TL; DR: Great experience, thrifted size 12 dress tailored down to size 6/8 for $43, final total! I dropped off my dress 5/20 and picked up 6/18, I was in no rush. The changing rooms have nice mirrors, but the curtains don't close particularly well. This doesn't bother me, I am not particularly shy. I bought the dress on sale for $15, it is a mini dress made of a cotton blend (maybe?) and a lining. It was all tailored perfectly for me for $43! That's a great deal in my book! Suki and her dog, who remains securely behind a little pet gate, were lovely and very polite. Upon picking up, I asked if I could take the hanger my dress was on, and lamented how I need to purchase more hangers for my closet. She then produced a whole pile of hangers and invited me to take them! I was going to decline, fearing they would be wire hangers, but they were all very sturdy plastic! If I could give a 0 I would .. I brought in Chef pants with the string and that I tried to do and she returned them to me charging me $30 for the same thing that I gave her. DO NOT USE THIS ALTERATION PLACE! Please take this as a warning. I had to go back 4 times for her to simply hem and tighten the straps on my bridesmaids dress. After I initially asked for a hem and strap tighten she wanted to take it in on the bust and then when I came back two weeks later it didn't hook. She then blamed me for gaining 3 inches in my bust and that's why it didn't fit (how is that biologically possible?) AND she tried to charge me for it. I was extremely offended that she blamed my "weight gain" on her improper measurements. I'm extremely displeased and got up charged for poor quality work. This was the worst experience I've ever had. In general I think alterations are insanely expensive in the U.S. costing as much the garment of purchase. I usually sew my own clothes if they are some alteration that can go unnoticed. We have been to Suki's on two occasions, mainly to hem my husband's pants. And, the charges have been the same and the job well done. The hemming is always neat and professional. This time, I went in with a traditional attire of mine. Georgette sleeves that needed a very neat stitch in through its translucent fabric. They did a great job. I wanted to also tuck in the dress but the total was costing more than I was willing to pay, although honestly reasonable. Here is what I appreciate- she pinned the clothing on me, looked at the material and suggested where the stitching would be most neat at best. She quoted me the price and then she was reasonable and considerate when I hesitated. When I suggested altering just the sleeves not the other adjustments, she was very nice about me changing my mind. But that she handled my traditional garment with such care, I am glad to know a place as such exists. The quotes were reasonable. Customer service was commendable. P.S: To South asians, she altered the sleeves of my kameez for $10. Knowing how sensitive materials and fittings for south asian clothes can be, if you are look for a reliable place, I recommend Suki's. read more

Pretty disappointed with this place. First time experience: I brought in jogger pants with a red side stripe and snap buttons on the side of the legs. I was told it would be ready in a week (it was a 3" hem job). First of all, I had to call and ask if the pants were ready on Thursday (a day before they told me they'd be ready) and they said they're ready, which was great because it was a day early. At the same time... why wouldn't you call your client and let them know their item is ready? Anywho.. I show up to pick them up and she hands them to me. I was so utterly disappointed.. not only was the stitch crooked but there were now a bunch of little snags in my pants and a pen mark!! And she still charged me $15 full price, even after admitting that she "tried the best she could" and that "it didn't really fit in the machine." I would have rather her called me and said there was nothing she could do rather than mess up the bottom of my new pants. Maybe this was a difficult job? But I'm shocked people used this place for wedding dresses.. I would not do that. These pants were $70 and now an extra $15 to get them hemmed... Please refer to photos. First time ever having something altered and it was a lovely experience! My belt loops had broken on my Levi's, so not the most intricate job I would imagine. I dropped them off and got them a week later, which I believe is their standard wait time which I personally didn't mind. Both women I interacted with were so kind and helpful! They lied about the price. A couple weeks ago I called and ask the price to have 2 items hemmed. I was told it is $15 per item. I dropped the items off and was told to pick them up in 2 weeks. I just picked the items up and the price was $70 on the ticket plus tax. I said that is not what I was told when I called. I repeatedly stated I was told $15 per item and I would not have agreed to use their services if had been told the true price from the beginning. She just shrugged and said "we would go out of business if we charged $15". I looked at her and said I was told $15. She finally admitted the starting price is $15. I then said well that is not what I was told when I called. Can you at least adjust the price of $70. She refused. I will never use their services again due to their dishonesty. read more

