I've been there a few times thought I wrote a review. It's always busy here. I find it best to go for lunch Service is quick It's carb heavy. But if you're happy to eat homemade pasta and like Italian it's a great place to go It's noisy as all heck though Can't say I've had anything bad there
The staff was so friendly and helpful and the food was sooo good. Some of the best pasta I've had in a long time. Great flavor. I would absolutely visit again. The dinning area is small, only fits about 24 people from what I counted, so make a reservation if you can!
If you crave a good family styled Italian meal, this is the place to be! It's a casual and upbeat spot just across from the Lawnsdowne TTC station. This is actually a review of Bar Sugo, the sister restaurant next door owned by the same owners as Sugo with the same menu but with wood burning pizza ovens. We came in at 5:15pm and the place was already packed on a Tuesday night! We placed our name on the wait list and was told a wait of 30 mins for a table for 2. We walked in next door and were seated right away at Bar Sugo which is double the size as Sugo. The menu was simple and we ordered the meatball, Spaghetti Pomodoro and veal parm to share. The texture of the spaghetti was perfectly chewy and you can taste the freshness. The veal parm was flavorful and the portions were generous. The tiramisu is one of the best I've had in the city and it's perfectly portioned for sharing. I would definitely be back to try more of the pasta and the 14 inch pizza pie.
Fantastic good done American-Italian style. Things to know. - close to the Lansdowne subway. - they don't take reservations so you need to get there right at 5 pm or put your name on a waitlist. After 7 pm they stop taking names as chances are you won't get in. (They close around 9 pm). You may wait as long as 90+ minutes for a table. - it's a small place so not a lot of tables. - really reasonable $ and awesome food. - they have a sister resto and bar just steps away with pretty much the same menu except they serve pasta and the bar serves pizza. It's also open later. - the portions are good sized and meant to be shared. We had the meatball (sooo good), Caesar salad (oh the garlic lol), garlic bread and bolognese. It was too much for us to eat. The salad could serve 3-4 ahead of the meal. Everyone was so nice including the concierge. Great, friendly vibe.

