How would you feel if you had to carry over a 100lbs up a 4 mile trail with a 1000 foot hill to climb with no shoes not being feed but a snack of two flakes of hay a day. This is what is being supported when you rent a horse for a hour trail ride. these pictures was taken by an employee still working there two days ago. I left last season due to the fact the Manager was telling us to cut the feed and hay cause the owner didn't have the money to buy hay and was behind on the hay bill of over 10,000 dollars. These horses are so much worse off then last year and the 2025 season has just started.

I had a GREAT experience riding a horse my first time at Sugarlands Riding Stable. The horse assigned to me was Squirrel (I think his original name was Coby?) and he was funny. Reminded me of my dog, both are similar in that they're like on a mission to go somewhere, my horse kept trotting so fast and often got really close to the guide's horse. I learned how to brake. I loved the whole ride, the trail was beautiful, and I felt safe. The guide was Josh riding Oreo, a funny horse as well because he would keep testing Josh. I had a tough time understanding Josh at first when he instructed me what to grab onto and how to hold the leash (?), but after a while, I understood and was able to relax a bit and not be so tensed on how to handle riding a horse. May from the front desk counter was really nice, she explained everything thoroughly and had a calming soothing voice. She also showed us our pictures from the horse ride. We decided to purchase two prints and receive pictures through airdrop, total came out to around $20. My only feedback for the prints are that the prints came out dark, so I'm glad I got the digital pictures. The horse ride for 1 hour per person was $40.

This was a very professional outfit. Minimum age to ride was 5 years old and Maximum weight was 220 lbs. all adults have to be weighed before purchasing tickets. Our guide Dakota and the rest of the staff were very reassuring. We had such a quiet ride...I didn't know my kids could be that quiet but we were all focused on staying balanced on our horses. The horses were so gentle and didn't give us any cause for concern. I would highly recommend this place for first-timers on a horse!

This place is still open!! Just under new management. We had the BEST time on our one hour ride. Our guide Jacob was super knowledgeable about the land and the horses. This is a MUST do if you are in the smoky mountains. Didn't see any bears, but bear season isn't in full swing yet! So much fun! Would come again

Sugarlands Riding Stables switched ownership in 2023 and now they are open 7 days a week, including holidays. Every time I've passed through Gatlinburg for the last 3 years, I make sure to go riding here. In the summer, the views were obscured by the vegetation, but that didn't stop me. There are some spots where you can see Gatlinburg and mountaintops. Once I got to see a bear. My guide, Lesley, was great at pointing out scenic points and telling us about the area. I can't wait to go back!

We loved our experience at Sugarlands Riding Stable! We went during off season in September, the prices were comparable to what we would expect, but the employees made the experience absolutely wonderful. We were weighed and asked our experience level (none) and matched with a horse that had wonderful temperaments. The employees love and care so well for their animals, they were kind and informative, giving instructions clearly and answering all of our questions. Our guide, Jenny, was amazing. She let us enjoy the scenery in silence, but also coached us along the trail when we needed, took pictures of us that she later airdropped, told stories and pointed out places of interest as we went along. We absolutely loved it and cannot recommend it enough!

