When they used to taste good
Salma C.

Not what they used to be anymore. My family used to buy cakes from them for every birthday event. They used to taste good, but now, it feels like they're overpriced due to their past awards and the cake tastes as if it's out of a cake box you get at the grocery store. I don't like their icing options since they're all buttercream varieties really (very heavy) and not as much flavor options to mix and match with. Cakes are too rich and heavy. The fillings are their best part, but it isn't worth the icing and cake part. There's better bakeries that make tastier cakes at lower costs. Their cakes may look pretty, but looks can be deceiving.

Sugar Bakers made our wedding cake and groom's cake for our wedding on 9/7/19 in Harford County. I am so pleased with them and we had no cake left over because people went for seconds and thirds!! I thought we would have to spend an arm and a leg, but Sugar Bakers is so resonably priced! They told us not to freeze our top tier because they will provide us with a top tier at our 1 year anniversary for free! All cake toppers were from Etsy, but I told Sugar Bakers my vision and my husband's and they did not disappoint! Everyone at the shop was extremely helpful and the cake tasting was wonderful! The cakes were delivered perfectly and I only had to put the topper on. I cannot recommend them enough!!!

SugarBakers made our wedding cake and I am not the only one obsessed with it... our guests are still raving about it! We held our reception at Hunt Valley Country Club in September and were informed that the venue and SugarBakers have a partnership so we had the option to order the cake through them. We were thrilled to hear this because we knew that SugarBakers was one of the few bakeries in the DMV that can make a Smith Island flavored cake. The cake itself was so appealing to look at and I still can't get over how delicious it was. We did a three tiered cake with Smith Island flavor on the bottom and top tier, and red velvet in the middle. I highly recommend SugarBakers for your wedding or any event!

Literally the most delicious cake that I've ever eaten. My family loved the food but, everyone was talking about how great the cake was. We did yellow cake with buttercream icing and cannoli filling. If you need a show stopping wedding cake, this is where you need to get it. By the way, they bake you an anniversary cake for free.

Although this was a while ago, I wanted to place a review on this place. I got my wedding cake from SugarBakers back in 2017 (the picture is just the top portion, I will find one of the whole cake later). The cake was an Amaretto cake with Raspberry filling and a French buttercream and it was the highlight of our wedding. The taste is unforgettable, buttery, sweet, and subtle. The decorations were beautiful, and the service at the bakery was excellent. Sugar bakers made a pretty cake for approximately 75 people and also two sheets of the cake for the guests; they were accommodating in this request and it brought down the price of the cake. The cake was beautiful and I highly recommend this place to anyone considering a wedding cake from here.

Sugar bakers made my wedding cake and it was a total hit! The staff is so friendly. We did cake tastings at 3 bakeries and Sugar Bakers won in every aspect. They started promptly. They give small slices of all their cake flavors and samples of each of the buttercreams along with several fillers. It was organized so cute on the platter. It might be the moistest and most flavorful cake I've ever eaten! They let you pick a different flavor for each layer if you want also. We hardly had any cake left over at the wedding. It was so good several people wanted extra slices. The best part is you don't have to even think about eating gross, year old cake from the freezer on your 1 year anniversary. When you buy a cake from them they bake you a fresh top layer in the flavor of your choice. Just call 2 weeks before your anniversary date. Their other desserts look delicious too. I can't wait until the stay at home order is up so I can get our anniversary cake and I'm sure I'm going to pick up a few other desserts to try also.

We chose SugarBakers for our wedding cake and we are so happy we did! Our cake consisted of the strawberry mousse and the chocolate toffee mousse topped with the German butter cream icing! We fed each other our first bites and we both looked at each other and immediately said "This cake is really good"! We even had a few of our guests rave about our wedding cake, some managed to even snag a second piece! I wish we were that lucky! Unfortunately, we only managed to have the one bite of our cake after cutting it. We ended up being so busy that we never got the chance to sit down and eat a slice of our cake. Luckily, SugarBakers provides couples with a 6 inch 1st Anniversary Cake at no additional cost (using the same flavor and icing from our wedding cake). We also didn't have to worry about saving and freezing the top tier of our cake. We can't wait to pick ours up in a couple weeks and REALLY enjoy it!

