Destiny is the absolute best, and for any guys thinking about sugaring- do it. I've always hated trying to shave the ol twig & berries. Clippers are terrifying, I'm trash with the razor (I don't care how many blades there are on the Gillette 9000x-2) and I would just end up letting it run wild until I couldn't stand it anymore. Everyone I have encountered so far here has been super friendly, professional, and welcoming. I'm normally in and out of here within 10 MINUTES! I've never done sugaring before, only waxing, but all the clear info and pros of sugaring vs. waxing, and pretty decent deals, decided to give it a try. At Sugar Plum everyone has 100+ hours of training and then re-training, the sugar itself is all organic and sourced locally from Theo Chocolate; completely edible even! (Before not after lol) So it's pretty much a thick caramel that sticks to the hair not the skin like wax, and not hot so there's no chance of your skin being burned. I tried a Brazilian with Roq who was so friendly, super informative on before/after care, and made the session not awkward at all. Usually a Brazilian is $75 but as a first time guest it was $45, you get a free touch up the following week, and if you check into Yelp, a free serum you can use 48 hours after your session. This was huge for me because I was really looking for places that specialize in only hair removal that wouldn't break the bank. Like waxing, it does hurt in some places but it's quick! My first experience with sugar waxing was kind of miserable so I almost didn't give it another try, but I'm so glad I did! Sugar Plum is one of those businesses that makes you feel welcome and well taken care of, and I highly recommend this studio to anyone looking to try sugar waxing. Like I said, my first experience, which was a Brazilian wax, was ROUGH. (The woman who originally did it was fired so thankfully no one else will have to endure what I did.) However, I wanted to upkeep my lady bits since it was summer and I booked the follow up appointment with Chandler. That experience was SO much better than the first, I couldn't believe it! Not gonna lie, it still hurts and definitely DO NOT get an intimate wax if you're on your period, but overall it wasn't too bad. Chandler does a great job of being quick and efficient, while keeping the pain down to a minimum. She makes you feel super comfortable right off the bat, and it feels more like catching up with a friend than getting a wax. I was initially really worried that getting an intimate wax was gonna be way too awkward but Chandler does a great job of being professional and friendly. This was my first time sugaring and will definitely not be my last! Such an amazing experience. I came in to see CJ, and she was so friendly and took my mind off the minor pain. Sugaring definitely hurts a lot less than waxing, so it's definitely recommended for people with sensitive skin. The mixture is literarily just sugar, water, and citric acid. I got my full arms done and while it took 45 minutes, it went by in a breeze. I got the VIP pricing since it was my first time in, and you can get the same price if you come in again within 6 weeks of your last session. I'm updating my 2-star review to a 1-star and I will never be returning to this location for good reasons: (1) Technicians I've seen were inadequate as they damaged my skin/ left a scar/ did NOT fully remove my hair (2) The owner of this location blames the possible cause of (1) on my hair type - the truth is, I have normal skin and hair with nothing particularly stands out (3)I'm being treated (a Ballard local who's been a customer at her shop for half a year) like I'm the only one complaining and making a big deal. (4)had absolutely no problem at Downtown Sugar Plum and at a different salon (Waxing the City), but at Ballard location. After I left my first review, the owner messaged me and gave a recommendation as to whom to see the next time of my visit. After seeing 3 sugarists, she recommended Kerilynn who used to be at Downtown location and now at Ballard. So I decided to give it a last try and booked with Kerilynn. She was great and charming, but in terms of service it was disappointing. She left out my short hairs (no tweezing or plucking). I was also told at my arrival that she's unsure how long she could do my service because I was in 2 minutes late. Frankly this wasn't my first time that Ballard technicians seemed to be in hurry. Even when I arrived on time or came in 5 minutes earlier, the service was always significantly shorter than the appointment time, which is usually a 15-minute session. I could care less about the appointment time (the shorter the better, it's all about saving time for both parties right?) But when my hairs are left out, I start to wonder why I would pay $ to come get my hair removal done by "technicians who's gone through 100 hours of additional training." Think about it. I always tipped and never made a fuss at the shop. On Sugar Plum's website, it's mentioned that they care about how customer's skin is responding. And they list out a contraindication - but what happens when I abide by all that but still found a trouble? The visible scar left on my right underarm, which had never happened to me before, is something that I now need to seek dermatologist's advice. I've wanted to use Ballard location for my regular hair removal, since it's close to my living area. I use both waxing and sugaring for different parts of my body and Sugar Plum Ballard has been one of two places (along Waxing the City) that I've set to be the regular. Not anymore. I would not recommend this place to my friends. read more

I would highly recommend Sugar Plum for any hair removal service, I've been coming for several years inconsistently. They're professional, clean and I'm always pleased with their services. However, I think the 'real star of the show' is Kim, one of their sugaring technicians. I can't say enough good things about her and she's the the reason I know come to Sugar Plum on a consistent basis and not just for 'special occasions'. I'm never going back here. They're nearly impossible to get ahold of via telephone. I had an appointment scheduled and called a few days ahead to say I wouldn't be able to make it. I left a voicemail because I couldn't get through to a live person despite calling a few times. I left my full name and phone number on the message and informed them that I needed to cancel, specifying the date and time of my scheduled appointment. The day my appointment was scheduled, they left me a voicemail saying that I was a no-show and essentially that this was my only "warning" before being charged. Ummm what? You make it impossible to get through on the phone and then treat me that way over *your* mistake when you either weren't checking messages or were just ignoring them? No thanks. Customer service matters and while the technicians are great, the customer approach leaves much to be desired. read more

I always get nervous and awkward about things like hair removal, but Katie was so friendly and patient and nonjudgmental, and was careful to explain everything she was doing and answer all my questions. Sugaring, in my opinion, is about the same discomfort level of wax in terms of the yanking, but more pleasant because it's not burning hot! Vanessa did my Brazilian and it was a wonderful experience. It was my first time and I was a bit nervous, so she gave me a cold jade stone to fidget with. She balanced being quick with providing pain breaks, but honestly it wasn't that painful at all! She gave me a hot towel to clean up any sticky residue after and calm the skin. It is three weeks later and my hair is just starting to come back in a bit. No ingrowns, red bumps, or itchiness at all. And the student discount and returning within 6 weeks discount (both 30% I think?) are features I plan to take advantage of in the future! read more

Just moved to Seattle and came on a referral from a friend who lives here already. I have been getting sugared for a year or so now and and was nervous having to find a new place and person to be comfortable with. I experienced excellent customer service from start to finish. All of the girls were extremely friendly at the front desk and I had Chandler provide my services and she was awesome. After being sugared several times before it almost felt less painful when I came here. My skin was smooth after and a week later today still the same!