My wife and I have been together for 24 years. In that time we've gone horseback riding 3 times,…read moretwo of which have been here in Pigeon Forge. Our most recent excursion @ Goldrush Stables and the other @ Big Rock Dude Ranch. Naturally, I can't help making comparisons between the two. Simply put, after this experience we've come to the conclusion we really don't like riding horses, even though we love them! It's just not for us, but we are so glad for all the opportunities. . [ THE RIDE ] We arrived 15 minutes early as requested by the stables to sign waivers and prep for the ride. Our trail guides were saddling several horses as we watched from outside the fence. Once ready, we were summoned to the mounting platform, which makes it much easier for beginners like us. Because COVID-19 has given me a little extra girth, I was given one of the larger horses named Blondie, while my wife rode Fanny. It was Blondie's first ride in weeks (they tend to rest their horses for long periods), so she proved to be rather eager on the trail. Fanny, as my wife soon discovered, doesn't like to get her feet wet. Once all the riders were mounted & instructed, we walked across a wooden bridge to a field and began our ride. Normally the ride would begin by walking the horses through the creek, but rain from the night before had water levels up, so we bypassed it via the bridge. We also bypassed another creek walk further down the trail, which was disappointing since it was one of the main reasons we chose this stable over Big Rock. It was one of the best selling points. We then arrived at a smaller, more narrow creek crossing that both Blondie and Fanny decided to jump, startling both me & my wife. Immediately after the creek the terrain goes uphill, which my horse decided to run. She headed straight into some low-lying branches, almost knocking me off. Her eagerness caused her to not listen very well when pulling back on her reigns and my inexperience handling her didn't help. My wife's horse ran her knee into a tree just after jumping the small creek, so clearly we were having a few issues! LOL Our guides yelled out after my wife's accident "steer your horses", but even after 3-minutes of instruction it's hard to do that properly when the horse seems to have other plans. At this point the trail follows a path into the woods and up and down a fairly good-sized hill. On a dry day I think this would have been a very pleasant ride, but because the trail was muddy, my particular horse kept sliding... BADLY, like something you'd see in a cartoon! It was very nerve racking and made it difficult to relax and enjoy the experience. In truth, I felt sorry for my horse. She was seriously soaked in sweat by mid ride and seemed to walk under every low branch along the way! I believe she was intentionally trying to get me off her back, fo'realz... hahaha! Poor thing. My wife remained frazzled most of the ride as she wrestled with her own fears of not feeling in control. At midpoint the trail loops back into itself and we follow the same path back to the beginning. . [ THE VERDICT ] We learned something about ourselves that I suppose we've always known. Some of the experiences we've had were greatly enhanced because of the joy we felt showing our children how to live life. We did so many things in the name of giving them great memories and now we must reprogram to pursue our own like as a couple, not just as parents. We thought we would enjoy the more open fields & smaller slopes @ Goldrush versus the mountainous trail @ Big Rock, and probably would have if not for the muddy conditions. That being said, the ride time was far shorter and there is little else to do here. Overall we felt like Big Rock was the better value. So why 4 stars you ask? Well, for one I believe most of our dislikes for this ride were either OPERATOR ERROR or just conditions that couldn't be helped. It's just the luck of the draw when dealing with nature. Secondly, I think despite the shortness of the trail, it is perfect for beginners and families with children old enough to ride on their own. [ NOTE TO OWNERS ] I would like to suggest regularly trimming low lying branches along the trail, adding colorful signage reminding riders to watch their knees in at least TWO critical areas and/or add a guide rail to deter the horses from walking so close. Most of us city folk just don't know how to handle a horse!!! Also, since the trail is short and most people these days love photo opportunities, why not build a second mounting/dismounting platform at the top of the hill where riders can have a chance to pause & take pics on or beside their horses. I personally think this would go a long way in improving the experience. TIP WHEN PLANNING A VISIT: Currently they do not allow doubles, so smaller children or kids fearful of riding alone cannot ride (unlike Big Rock which allows small children to ride with parents). ENJOY 2020 / 71

Unfortunately, the experience was incredibly frustrating. There was little to no clear signage explaining where to check in or how the process worked. We waited at the "Riding Stables" counter, and when we finally spoke to an employee, we were simply told to stand by the stop sign at the stable. We waited there for nearly an hour before learning we were supposed to have purchased tickets first. No one at the counter mentioned that, even though we specifically told them we were there to ride and didn't know what to do. When I went back to buy tickets, I was told both riders had to be present, so I had to run back for my daughter, only to lose our place in line (we were next up). We were then told rides were assigned based on ticket purchase time, meaning we'd have to start all over again. Since we had a flight to catch, we had no choice but to leave without riding. We could've used that lost time for a nice breakfast and one last hike. To make matters worse, when I explained what had happened, the employee dismissed our concerns and said she was "just in charge of pictures and that we would probably still make our flight" even after starting the whole wait process over. Better signage, clearer instructions, and staff who take ownership of customer issues would have prevented this entire experience. The lady at the main ticket counter wasn't helpful either. Very disappointing.