The interior is cozy and a little small, with an old-school Italian vibe that feels warm and welcoming. The staff were really friendly and attentive. We tried the Rigatoni Rose pasta, which was a creamy - rigatoni was al dente, and the rose sauce had a rich creaminess and subtle tomato tang, each bite was flavorful, especially with fresh parmesan cheese. We also tried the Spaghetti Pesto which was equally impressive-- fresh, and aromatic, with a pesto that clung to every strand of pasta. For dessert we had the Tiramisu which was light and airy, yet decadently creamy not too sweet or heavy. Just made perfectly. This is my absolute favorite Italian restaurant so far and i would definitely recommend.
Italian comfort food at its best - great flavour, big portions, no frills! We tried the buratta, caesar salad, rigatoni, pesto spaghetti, and chicken parm. The buratta and fresh tomatoes were so light and balanced out the fried dough perfectly. The lightly shredded parm on the salad and pastas were chefs kiss. The pastas were both perfectly al dente. I personally preferred the rigatoni more - it was really flavourful and savory. The chicken parm was solid but the other dishes stood out more. All in all, this meal was great value for the quality and portions. Our server was very friendly. We came mid-day so didn't have to wait in line. I would definitely want to return but I'm not sure if I would wait in a long line to eat again.
WOOAH!! That's what your taste buds will say as soon as you have a bite. Went here with my friend and I'm so glad she picked this place because omg, probably the best Italian food in Toronto! My favourite was the pesto cream - rich, creamy yet super herby. Doesn't make you feel yucky after having it. The calamari was fresh and not oily at all - the marinara sauce was not too acidic. The garlic bread could've been more toasted and garlic-y. Would definitely take my boyfriend here!
A Toronto beloved and favourite, if you ask just about anyone, Sugo lands as one of the top Toronto Italian restaurants to visit. We were in the area and so we had our hearts set out to finally check it out. Sugo is very busy so it can be very hard to find a spot. The wait can be up to an hour at times. Lucky for us there were a few bench seats available so we got seated right away. Note, there is so reservation so you just have to either wait, come early/when they just open or get lucky. The staff are really efficient and attentive and they get you seated prompted though, when a seat becomes available. The food also came out super quickly once we ordered. The restaurant itself if small and has that small diner feel. Sugo is known as an American Italian restaurant and it definitely gets the vibes right. Food-wise, everything was amazing. We got the calamari, gnocchi and spaghetti pesto cream with sugo. The calamari were perfectly crispy and surprisingly not too oily. Paired with the marinara sauce, it was perfect. Of the two pasta dishes, I loved the spaghetti the most, the noodles were cooked just right (al dente) and and sauce was very well balanced with the cream and sugo. The gnocchi was also delicious and so soft that it basically melts in your mouth. They also have a daily special and sometimes use pasta from other famous pasta shops like Famiglia Baldassarre. I'll have to come back again for their rigatoni. Also, we didn't order the tiramisu this time but we've tried it at their sister restaurant Bar Sugo, and it definitely lives up to the hype. Definitely a Toronto gem and worth the visit if you don't mind the wait.
Genuinely so amazing. Price was so good for the amount of food you get. My pasta was HUGE! Pesto was creamy and bright. Got a hugo spritz too which was well done. I would describe this spot as elevated Italian comfort food. First time in Toronto and now I definitely want to go back to get this again!
I've been riding my bike past this place - and noticing the line up - for years, but we finally had a chance to check it out this weekend (during Big On Bloor) and I totally get it. Of course the place is busy, and the wait staff are running, and the music is energetic, and it's a whole vibe. The menu is simple and we all went for the pastas. There was a lasagna with meat sauce (beef, pork, veal) on special and I had that. My my wife had a pesto cream spaghetti and we did a swap. They were both delicious. The lasagna was a delight, deeply cheese-y balanced by the sauce which had a wonderful bright tang. The pesto was extremely moreish, subtle and rich and creamy on first bites but you can't stop eating it. I enjoyed having the two flavours together (go with a close friend or trusted associate). The portions were pretty substantial. We paired it with a house Italian pilsner (made by Indie Alehouse) and it was the perfect drink to go with the pasta. We brought along our two nieces who were in town for the weekend and they both really enjoyed it as well. They were suitably impressed by both the food and the up-beat mood of the place. Considering how busy it was, and that they were also serving to the street side patio, the service was amazing. These guys have it down and they really seem to love what they are doing - you can feel it. So now I understand what the line-up is all about. Will Sugo again. Bravo!
We've been waiting a while to get a chance to visit Sugo, but it just so happened that we were in the area during the day ahead of the dinner rush and there was no wait to get in. This is a walk-in only restaurant (typically 45+ min waiting times) and they take only debit/cash. Sugo is a local favorite for many Torontonians, so it was a great chance to try it for ourselves. Since it is the summer season, they have their roadside patio open for more seating, normally it is only their limited indoor bar and table seating. The staff was attentive and responsive, the food came out pretty quickly, within 15 mins of ordering. What we (2) ordered... - Calamari, was very crispy and fresh, the Aioli and Marinara sauces were great compliments, the Banana Peppers weren't too spicy (when you remove the seeds) - Gnocchi, gnocchi with their house signature sauce, it was extremely pillow-y in texture, the basil and whipped ricotta added a great balance to the sauce - Spaghetti Pesto Cream with Sugo, spaghetti with their house signature sauce, the pesto cream was amazing and was well balanced We finished every bite and scraped the plate clean of the sauce. It was delicious. Although the meal might be "simply", it was masterfully created. Would be back again when they aren't too busy to try their Rigatoni and parms. Although we didn't get their Tiramisu this time, it is very good, as we had the same next door at Bar Sugo.
Delicious food! Large portions, easy to share amongst a group. The server was helpful, telling us how many dishes we'd need for our size. Will definitely be returning!!
Sugo!! one of the most hyped italian restaurants in toronto. Great portions and flavours. I reccomend the rigatoni! I sat at their patio and it's a bit small but it's vibes! The insides are the same, with all tables close to eachother. Pizza is good, but don't like how the pizza crust is burnt. I still have to try their Tiramisu! Very chaotic street wouldn't recommend driving here, but taking transit. And very long waitlist if you do not come early.
Sugo was an awesome restaurant and experience. The wait staff were top notch, answering questions, giving suggestions, and made the birthday celebrations all the merrier! The food was amazing, great Italian food! We had a group meal and had mozzarella sticks, salad, bruschetta, calamari, 2 pastas, and 2 pizzas. The pizza dipping sauces were really good, the green one is especially good! The pasta was al dente, the calamari delicious, and the pizzas were one of the best I've had, with crunchy crust and a bouncy dough. The restaurant had great ambience, with cheerful staff, spacious seating (for the area), and the wood burning stove at the back. Great experience, I would definitely come again! read more
Woah Wowza 10 stars for the service !!! And 10 stars for the food !!! Upon entering at 4 pm on a Wednesday, they were fully packed and the wait list was 30 minutes long But The host was phenomenal, his greeting was friendly, courteous and professional Guided us to visit the strip of stores Then Had us seated in 20 minutes upon returning. I noticed he treated all the clients this way which is a great attitude in the service industry. And then The server, who was also phenomenal. He was welcoming, personable and very friendly with just the right amount of courteous banter. On to the food, it too was amazing. The portions were huge and the flavours were akin to a classic family style Italian restaurant made homemade and authentic by Nonna. I can't say enough of this place. The reason I came was because of a simple google search for the "best" Italian food in Toronto and this place always popped up on all lists. Wowza I agree one of the BEST if not THE BEST Italian food I've ever had. Plus The service put the whipped cream on top of the cake. I can't wait to go back And I whole heartedly recommend visiting this place for any occasion. read more
This place lived up to the hype. We stumbled upon it through ChatGPT after browsing through various options and reading reviews. The enticing descriptions convinced us to give it a try. We arrived at 12 PM on a Saturday afternoon, eager to indulge in lunch. We opted for one of their specials, the fettuccine. Based on the waitress's recommendation, we decided to share the rigatoni, a decision that turned out to be a wise choice. New Yorkers are known for their appetite, and we were prepared for generous portions. However, we were pleasantly surprised by the size of the rigatoni. While we understood that portions can vary outside of New York City, we were still impressed by the substantial serving. The meal was a delightful experience, with authentic flavors and fresh ingredients. We ended our culinary journey with a decadent tiramisu, which transported us straight to Italy. My boyfriend was particularly impressed by the flavors and the creamy texture of the tiramisu. I highly recommend this restaurant, especially if you're looking for a memorable dining experience. Sugo is a very popular small restaurant at Bloor and Lansdowne. Food (4/5) - Pesto Crème Spaghetti - this is a creative looking dish with a very creamy pesto sauce. Pasta cooked well just past al dente. I'm not a white sauce fan tbh and it's quite rich - cheese, cream and butter so heads-up on that part. - Stuffed Peppers - oven roasted banana peppers and veal. Pleasantly surprised that it wasn't all pepper with some stuffing but the other way around... mostly meat! Sugo sauce is very good with perfect balance of tang and taste. I could imagine it being great on any of the dishes. Service (4.5/5) - server was friendly and knowledgeable and checked in appropriately. Water refills quickly. Atmosphere (4/5) - small with maybe 10 tables set close together. Some memorabilia on the walls and fairly clean. Overall (4.25/5) - definitely worth trying and will repeat to try other Sugo sauce dishes. They don't take reservations so be aware this place is lined up often especially on the weekends. read more
So good! We came at an oddish time (3pm?) the wait was shorter than I expected but the place was still bustling! Everything we ordered was so good, we especially enjoyed the pasta. The place is quite cozy. Highly recommend trying this place. I would come back again and try their other dishes read more

