STEER CLEAR! My brother is getting married November 4 and bridesmaid dresses tend to be large in the chest for me. When i asked her to take in the top she thought that meant only remove the pads. I paid $105 for this and when i called she said she would fix for an extra $45 but that's what we originally discussed so i am not going to pay more. She does not stand by her work and clearly has no customer service skills. Over charged just to be a scam. I will never go back. I needed holes in two delicate tops repaired, straps on a jumpsuit shortened, and some kind of closure for a dress that gaped open in the back. I found the prices incredibly reasonable: the hole repairs were $8 each for instance. All of my garments turned out great! Moreover, the owner/tailor is completely forthright about the prices. When I explained the gaping dress situation, she said she could attach 3 hook closures, which would be $21 since they cost $7 each. When I tried the dress on for her, she said two should be fine & it would be $14. She easily could have insisted on the original 3 to make more money, but didn't. In fact, she goes over the price of every single item & makes sure you're ok with it without pressuring at all. I was curious how much it would cost to add a button hole to the coat I came in wearing, and she was not irritated whatsoever that I decided not to get that done. She was super sweet & helpful, plus extremely hardworking. Even in the minutes while I was trying on clothes, she was working away on a job. Payment is cash only or check. read more

I paid $103.97 for a bridesmaid dress to be taken in two (2) inches ($45) and the hemline to be shortened ($50). SHE DID AN AWFUL JOB. My hemline wasn't straight and you could not even tell I had the top taken it. It was just as big as before. Before I came here, I called to ask to see how much it would cost to get my wool coat sleeves shortened. The lady said it wouldn't be more than $30. I called Stitch-It in Green Hills before I called West End and they told me prices can range anyway between $30-$60 for this alteration. $30 would be the most I would spend on this sort of alteration anyway. I dropped off my coat and picked it up a week later. I was very satisfied with the results and the price, it cost me only $29. The sleeves look like it was never messed with! I will definitely be back to get more things altered. This place doesn't take credit cards so remember to bring your checkbook or cash. Recently had a most excellent experience with West End Alterations. For starters, they're open on Saturdays, and for some reason, I was having an incredibly difficult time finding a tailor who had hours that were amenable to my work schedule. I brought the woman who worked there (maybe the owner?) a pair of pants to take in and she did a beautiful job. Cost seemed reasonable ($20 for essentially four seams) and they were ready in one week. I'm sure she could have things ready sooner than that, but I wasn't really in a rush. I will definitely return here for future alterations needs. Took me a second to realize how to get to the store...I parked in the lot in front of the shopping center and entered a central set of doors. Horrible service. Do not come here. I had a $500 dress shortened, and somehow it completely changed the shape of the top of the dress. The shop owner yelled at me and accused me of taking the dress somewhere else in between. I had not. I asked for a refund (only of the tailoring fee, not the value of the dress) since she had completely ruined it. She refused and also refused to even try to fix it. read more

This place literally saved me and a bridesmaid's dress I had to wear. I bought a dress that was a full size too big. It pretty much looked like I was wearing a navy blue bag with straps on it. They were able to fix it and the finished product looked pretty fantastic. Cost: $71. Yes, that is expensive, but she really had to tear the dress apart. Caution! They won't cover your revisions, unless you pay extra. My first experience went fine. This time, I took a suit here to be altered. I had the sleeves shortened ($20), Pants hemmed ($20), and waist adjusted ($35). All together it came to $80.25 with tax. I pre-measured the pants before I took it there so I didn't had to try on at the place. After I picked up the clothes, I found hemmed the pants with a 2 inch cuff (originally it was about 1 inch), it looked really bulky when I tried it on at home. So I took it back to have it revised and tried to explain to her about the pant cuffs, but she wanted to CHARGE me $12 extra! I even reminded her I've spent $80 for the original alterations. Her REASONING was that I didn't specify when I took it in & the 2 inch cuff is the standard job, EVERYWHERE. (Basically, shift the blame on me) Note: this is for something they put on, originally the cuffs were at 1 inch! I thought they would put the same finish like the way it came in. If you come here, just make sure you'll be happy w/ everything b/c there's no revisions, not even if you spent $80. Personally, I'd taking my business somewhere else. read more

I was nervous about walking in here, because well, the area/parking lot is small and kinda sketchy. Luckily, I braved it. This place is top notch! I was lucky enough to catch her early in the afternoon, because I needed a rush order on a bridesmaids dress that needed to be taken in within a couple hours! The owner was very nice and accommodating. She was quick and she did a beautiful job on such a short notice. Being close to official midget height, I am always looking for a trustworthy tailor, and so glad I found Tina. I was a bit nervous about paying up front (no credit cards FYI) before seeing the final result but she did a great job of replacing a broken zipper on my Rag & Bone dress pants and fixing a torn seam in a favorite H&M shirt. $32 for both items including a new zipper. West End Alterations is a really convent and trustworthy place to go for alterations. Tina, the lady who runs it, is always professional and does a great job. I have had a couple pairs of pants altered there and she really did a great job. Alternatively, you could go to a place like Dry Clean USA for alterations, but it is just not the same experience as having a single tailor do the work. With expensive clothing, it is always important to have a trustworthy and reputable tailor modify your clothes. I have no complaints about Tina or the other people who work at West End Alterations, except that I thought it was a bit expensive. However, It's not like I get clothing tailored all the time, so I don't have much to compare them to. read more