If you live in a flat state like I do and are not used to driving on mountain roads, you may want to ensure you arrive before dark. Once we arrived, it was a nice surprise to find this spacious, clean and comfortable home on the side of a cliff. From the front driveway, the home appears smaller. But once you enter, you are greeted by a beautiful vaulted ceiling, well kept hardwood floors and inviting, open spaces. The 3 bathrooms were all very nicely decorated and we love the large, updated showers. The bear decor throughout the house we stayed in is so charming and the kitchen is very well stocked. It was a treat having a hot tub to sit in after a long day of hiking. We also appreciated the pet friendly accommodations. We had a gracious host and he was a great communicator. Sadly, we did not see any bears during our stay but witnessed amazing views of the city lights, moon, stars and sunrise from the decks. The swing on the porch, pool table, ice maker and washer dryer are added bonuses too. We highly recommend this area, if you can drive on the challenging mountain curves, Great Gatlinburg getaway!

Cave Mountain Lodge -- Beautiful Cabin, But Too Many Unresolved Issues for the Price…read more (3/5) at best... We stayed at Cave Mountain Lodge over the 4th of July holiday with our extended family, and while the cabin itself is genuinely lovely -- comfortable beds, plenty of space for everyone, and a great layout -- our stay was repeatedly interrupted by maintenance issues that took far too long to resolve, especially given the price point. 1. Marijuana odor on arrival. The cabin smelled strongly of marijuana when we walked in. I called guest services right away and was told someone would be sent to check it out -- no one ever came. By the time I followed up, regardimg another issue, the smell had faded (or we'd just gotten used to it), so I let them know. We later found cigarette evidence in the outside trash can, which matched what we were smelling inside. 2. Pool door alarm malfunction (2+ days) The pool door alarm went off repeatedly, and guest services personnel walked me through several troubleshooting steps (via phone) that didn't fix it. We lost pool access for the kids for two full days because of it. On day 3, a maintenance tech came by while I was out and told my aunt the fix was simply holding the alarm shutoff button down for a four-count -- something that should have been communicated on day one. All.of guest services needs to know this! 3. Smoke alarm beeping (2 nights) Around day 3 or 4, the smoke alarm started chirping. I called again and was told someone would come by, but it took two full nights of intermittent beeping before it was actually fixed. 4. Broken dishwasher and plumbing issues We didn't cook much early on, so we didn't catch it right away, but the dishwasher wasn't actually cleaning anything -- multiple family members ran it (with the same dirty dishes) several times before we realized it. We ended up buying paper plates and cups to get through the week. We also dealt with a bedroom sink with almost no water pressure and a showerhead with several clogged holes. I reported all of this at checkout. The good: The cabin itself is spacious, the beds are excellent, and it comfortably fit our whole family. That's the reason this isn't a 1- or 2-star review. The bottom line: For what we paid, we shouldn't have had to spend this much time on the phone troubleshooting alarms, going without a working dishwasher, waiting days for basic fixes, or having to spend more money because of the lack of maintenance. We called multiple times about each issue and were told help was coming -- often it wasn't, or it came very late. Management should tighten up response times on maintenance calls, especially for issues (smoke alarms, pool safety alarms, odor complaints) that affect safety and comfort, not just convenience.

