To be honest, I was expecting more from the zoo. However, I know when I came here, despite the very hot weather, they all look happy and healthy. I was hoping there are more room or space for the petting zoo itself, so more to explore and space for the animals as well. They all look so clean and healthy, don't get me wrong! They have this cute little piglets by the check-in booth! They give you a chocolate candy as part of the entrance package. Their chocolate is good, it's too sweet for dark chocolate tho. Would definitely recommend for people to visit when it's less hot tho. read more

This petting zoo was a great visit! There are goats and alpacas to feed, a friendly pig named Augustus walking around, an array of birds to admire, a camel named Zeus, ponies, a cow, a zebra and his pal a zonkey. We sampled some of the chocolate they make there (and purchased some to take home). Shawna was so nice and shared wonderful stories of how all the animals were rescued with a parrot on her head. I had planned to check this place out while visiting Temecula, but took advantage of the discount ticket price thanks to my Hot Air Balloon ride with Magical Adventures. Highly recommend. read more

I visited Sugarplum about 5 years ago and had a very nice experience here with the animals. Things are much different now and very sad and depressing to report. The greeter at the entrance to the zoo was very kind but the grounds and the animal enclosures were dirty and the animals literally had a carpet of flies on their bodies. I understand that some of these animals are rescues but a few looked sick and unkept. I would not recommend this zoo to anyone. I hope they take this review to heart and improve the conditions under which these animals live. read more

Sugarplum Zoo is such a gem! I did a ton of research on petting zoos in the area and this one has so many animals to see as well as their own mini chocolate shop where everything is made in house! I got myself a cup of gelato and it was mouthwateringly delicious. I think my only complaint is I wish we would be able to go inside some of the animal enclosures to pet them better like the llamas and goats. Otherwise great time! read more

DEFINITELY WORTH $10 ENTRY! Even as adults, we spent hours here and we had SO MUCH FUN. I rec going a few hours before closing, so that you can have as much time with the animals as possible & so that you can see them get their food! There is a steep one way incline to the parking lot on top (careful if you're driving stick or have a really old car). We paid for entry and watched a short little video on the petting zoo rules, such as which animals we can pet & enter the enclosure with (Artemis the tortoise, only the feet and shell and Daphne the rabbit with her guinea pig friends), and the animals that you can feed (the alpaca, llamas, and goats, but only a pinch so they don't hurt their tummies). We got to see: 1) Artemis the Tortoise: -You can enter the enclosure! -You can only touch his shell and his feet, but I did learn that tortoises do make sounds! A light sighing type of sound, very funny haha -I also learned that tortoise have very soft feet, for such a hardy animal. 2) Llamas, Alpacas, and Goats: -You can feed them! Just a pinch of hay, so they don't get sick. Seeing them eagerly coming towards the fence is very endearing. -This enclosure included: Nubian and Nigerian dwarf goats, Hera, a rare Appaloosa spotted llama, Noel a retired Disney alpaca, and Pluto, an alpaca with black raccoon spotted eyes. 3) Zeus the Dromedary Single Hump Camel: -He'll come up right to the fence, making him very easy to pet! -Just be wary since he can snatch your hats! 4) Ophelia & Apollo the Asian Water Buffalos: -Very gentle giants. Calm and you gotta really pet them so they can feel them. -There are brushes on site, so you can grab some and Ophelia went straight up to the fence so we can brush her and even followed alongside the fence so we can continue doing so. -From the water buffalo enclosure and forward, you're allowed to brush the animals! I highly recommend this on top of petting them since some of them will walk up to you just for a brushing! 5) Daisy the Juliana Pig: -We saw her earlier in the day sleeping in her igloo, but later on she got up for some water and to wander around, very sweet pig that you can pet. -There's also back scratchers available so you can give her a good scratch ! 6) Daphne the Holland Lop Rabbit & Guinea Pigs: -Also one of the enclosures you can go into! Just make sure you don't hit your head and you have to squat down. -Surprisingly one of our favorites! We went back in like 3 times, lol. -Daphne is a super sweet, affectionate rabbit. She'll come up to you and hop near your shoes and doesn't mind being pet. -Some of the guinea pigs are a bit skittish but others are very calm and are open to being pet. Just make sure you don't pick any up! 7) Dwarf Horses & Micro Mini Horses: -The horses also come up to the fence to be pet and are very mild mannered. -There's also a small cow in that pen too, she came up to the fence around feeding time and was very pretty. 8) Yaks and Cows: -Anthony and Adonis the yaks and Calipso and Chloe the Texan longhorn cows. -These guys just stayed in the middle/back of their pen and chilled, probably not in the mood for petting that day but interesting to look at nonetheless. 9) Luna & Cupid the Donkeys: -Very calm and also love being brushed. 10) Aurora the Zebra and Gaia the Zonkey: -They were a bit skittish too, but eventually the zonkey came up to the fence and allowed us to pet them for a bit. -Didn't get a chance to pet the zebra, but it was fun to watch them play around and tease each other. 11) Cows and Sheep: -Venus the fluffy brown Highlander cow is SUPER VOCAL with her moo-ing and is a sweet heart too. -Giselle the micro Zebu cow is super cute and small (in terms of cows) and liked being pet as well. -There was another pretty light brown cow with long lashes and a neck dewlap that was very soft and fun to touch and waddle, haha. -The sheep sometimes came up to be pet, but mostly kept to themselves. 12) Various Birds: -There were some guinea fowl near Daisy's pen. They scuttled around a bit. -The other birds are on the other side of the zoo. -You hear some strange thumping sounds and those are the emus on site! There is an albino one that is GORGEOUS. Piercing beautiful blue eyes. -The hornbill, Perceus, enjoyed showing us his rocks haha -There are some other exotic birds, chickens, pheasants, and ducks too On site there is a port-a-potty and 2 sinks to wash your hands. Unfortunately I didn't see the capybara, prairie dog, wallaby, or mara that were in other pics. Inside the small gift shop, you get a free chocolate truffle sample and you can see Hibou the barn owl and a hedgehog (who was sleeping at the time since it's nocturnal). There's also some small gifts, gelato, beverages & freshly laid eggs. I got the mystery pack of 15 chocolates & some black forest truffles. Their chocos are featured at local 5 star hotels. The animals looked very sad when I went. They told us we could brush some of the animals. The first animal I brushed was a cow but to my surprise she was balding. My guess is she is brushed so much by visitors that her hair has fallen off in certain areas. I saw a couple of long hair animals that were matted and did not look well kept. One of the pony's hooves was very long that he could not step on it to walk comfortably. I overheard the caretaker say upkeeping the animals is expensive. I believe that but they charge $20 a person plus more money to give the animals a little snack, plus they have a gift shop. I think they could at least unmatte the animals with that income and get proper foot care for the animals. I'm giving the extra star for cleanliness. The location was clean, I give them that. read more

