Desserts: crème brûlée, ice cream with toasted rice
    Melinda N.

Ordered the 6 hand roll set (Ora King Salmon® Ebi Nuoc Mam, Spicy Tuna®, Kampachi®, Crispy, Shrimp, Torched Unagi), Otoro signature hand roll, karaage chicken, miso soup, and desserts (cream brûlée and some ice cream with toasted rice. The handrolls tasted fresh. There was a little wait for seating but service was not bad. You eat around the hand roll bar and can watch the chefs make your hand roll. It's date night friendly.

Food: This was a very unique location for us to try. We love sushi and this was the first tine we have tried a hand-roll bar as its not very common in San Diego. Everything we ordered tasted phenomenal. From the spicy tuna to the softshell crab. ALL of it was delicious. If we had time to go back a 2nd time before we left, I would have def gone again. I also had a couple of drinks which were also quite tasty. Only thing I would say is that at it did take time for each of our orders to finish but I believe this was due to inly having 1 sushi chef and a handful of customers Service: I would say this would be that service was good but slow. It did take some time to receive our orders and it also took time to receive the check. Ambiance: Its a nice communal type of ambiance. Its def a louder type of restaurant as you are all seated around the sushi chefs, exactly like a bar (hence the name). We loved the vibe and the folks eating there all seemed to be enjoying the food and ambiance as well. Overall: I would rate this establishment a 4 to 4.5.

I came for the happy hour and the prices were great! The King Salmon was my favorite, and hard to beat at $4/piece. The Chutoro was also good, but the nori to fish ratio makes it hard to fully appreciate the flavor and fattiness of the fish. I also enjoyed the Hamachi. I just felt that each roll could have had a bit more oomph. The drinks were delicious, but this is coming from someone who prefers cocktails on the sweeter side. The Yuzu Spritz and Coconut Koi were incredible. The service was also great and I enjoyed that we ate at the counter and could interact with the chefs. Dannon was especially nice! I think this is one of the best happy hours in Seattle, especially considering its location!

I came to Sugo for happy hour on a Wednesday and was super excited and had a high expectations because my girlfriends from Seattle really hyped it up. We really loved the food and thought the hand rolls and fish were really high-quality, but had a bad experience with the service. From the beginning, we felt like our waiter wasn't super friendly. When my friend asked if the waiter could make one of the drinks into a mocktail, he responded he didn't know how to make it into a mocktail and made her feel weird when she asked for hojicha tea instead. The whole dinner I felt like he wasn't happy with us... he never smiled or gave us a friendly demeanor, and after debriefing with my friends they felt the same way. I felt like the only time I saw him smile was after we signed the check and gave him a 20%+ tip. Despite the fish and food being super good, I can't say I'd go back due to the poor experience with service.

I ordered the 6-piece hand roll set, which turned out to be a great combination overall. The only one I didn't enjoy was the spicy tuna. The location is very easy to find, just near Pike Place. Seating is counter-style only, so you get to watch the chefs prepare each hand roll right in front of you. Any cooked items are made in a separate kitchen near the entrance, but since it's an open concept, you can still see everything happening. Ora King Salmon: I love a good salmon roll, and this one did not disappoint, simple and absolutely delicious. Ebi Nuoc Mam: A shrimp hand roll with great flavor, definitely one of the highlights. Spicy Tuna: This one was a miss for me. I wouldn't recommend it unless you really enjoy a strong, spicy kick.Even after eating the rest of the handrolls, I still had that spicy taste stuck in my mouth. Kampachi (Almaco Jack): Part of the yellowtail family. It had a slightly fishier taste compared to the others, which wasn't my favorite, but my partner enjoyed its chewy texture. Crispy Shrimp: Panko-fried shrimp with sweet chili and mayo, crispy, flavorful, and satisfying. Torched Unagi: A classic favorite, sweet, savory, and always a great choice. Gyoza (6 pcs): Very savory dumplings filled with finely minced pork, cabbage, garlic, and ginger. The sauce really elevates the dish and adds an extra punch of flavor. Overall, a fun dining experience with fresh hand rolls and a great view of the preparation process. Not much interaction with the servers since the chef is technically your server and he places the food in front of you.

