Lunch and happy hour at The Surf Shack were highlights of my most recent visit to Narragansett. The hotel and restaurant are bright and chic with lots of thoughtful accents. They have an excellent selection of cocktails, mocktails, beers and even very reasonably priced local wines. The local sauvingnon blanc, Tiki drink and mango cocktail were all refreshing and delicious. The food is Polynesian inspired and some of the best food I've had in Narragansett. The miso peach salad (special) and smashburger were very good and the Thai peanut noodles and lobster pot pie are outstanding. The hosts and servers were all very warm and welcoming to us and our two pups (dogs are allowed on the porch). Can't wait to visit again! read more

So disappointed in this restaurant. The menu is very limited and expensive. The menu on website is very deceiving. The service was awful. I think our server was new because she didn't seem to know what she was doing. The restaurant was empty and we waited a very long time. The strange thing is other staff were standing around and never offered to help us. We had to ask one of them to clear dirty dishes but they didn't take all of them. This spot is beautiful! Every little detail in the place is thought out from the exterior, to the side connected to the hotel portion to the dining room and gorgeous bar. Stepping foot in this property is sure to take your breath away. The service is just as wonderful. Johnny and Theresa took care of us. Johnny picked cocktails and menu items that met our dietary needs which was so greatly appreciated. Theresa took care of all of our needs during our dining experience. She cleaned up an accident spill, replaced our drink (even though I was the idiot who spoiled said drink), got us new napkins, and brought anything we asked for. She was personable and we really loved having her as a server! The drinks were next level from presentation to taste. The matcha cocktail in the teddy bear cup was perfection! The food was tasty and flavorful! If you love seafood, charcuterie, fondue or cheese on cheese on cheese, then this is the place! I've driven by The Surf Shack many times and am so glad I finally stopped in. There was plenty of parking and seating, and the décor was lovely - at moments I almost forgot I was even in Narragansett. Johnny greeted us when we walked in and absolutely delivered with his cocktail recommendations. Theresa was equally amazing as she offered great tips and went out of her way to help me find gluten-free options, which I really appreciated. We started coming here almost every week since May because we enjoyed the food, especially the wings and ribs, and the $6 draft margarita special that was recommended to us during our first visit. My wife typically ordered a dirty martini, while I looked forward to trying the different draft margarita flavors offered each week. The combination of good food, drinks, and value became one of the main reasons we continued choosing this restaurant over others. On our most recent visit, I ordered two draft blueberry margaritas, expecting the same pricing as always. My wife ordered a freshly made margarita from the bartender. When the bill arrived, I was shocked to see that my draft margaritas were $14 each, more than double the price we had consistently paid, while my wife's handcrafted margarita was only $10. If the pricing had changed, no one mentioned it when we ordered. Had we been informed that the draft margaritas were now $14, I would have ordered something else. Being surprised by such a significant price increase after becoming a regular customer was extremely disappointing. The food has always been good, but a dramatic increase like this without any notice left us feeling misled. This experience has us wondering if it's time to start exploring other restaurants instead. read more

The Surf Shack Bar/Restaurant was a cute, cozy venue with great seating inside and out! We opted for the wrap around deck and the service was phenomenal. The drink and food menu was amazingly creative and our server was very patient with us as we explored the various options - she even brought me a sample of the ginger marg that I eventually ended up ordering as a cocktail, it was delicious. I ordered the Thai Peanut noodles as I am a sucker for peanut noodle dishes and it did NOT disappoint! Hubby got the Chicken Salad Sammy which was a ginormous sandwich with peanut sauce and came with purple potato salad - those were also delicious!! They were recommended to me by a family member and I will definitely go back! So many interesting dishes to try out - highly recommend!! read more

Very disappointing; half of our dishes were simply inedible - food that should have been hot was served cold, vegetables were served raw, potatoes seemed to have been sitting on a shelf somewhere collecting dust for a few days before being served, salad lacked dressing or any flavor whatsoever and the dressing offered tasted like 3 cups of sugar dissolved in 1/2 cup of water. read more

The styling on the interior and out was a delightful surprise. The modern beachy aesthetics were very cool. This is a 0.68 miles walk to the Narragansett town beach. We used a beach wagon to pull our beach stuff and it was very do-able as adults. I don't think I would have made little kids walk it, but this was a couples trip. There's a lovely back deck that looks like it can serve beer/drinks but it wasn't open on a Tuesday evening but that was okay. I love the modern key locker system. One caveat; I couldn't find it right away. It is located in the main level right near the hostess stand for the restaurant. You access it digitally through a website and your phone. You hold your phone and press a button and the door to the key cubby pops open. That has a old fashioned key for the front door to the building and also a key for your room. There's a filtered water fountain in the hallway on the second floor. I don't think the building is wheelchair accessible so be aware of that. The restaurant is not open all the time. We stayed a Tuesday night and it wasn't open the 2 days were were there. Great walkability for all the restaurants and shops near the Tower. Would stay again! read more