This place is fantastic! It's a great hour or so to spend in beautiful wine country on a gorgeous property that showcases an array of animals. From a massive tortoise to goats, horses, and cows to zebras and toucans -- they've got it all. They've got an adorable hutch for littles to climb into to pet bunnies and Guinea pigs, and big bags of goat and alpaca food for sale for $5. One thing: I'd recommend coming here with small kids (under the age of five). I don't know that bigger kids will find it as entertaining as it's not an enormous space. So we always go near my home to see animals but this time decided to go further away. Sugarplum farm is surrounded by wineries so being tempted is very high. This location could get busy but it is all outside. Only one porta-potty restroom. Two sinks with soap. For 10$ you get to see a bunch of rescued animals which are from common chickens to endangered animals. The few animals that definitely stick out are the camel and friendly cow. Camel is distant but nips if you get close. Cow loves being scratched in the hard to get places on it's neck. Huge pig moves around sometimes but usually just to move back to its cage to eat. Definitely a place to visit for kids or a stop on a progressive date. Oh yeah, complimentary chocolate at the end, which definitely gets you to want more! read more

We heard about this place only bc our hot air balloon landed across the street from the petting zoo. It was such a great place with so many exotic animals ! A tiny pot bellied pig wanders around , there's a big bunny and Guinea pig hutch you can go into and pet these adorable animals. $10 for adults , $8 for seniors. They had a llama, alpacas, goats, zonkey, zebra etc. Watch out for the naughty camel who will try to eat your shirt or purse ! We spent about an hour and got chocolate samples too. I loved my time at Sugarplum Zoo. All the animals are rescues so I like that I was supporting a great cause. It's a very interactive zoo so you're able to pet and feed most of the animals. There are a few where you can actually go into the enclosure with them. It's amazing. I love animals so I had the time of my life. My favorite was the massive pig that was sleeping and you can walk to get and scratch her back gently. I used to have an overweight dog so she reminded me of those times. On top of this, the staff were extremely pleasant and helpful. It's also rare to see the actual owner of the farm putting real work into the animals. We saw her shoveling poop and taking care of animals. Big respect to her! In the end, you get to wash your hands and sample some chocolate while this beautiful bird jumps on your shoulders and arms. We had the best morning here with our daughter. The location was east to get to, we arrived on a Monday morning around 10 and had the whole place to ourselves. The staff was nice and the setup is simple. You walk up to the little shop, pay, and you're on your own to walk around. We paid $5 extra for goat food and it was well worth it. The animals are easily accessible, all are very used to being pet and we're friendly, and our almost two year old had so much fun seeing and petting animals that she wouldn't normally get to. Shawna is so sweet and helpful! It's not a very large place and is better suited toward small children with less of an attention span. Interactive as you can pet the animals (if they come over to the fence) and also feed them (food available for an additional charge). A little on the expensive side for the size but as a small business it makes sense that they have to charge more to keep the place operating. The pro of it being a smaller place is getting more interaction with the animals and staff is available to ask questions. read more

We found this cute little Zoo about 4 years ago. The owners are so personable and full of knowledge. These animals are so well taken care of and they enjoy people and there surroundings. I was instantly drawn to Zeus , He's a huge camel with such a personality! The Farm is always growing and they just added a wine tasting room for the adults :) and chocolate and Gelato for the kiddies ! This is always a must stop place while by the Wineries.
