All the staff we encountered were welcoming far beyond what mere professionalism required (everyone, but particularly thinking of Glenn, Sue, Brenda, Toby and Liz) - I always felt as welcome at the Francis Malbone House as I did at my grandmother's when I was a kid. Breakfasts and teas were terrific. The indoor and outdoor spaces are beautiful, tasteful and interesting. We absolutely look forward to returning.

We stayed here four 4-days and 3-nights in the Rosa room. Each room here is somewhat unique (I think there are only 8 rooms here), therefor experiences may be somewhat idiosyncratic to the specific room. Positives: + Hospitable welcome, alerted us by phone when the rooms was ready + Welcome gift (nice touch) + Large room + Gas fireplace which worked well + Comfortable king bed + Pleasant grounds + Separate entrance for this room + Convenient location + Excellent homemade breakfast with seating times to prevent crowding Negatives: - Road noise (on a very busy road, traffic including trucks 100 feet away) - Musty smelling, we couldn't keep windows open at night due to road noise - No sugar, etc. in room for coffee - Bathroom outlets not working - Bathroom door difficult to close - Blinds were broken on one side, and just left standing in the corner of the room, these should have been removed if they could not be repaired - Large piece of plastic left on the window sill, looked dirty there, not well cleaned - Uncomfortable sleep sofa couch for sitting and small TV - Microwave not working (actually it was after we figured out nobody plugged it in) - Outside light over door is on automatic timers, too bright for the light filtering shade, so the room is lit up at night (we prefer a dark room for sleeping) - Rosa backs up to the kitchen, and we could hear a lot of banging and noise at 10pm as they were doing prep work for the next morning The negatives balance out the positives for a 3-star stay. Bottom line, we'd be unlikely to return, especially to that room.

The only small down side of this room is the bathroom mirror. The wall sort of "cuts" across part of the mirror. You can use it, you just have to stand to the left. I feel like the luckiest person ever - as I managed to get the highly sought after tickets for the…read moreiconic Newport Folk Festival on my first try . . . but also was able to stay at this wonderful guest house.  The innkeeper, Lisa, worked miracles to make this happen and I'll be forever grateful.   Her home truly feels like a 2nd home - each room is so tastefully decorated with lots of books to browse through, as well as cozy chairs in which to read them with my favorite being on her wonderful front porch.  Coffee, tea and cocoas were available 24/7 and she often had cookies or brownies along with fresh fruit available for snacks throughout the day.  She baked something fresh and different for breakfast on each of the 6 days I stayed there, and also offered yummy organic granolas, yougurts, fresh fruit (melons, pineapple, strawberries) and hard boiled eggs.  She also thoughtfully offers a variety of milks and creamers for the coffees and teas.  One other guest even whipped up a mean chai latte, as they weren't a coffee drinker.  I appreciated her environmental thoughtfulness of not using disposables and the cloth napkins & breakfast trays really enhanced the feeling of being at home.  She also has a variety of beach chairs, umbrellas, sun screens, insect repellents, etc. that can be borrowed for use throughout your stay.  I will certainly be trying each year for future Folk & Jazz Fest tickets . . . and hope that I will also be lucky enough to return to Lionel Champlin Guest House.

It was no more than 10 minutes away from Newport Vineyards and less than 20 minutes away from downtown Newport. Both were easy drives or Uber rides. The inside of the house is absolutely gorgeous and feels like it's been recently renovated. We stayed in the Catherine room, which slept all eight of us comfortably. It was very spacious had a large bathroom and it's own little kitchen. The innkeeper and his partner were phenomenal! They were so helpful throughout the whole process of booking. The house was so well-maintained and we were there when we arrived and asked if there was anything they could help us carry up. They took care of breakfast the next morning, which was absolutely delicious and were just such genuinely sweet people. All of the girls were very impressed. I definitely see this as another girls weekend getaway or couple getaway. It is on a farm, so the outside is very farm like you'll smell the animals and you'll see the cornfield, but it truly adds to the quaintness of the place and you don't smell inside.

However, on…read moreour most recent stay (May 8-12) we had the pleasure of meeting the new owners, Mike & Rebecca. They are both wonderful hosts and made my husband and I feel very much at home. The East Bay has been painted inside and out, with all guest rooms being brightened with new linens, window coverings and art. Breakfast included coffee, tea, fresh juice, fresh fruit, homemade pastry, and a savory entree (quiche, sausage & baked eggs, etc) You will not go away hungry! East Bay's location is perfect for exploring the Island on foot or by car, or heading over to Newport. We even made the quick 1 hour drive down to Stonington CT for wine tasting. While we missed seeing Paul & Diane, we wish them well in their retirement. The East Bay and her guests are in very good hands with Mike & Rebecca.
