I read the reviews so this is where I came when I needed chains while on a weekend trip to Yosemite. (Really CHP? You require chains on my Subaru? If a Subaru needs chains then really no one should be driving in that kind of weather in the first place.) There was a problem with the tire socks that I purchased, but they went above and beyond to resolve the issue. I wouldn't hesitate to go here again or to recommend them to others. Update: Rude owner, ridiculously long wait times with appointment. Over two hours for an oil change. Last time they forgot to rotate and asked me if I want to wait a little longer.. no, I don't. I politely asked why a part price was three times the price of everywhere else and more than the dealer and was told to go elsewhere! Ok. Done. Customer lost. We just moved to the area, and had a flashing check engine light. It was nerve wrecking to have to quickly find a mechanic and get the car towed to do a potentially major repair. They were able to get me in on the same day, and have the car finished quickly. The communication was excellent, and they worked with me to do an over the phone payment and after hours pick up. I like that you talk directly to the mechanic here, who is managing the shop floor and has a good idea of everything going on and what needs to be done. Seems very organized. We were recommended to this wonderful establishment by a local Chevron employee when our Honda Odyssey loss total power and electrical on the way back from Zipline in Mariposa, on a late Saturday afternoon. All auto shops were closed in the area at this time and Sullivan was able to accommodate us at a last moment notice. The staffs were very professional and helpful. The technician was very knowledgeable and honest. Sullivan replaced our alternator, installed a new battery, and even top off our oil and water! They performed all of this work within 1 hour from the moment they diagnosed the problem, while working after hour! Our family are very grateful to have found Sullivan during our vacation here in Yosemite and would recommend Sullivan to all motorists in the area as well as any passerby, tourists (like us). They're honest, trustworthy and technical. I have been there for repairs, tires and services and I have never been dissatisfied. I was having what seamed to be a major engine issue with my vehicle and a friend had recommended Sullivan's, and I was not disappointed. They got it in the next day and called me just a few hours later with a $1200 quote. He said a part needed to be ordered and they would have it there that day. I received another call an hour later telling me that they got deeper into the engine and found out that the part was fine and the issue was rodent damage and all they needed to do was replace some wiring. The final repair was near $400. I gave them the ok to charge me $1200, but they were honest and found that the problem wasn't near as bad and saved me $800. I really do feel like they truly care for their customers and will go out of there way to make them happy. I highly recommend them for any vehicle need. As a bonus, when your car is getting serviced, South Gate is just a walk down the street. read more

Their ad stated 'Auto Repair', but... (not really). Inquired about a rear leaf-spring replacement job on 90 Jeep XJ. Bought all new springs, bushings, U-bolt kit, new shackle kit, all new pins. Easy job. Cut everything off, it's junk. Pure $400 labor profit, 2 hours per side. Nope, wrong answer. Seems I as though, I DIDN'T buy the parts through THEM (and pay through the nose). They stick to brake-jobs and shocks, easy money. Avoid Corporate Mega-Giants. Do yourself a favor, and find a family-owned business that honors/ values your time, business, and $$$. read more

Brian was excellent squeezing me in for a brake inspection for grinding sound. Mechanics knew what they were doing. Other places had told me rear drum brakes couldn't be inspected without expensive tear apart, but they got off rear drums with a wacking no problem. Front caliper piston was frozen (other one good) and Brian got rotors and parts expedited from Fresno. Total was $842.41 (546.43 parts). Update: 1,700 miles and a month later back home at a Tire Pros in Chula Vista found other caliper stuck, and noting both calipers should have been replaced. Maybe it just wore out a little bit later. But I did not say to only replace one. Brian said only one was needed, and the mechanic was wondering and had the other new one that came also. read more