I wish I had thought to take photos of the food. I came in on a staycation package, which was an absolutely steal for an off season get away. They have a concise menu with several options for people with food allergies. I enjoyed the KC steak, which was cooked to absolute perfection. The vibe with the place is really cool. Nice bright colors and outdoor area to hang out and relax. Service was interesting. Very direct and impatient. That said, we ordered cocktails and we were never asked if we wanted a second. Lost $ opportunity on the restaurant. Calamari was delicious. Swordfish was very dry. But really impacted our experience was that the exact same waitress offered a couple of additional specials to the table behind us then she did for us. Mind you, we were done. Celebrating my birthday with friends we decided to try a place that was new to us. Happily seated on the porch, we ordered a variety of small plates. Everyone was happy but the Brussels and soft shell crab were two real winners. The crispy buns were offered vegetarian and regular style. Those and the beet salad were perfect for my friend's son. My only issue was they up charged for my lemon drop without asking if I wanted top shelf vodka. I was also slightly disappointed the only birthday treat they offered was a candle ! The server was good. The drinks were good. The atmosphere was cute. The food was very bad for the price point. Some observations: 1. Breading did not stick to calamari. 2. Chips served with Poisson Cru were soggy. 3. Soba noodle salad wasn't anything special and the noodles were almost to the point of crunchy. 4. Everyone's salmon was overcooked. 5. Traditional lobster roll lacked any flavor. 6. The only option for dessert is mousse (fine if you like mousse I guess but for a restaurant with this price point you'd expect more). Dinner was saved because we were a bunch of good friends enjoying our time together but it would have been nice if the food was enjoyable as well. Hopefully they improve by next summer. read more

Went to meet with my sons in laws after Christmas there were ten of us and three kids with two newborns. They couldn't have been more welcoming and accommodating offering many options for seating. With all the chaos I didn't get any photos but the drinks are amazing the atmosphere perfect! We sampled probably most of the menu and the food was amazing. Home made dumplings, wings, the salmon toast holy cow! We heard they offered a lobster pot pie and got it to share was truly delicious and so much lobster. Theresa our server was truly on point, Jenni and Mary the bartenders were so engaging. To a person we were totally happy that we stopped here for our family get together. Well done Surf Shack! just looking at the menu and so glad to see two vegetarian entrees ie pad Thai and a poke bowl. I had gone to eat here a year ago and could only get a vegetarian appetizer. I asked the waitress if the chef could make a vegetarian dinner for me and she said no. I went home and cooked myself a dinner since I left there hungry. It was a Saturday night and the place was so noisy that I could not hear anyone at my table and it was the same for all of us. I may try again since there is now some vegetarian fare. read more

Tangerine Dream cocktail was refreshing, hubby's mezcal cocktail was a pretty purple with the right amount of salt and was the rare mezcal cocktail that I enjoyed. The crispy brussels sprouts with aioli were excellent, as was another guest's corn chowder. Hubby got sautéed vegetables made with a lot of butter. My grilled octopus came with a nice green sauce and a refreshing salad with watermelon radishes and fennel. Hubby enjoyed his mushroom burger, and his fries were excellent. Flourless chocolate cake with a scoop of ice cream was also excellent. Service was fine. The outdoor seating on the porch was lovely. A relaxed atmosphere with friendly staff and great food. My wife had lobster Mac and Cheese. It was loaded with lobster and she could not finish the large portion. Our friend had the pad Thai and said it was the best she ever had. Chef Heidi often comes from the kitchen to gfeet folks and discuss the food. Lots of outdoor seating on the deck. The interior is really cute and the staff are friendly and attentive. The food is inconsistent. When it's good - it's REALLY good, but for some reason this restaurant can't seem to stick to the recipe. My main issue with the place is that when I go there and come across a dish or a drink that I really enjoy, and then come back a month later, ordering that same dish or drink - it very often doesn't taste the same (sometimes it doesn't even LOOK the same). For example: over the summer, I really enjoyed the crab and corn chowder. I went back about 2 weeks later and ordered it again. The second time around it had bacon in it (it previously did not have bacon the first time I ate it). The green sauce that was drizzled on top for garnish was missing as well. It didn't taste bad - I do like bacon after all, but it wasn't what I expected. Second example: Ordered an alcoholic beverage that contained pear. It was garnished with pear slices and was mildly sweet. Came back a week later and ordered the same drink, but there were no pear slices on top, and some kind of herb had been added to it to make the drink tangy/citrusy. read more

Inconsistent cooking and presentation - one order ribs still intact (connected) and they were a little dry and smaller than the order that came out with ribs separated. The second order more flavorful, bigger. Beet salad with goat cheese, very good. No tomorrow like in photo on website. 0 stars for the filet mignon. $36 each plate. Two people at the table ordered: one well done the other medium-rare. The one that was supposed to be well done was medium (could see pink). Sent it back to be cooked well done and received another piece (not the one previously cut) back, so small and burned. The other person who ordered a filet, her fingers were almost bruising from pressing so hard on steak knife to cut hers that was supposed to me medium-rare (hers looked rare to almost raw). The meat was tough which is not expected for filet mignon and it smelled funny, like it was old and has been in freezer a while. The Rhody burger just ok, so much sauce, burger so small on a big brioche bun. I think the cheese was cheese not gruyere s online menu indicated. I prefer Smash Burger's $8 Swiss mushroom burger to this as Smash's has more flavour. The flourless chocolate cake different than when we went before. Ehh, it was ok. I was excited to try for brunch. I'll give it a solid 3. Service was slow and they were having issues with the fryer, so i couldn't try the beignets. The Bao buns were good, however maybe related to the fryer issue, the bun was kind of greasy. We had an awesome dinner at the Kitchen at the Surf Shack - second time visiting and it is deliciously consistent! The mussels/frites were awesome - as was the yummy shrimp, scallops, eggplant and Brussels - and a special beef tar-tar and shrimp menu preview from Chef MoMo! Debbie was a wonderful sever, very attentive - and gave us excellent recommendations and service. We have been before and had the wonderful duck and cauliflower.
