honestly the sushi is good but the service is absolutely horrible. looked like one lady was doing her job doing online orders, checking people out, and helping customers but the younger looking employee with light brown hair or blonde quite literally just sat down next to her friends and talked the entire time we were there. we don't even know who our waitress was because of how unprofessional these employees were. we were over charged by a couple plates because the lady up front looked over worked and tired from picking up everybody else's slack. don't think it was her fault but they're making the good employees look bad. do better management. read more

Love it! I have been a huge sushi fan all my life, and probably been to over 50 sushi places. I went about a week after opening, so there are some minor things that need to be changed. The price guide/menu has both blue and black printed black, but you can guess which is which or just wait until it comes out. If you see something on the menu that you aren't seeing on the conveyer belt, just ask and they will make it for you! The sushi chefs were working hard the whole time we were there cranking out sushi. There was a good variety, and their rolls had just enough of a twist to be unique. My boyfriend ordered the salmon skin roll, one of my favorites, and they fried the salmon skin fresh to put in the roll. There was a decent amount of meat on the skin, but it had a great flavor. I disagree with the other poster that said the salmon wasn't good. The salmon is FANTASTIC, and tastes very fresh. My only complaint is that I wish the rolls were slightly larger. For the price, you really can't complain. I love places like this because you really get to try all the different rolls you want, without having to order a whole order. Maybe I am not the best person to be rating Sugoi. I am 100% not a sushi fan. My wife is however and she had been begging me to take her here for a while now. The reason they get 3 stars is two-fold. First, it really bums me out when there really isn't anything for me to eat at a sushi restaurant. Sugoi falls into that category. Sushi is one of those things that people either love or hate, and so I feel like it is especially important for sushi restaurants to have good options for people that aren't into it. So far the only one we have found that has really good non-sushi Japanese options is in California :( The thing is we cannot be the only couple that is divided on the issue, and I feel bad that she has to twist my arm to get me to take her. Secondly, my wife honestly wasn't blown away with their rolls. We drove 30 miles past a few other sushi places to try this place out (she was really excited because they have the conveyer belt style sushi) and the food wasn't quite as good as the novelty. The nice thing about this place is that it is pretty inexpensive. Total for both of us was only $15. And the food is already prepared, you are just picking what looks good off the belt as everything cruises by you. So if you are looking for an affordable option or need a quick lunch AND you like sushi this could be a great place to try out. It is a college town and affordable options are key for most the population. It did seem like this place was a local favorite for the students and they packed that place pretty quickly in the time we were there. To the owners, I really hope you guys add some more non-sushi plates. And I think it would be nice to have some of them on the belt too so that I don't have to special order my food from the waiter. read more

So excited that we have this sushi place in Corvallis! The price is great and the service very friendly. I would argue that selection is a bit limited...but they are so gracious that you could request any item and they'll happily prepare it for you. The belt system is a lot of fun and stacking plates keep me accountable The wasabi at each place setting is brilliant, as I'm never given enough in traditional settings. If you're in a rush, there is rarely a wait. If you're wanting a leisurely lunch, there's never pressure to get moving. I recommend this without reservation! It's quick and easy. But very basic. Very basic. Most of the rolls look/taste similar, which is pretty good quality wise and definitely more filling and affordable than going to any other sit-down sushi restaurant in Corvallis. It's also open later than Sada Sushi or Aomatsu. I generally stick to the same couple of dishes. You get seated usually pretty fast if you're not there during the rush hour. When I entered the building it was very busy during lunch hour. There wasn't any seating available right away so we waited about 10 minutes for 2 spots to open up. After we were sat they got our drink orders and it was an enjoyable experience with dishes presented on a rotating belt of sorts. We were able to find most of the options we wanted on the belt but when we ordered miso soup and two other options off the menu we waited several minutes for them to appear. I had to flag down the server who took our order and inform him we didnt recieve the items we ordered yet. He gathered and delivered the items for us and the rest of the visit went smoothly. The overall price was very reasonable totalling 23 dollars for two poeple to get completely full. Not bad at all for sushi. read more

I've got mixed feelings about this place. Food is always delicious, but the staff are quite rude. One waitress with long golden hair is not friendly. If you are a group of 2 and she says you can take a booth, DECLINE. If they have a rush of people, she will make it her GOAL to get out out of that booth. I eat here when I'm at college for sushi. They have a nice variety, but the taste can fall short sometimes.