VENTURE SMOKY MOUNTAINS-TOUCHED BY AN ANGEL CABIN REVIEW…read more This is lengthy and detailed! I've come to find out it's really hard to find many reviews of this place. So let me help with that! We (my husband, my dad, and I) stayed at Touched by an Angel outside Sevierville. I booked through Venture Smoky Mountains. This was my husband and I's first time coming to the Smokies! There's an absolutely overwhelming amount of cabins/rental groups to choose from which makes it hard to know which to book. You didn't get the address of the cabin till AFTER you booked which was super strange and I didn't like that at all. And because I was new to this, I thought the address listed at the bottom of the page was our cabin but it ended up being their office location! This is the mountains of course, and the cabin was up there! Some of the turns were so sharp getting up there we had to reverse in the road to be able to turn. Thankfully the roads up there aren't busy. We were supposed to get a coupon book but we never did. There was definitely a smell about the cabin-not saying it was 'bad' but it had its own smell for sure. The smell stays on your things after you leave! The good: overall pretty clean. Appeared to be new appliances (or just well kept). The furniture in the living room and the beds were pretty comfortable. AC worked good! We had WiFi. Not too many bugs except for the ones I'll mention later. The jacuzzi was large. I liked that the downstairs bedroom had double doors with a lock. Ok now the brutally honest truth of it all. The security system didn't seem to be plugged into anything. Our fireplace didn't work (there was no note left mentioning if it was because of the time of year). The hot tub didn't work (lights came on but no jets and or heat) and was gross looking. There was a film on the water and a big dead bug. The tub itself didn't look like it had been cleaned in a long time. And on Venture's page it says "Your hot tub was completely drained, cleaned, sanitized, and re-filled prior to your stay for your pleasure and safety." I call absolute bullcrap on that! I thought it was weird that there were no pictures of the bathroom/showers on the site. Now I know why: the showers were tiny half showers. Our shower on our cruise ship was bigger! It was horrid and I dreaded taking a shower-not just for the size but the STINK! Listen, I grew up on well water that smelt like pennies. This smelt like straight sewage! Yuck!!! And another couple we met on the trip who were no where near us also had the same thing. Who wants to bathe in water that smells like sewage?! Showering left us feeling dirtier than before. And brushing your teeth with it? Not appetizing. The water is so hard that in the downstairs bathroom sink and jacuzzi there were rust stains from the water constantly dripping. Looked gross. The bathroom sink faucet and the shower faucets NEED to be soaked in vinegar! They are so scummed over and the water shoots out in odd ways because it's plugged. So when washing hands downstairs, you get soaked because the way the water comes out. No water pressure in upstairs shower. I brought my own Clorox wipes and tried wiping the jacuzzi down (including the stain). One of the selling points for me was the jacuzzi. But because it was so large (which isn't a negative) it wouldn't fill. I ran the water for 10 minutes and when I sat in it, it still didn't cover my feet. Who has time to wait for their bath to fill for an hour?! Also, there were things floating in it and it smelled like sewage so I was NOT relaxed! I said screw it, got out and drained it. Twice I stepped on small glass shards around the downstairs bed. Thank God they didn't cut me. Our last night there, my dad had a big wasp hanging on his ceiling fan cord. Then another crawling in his lamp. There was also a third wasp (not sure if there were more lurking elsewhere). He killed two to three and they were all concentrated around the bed. He ended up getting stung around 2 AM on his belly underside which was under the covers! You do have a neighboring cabin to the left side of you. So no hanky-panky on the porch The closet door in the bedroom downstairs scrapes the floor and doesn't open all the way without force. The remote batteries upstairs were dying and I don't think there was a handle on the closet door. The drawer next to the oven won't open unless the oven door is pulled down. There were food particles on one of the spoons that the cabins provides. Overall, this left my husband and I feeling like we wouldn't want to chance staying in a cabin again. Also, it's like a 10-15 minute drive into town (which we are used to that, we are from the country!) but we would rather stay in a hotel along the strip next time.