amazing from start to finish! we had tried coming here a few times before but the wait was too much for us to handle. this time we planned ahead and there was no wait at all! unfortunately our teslas pet mode stopped working - our server Malcom (who was already amazing) came to our rescue. they moved us to an outside table so my little boy could be with us, the rest of the team were great to, very friendly - even brought us ice water for my little guy! Now let's talk food - amazing from the mozzarella sticks to the chicken parm, to the pastas - i've only had a better rigatoni once and that was at carbone nyc! Amazing service, food and a classic little italy (more ny than toronto) atmosphere - will def return, and maybe next time even wait in line! 100% approved Tj and the rest of my party are in love! read more

One of Toronto's absolute best Italian spots--if you haven't been yet, run! The food is incredible and the portions are huge (definitely enough for two). The service is great and everyone is super friendly. A few things to know before you go: * The Wait: They don't take reservations and there is usually at least a 30-minute wait, so plan accordingly, especially on weekends! * The Setup: They have two locations right next to each other. One is the main restaurant and the other is the bar. * Pizza Lovers: The bar side serves the pizza, but keep in mind they don't do lunch! Everything about both the bar and the restaurant is amazing. -good atmosphere, sat outside and got a table immediately but it's very come and go as they don't do reservations -salty pasta, if you don't like too much salt this isn't for you if you do it's amazing -food came out quick and our server was very nice and gave us good recommendations -we also got the Caesar salad and the meatball which was delicious as well -would come back and try others things like the pesto pasta or the chicken parm -the place has a cool vintage vibe to it which I enjoyed read more
Great place for Italian pasta! The plates are good portion and I think good value. Especially liked the daily special as it was a perfect al dente and very flavourful. Had to wait around 20 minutes for a table on a Saturday 1pm which was not bad at all. This place is full of energy and the server was very friendly - gave a feel of being hosted by friends. If you're in the area and craving some solid pasta, Sugo is definitely worth checking out. I had the Rigatoni and Chicken Parmesan, and both were really tasty. The Rigatoni came heaping with pasta and was super saucy, which I loved. The Chicken Parmesan was huge, but for $19.50, I kinda expected a little more. Still, it tasted great overall. One thing to keep in mind: Sugo is super popular and doesn't take reservations, so during peak times, you're probably looking at a wait of about 1.5 hours. If you can, try to go during off-peak hours to avoid the rush. Overall, Sugo is a great choice for pasta lovers, just be prepared for the wait, and you won't be disappointed by the portions or the flavours! read more

