabl and said he was fine. He had no use of his back legs. Well it's been a while since I wrote a review because frankly I haven't been many places lately. One of the places that cannot wait regardless of the times is the vet. Since my wife and I rescued a 5-week-old kitten off the streets 6 months ago, we've been taking him (Oliver) to the vet for his shots, boosters, neutering and one injury that turned out very minor. We're grateful Assisi is nearby because just like the saint this place is named after, the staff here are saints who truly LOVE animals! Every visit, the vet techs, doctors and even staff at the front have made Oliver feel right at home. Appointments usually begin with some playtime to make your pet feel comfortable with the technicians. Oliver has gotten along with them handsomely and doesn't fear trips here. Our average wait with an appointment (and our one emergency) is about 10-15 minutes, but that's because of the personal care and attention they afford each pet. Prices are not on the cheap side but not on the expensive side either, running about $100-$150 for our kitten for routine visits and of course a bit more for surgery and other advanced procedures. Either way, we feel the price is worth taking him here. We always feel like he's cared for. I should add that the staff is incredibly friendly to each pet's human, too! We are always treated with the utmost respect and service. Assisi staff knows that these pets are an extension of our family, and they certainly treat them like family, too! Staff here is nothing but accommodating. I adopted a dog in December and brought him here since Assisi is so much closer to my home than my previous veterinary hospital. Due to covid restrictions, they usually take your fur baby outside. Parking around the area isn't great because it's a busy road but they do have space in their tiny driveway (if you're lucky). Dr Jacoby was super awesome at the initial intake and really answered all the questions I had about my new rescue. Would recommend, they are super nice people. read more

Dr. Lopez is unbelievable. All my years having pets, this is by far the best care I've ever received. Our pup was told he may have to be euthanized due to severe pancreatitis and diabetes. He was dehydrated, lifeless and on deaths door. Thank you Dr. Lopez and your staff. Also very affordable. The first vet who didn't try to take all your money with unnecessary testing. I have a 14 year old, large, female domestic shorthair calico cat, "Nala." She is the last animal I owed with, my late wife, "Leslie Hyams" who died, suddenly, on 30 August 2013. If you've ever lost anyone, close to you, and who hasn't; you can well imagine the significance of my "Nala." She's been having some kidney stone issues that threw me into a panic. After several trips to 2 different veterinary hospitals, all pushing for unnecessary surgery, I settled on a conservative, dietary treatment option and I'm glad I did. However, finding a decent, non-emergency, maintenance, veterinary facility has been a challenge. I am extremely pleased to report, thanks to the advise of a good friend, "Christian Nahas;" I found just what my "Nala" needed in "Assisi Animal hospital." The staff is warm, cordial, understanding and very accommodating. In this time of "Covid," which makes being in attendance with your animal a nigh-impossibility; "Assisis' staff" tries to make this situation palatable as possible. If you live in the "Long Beach, South Shore Area" and want a competent, caring, full service veterinary facility for your family member; "Assisi Animal Hospital" is definitely a solid option. A little side note; I adopted "Nala," in 2009, from "Saint Francis Animal" Hospital, in "Oakdale, NY;" several hours away from "Long Beach." "Saint Francis," the patron saint of animals, is my favorite saint as is his prayer, "The Peace Prayer of St Francis of Assisi." I found it extraordinary that I was ultimately directed to another hospital also named after this absolutely beautiful human being. I'd like to thank Dr Guzman and his staff for accommodating Kobe in his final days. I appreciate his honesty and hospitality.

The last time I went to this vet was in February. They are very punctual with appointment times. You may have to wait a few minutes if at all but they do try their best to see you at your scheduled time. They have free items such as scoops/measuring cups for pet food which is very considerate. The staff is professional and kind. The doctors are honest and practice with integrity. My last visit was for my elderly sick fur baby, Gilbert. He was in rough shape. I would've paid whatever they told me to keep him earth-side. The vet plainly asked me what my goal was for Gilbert. I told him I wanted Gilbert to be better and he explained that Gilbert was very sick, in a lot of pain, probably wouldn't live too much longer and the official plan of action would be to keep Gilbert comfortable because nothing could be done to cure him. My husband and I decided to aid Gilbert on his journey over the rainbow bridge. The staff apologized and all appeared very sad for us. A few days later we received a condolence card to our home signed by the office staff. It was such a nice gesture .. it brought tears to my eyes all over again. read more

