This was amazing!!!!! My husband and I stumbled upon this place while we were waiting for our phones to finish updating at the Sprint store next door. I'm so glad our phones were taking so long, this restaurant was a treasure!!! I had never had sushi from a conveyor belt before! This was AMAZING! You can also order off the menu as well. Prices are extremely reasonable. The staff is SO nice. And the food is excellent! Is it candle-light dinner, fine dining? No! Tried dining here 2x hoping the first time was just a bad night but it was still bad. Place was dirty, staff was not friendly....The presentation of the sushi is the worst I have seen ....the wasabi is not wasabi its some paste with water added it appear....the sushi plate in general all looked poor in the way they are made and cut and portion size. It's what you would expect from conveyor belt sushi, it's filled the perfect niche in Corvallis for decent sushi for a decent price. Compared to the places in downtown Corvallis which are a bit pricey for a college town. I can tell this place will be packed during the school year, just for the prices. I really didn't expect a lot from this place considering they opened less than a week ago. The Oregon roll and Mt. Hood roll were pretty good. And as for the review that said that the nigiri was bad because of rice flavor and no wasabi... What did you expect for $1.85 for two pieces? This is my go to spot for sushi in Corvallis! I miss the dine in experience but getting to go is also good. I always order way more than i should but thats because they have so many options. I personally like getting their rolls but their nigiri seared salmon and creamy scallops are really good. The price is worth it because its higher quality than expected at a typical conveyor belt sushi olace. They also have a great roasted tea if you ever get the chance to try it. They're open pretty late even during covid, so if you miss other restaurants closing time then you can definitely order from here. (9:30 pm closing) In terms of covid practices, they have a table set up right at the door, hand sanitizer, and a plastic sheet seperating you and the workers. I had never been to a place with a sushi conveyer belt, and for my first time, this place was quite enjoyable. Although not too small but not too large, Sugoi brings the conveyer belt sushi to Corvallis in a great way. They have various rolls and items moving along the conveyer belt, and if you don't see what you're looking for, you can always order through the waitress and ask them for what you want, but I must say that I do enjoy the thrill of seeing what is there and picking it off of the belt. The rolls typically come in a half roll, and the prices aren't too bad when you break it down, but it can get expensive if you get carried away and get one plate after another, which is what I did my first time. The sushi tasted great and I had no complaints whatsoever. Definitely swing by for a visit if you are wanting a quick meal you can grab and eat, or enjoy with a group of friends or the family. read more

Having never done the conveyor belt sushi dining, this was a new experience for me. You wait for something that looks good to roll around, try and match it to a description on a menu in hand or just go for it and hope for the best before it disappears. Then add up your plates at the end, price based on plate color. The price ends up about the same as if you were to order specific specialty rolls from the chef. With the belt system you get the opportunity to sample a couple pieces of several rolls, but you miss out on freshness a little bit... not the best sushi I've ever had, but pretty solid overall. Large Sapporos were $6.50, those were the most expensive part of the night. There was some confusion about seating when we first got in; there are seats all around the main event in the middle. Busy, busy, busy on a Monday... but we didn't have to wait too long. read more

When my party and I walked in, we were told to sit at the bar. We went to sit down and we're told not to sit in the spot we chose because the conveyor belt didn't reach that far. We were then directed to sit in a dirty spot. After the awkward seating experience, we were hoping for the rest to improve. We got a few plates, the food was decent. Definitely not fresh and small portions but if you get the cheap plates it's not too bad. We ordered spring rolls, and some were put on the belt quickly to be snatched by the people sitting next to us. We asked again and it took 15 minutes to get two spring rolls. I went in last night around 8 o clock 2/13 and me and my friends were really hungry and there was nothing on the belt at all, they asked us if we wanted to order anything or just eat off the belt, looking at the belt obviously we wanted to order something so we did. After about 45 minutes of nothing but water refills someone ended up leaving and it didn't look like they had but one plate. My group was honestly about to do the same but I kid you not, the entire staff stopped their duties to chase this kid and scream their heads off in the parking lot. Needless to say we didn't eat anything either, Please get it together. I don't believe there were any kids present but the main server girl yelled the f word like 6 times and we could all hear it in the store, and apparently it was over $7 of sushi, I would've said it was dinner and a show but there was no dinner just the show. read more