This is a nice dessert shop located in Frederick road. It's right in between the fire station and where friendley's used to be if you're familiar with Frederick road. I usually come here for the dessert bars. My favorite here is definitely the brookie which is a combination of a brownie and cookie. It tastes amazing and definitely will satisfy your sugar craving if you have any. I've also had the peanut butter bar, cherry cheesecake bar, and pecan pie bar. Only one I wasn't a fan of was the peanut butter bar. Didn't taste as peanut buttery as I expected. The cheesecake as pecan pie bars were good. Oh and I believe all the bars are $2 each. They also have other desserts like cupcakes, cannolis, cake slices and full cakes. The only cake I've had here was the pumpkin cheesecake they have during thanksgiving which was really good. I would rate that a 4/5 as well. Probably my favorite dessert place in catonsville. You should definitely give this place a chance.

The snickerdoodle cake was excellent! Very moist and tasted just like carrot cake but without the carrots. My order was accommodated 3 days before I picked it up which was very nice of the employees since you have to call 7 days in advance to get an order made. I ordered it for my nephews birthday. Parking wasn't too bad. I parked in a lot right across the street from the store. The lot was free so I had no troubles. There's also street parking but it's very minimal. I highly recommend this bakery if you live in Baltimore or Howard County. My nephew lives in Baltimore County so it was easy to order the cake and drop it it off to him for his birthday.

It's buttery yellow instead of WHITE :(

The unfortunate experience with this vendor started from the testing tray. They mixed up the labels on the frosting on the testing tray. We requested WHITE wedding cake. They confirmed it will be white, yet they delivered a yellow cake. Vendor acknowledged mistake after wedding and refunded a portion of the cost.

Rich Red cake vs subdued red-orangey cake
Javon B.

Sugar Bakers has been my "go-to" bakery since moving to Baltimore from California in 2013. For my very first Adult Birthday party; I wanted to go all in and over the top! Red is my absolute favorite color and I fell in love with the cake on the LEFT when I saw it on Pinterest. I asked Sugar Baker's Cakes to mimic the cake but to just do it with 2 tiers. I picked up the cake on the day of my party and my heart was crushed when I saw the reddish-orange fondant with the gold embellishments. I told the manager that this looks NOTHING like the red I requested and she insisted on trying to convince me that it was. Hurt and completely upset, I did everything to keep my composure and articulate that I was completely disappointed and did not like the subdued red. I wanted a rich RED like the photo. You can clearly see the richness of the red as there is no contrast between the red roses. The manager kept insisting it WAS THE SAME RED and said "I'm sorry you're not happy but your remaining balance is...". It was only after I kept insisting that it was NOT the same RED that the manager finally admitted that it was the best they could do. That would've been an appropriate answer instead of initially trying to convince me that it was the "same red". When they realized they were unable to get the color to match the Rich Red as depicted in the photo, they should've called me to let me know. But no, they proceeded and tried to make me feel like I was in the wrong for being disappointed with the final product. Again, the manager reminded me of my remaining balance and offered nothing to mitigate the problem other than saying "I'm sorry you're not happy with the cake". Paying $400+ for a cake that you're NOT satisfied with is just unacceptable. Shame on Sugar Bakers! I paid the balance, got my cake, and left. Albeit, ill never ever do business with this establishment again. I will NEVER EVER purchase another cake from Sugar Bakers. My party was still amazing but it wasn't perfect because the highlight of the party; my cake, did NOT turn out as I desired. #NeverEverAgain