The wait time is quite long on a weekend night so be prepared to wait or chill somewhere else while you wait for them to give you a call. Otherwise the wait is going to be at least 2 hours! Great vibes inside, the staff are friendly and know what they're doing. Food is well portioned, and the pasta was definitely the highlight. read more

I hit up Sugo for my pasta craving and I was so happy we did. Service - excellent, atmosphere - casual, clean and inviting, food - absolutely mouth watering and fresh. Sugo doesn't take reservations however they do write down your name and number to call you back when a table is ready for you. Their seating time estimate for a table of 6 at about 6pm on a Wednesday was about 45 minutes and it was fairly accurate. While you wait, just walk down Bloor st or go around the corner for some pre-meal ice cream at Ruru baked. As soon as we got the call back for our table we were seated promptly. Staff is super kind and welcoming and assisted with any questions we had. They also made sure to check on us from time to time. Food was delicious and fresh. You could taste the ingredients and the pasta was a decently sizeable portion. I ate half my pasta and saved the other half for lunch the next day. The pesto with red sauce was a great balance. Loved every bite. read more

This is a small restaurant near Landsdowne station. But man! The food is delicious. They don't take reservations & I can see why. When we arrived the place was already packed. So we had to be added to the waiting list where we gave our phone number. The wait was estimated to be 20-30 minutes. It was raining so we ducked into Burger Bros across the street for a snack. When we sat down we looked at the menu & decided on garlic bread for the appetizer. I ordered the spaghetti pomodoro (no cheese because I'm dairy intolerant). Hubby ordered the spaghetti bolognese which had lots of cheese on top. The food is delicious & plentiful. I couldn't finish my dish so I'm taking it home. Hubby finished his spaghetti. Our waitress was really nice & so friendly. She was very efficient too. We got our food pretty quickly. We didn't have dessert as we were both full. Also the only desserts they had I can't eat (Tirimisu & Canniloni). But I did buy a jar of their tomato sauce to take home. When we were packing up my leftovers to go our waitress actually gave us a small tirimisu to take home. Which was really nice of her. People come here to eat & then go. The turnaround for tables is quick. Once someone leaves the tables is cleared away & then another party sits down to eat. There was a constant stream of people while we were there. I counted the number of seats & there was only 28. Mostly tables but at the back there is barstool seating. The tables have a red & white checkered table cloth with a plastic square cover on the top to protect it. The walls are decorated in boxing memorabilia. And there's a tv on the side wall. The music was loud so that we had to almost yell to talk. With all the people talking in a small space I was starting to get overstimulated by the time we were getting ready to leave. So I've been to Sugo twice, and neither time has disappointed my appetite. It's nestled on Bloor St just south of Landsdowne station, which means it's very accessible for subway users like myself. The restaurant doesn't take reservations, but the food was worth the wait. The first time I went, we started with their fried calamari, which was sublime. My main was their Pesto Spaghetti with Chicken, and despite its deliciousness, I could not finish it that night! The second time I ate at Sugo, I had their lasagna, which was imbued with cheesy goodness! Occluding with sauce, it almost toppled over my dish because of its sheer size! Needless to say, this was another dish I couldn't finish, though not for lack of trying! Sugo is a cozy, intimate space that due to its popularity, fills up quickly. With a few tables outside, patio dining is an option if the weather is nice enough, which it was that day. The regular dishes & specials were written on chalkboard above the kitchen, as well as separate menus for the tables. A flatscreen was against the wall, but didn't dominate the atmosphere of the place, as the food and the staff reminded its patrons why they were there in the first place! If you are hungry and want to fill up on some great Italian-American food, this is the place! It is always busy, so if you should go 20 minutes to an hour in advance depending on the day,to get in line for a spot! The food is the star here, with great value as you get big portions of pasta that taste amazing. You can share one plate (~$20) between two people or solo if you're hungry Have tried the regular Spaghetti as well as the All'amatriciana. Both were great, and come out piping hot with a topping of shaved cheese. The sauce is superb and goes well with everything including the garlic bread ($7)! Only cash/debit only which is a slight inconvenience. But will definitely be back to try other dishes like the pesto spaghetti and calamari! read more

You can't make a reservation ahead of time. Expect a bit of line up no matter which day in the week it is, but it totally worth it! The food is absolutely fresh and tasty. A true Italian food in the heart of Toronto! read more
