I went to Sugar's with my sister and wife recently and I have to say, it was a pleasant experience. It is joined with Sugar's Bar but we went in the morning so there were only people eating. The first thing that I noticed was how cold it was. It was pretty cold so if you go here I would just make sure you had a jacket or something on. I ordered the Fantasy Island, which is hash browns with a biscuits, gravy, scrambled eggs, ham, bacon, and some veggies on top. It was pretty dang delicious. The food was good but not sure if it was worth $8, but it did however fill me up. The customer service from the wait staff was great. They greeted us, were nice, and were very friendly throughout our breakfast. Overall, it was a very good experience and I'm more than willing to come back and try their dinner food.

I was pleasantly surprised by this place! I met a girlfriend here for breakfast on a Sunday morning. A cup of coffee was $1.50. I ordered a mushroom and swiss omelette and it was STUFFED with tasty mushrooms and just the right amount of melted cheese. My breakfast came with hashbrowns and toast. For $5.95 it was quite the value of a meal. With tip included, I got out of there for $10 (and with leftovers). This diner is attached to Sugar's Lounge, so don't be surprised when you walk in! The servers/waitresses were attentive, as my friend and I never had an empty cup of coffee; they keep the refills a-comin'. Our server was very nice, too. I will definitely come back! It's a relaxed atmosphere, it seems it has many fans, and the food was pretty tasty.

The most amazing tenderloin in Council Bluffs. Never disappoints. Seems like they could use a little bit more help.

Worst lunch. Waited 15 minutes before even being greeted. Very non diverse environment made me uncomfortable. And the food was very bland.

Great lunch. The wait staff could be a little quicker and attentive, but otherwise good. Hence a 4 instead of a 5. Keep up the good work.

It wasn't busy at lunch, just a few tables and booths filled. The black and white checkered floor tiles, high-walled wooden booths, colorful tables, and brick walls give the small space an old timey vibe. Breakfast is served until closing and the lunch menu starts at 11. This day I had a patty melt and my friend had a western omelette. My patty melt was as expected and not huge, but just right. It came with potato chips but could have been upgraded to French fries or onion rings for an extra charge. I ended up taking half of it home. My friend's omelette came with hash browns and toast. The menu says you can order 1/4 or 1/2 an order of hash browns, but I don't think she did that because there were a lot of potatoes. It was a quiet and peaceful lunch, just regular everyday food, cooked well. We didn't leave room for dessert, but it might be a good idea just to come in for coffee and pie.

But the service is so incredibly rude it's impossible to go here. The lady at the cash register openly yells at guests and abuses elderly customers. She's hyper confrontational and thinks it's amusing to provoke conflict. She thinks because she works at a casino she's untouchable because they have guaranteed customers. Buyer beware: mid food with confrontational service.

I'm not the cruel type (cruel = weakness, only the strong can be kind--I know because I was once cruel). At the same time, underwhelming is underwhelming and I must report the facts. Fortunately, there is something about JB's that is excellent. I'll save the best for last. In the meantime, I'd like to give you a piece of advice. If you ever go to Iowa and people tell you, "This place has great pizza," please remind yourself that Iowa is great for a few things (primarily steakhouses, methheads, and tornados), but pizza isn't one of them. I took this local advice and got the pizza at JB's. If you know pizza, then as you can see from the picture, it's not very appetizing. I struggled to eat the first slice, ate half of the second, and then decided to give away the rest. I figured that would be easy due to 'amazing' pizza but it wasn't. I went up to five people before the sixth person couldn't believe I was giving him a pizza. The Turkey sandwich tasted like something you would pack for a climb up Mt. Washington in NH so you could eat it at the peak. The good news: This place is really an amazing bakery that also serves food. If you're looking for baked goods, go here! I was very impressed. The service was also pretty good. It depended who was working but it's the Midwest and you will mostly find kindness. And while you might find great food in some places in Iowa, it will not be found in Council Bluffs. Even traveling poker dealers say this often (good stop but terrible for food). I'll be posting some food reviews in near future as it's a way of reliving adventures I lived in the poker world for years. In fact, I have very likely lived a more adventurous life than any breathing poker player over the past six years. It had its costs but would I change anything? Hell no! Also, I don't know what the next chapter will be, but it will also involve adventure. I got a little off-topic there. I have written entire books about these adventures and I have no plans on writing any books for years so I might be adding little tidbits here and there on Yelp.

It's another South Omaha bar & grill with great food, great service and great conversations. Please note: still cash only and they have an ATM if you forgot. Go for the Hat Trick Burger or the Blue Jay Burger or the Husker Burger or a bunch more like Mushroom and Swiss Burger. They always have them written on the chalkboard in back. Burgers are very good and a good deal. $30-$40 bucks for 2 of us, 2 burgers, rings and 2 drinks before tip. Nobody takes your order. You read the menu, walk to the back, and tell the kitchen. Drinks are the same deal. And bring cash because they don't take cards. The ATM fee hurts. We tried the bacon cheeseburgers. Mine came with onion strings, which were actually really good. Her fries were bland beyond saving. The burgers themselves were just okay. Not bad, not "best in the city" either. Maybe the wild menu options are where the hype comes from. Service is fine. Not warm, not rude, just efficient. Overall: classic dive vibes, solid onion strings, average burgers. If I ever go back, I'm ordering something with more razzle dazzle.