TLDR: If I could rate 0 I would. We (my family and my sisters family- total of 7) rented the cabin…read morecalled "dollys dream", more like dollys nightmare. I should've realized with booking; initially tried to book online but ended up calling because there apparently the old site up that they can't get down. Booking on the phone was simple enough once I was on with the right place but afterwards everything just went downhill. Firstly the cabin looks NOTHING like any of the pictures that are on the website. There was trash all outside, everything is changed from the inside, the furniture, seating etc. My husband, kid and myself stayed on the bottom floor, and my sister and her family stayed on the main floor. Getting to the cabin: We drive 9 hours to get to what we thought was a well maintained, nice cabin. WALKING IN, there was BIRD POOP everywhere, and I do mean everywhere. I have no clue when the cabin was last cleaned prior to our stay but based on the calendar bookings, 2 days prior to our stay was the last booked. There was bird poop on the floors, doors, back of the couches, door frames.. I mean, it was bad. I kept looking around and found that our kitchen sink had a leak in the piping under it and they had just placed a bowl there to catch the water but there was already a puddle of gross water under the bowl. The dishwasher also had a puddle of standing water on the bottom and smelled kind of gross. So I called the main office and told them about the poop and the leak, I was told the cleaners were otw but we left and started our vacation. Upon getting back, they did clean the bird poop up but when I checked under the sink, there was now 2 bowls for leaks - both sides of the sink were leaking vs just the one, and the dishwasher was not touched. Finally at night we decided to get cleaned up. Reminder- me and my fam are on the bottom floor. So my kid is about to take a shower downstairs when he comes and tells me water is on the floor. I go look and see water is leaking from the ceiling; it's coming from the wall and the vent overhead. I immediately called the after hours line and she tells me that she put in an urgent request with maintenance and someone should be calling soon- I received NO call. Also- the downstairs bathroom tub knob was broken, the knob wasn't "hooked" to what it needed to be hooked too in order to turn the water to hot/cold, and of course the tub didn't drain properly in any of the bathrooms (which I also mentioned). I was able to find out that the leak was coming from the upstairs master bathroom shower- so that's 2 showers down. So all 7 of us used the upstairs hall shower- which had no pressure, drained terribly so you stand in a bath of your dirty water, and made a lot of noise that scared my kid (he's 8). The next day I still receive no call and notice some other things with the cabin: the picture showed seating for 8, there's only 6 chairs, the a/c doesn't work very well (it stayed about 76 degrees the whole time even at night). There was smushed bugs everywhere on the walls and bugs continued to keep coming in through the cracks at the door and windows. The windows were nasty, webs, dead bugs etc. they could've at least taken a duster to em. The floor boards were gapping terribly and the floors were not very even (yes I know it's a cabin but this was super uneven). The cooking ware is def not up to standard, I brought my own from previous experiences. We also used paper plates, plastic cups and utensils, the only thing we used kitchen wise was the coffee maker- which took a long time to make coffee. Also, there wasn't enough towels for all of use, we went to Walmart and bought some for us to use also for a box fan to help cool the rooms down. The washer/dryer is subpar, the wash more so slightly jiggled vs truly agitated. The dryer took about an hour n half to dry. On day 3 I called back and spoke with another rep. I asked about the maintenance call and no one came out or called me back- she stated there was no record of my call. So I told her my issues again. I requested a partial refund due to a breach of contract in their end and read verbatim what the contract said vs services actually provided. She said she'll put a maintenance request in and that a manger would contact me in 5-7 days regarding the refund (it's still within time so I haven't gotten a call yet). So the 7 of use continued to use one dreadful shower. The next day, day 4, we wake up to a bag of towels. We didn't hear anyone come in or knock or anything. So we leave for the day and when we come back, I realize the shower handle in the downstairs bathroom was fixed and the tubs are draining better. My sister still didn't use the master bath shower since that was a fix you'd have to tear up the floors for. They did not call or anything, just came in and did what they did and left, which honestly made me uncomfortable, no notice or anything. The next day we packed all our stuff and left. I was glad to

Definitely do not try to book, they don't know how to answer a phone. Edit: Someone finally picked up the phone and called me "petty" just because they cannot hire an office person to take calls while they are away. Very unprofessional attitude. Also, gave me an attitude of the review and all they were worried about is me removing the review because they "work so hard and in business for 25 years."

We had started with what was supposed to be a quick introduction which turned out to be a 1.5 hour introduction and would've kept going but the hotel security kicked us out as it was 10:30pm-ish and they were closing up for the night. The introduction consisted of him promoting himself, his other tours/businesses, and his beliefs which could have been done in 15 minutes and then maybe passed out in a brochure as an advertisement instead if eating into our money/time. A good tour would also sell itself minus the 1.5 hour introduction. Once we finally left the General Morgan Inn and started the walking bit of the tour there was little history that was told which was interesting but very hard to follow because our guide kept going on tangents on his own personal stories, studies, bible verses etc. I understand that as a company they come from a Christian point of view and believe in life after death which is one of the reasons we booked a ghost tour to begin with because we are also believers in spirits but we were there to know the history of the town and not of him. I learned more from the placcards in front of the buildings rather than from the guide we paid for. We were all looking forward to visiting the jail and cemetery (which would've been the last part of the tour) that he kept mentioning but we only got about halfway through the walking tour and by that time it was 12:49AM! Unfortunately we had to tap out and call it quits after 4 hours and we had a "couple more hours to go". I will say our tour guide had a passion for his job/business but I wish the information was there, condensed, and organized. - Ghost Enthusiast
