So I have only heard horror stories about New York and Locksmiths. I was pretty anxious about finding someone good. When I ran across this company's reviews I decided to give it a shot. I had an incident in my apartment a while back where FDNY had to bust through my door destroying one of my two deadbolts. I hadn't had it replaced given that I had a back up lock. Then recently, my keys were stolen and I got paranoid. Called this morning at 9 sharp and was greeted nicely. I was told Isaac would meet me at my home at the time of my choice. He was on time, friendly, and didn't mind my 75 lb. dog poking around him while he assessed the damage. I will admit that I think this was a little pricey but I'll be dammed if Isaac didn't get both locks installed and in perfect working order in about 20 minutes. The keys work great and he even greased all the locks so that nothing is sticking or overly difficult to turn. Fast and reliable. I would recommend them to anyone in a heartbeat. I was extremely impressed and have definitely filed their number in my phone for future use (although hopefully I won't be locking myself out anytime soon)! read more

I wound up with Eli, a nervous, hurried and eventually abusive man. He quoted me a price different from the one I had before, upped it $10 by the time he was done and then upped it again when I wanted to pay by credit card / check and demanded a receipt. He was so much in a hurry that I wondered if he might have been over-medicated. And he kept insulting me. He kept repeating that I should be 'grateful' for his appearance. He continued that for a while and then upped it to calling me an 'expletive' who 'deserved to be living alone'. And finally, when I insisted that I was going to pay what he originally stated, he said he was going to take out the lock and leave me with a hole in the door. Only phone calls to Arthur calmed him down. Note that this was not an emergency, I had made an appointment days before. I eventually filed a complaint with the NYC Dept. Of Consumer Affairs. I have to be honest, I've never written a review on here, but the level of service that Arthur and Sullivan Locksmith provides cannot be beat so I had to let people know. Not only is he completely trustworthy with an extremely transparent execution of the work he plans to do, but does so in an efficient and and friendly manner. He was in my office recently to repair a lock that we had installed only 4 months prior by a DIFFERENT "Company"(really just 2 guys and a girl answering calls on a cell phone) who took complete advantage of us. Arthur showed up within hours, assessed the problem (A faulty latch that stayed in the door even when the handle was turned) and told me that it most likely will break again due to the faulty hardware that we were sold. He suggested over the long term to replace the entire lock, but he would be sure to do what he could to help immediately. He fixed the latch for what he said would be only temporarily but since he didn't have the specific parts on hand that day, if we just ordered the replacement parts, that he would be back to install them FOR FREE! When he did return a week later (today) the latch he fixed is still in great condition and suggested that I keep the replacements that I had ordered for the future in case they do break. I did a gut renovation of my condo, and have dealt with a zillion contractors. Arthur at Sullivan Locksmith is, hands-down, one of the most professional, competent, knowledgeable, reasonably-priced, and honest contractors I've ever dealt with!! Plus, he's super smart, articulate, and a great troubleshooter! My parents' 3-family apt building needed new locks, and after sending Arthur some photos, he provided recommendations and the best prices on Medeco cylinders, Marks gate locks, Segal deadbolts, turn locks, and these cool modern commercial-grade knobs -- all in matching brushed nickel. He also arranged for me to get a discount from his supplier for the nearly 20 specially-coded Medeco keys I wanted (so the tenants can't duplicate them and turn their apt into a hotel)! I mean, I researched online the typical discount prices on these items, and his were far far cheaper! Plus, he didn't try to upsell me at all, but just the contrary: I wanted new everything, but he suggested just keeping the parts that worked to save money. And his labor charge was very reasonable for NYC, especially since he did a lot of work getting my order together before he even showed up at our door. I can be quite the pain-in-butt fussbudget, but Arthur remained friendly and helpful. He returned emails and calls ASAP, scheduled the installation within 24 hours, and arrived at my parents' door in Astoria at 10 am sharp, as scheduled. He instantly got to work, and within 2 hours, had replaced our rusty ancient locks and knobs on four doors. He also sprayed WD-40 on my parents' creaky hinges and sticking door, and added dayglo nail polish to the turn knobs so my tenants would know how to align them properly when locking the door. (Otherwise, folks would be locked out!) I used to be a newspaper reporter, so I tend to interrogate everyone. I found out that Arthur is a CUNY graduate, passed his LSATs to become a lawyer, but decided to work for his family business instead. He's a young guy, maybe about 30, with the energy to match. While he's out making house calls, installing and bailing-out callers who are locked out of their homes, his dad is running this Manhattan shop. And his brother Eric, only 14, is already accompanying him on jobs to learn the trade. I believe they also have a shop in Brooklyn. I bought a smart lock for our new apartment, its a Sumsung EZON 5230 - its a touch pad lock with biometrics and I had to get it from Korea, as it was not available here, so was a little concerned with installing it. Someone returned my keys to me after I'd mistakenly left them in a Citibike dock. While I was relieved, I felt uneasy about going back to my normal routine because the lady who returned them lives in my building and asked, "what floor do you live on again?" once she had returned them to me (nearly three hours after I asked if she had found my keys) yep sketchy. So I asked my neighbor to stay in my house while I went to work. These guys are great! My girlfriend and I, on a Sunday, got locked out of our apartment. Not only was Arthur there on a Sunday but he tried to send someone out immediately, and when nobody was available, he closed down the shop and came to the rescue himself! He unlocked the door without issue and even offered to replace the lock itself at a great rate. All of this on a Sunday and in just an hour of wait time, which would have been even quicker had he not had a customer in the shop. This was not a good experience for me. They were awful. Nice guys but really awful. Could have just been a bad day for them but they did NOTHING to make things right in the end. No apology. No nothing. I was having a lock changed on an apartment. Very simple job. They showed up 2 hours late, then installed the lock improperly so that when we stepped out into the hall to test it...we ALL got locked out of the apartment. The guy had to call a co-worker to come over and break us back in (how comforting) It was absolutely ridiculous. Arthur is the man !!!! I recently lost my keys yesterday and I called today Arthur I explained that I wanted to change two cylinder locks. I called at 2:50PM he arrived at 3:30PM and finished the job at 3:50PM . Not only did he change my two cylinders but he attempted several times to see if the new key fitted in the cylinders and let me attempt to try it out too.One of my cylinder was loose and he tightened it after all the years I had maintenance in my building try to do this they never did it right but Arthur did it in seconds my cylinder no longer moves.