Such great quality ingredients and service! I got the 6 roll set and added oysters and a Hokkaido scallops hand roll. On the more expensive side of hand roll meals I've had but it's top 1 or 2 out of multiple hand roll places I've experienced in SF Bay Area, NY and now Seattle! Service was warm and attentive. People help each other out without prompting, so nice. I loved the oysters! So fresh and great pairing of flavors. The salmon was fantastic and buttery. The ebi nuoc nam was roll my eye to the back of my head good...mMm! The kampachi had great texture and I really enjoyed the crisp on the crispy shrimp, great breading! I highly recommend and will definitely come back whenever I'm visiting!

The first time I went to a hand roll bar, it was in Los Angeles. Fun experience. So when I heard about Sugo, I had to try it. So should you. Everyone sits at the bar. Servers take your order (assuming 4 rolls is a minimum) and the chef starts cranking out one roll at a time. You can come solo or with a crew. It's social and delicious. They have veggie rolls such as avocado-truffle and tempura eggplant. They are fantastic and half the price of a special roll. I love kanpachi so I had to try it. It was my favorite. The shrimp with nuoc mam was also excellent and something I had not had in sushi. Happy hour starts at 2pm. Next time....

I came here about 2-3 years ago and wasnt very impressed because both the nori and fish were very soggy during that experience. I passed by the other day and decided to give it another try. I was very pleasantly surprised! they have since expanded the fish selections on the menu, the flavor pairings felt much more elevated for each handroll, and my nori was very crisp :) favorites: kampachi (lime zest is great), madai, & ofc king salmon! i did still find the otoro and hamachi to be just a smidge fishy. overall a great casual spot for freshly made handrolls!

Good value hand roll bar out of the main pike place market area, looks like they rotate out their menu seasonally. Fish quality was pretty good but what was most impressive were how balanced all the flavors were - everything worked well together and their choices of seasoning and garnish really elevated the handroll!! Also I love how they don't put too much rice in the handroll - emphasis is on the filling and the seaweed doesn't get too soggy that way The also pay attention to details - rolls that have items that might fall out have an additional seaweed piece tucking it in. Rolls with too much filling are left open to eat like a taco Fav handrolls were the - king salmon : burst of fresh salmon flavor, good amount of fat and oil - shrimp w fish sauce : very refreshing! Felt like a spring roll (successfully) turned into a hand roll - crunchy shrimp : very umami and nice crisp, shrimp remained juicy inside Nigiri was alright - akami nigiri was a bit too fishy and tough to chew for me, chutoro was better

Rare hand roll bar in Seattle - sit at the sushi bar and enjoy freshly made hand rolls. Recommend the soft shell crab (amazing!), wagyu inaruzushi, crispy shrimp. Hand rolls are well made. Service is friendly. Chill vibes in a nice setting. Pricing is fair.

Sugo delivers a great experience for a casual sushi bar dining. All hand rolls and nigiris were so fresh. My favorite was melt-in-your-mouth chutoro nigiri. Would recommend it to anyone who likes fatty tuna. Drinks were also tasty. Make sure to make a reservation ahead of time.

Love this place!! Got to see the chef prepare each roll in front of us which was so nice! Each roll was around $7 which I find to be a good deal. The calamari had to be my favorite but the spicy scallop was also really good.

    Omakase
    Christopher L.

This is for the Omakase experience. Hands down, this is one of the best Omakase I have been to. To start, there is an oyster appetizer (be early, not late) that was flavorful and started the dinner off right. Each bite was delicious, paced well, and explained well. Each bite built with flavor. The sake pairing went perfect with the meal as well. At the end, there are extra bites available and they were well worth it. Last, there was a small bite for dessert to round out the meal. The space is nice and has about 10 people. For the service, it was spot on and really appreciate the time taken to go over the dishes and the sake pairing. Will be back for sure for this experience.