What an AMAZING store. I've been to many tailors in the past few years as my wardrobe has (somewhat) gotten snappier...I haven't been to one as great at Suki's: Alterations: Prices will probably vary with garment but I usually pay ~ $30 to take in a jacket and $20 to shorten the sleeves and $15 to hem pants. Everything is done well, never had problems with wrong alterations or abnormal looking changes. Things are usually done very speedily in 1-2 weeks. Service: Amazing. They go up and above beyond making sure they are doing what you want (ie I feel totally comfortable taking in an unaltered blazer and asking what I need done bc I know they won't tell me to get unnecessary stuff done). I've even brought in a ripped seam on a shirt and they've fixed that too on the spot. The place has a small family feel and you'll leave feeling well taken care of. Value: Hard to beat prices for hard to beat service. So great value! Summary: Come to Suki's for any and everything that you need altered. You will be well treated and given the best care. Horrible experience. They are lazy and rude. They refused to stitch up a plunging neckline to make it more modest. They begrudgingly agreed to add 2 hooks but placed the 2nd hook in such a way that there was a gaping hole in the dress which defeated the point of the hooks. They also, didn't have the 2nd hook done or the slit stitched up when I showed up for pickup. They also were very rude when I was there getting measured. If I could give this place 0 stars I would. I brought my dress there and they told me my dress would be ready in a week. So a week later (2 days before my prom) I go to pick it up. They seemed shocked that it wasn't ready and told me to come back the next day (now 1 day before prom). I get the dress and they told me it was finished but didn't have time to try it on. I get home and there is pins that cut me, the bottoms isn't even sewed together, literally not what I asked for at all. I have friends that love the Sukis on Old Hickory so avoid this one. read more

I do not often write reviews. Bought a brand new dress in to have zipper fixed. Had never been, read okay reviews, but figured just for a zipper, I'd try it out. Returned to pick up the dress and it had a large stain right in the middle of the dress. I asked about it, they vehemently denied it, blamed it on me and could not have been more rude. Not what customer service is about. Will return to West End where they are incredibly kind, competent and careful. Loved this place until now. I use to always tell friends to come here, NOT anymore. Had fitting and said things would be finished by Friday, mentioned I wanted certain things fixed over others IF things could not be finished in time (which didn't happen). Called Friday to double check pick up time. Drove to pick it up at closing time --She called my home number 10 minutes before the pick up time and of course I am already there. Was told to wait an hour to receive items (So I waited in the parking lot/missing family dinner.). Came in at 7 and she had only fixed 4 of the10 items. She was unable to find my other items, which freaked me out thinking they were gone forever, eventually they where found. Overall, I wish I was compensated for all these issues. I had dropped off my bridesmaids dress 2 weeks ago and when I did I had told the woman (not suki) that I wanted it a certain length..I had even pointed exactly where I wanted the dress to end and I said over and over and over how I did not want my shoes to show in the dress because when my mother dropped off her mother of the bride dress there and they cut hers too short also. So I go in to try it on and it was the exact length I didn't want! I even said I wasn't happy with it and it wasn't what I wanted and Suki didn't even apologize or anything, instead she just swiped my card to make sure she got paid. So great to work with! Being a wonderful procrastinator, I tend to bring my things in at the last minute. Most recently, it was a bridesmaid dress and Suki had it done in just a few days. When I went back to pick up the dress, it was a bit tighter than expected (in the wake of a big weekend) and I asked Suki if she could let it out just a bit. When I needed my Jenny Yoo bridesmaid dress hemmed in less than three weeks I Yelped & found Suki. I was greeted when I walked in the door. I tried on the dress, Suki marked the floor length hem line, & I was finished. She also helped me in & out of the dress as I needed assistance with the zipper. Suki's Alterations offers two changing rooms, a platform area with 3D mirrors, & sewing stations with a multitude of threads & fabrics. I called two days in advance to make sure my dress would be ready for pickup on the day promised since I had to make a flight & it was ready before then. I did not have an opportunity to try on the dress until the day of the wedding and I am pleased to say that the dress was the perfect length. I was able to walk confidently without a fear of tripping or falling during the wedding ceremony or reception. I have used Suki's for years and the work has always been good - they are not friendly but they are very competent. Unfortunately, the not friendly took a turn to rudeness, which is not acceptable regardless of one's skills. I stopped by to leave two pairs of pants to be hemmed. Suki was assisting a bride-to-be and her mother. She saw me come in but did not speak to me or acknowledge my presence in any way, nor did the seamstress in the back who also saw me. After 5 minutes of being ignored I interrupted them and asked if I should come back. She seemed surprised that I spoke to her and mumbled something about now not being a good time. Clearly not. I said that was good to know. Needless to say I will not be back. Anyway, turns out that Nicholson Cleaners who picks up and delivers my drycleaning will hem the pants. read more