I found some jeans at the store that looked simply fantastic on me but they were about a foot too long. Not wanting to waste a good pair of jeans, I bought them and headed over the West End Alterations. You have to finagle your way up a set a stairs and down a hallway but it's worth it. The place is small but they really do a good job. I have had two different jeans hemmed there, and they have both come out just right. I can be an annoying customer when it comes to alterations due to my need to have my jeans almost drag on the floor (which they clearly discourage), nevertheless, my jeans have always come out exactly as I wanted them. It's around $14 dollars to hem jeans, $16 and some change if you want to keep the original hem. This sounds pricey, but I have asked around and apparently that's the going rate. If you need something altered, this is the place to get that done. read more

The best part was how clear she was about the price of each item BEFORE I agreed to pay. She went through each piece, gave me a price, and explained why she was charging that much. She even asked me multiple times if I was ok with a somewhat high price for a skirt I was getting altered.. basically making sure I knew the price and it was ok with me. This is the opposite experience I have had at other places, who sometimes take advantage of the fact you didn't ask the price beforehand. I wanted to wear a "cool" pair of skinny jeans (read: maybe they were a little too tight for me) on a trip to visit my sister and went to put them on when (cue the suspenseful music) the ZIPPER BROKE!!! oh nooooo! I could either run over to Urban Outfitters and pick up a new pair for $58 or head on down to West End Alterations to have the zipper replaced for $21.50. The price seemed a little bit steep to me (and I happened to have exactly $22 in my purse thank Jesus), but honestly, I've never had a zipper replaced before and she did a great job. I have been going to Tina for a number of years and have never been disappointed in her work. I have had everything altered from pants hemmed and tapered in the hips, dresses taken up, skirts remade, and jackets totally redone in addition to winter coats. I have been to other places where my clothes have been ruined by incompetent "tailors". Tina is a pro and I cannot recommend her highly enough. I feel her prices are very fair for the quality of work she does. I will not take my clothes anywhere else. I moved about 3 years ago and still bring my things to Tina because I trust her implicitly with my clothes. Keep in mind I have family here in Nashville and visit often. I needed a floor-length bridesmaid dress hemmed a few inches, and I chose West End Alterations based on the reviews, the location, AND the Saturday hours. The gown portion of the dress consisted of the lining and 2 layers of tulle--3 layers in all. I wasn't having the dress resized or the bodice reworked, but even hemming can be a little nerve-wracking--you don't want to be that bridesmaid with her ankles peeking out. In the end, the length was perfect, just as we'd measured. The total cost was $60 based on the number of layers that needed hemming. Not bad, considering that tulle is a pain. She was very clear on the cost and payment (cash only), and while I waited, she seemed to take the same care and attention with other customers. (I had also taken in a dress with a ripped lining to see if she could fix it; she looked at it for a while and after showing me the work she'd have to do to fix it, we realized the alteration would have cost more than the dress. I appreciated her honesty, as it meant less $ for her but a happy customer.) I had recently moved and was in a bit of a rush for this. They were able to get it done within the week, but I think two weeks would have been standard. Basically, just be clear about your timeline and they'll be honest about meeting it or not (and don't procrastinate, like me). I'll definitely return here for any alterations I need. read more

I decided to write this review because it's hard to find multiple reviews for any place that isn't a restaurant. I'm a male of average height/weight that needed some pants altered. I was in and out in less than 10 minutes, during a weekday lunch break. I needed the waist let out on a new pair of pants. I tried them on in a small room, she measured me, told me how much needed to be taken out, I paid (cash) and she said they would be ready the next week. $14 plus tax, 1 week and a day turnaround. When I picked up the pants I tried them on again to check that they fit and inspected the seams, then I brought in two more pair that needed waist and hemming alterations. Finished hem (no cuff) is $12 plus tax. These prices are very much in line with professional altering costs, and the location is very accessible. You can pay (cash or check) when you drop off or when you pickup, but she seems to prefer payment in advance. The next time I was in there it was closer to 5pm and there was a line. The place is small, but literally full of clothes she's working on or finished. With that much business, write a review! Summary: Very convenient hours (especially compared to other alteration places), convenient location, and a very competent and professional proprietor. I came here about a year ago with a pair of jeans... no, THE pair of jeans. (my favorite and only pair that I like to wear). I skimmed through a bunch of tailors and decided to try this one. I had a hard time finding the store and when I did I was surprised to find that it was basically one tiny room with an Asian woman manning the entire thing. It felt like a sweatshop of sorts. Anyway, I went in the dressing room, put on my jeans and she measured where to hem them. I made her promise me like 10X that she wouldn't mess up my favorite pair of jeans and she said she wouldn't. Well, two days and $15 later, I came back and my jeans were perfect! You would never be able to guess that they were shortened. They are the perfect height on me and they look so much better now that I don't have to roll them up. Now, I can easily find jeans that fit me, but are too long and just bring them here! I came here to get a dress taken in. The woman was very busy and very rude to me during my fitting. I came in at the time of my appointment and had to wait over an hour before she got to me. While taking in my dress she was quite rude and made comments about my size saying as if I was too big & the dress would look bad if she to took the dress in as much as I wanted. Mind you, I am 103 lbs. I am by no means too big for much of anything. I was very offended. I was running last min and had no time to find a new tailor, so I stuck it out. I then had to pay a large price for the dress & the straps were not even the same length.