**Charlsie's Bakehouse - Catonsville, MD**…read more So curiosity got the best of me this morning and I popped into the new bake shop in downtown Catonsville--**Charlsie's Bakehouse**. Let me just say: this place is *cool.* Like, 1950s corner-bakery-in-Baltimore cool. From the moment you step inside, you feel like you've time-traveled into something special. I wasn't sure what to expect, but was pumped to see breakfast sandwiches on the menu. I went with the **"Do You Kiss Your Mother With That Mouth"** ($7.50), and without exaggeration--it was **BY FAR** the best breakfast sandwich I've ever had. The biscuit? Light and flaky. The sausage? Grilled to perfection. The egg? Right at that sweet spot--done but still runny. Absolute harmony. And if the sandwich was *that* good, you better believe I'll be back for dessert. The key lime pie, hand pies, and donuts all looked dangerous in the best way. They've got seating for 20-25 inside and even Wi-Fi if you need to hang a while. Welcome to Catonsville, **Charlsie's Bakehouse**--you're already a favorite. Eat well, my friends. #wheresaaroneating #CharlsiesBakehouse #CatonsvilleEats #BestBreakfastEver

We enjoyed most everything, but I will say what dropped this a star was the fact that I was so excited for the biscuit and jam, and unfortunately it tasted burnt. It wasn't visibly burnt so I didn't say anything, but the taste was just off. If I find myself back there I won't be going for that - but will seek out some other treats for sure!

I love the breadery! I've been eating their bread for years from various restaurants throughout…read moretown, but had never actually been to the breadery location until this week. I was immediately impressed and overwhelmed with the shear amount of options in their establishment. They not only have bread and pastries, but they also have coffee, frozen pizzas, wine and spirits, local cheeses, and a large selection of olive oils, vinegars, and balsamics. I picked up a challah bread, baguette, lemon rosemary sourdough, pumpkin chocolate muffin, two mini blueberry scones, a 4 pack of a locally owned, women owned canned cocktail I like, and a cup of coffee all for about $30. I will definitely be back!

Wanted to take a nice walk about two weeks ago (lagging on reviews again, sigh) and found the #9…read moreTrolley Line that runs from Ellicott City to Catonsville (or vice versa, more on this). Approximately halfway from either town is this delightful bakery that isn't just a bakery. As many have said, the aroma alone can make your mouth water - and we arrived midday, so I can only imagine what it's like early in the morning, when the baked goods are just coming out of the oven. They close at 2 on Saturdays, and we just made it by 1:30. Along with breads, rolls, and cookies, there are spreads both sweet and savory, dipping oils and vinegars, plus herb mixtures to sprinkle on them. I didn't investigate the wines but could easily see it's quite a collection. I missed the cheeses somehow, but DD the Cheese Queen said it was a nice assortment. There is also a cooler with soft drinks, so DGD got a berry lemonade & DD a kombucha. I bought a fresh loaf of garlic parmesan bread, and a loaf of cranberry orange pecan bread that was only $4! I see that another reviewer said the cheap loaves are due to the slicer mangling the loaf, but not the one I bought! It was perfect & just a couple of days old. Used to be you could go to most local bakeries & buy day old bread much cheaper. Anyway, even if it was "mangled" it still has amazing flavor and texture - worth every penny even at full price. DGD got a chocolate croissant and a banana muffin. She graciously let me have a taste and both were delicious. There is a free parking lot, which we didn't use of course, as we were walking. I wanted to write about the #9 Trolley Line but yelp doesn't have trail reviews (oversight!!) So I'm just going to add a little info here that does not pertain to The Breadery. Here are a couple of tips if you're doing the #9 Trolley Line walk: First and foremost, I highly recommend doing the uphill part first. In other words, start in Ellicott City. We walked as far as The Breadery and back, which was around 1.5 miles. We were all thankful to be going downhill once we were carrying our goodies! However, there is a farmer's market on Saturdays from May-October and it's a very small downtown so parking is tricky. The lot for the trailhead had people circling for spots. We're going to do the other side next weekend, but starting at The Breadery & returning there. And to be perfectly honest, even though it's a bit of a drive, I will be coming to get fresh loaves at The Breadery a couple of times a month.
