The food was really good for a buffet. I like how you have sushi that you can order as well as sushi from the buffet. The sushi that we did order came out in a timely manner, we weren't waiting long. We tried the Nana, UT, Mountain Fuji, and the dragon roll and they all tasted really good. The sushi we got from the buffet was also pretty fresh, and we loved how you had a variety of food to choose from. There's options for non seafood eaters, and also options for kids (fried, dumplings, etc). The dessert was also very tasty, we really enjoyed the crème brûlée. This AYCE is awesome! They have so many options to choose from and the buffet food is delicious. They have several rolls you can chose from as well as singular nigiri's you can select from the buffet side. Lots of delicious Seafood and options that make it easy for you to choose. This may be the best all-you-can-eat sushi place I've ever visited! Every sushi roll we ordered was incredibly delicious. I have literally no criticism about any of them. My favorite was probably the Sweetheart roll, but I would order any of them again. The buffet was also better than I expected. There are a couple rows of food for non-seafood-lovers, including prime beef, fried rice, noodles, chicken dishes, potstickers, and more, although menu online doesn't list those items. The buffet seafood and sushi is also very good--I recommend the sushi sandwich. The service was fine. The trays in the buffet were never empty, and our sushi came out before too long, although our plates were never cleared during the meal. What a fun spot! The inside is really clean and modern. Our server was a young super nice dude who took really good care of us. The rolls we got were good. The variety at the buffet was really great, with cooked and raw food. The fact that there were desserts was icing on the cake. The sushi options on the menu were a good variety too. I'll say there was one kind of awkward occurrence where they were cooking something fresh near the buffet and were trying to "sell it," like a lot of pressure for you to come get something even if you don't really want it. Sukiya overall was fine since the food was good and they had a lot of variety to choose from. The unlimited sushi options we tried were good and the buffet items were fresh. Our experience with staff was less great. At one point, a group of employees were discussing whether or not they should return a cell phone that had been left behind by a low tipping customer. I was blown away by the food here. I am visiting Utah from Los Angeles for a weekend trip, and Los Angeles has some amazing Asian buffets. However, sukiya exceeded my expectations. It was actually really good and they offered so much variety. I loved the sashimi, standouts were the octopus and salmon which were so fresh! The crab legs were so yummy. Dinner prices come just shy of $33 but for an additional $7 you can choose their premium selections and opt for their seemingly endless array of rolls in addition to the regular buffet spread. We shared the A5 Wagyu nigiri which was good but I can't say there was much discerning this and a fatty cut of some USDA prime steak. Novelty aside from the coveted A5 name, this dish was still good. What was simply sublime were the unlimited snow crab legs. Something visceral took over as I bolted to and from the crab leg station, cracking a myriad of snow crabs with just these hands. For the price and AYCE gimmick I expected little but received moist, flavorful legs in one lunch sitting. I will say that the sashimi options were few, and I wasn't about to risk the terror of bad raw scallops but this aside, it's a decent buffet. The official hours for Sukiya Sushi & Japanese Buffet in Midvale clearly state they are open until 10:00 PM.¹ Silly me, living in a reality where words have meanings, I assumed "open until 10" meant I could actually eat there before 10. I walked in ready to drop some cash on seafood. Instead, I was intercepted by a hostess wearing enough makeup to successfully waterproof a mid-sized submarine. (I couldn't tell if she was a teenager or a middle-aged woman, but Sephora definitely hit their monthly quota on her face alone). She looked me dead in the eye and informed me that they "stop seating people at 9:30." Call me crazy, but if you refuse to do the primary function of a restaurant--seating and feeding people--at 9:30 PM, then your restaurant closes at 9:30 PM. You don't get to slap a "10:00 PM" sticker on the door just because the staff needs 30 minutes to mop the floors and gossip in the back. That entirely defeats the purpose of posted operating hours. I am 99% sure this phantom 9:30 cutoff is a rogue, employee-enforced rule so they can clock out early and get back to scrolling TikTok. If the owner has no clue his front-of-house staff is actively turning away paying customers 30 minutes before closing, he needs to investigate. And if he does know? Absolute shame on him. Do everyone a favor: either buy a dictionary so your staff can look up the definition of the word "open," or just change your hours to 9:30 PM. Until then, I'll take my appetite to a restaurant that actually knows how a clock works. read more

I have a difficult time trusting seafood buffets, especially when the seafood is served raw and when the price point is $26/per person. (My goal at every AYCE is to eat my money's worth, and this place makes it extremely easy.) I didn't try any of the signature rolls because I'm more of a nigiri fan and it did not disappoint! Salmon, tuna, escolar, scallops, and (my favorite!) yellowtail were all available and all delicious. The chefs were working directly behind the bar so you could see them rotate out the old food and restock the buffet with fresh rolls and sashimi. By the time I ate my fill of nigiri, however, I didn't even have the chance to try their Chinese food! (Although, their honey walnut shrimp was very good.) Their sashimi includes salmon, tuna, yellowtail, scallop, surf clam, and many more. Other than sushi, they served really good Chinese food, including Sichuan food. I loved this kind of ayce because I wouldn't just be eating cold food the entire time. Another thing I appreciate about Sukiya is that boba, fruits, and desserts are included. Most ayce restaurants would at most provide soda, which I don't drink. Sukiya has mango and melon boba options. For the fruits, they had strawberries, watermelon, cherries, grapes, etc. Moreover, I was so surprised to find that they had LYCHEE!!!! I haven't eaten those in years! I was delighted and enjoyed the lychee very much. As for the desserts, my favorite was the creme brulee and the coconut jello. Originally, they were doing a grand opening special giving out sashimi plates. The owner, who is from Japan, said they switched out the uni because they found out the uni was not very fresh. I saw that this place just opened and the price is not so bad for all you can eat sushi. I went during lunch which cost $26.99. The only thing is that you can only order one roll per person at a time. I ended up ordering two rolls during the course of the meal. In between, I enjoyed the buffet. The sushi rolls, sashimi and other seafood dishes tasted good except for the oyster shooter, oyster and a half shell,,.. on the fishy side. They also have an assortment of hot dishes which were delicious and flavorful. Drinks are also included in the price. (Soda, hot tea, iced tea., boba tea) and for dessert... assortment of cakes (dried and flavorless) assortment of puddings (very tasty) my favorite was the taro&tapioca pudding (like moms) assortment of fruits and moose. Overall, my server (Luna) was super friendly but I was a bit disappointed in the service... towards the end of my meal, there was a pile of plates that had not been picked up.The tables next to me were being cleared.... It's not going to be the best food you've ever had, but it's definitely good enough to add to the rotation of restaurants to go to. Our waiter was very kind and was always nearby in case we wanted to order more sushi.