Service was good. I walked in, ordered for take out, and walked out 5 minutes later with my food. The food however was abysmal. The rice was dry and crumbly instead of soft and sticky like sushi rice should be. It was obvious they skimped on the rice as well, as it was missing from section of the rolls. The portions were very small and not worth $13. There was no flavor to the fish, and instead it tasted fishy like it was frozen and then thawed (the nigiri especially had this problem). There was no dine-in option, so the restaurant was empty except for the employees. You would think with less pressure of dine-in customers there would be a higher quality to the food than normal, but instead the quality is below gas station sushi. Do not give your money to Sugoi Sushi. Go to the nearest gas station instead. read more

I really enjoyed my experience! I was a fan of Genki Sushi in Hawaii before I moved to the mainland & this resembles it a lot. I love the convenience of the conveyer belt because what you're craving just may be on it & you don't have to wait for your order to be placed & fulfilled. Everything we ordered during our visit was awesome! The flavor/spice was just right. The nigiri we ordered was a perfect temperature as well. Some restaurants serve the fish too cold to my liking where you can't even enjoy the natural taste of the fish. My niece even enjoyed herself an udon & she said it was better than any other udon she's had in a while. The prices are very fair with no sushi plate going over $3.90. The plates are color coded so that you know what each one costs. Just a helpful tip, but nothing that sways my rating, when we rolled in it wasn't busy at all. However, the wait time for us to get our food back to us was kind of long. If you think you can't satisfy yourself with what's on the belt I suggest coming here when you're not in a rush. Also, they do not give booths to those in a party of two or solo. They only have 3-4 booths available & they reserve it for larger parties. It's hard to give a generalized rating for a restaurant because there are just so many factors that come into play. I give four stars to Sugoi Sushi for these reasons: 1. Convenience - Being a belt sushi restaurant, you can expect to be seated quickly and almost as quickly be able to snag a plate off of the line. The restaurant is also located off of the busiest business street in town, also near the busiest yet most dangerous set of intersections in town (circle, 9th, and the highway). 2. Pleasant staff - I've mainly only interacted with the serving staff, from what I have experienced though, they are all happy and more than capable of creating a nice dining experience for anyone who walks in the door. 3. Food quality - For what you're paying for, I absolutely feel that you are getting as much or even more than what you are paying for. The fish isn't mushy which is the first thing that turns me away from sushi. Second, there isn't too much rice, which is great. A lot of places over compensate with rice to provide a more filling meal. I am not a fan of that method. Which brings me to my next point... 4. Good rice - Not everyone may know this, but the most important factor of good sushi is having the correct rice. Sugoi seems to do a nice job at this. If you were to compare it to a sandwich, imagine the rice being a loaf of bread. It makes all the difference. 5. I get take out often, have never had a messed up order and I've never had to wait more than about 20 minutes and that was even during their busiest time of service when they literally have people almost out the door waiting to be seated. Negative aspects... The menu has been updated, so don't pay attention to the mussels as an appetizer. They have since removed that but have a lot of copies of the old menu to distribute so that is why you may still see it. Don't be mad at them for not wanting to waste paper! That's really all I have to say negatively about this place. If you have to wait for a seat, you shouldn't be impatient because it's worth the brief wait. Obviously this isn't a premium place to find sushi, but for what it is worth and for what they offer and for the price they offer it at... I definitely recommend. read more

It is fairly large, with the conveyor belt working the whole room. The sushi was fresh and delicious and our son loved his California rolls! The sushi is ok- well enough for cheaper sushi. But my main problem was how many times they do not follow instructions. I have an intolerance to chilis- it makes me really sick. So I always ask for no spicy mayo- but 8 times out of 10, they still put spicy mayo on the rolls (even on rolls where it wasn't in the description). read more