The décor is gorgeous--an elevated, glamorous tribute to the water buffalo that feels bold yet refined. We ordered the Miang Kham, Crying Tiger, and Mango Salad. I always order Miang Kham when I see it since it's such a rare find, and this one was excellent. The Crying Tiger was tasty but came out more well done than the medium-rare we ordered. That said, we still finished it because the dipping sauce was fantastic and the purple-and-white sticky rice was delicious. The Mango Salad was beautifully prepared with shredded mango that had just the right crunch and tartness. Generous portions served. Even during a busy late afternoon, the chef handled guests with ease and a big smile, serving beautifully executed dishes and cocktails. Very impressive. We'll definitely be bringing friends here next time we're in Seattle. Tip: They do true Thai spice levels here--proceed with caution."

The black pepper sauce was delivered warm, not very hot. The flavors met expectations. Stir Fried Udon with Tenderloin Steak, $20.95 - 4 Stars This dish is also done in a black pepper sauce. I quite like the high veggies-to-udon ratio, almost equal parts. Overall flavor is a bit salty. Some beef pieces are better than others, a mix of tender and chewy. Garlic Pepper Soft Shell Crab, $16.95 - 3.5 Stars Despite being fried, these pieces are softer, less crispy than I all other fried soft-shell crab I have had. Perhaps they might need to double fry. Fortunately I was in the SLU/South Queen Anne area, but I can totally seeing it being really difficult to find parking when it gets really busy during peak hours. The only parking options nearby are streetside parking with some paid lots - would recommend public transportation to get here to try the place out. Service was fast - this could also be attributed to going on a weekday, we were able to receive our food in about 8 - 10 minutes after ordering. Ambiance is cozy, feels like a casual dine in with lots of natural lighting and the decoration is charming. We got two items, which I'll review down below: Granny's Pork Belly Baos ($8): A tasty bun! The pork was tender and was nicely complemented by the slightly tart apples and floral plum sauce. The buns were light and fluffy and the green onion and cilantro provided a fresh herb taste. I think that $4 per bun is pretty standard price wise for two buns of this quality, and they service a pleasant appetizer. Village Bowl ($16): The Village Bowl is a vermicelli bowl that has all of the fixings - serves as a nice sampler into the types of meats that the restaurant has to offer. It was delicious! The meats were not too heavily salted, flavored well, and were cooked nicely. Portion-wise is decent and would maybe fill most people up. I think that maybe a little larger was would be perfect as I still left a little bit hungry after this bowl and an appetizer. I would say that Meekong Bar is pretty solid if you are looking for Vietnamese food in the SLU/upper belltown area. I think the thing that Meekong Bar has going for it is mostly the price, as other Vietnamese restaurants in the area charge much more ($4 - $6 more) for the same dishes. I would definitely come back to try the other options that this restaurant has to offer.

The staff were friendly, though service was a bit inattentive; I found myself waiting longer than expected for basic things. Interestingly, when I ordered noodles and asked for chopsticks, they told me they didn't have any. It was quite a surprise to find an Asian restaurant serving noodles without chopsticks. As for the food, it was fine, but nothing memorable for the price. I've had better Asian food elsewhere in Seattle for less. If you're after a stylish, brunch-aesthetic spot to try Asian-inspired dishes, Di Fiora fits the bill. But if you're going purely for the flavors, you may leave underwhelmed.

I was originally going to order some musubi, but after seeing a curry dish, I couldn't resist. Curry Loco Moco Don ($16) - The chef first piles a mound of rice in the bowl. It seems to be higher quality short grain rice, giving great mouthfeel at first, but then biting into it, the overcooked mushy qualities emerge. The rice is sprinkled with a bit of furikake, adding a briny and savory flavor profile. Two beef patties are set on top, both with seemingly fake grill marks, perhaps indicative of commercial patties. They are homogeneous with a kind of spongy texture, pressed into a puck with a bunch of filler like Japanese hambagu. The beef is somewhat tender, but isn't soft enough to be cut through with a plastic fork. There's a fried egg on top, complete with runny yolk and even a small amount of runny white. They then ladle a couple of scoops of Japanese curry over the top. It's somewhat generic, probably a normal boxed curry mix with no embellishment, but it's cooked well. It has a nice thickness, isn't too thin or runny, lending a good curry flavor to the dish. I do with it came with a bit more curry since after eating about half the dish, it was all gone. Finally, some pickled ginger on top completes the dish. The curry is quite filling, probably close to 2 pounds of food. (4/5) Musubi Kai is a convenient and quick stop for a bite while downtown.