We always feel good taking him here for well visits and emergencies or even dropping him off for boarding when we go away. My pekatese had a terrible cough and was making horrible wretching noises . i was afraid she had swallowed some chicken bones. The vets I called near me wanted to give me an appointment late in the day. I could see my dog was in distress although not in extreme danger. I gave Assisi vets a call and the receptionist expressed sincere concern and told me to bring her right over . I WAS SO RELIEVED! The vet tech and then Dr. Tim examined her gently and taking an X-ray as a precaution diagnosed her tentatively with kennel cough. I will use these vets as my dog's health provider from now on. They were professional but also caring. I got lost on the way over and the receptionist was kind and said she looked forward to seeing me which allayed any embarrassment I might have felt. As our previous Vet (Hilton Animal Hospital) has become little more than a well visit and vaccine assembly line we were pleased to find Assisi. As a 7 day a week Vet where they don't refer out everything that might decrease their cost per visit average they tackle many issues Hilton used to do but no longer deem part of their business plan. Dr. Guzman recently took out a lower canine tooth and several others. Our dog Dexter was back to his usual self after less than a day. As it is our first time @ Assisi we will definitely be back. A word to the wise. Ask questions of your current vet..what happens if this or that. If your current Vet has no hours on Sunday, or refers out anything challenging look elsewhere. Vetcor a corporation that owns many Vet Hospitals took over Hilton Hospitals for Animals and over the course of several years turned it into little more than a well visit and vaccine clinic. This is my favorite vet clinic on Long Island -- been living here for 12 years and been to several clinics. I prefer to have to drive the half hour route to them than take the 5 to 20 minute drive to nearby places. All staff is caring and welcoming, starting with the front desk. The doctors have always been excellent. On my last visit, it was with Dr. Guzman whom we had not met yet. Fantastic doctor. I'm sorry I don't remember the name of the vet assistant, she was so loving and gentle with this sickly little feral guy we plucked out of the cold and are trying to save. Thank you all! The only suggestion I'd give them, besides becoming vegan and extending their compassion to all animals and not only pets, is to have flyers and posters educating people about animal tested products. They apply horrific and unnecessary testing on poor little souls that humans can overpower so easily. So unfair and cruel! read more

Amazing vet spot! I have an exotic pet which are usually pricey visits for no reason. I was nervous about my bearded dragons first visit but soon my anxiety was soothed. My bearded dragon is always seen same day, if not next day at the LATEST. This vet spot does NOT overprice. Let me tell you, when it comes to Xrays and parasite tests it can be pricey. Dr Guzman seems very concious of a pet owners budget. I appreciate the efforts to keep unecessary spending limited. This is competent and HONEST veterinary care. This is by far the best vet hospital around. Dr Guzman is very knowledgeable. Dr Chem is also excellent. They have cared for my 2 dogs for over 4 years through some vry difficult times. My 6 year old Shar Pei mix Gracie has been a patient here since she was a puppy. Unfortunately she is a regular patient as she always seems to have something. The staff & all the veterinarians are fantastic. A little over a year ago she came down with Shar Pei fever. The doctors thoroughly researched the proper treatments and taught me how to treat her, even at home. Gracie has had many surgeries here as well & things always went well. My first dealings with this hospital were under sad conditions. My cat of 10 years wasn't doing well. Unfortunately I had no choice but to have her put to sleep. I was lucky enough to see Dr England who, in my opinion, is the most caring and compassionate vet I have EVER dealt with before! He made the saddest moment so peaceful for my cat....and for me. Our boy Jake is recovering from TPLO surgery that was performed at Assisi. There aren't enough positive words to describe the expert care that he received at Assisi. The operation was successful and I am pleasantly surprised at how well Jake is handling the recovery. Dr. Guzman explained everything in detail and made sure all our questions were addressed and answered. And his devotion to his patients is amazing and gratefully appreciated. The vets, the staff behind the desk and the vet techs are all top notch. We have been taking our pets to Assisi since 2008 and can't imagine ever going anywhere else. They are the best! read more

We had a negative experience at Assisi Vet. My dog came in as an emergency and needed stitches in his side. After under going sedation and an almost thousand dollar bill we went home. When returning after two weeks to get the stitches removed we come to find the stitches didn't take. Now we have to care for an open wound. Our other option was to try stitches again and sedation of a year old puppy. We were charged for the cream to take care of it and more antibiotics. I called to speak to Dr Guzman and he really wasn't sure what happened and said he would have another vet get back to me. A vet did call me back but again had no definitive reason. I went back this past Saturday and was again charged for more cream. I asked that Dr Guzman call me and still have yet to hear back. Very upsetting our pup needs to go through all this. read more