I've been spoiled by having grown up in coastal Southern California where there is plenty of good sushi, so I am probably a bit more critical than the average person. But at this place, the sushi was not fresh at all. The sashimi was okay, the poke bowl side was bland and disappointing. There were some dishes still spinning around the conveyor belt that I was afraid I would have gotten food poisoning from if I had decided to eat them. This place is amazing, the huge conveyor belt is pretty awesome. We always get good service and the owner always chats and remembers us when we go in. My wife is the sushi person in our family, but they have donburri bowls that are perfect for our son and I. Reasonably priced and they prepare them exactly as we want them. "A Tsunami of an experience" This is the worse sushi I think I have ever eaten. My raw fish was completely warm and all the chefs had no idea how long the rolls were on the track for. When I ordered a roll or two to be made for me instead of grabbing off the track they just grabbed off the track and tried giving that roll to me... At first when it opened this was the spot, they got big slabs of salmons, over time they got smaller. Now with the new menu up, they finally got rid of spicy ahi and spicy salmon donburi bowls and added a few new items such as the salmon Kama. The prices as changed as well. The one thing that really disappointed me knowing this place was so good and I loved it till today. Had to put an end to it. The salmon Kama I ordered was darker than Katsu or breaded chicken or pork. I eat a lot of fish so I know how to fish out the meat. At the crunchy first bite, it chips the back of my tooth and I reached into my mouth to pull out a chipped piece of my tooth. Higher a real cook or at least a skilled one. It's so simple to cook salmon fried and bones from fish has never caused me to ever feel tension on my teeth. Debating if a lawsuit is suitable for this situation still at the moment knowing teeth are not cheap. read more

Never been to a conveyor belt sushi restaurant before this. One of my favorite places in town. Its not cheap by any means, but I do like that you can see and select what you like. Very casual atmosphere. Two tv's are set up on opposite walls. Wasn't expecting to enjoy sushi while watching Grease. Couple tips: if you know you want something in particular, order it the minute you sit down. Wait staff generally does not check in on you after you first come in. Also, because it's sushi, go when it's busy. I've watched Chef crank out sushi on the belt with no one picking much up, so it sits and rotates through the store for a while. read more

I really miss eating there. we started going there when they first opened and invited many of our friends to go there. we ate there at least twice a week. then severe health issues slowed us down, but it was still my "comfort food" location. Then Covid struck and we stopped eating out. A while back, we started going again. Because of ongoing health issues, my spouse and I cannot enjoy a meal at the "bar", and opted for a table. However the wait staff insisted that there have to be at least 3 people to sit at a table. ( Only 2 Long time, regular customers aren't enough) We are both disabled seniors. The last time we went there - a few weeks ago, they were busy, but there was 1 table available ( the others were at various states of completing their meals) We were told we couldn't sit at that table because a larger group MIGHT come in. We decided we would no longer patronize Sugoi since they don't appreciate regular customers. Besides there are SO MANY other restaurants in town that DO appreciate us and have good food AND good service. read more

The sushi is ok, at lunchtime it was fresh. Very hard to know what's on the plates, you're supposed to look at the photo menu and match the food. Problem is that the photos are microscopic and the food often doesn't look like the photos! I was excited to learn of a new sushi restaurant in Corvallis. I will have to go back and try them again since this was the first day they were open. Perhaps they will get up to speed with a few weeks experience, and I will revise this review for the better. If they don't improve, I won't waste my time or money there again. Sushi is all about the rice. The rice was just OK. The rice balls for the nigiri were small, and the chef does not add any wasabi. It seemed very salty. To be sure, the serving size of sake nigiri (salmon) was large, the fish itself wasn't that good. I kept waiting for a hamachi (yellowtail) to come around, but none ever did. The maguro (tuna) was acceptable, but not really very good. The rolls were just OK. The eel and avocado roll was good. She oshinko roll was very salty. It seems almost ALL of the rolls are made with surimi -- fake crab. Some vegetable-only rolls don't have fake crab, but I didn't see any basic rice and fish rolls or rice, fish, and vegetable rolls without surimi. They also seem to put mayonnaise in all the rolls that have surimi. The miso was good. The staff was friendly, and given that it was their first day, they were pretty good at being available when needed. I found it interesting that whoever put the lettering on their door did it on the wrong side. You can read the hours of operation from the inside, not outside. Oops. read more

The sushi rolls were decent--nothing special--but we were served chicken potstickers that were raw in the middle. I was ready to not like this place, simply because I assumed it was a chain (nestled in with a bunch of other chains - Walmart, Buffalo Wild Wings, Panda Express, etc.). I couldn't have been more wrong. They are not a chain, and are employee owned. The prices are reasonable, the service is great, the food is good... And I have been there twice this week. I really hope they do well, as it is my new favorite sushi place in town. The salmon and tuna were delicious, and there were good size portions of both. The hot tea is of good quality. We used to come here so often, the sushi used to be so good and the chefs were so friendly and the waitresses were so attentive, it's gone so downhill, I don't know what happened to management but they seemed to have done a complete turn around with the staff. We don't go in anymore because of this, but we still used to order to go very often.
