We were so incredibly pleased with the lasagna we enjoyed at the Little Italy Street Faire in San Jose. After one taste I told my husband that I thought the pasta was freshly made. Lasagna, it's the comfort food that I wish I had the time to cook because I love it so much, yet I never dedicate the time. That's where Sugo. Cooking comes in to fulfill my lasagna cravings! I was walking around the Burlingame Farmers Market this past sunday, and noticed they were selling ready-made orders of lasagna, packaged neatly inside a container. I haven't had a solid lasagna in a real long time, and I saw that they use handmade noodles and everything is made from scratch. The real sell point for me was that they use a bechamel sauce. In my mind, if lasagna doesn't have the bechamel, there's no way I'm going to like it lol I went with their traditional lasagna (their truffle was sold out :/, gotta get there earlier next time) and it was delicious. Heating was simple, 3 minutes in the microwave at 50% power. The noodles were buttery soft, the bechamel was tasty, and overall one of the tastiest lasagna I've ever had. My only regret was that I didn't buy more. The portion size was perfect my big appetite. It's one of those dishes that I would love to have on hand when I'm feeling too lazy to cook. They are at various farmers markets in the Peninsula and South Bay, highly recommend dropping by if you are looking for affordable, tasty, homemade, and authentic Italian food! Because I cook a number of different Italian dishes, my bar for this cuisine is very high. For example, many years ago I stopped ordering gnocchi at any restaurant because it was never as good as the recipe from my grandmother (thanks nana!). So I consider myself to be a tough critic for Italian food and admittedly a little reluctant to try new places for fear of being disappointed. My wife and I were at the Burlingame Farmer's market a few weeks ago to pick up a meal kit for Valentine's Day. We passed by the Sugo booth and I thought I would take a closer look because my Yelp community manager mentioned this place in one of his reviews (he gave them a 5). So we picked up three things, the traditional lasagne, some arrabbiata sauce, and the lasagna dolce. The sauce is still in the freezer, but I want to write a review for the others before my taste memory fades. Traditional lasagne: 4.5/5. Wonderful flavor, fresh tender noodles and it freezes so well. A single serving was big enough to split with my wife when we added a big salad. Lasagna dolce: 4/4. Sometimes it is hard to get over your preconceptions of what a dessert is, and it was really weird for me to be eating a dessert with faux-noodles in it. But it worked really well, and using a quality dark rich chocolate made a big difference. Nicely done. While I don't come to this farmers market very often (this was my first time) I will definitely be back. And with all of the food stands I want to come back with an appetite. read more

I tried their traditional lasagna and it was fantastic! Way better than those fake ones sold at Maggiano or Whole Foods with mozzarella or garlic. Plus, all their ingredients are ORGANIC! This is Italian cooking at its very best!!! I am Italian native and I have always been skeptical about Italian food overseas until my husband and I had lasagna from Sugo Kitchen at the farmers market in Sunnyvale. We tried all of their flavors (traditional, veggie and vegan) and they are SO YUMMY!! They hand roll the noodles sheets and they use locally sourced ingredients, the results... lasagna like my grandma used to make back in Italy! We usually get everything at the "Sugo" stand at the farmers market in Sunnyvale, but sometimes my husband's office also makes orders online for their lunch meetings. We tried almost all of their lasagnas and pasta salads, we loved everything, but our most favourite one is the vegetarian lasagna with spinach and a creamy bechamel sauce.