My fiancé and I come here all the time, every time we get sushi it's this place. But tonight was the worst $15 we ever spent. I'm giving the benefit of the doubt that they're just short staffed on waiters/waitresses but come on. We were there for thirty minutes and the waitress gave us our water the last ten minutes we were there and then said "We don't have much out on the conveyer bell so I suggest you order something" before we could order anything she left. Before she gave us our water, she was wiping around us and bussing. I have work experience as a waitress so I feel as though I have a say in this, the customer comes first. She had no problem making sure the couple right next to us got their orders written out, even checking in on them. She was a wonderful waitress to them but to us she constantly avoided us until she had to buss and then only asked if we wanted something to drink because we were talking about how thirsty and hungry we were. Paid the bill and left. The only reason why this isn't a one star is because every other time we've been there it was amazing. Even when we came by the day before Valentine's Day! Sugoi is a decent place to go if you want a quick, cheap sushi meal. Though, honestly, the quality is probably not that much more impressive than what you can get at, say, Market of Choice. The last time I went here, I had a role where the salmon had some bone left in it. I know this isn't a really glamorous sushi bar, but bones are the last thing I want in my sushi. Aside from that one instance, I've thought the food was okay. Not amazing, but not terrible. As far as the service, it's a lot like the food: not mind-blowing, but not terrible. With waitresses, it's either difficult to flag them down, or they are being a little too attentive. I wouldn't recommend Sugoi Sushi if you're looking for a really excellent sushi experience. I feel a bit guilty about only giving this new spot three stars, but here's why: I stopped in yesterday after my nail tech, Jimmy, recommended it. It was about 1:00 p.m. on a Saturday and very busy. No one greeted me at the door nor was there a sign to indicate that I should wait for a seat at the conveyor belt, so I seated myself. It was only five minutes later that I realized one of the two waitresses should have seated me. Luckily I'm not a sushi novice, so I studied the menu and began looking on the belt for some nice sashimi. However, the only pieces on the belt seemed to be salmon nigiri. I grabbed one. I used no wasabi or soy to flavor because I wanted to gauge the salmon freshness and the quality of the rice. While the salmon slice was thick and plump, and tasted wonderfully fresh (no fishy flavor), the rice was just sticky plain rice. I tasted no delicate intricacies of the chef. But then again, what did I expect from a conveyor belt? Encouraged by the quality of the salmon, I ordered tuna nigiri. Not worrying about the rice any longer, I found the tuna to not be so fresh. It also had a slight chemical taste. Maybe it had been rinsed in chlorine or other bacteria fighting agent? The next nigiri I tried was red snapper, off the belt. Again, less fresh than the salmon and not really worth it. Stick with the salmon! So next I ordered eel (Unagi) from the chef. It was flavorful, and perfectly braised. I tried the spicy tuna roll from the belt, but the roll pieces were very loose and there was no cucumber or other veggie inside. Also, if there was "spice" inside the roll, it was only because I added wasabii, sauce, and ginger after I realized the first piece was not so flavorful. I tried five dishes altogether, and it cost $13.60 for lunch. Not exactly cheap. If I had completely eaten from the belt, I could have cut that cost in half. But as another reviewer pointed out, most of the rolls had fake crab and mayo in them. Not a fan at all of surimi. Ick. I liked the service (once I got it), as everyone was polite. The pieces that I ordered directly from the chef were made quickly and there was basically no wait at all for my special orders, even though the house was crowded. I will probably be back again, to see if things improve and if there is more variety added to the belt. I like having a place to go grab a quick lunch and feel this was a step up (or two) from supermarket sushi found at Market of Choice (although their spicy tuna roll rocks the house). read more

I come to Sugoi pretty often since it's the only cheap conveyor belt sushi option in Corvallis. However the service kind of sucks. When you dine in and order sushi, it can take anywhere from 10-25 minutes even for the simplest thing. Sometimes we don't get our orders until we're ready to leave, and the servers even have to ask us if we still want it. Also most of the workers, especially waiters/waitresses seem like they hate their jobs. Not very personable or even a smile.... they also don't come around very often to fill waters or take orders. We always have to flag someone down. If I were rating on service I'd give it 2 stars, but the third is since their sushi is pretty tasty for the price, if you know what to get. My favorites are the seared salmon (had a bone in it once though), Vegas roll, and spicy tuna hand roll. Basically if you're looking for a quick, cheap sushi fix, Sugoi is the place to go. read more

First off I come here often and They definitely are the economy sushi restaurant of Corvallis but I am going to have to start changing my mind on that statement as the prices have been steadily increasing. The service is mediocre and the chefs are rarely deserving of tips. Specifically on custom Orders. I'm only writing this review due to today's disappointment when I ordered a chefs choice 12 piece sashimi plate and the brought me 12 pieces of salmon? I have never had that happens but it is chefs choice and I ordered it so I ate it. The waitress came by and asked how my food was and so I mentioned that it was good but this was odd. She told me and I quote "Yeah, I don't know why any one would ever order chefs choice". Lol. There is an expectation of variety in that plate. Plus you pay 14$. For 12 pieces I could have bought 14 pieces of salmon sushi for the same price tossed the rice and had 2 more sashimi slices to eat. I really liked this place. It was fast, convenient, a good value and had really friendly prompt service! All you have to do is walk right in, sit down and start grabbing plates as they go by on the conveyor. The selection of sushi was basic but respectable. I just had the worst experience here. There was no sushi on the track, literally everyone was looking for food because they were so far behind. My order took forever and they brought the wrong thing. I didn't bother to ask for the right thing because they were so far behind Then when I went up to pay for my bill and told him I had two reds and a green, they had to send someone back to make sure I was telling the truth. When I told him that my experience hadn't been that great and that I thought it was rude to question what I was saying when they hadn't delivered the right order and people could not get enough food, the women said she hoped I would come back soon and "hopefully" have a better experience. This place has no sense of good customer service whatsoever. The sushi plate I got from the conveyor belt had a long strand of hair immersed in the food (which hair found in my food does not agree with my stomach well), so I told the lady who made the sushi that, and without a word just took the plate, walked away, came back with another one and mumbled "sorry." Sorry? I can't believe she expected me to pay for another one and did not say a word. I'm not sure if she was embarrassed about it or something, but that is NO way to react and treat a customer after a hair has been found in one's food. There was no reassurance that a hair wouldn't be found in another dish again. Also, the sushi is barely decent and overpriced for what you get. The plates range from 1.35 to almost $4, and the expensive plates only have two pieces and they are small.