As a bride, one of the most stressful and nerve wracking experiences is leaving your wedding dress with someone to alter it. To all my brides out there, make your life less stressful. Don't take you dress to Suki. First appointment: everything was great! Suki said she could take in my dress at the bust and waist with no problem. The bustle was going to be tricky, but she would figure it out. The length wouldn't be touched until I brought my shoes back. She didn't pin my dress anywhere, but she's the expert. See you in a month! Second appointment: chaos. The day before the appointment, Suki calls to ask ME if my appointment is the next day. I tell her yes, and she responds with "oh." That makes you feel good. Especially when you're driving six hours from another state for your appointment. I put my dress on, and it won't zip. Suki nearly breaks my ribs by getting the top to hook then nearly busts the zipper to zip it up. I tell her I can't breathe. She asks me if I have gained weight... I tell her she took in way too much at the bust, and, in fact, I have lost weight since my last visit. She rolls her eyes at me. She says I had to have gained weight, and all the alterations took hours and hours to complete. I tell her my bridal portraits are in one month, and I have to have the dress by then. No exceptions. On my way out the door, she tells me to let her know if there are any fluctuations in my body between now and my next visit. Third appointment: disastrous. I walk in, and Suki points me toward my fitting room. I pull back the curtain, and the wrong dress is hanging there. I tell her this. She says, "Oh. What's your name?" That's comforting. I tell her, and she finds my dress hanging on the rack. This time, the waist fits, but the bust is entirely too big. As in, falling down. The hem is too short in the front, and the bustle still isn't finished. I come out of the dressing room and point out these issues to Suki. She says the bust is fine. That's how I wanted it because I told her to take out all the alterations. She then said the bustle was impossible to fix. The hem was fine. I said all of this had to be fixed because I had my photos tomorrow. She acted as if I had never told her this before. Suki asked if I could get the dress tomorrow afternoon. No, because the photos are tomorrow. Today is the only option. She tells us to come back before closing, and she'll try to have the hours of work finished. We come back at 5:30 when the store closes at 6. Suki is helping someone in front of me, and so we wait. She then turns to me and says, "I haven't even touched your dress since you left this morning." No apology. No explanation. Just attitude. After the person in front of us has been helped, we tell Suki we will be taking the dress and not bringing it back. She has had the dress for two months, and it still isn't finished. Suki tells us to bring the dress back after photos for her to finish. I tell her that I absolutely will not be coming back to her store. I will pay my bill and not return. She then says my bill is $330. When I ask her what in the world that is for, she says it is for the hem. The hem that is too short? We go back and forth for 10 minutes, and she will not apologize or budge on her cost. Since she is holding my dress hostage, I pay the bill and leave the store. I go to another seamstress who tells me the hem should have been no more than $150. This is the worst experience I have ever had with a business, much less the owner of a business. Save yourself time, worry, and dignity. Avoid Suki at all costs. read more

I had Suki alter some suits for me and they were done in a timely manner. I had shipped some suits in from Thailand and she was able to slim and taper the pant legs. She was also able to add vents to my jackets and shortened the sleeves even though the cuffs had functional buttons. I was pretty amazed since some tailors in the Nashville area scoffed at these requests. Will definitely return. read more

I have been going there for years, even before the current couple owned the place. They are the nicest people. If your experience was poor, perhaps it is due to the language barrier.