My wife and I woke this morning to find a flat tire before our long drive home from Bass Lake. Sullivan took our car without an appointment, and replaced two well-worn front tires, with a free tire rotation. It is a fairly busy three-car garage, and locals should make an appointment. I would recommend Sullivan's. I did hear of a few complaints while I was waiting in their comfortable and spacious lounge: - One former customer who did not take the repair recommendation from the staff, and ended up with a tire blowout on their drive back to San Diego :( - Another customer didn't pass smog because of the wrong size carburetor installed (item number off by one digit), but Sullivan's were correcting the issue. I used to go to Sullivan's Tire Pros and unfortunately I can no longer recommend them. This didn't happen recently but I felt it important to mention in case you run into the same issue. My Ford Mustang started blowing air only through the defroster vents and this means that there is a vacuum leak in the lines on this model year. I knew right where the issue was location wise but couldn't find the specific line to repair as I am not a skilled mechanic. Knowledge and ability do not always go hand in hand but that is why we bring our vehicles to mechanics in the first place. When I brought it in they wanted to charge a diagnostic fee and I asked why there would be a diagnostic fee if I and they knew exactly what the problem was. Maybe I'm just old school but it really feels like companies charge for any and every little thing now. Anyways the service writer admitted that it didn't make sense and made a reasonable concession. He stated that if that turned out to be the exact issue in the spot that I stated then they would wave the diagnostic fee. That was very reasonable. When the job was finished it was close to closing time as there were other vehicles ahead of mine. A woman processed the transaction and when the price came up much higher than expected I asked if there was a diagnostic charge and what the issue was. She read the tech comments and stated that it was a vacuum leak and that the line needed repair. I explained that the tech had stated earlier if that turned out to be the issue they would wave the diagnostic fee. She very surly replied, "We don't do that here! We never wave diagnostic fees." I looked around for the service writer that I had spoke with earlier and he was very busy with other customers. I asked if she could just check in with him and she reiterated that it wouldn't matter because they don't ever do that. I was understandably upset but didn't want to make a scene so I just paid for it and decided I would never go back. I have told friends and family about this experience but never shared it on Yelp. Even though it happened a while back it irritates me every time I see their location as I pass by. Nobody is perfect and everyone makes mistakes but insisting that your customer is lying when it would have been so easy to verify is unacceptable. read more

I am so happy that I took my car to Sullivan's this past weekend. I got a faulty oil change before heading to Yosemite with my friends for the weekend. All the oil leaked out of my car and I had to spend the better part of Saturday making arrangements to get it towed to the nearest town - Oakhurst. By the time I arrived at Sullivan's, it was already 3:30, and the shop closes at 4. I was really worried that my car would need major engine repairs and that they wouldn't be able to work on my car until Monday (they're closed on Sundays). I feared the worst - that I'd have to get a rental car (and no rental places were open that day or the following day - more headaches!) and drive back from the Bay Area to pick up my car later in the week. Jim was so nice and had Ray take a look at my car even though closing time was fast approaching. Mike helped alleviate my anxiety with jokes and a very friendly disposition. About 1 hour after arriving at the shop, the clouds literally parted (it was a stormy/gloomy weekend). The sun came out and I got the good news that my car was fixed and running smoothly. I felt such joy, relief, and gratitude for these three men who stayed past their working hours (and on a Saturday, to boot!) to help me out. Thank you again!! I hope to never have car trouble in the Yosemite area again, but if I do, I know that Sullivan's will be, without a doubt, the place I go to. read more

Over this past weekend, I had a flat tire and busted wheel driving down from Yosemite. I needed a wheel and tire in an incredibly tight turnaround time of 3-4 hours to get back home. These folks managed to find a tire and wheel from a junkyard in Fresno, almost 50 miles away, drive it back in my time frame and have it ready to go when I got there. These folks are truly professional and will work with you to get to a reasonable solution. Please make these folks your first priority if you are an out-of-towner who is in a bind or a regular town folk who needs regular service. I brought my truck to Sullivan's to investigate a new noise coming from my front end before I was to head home to Montana. They said that the soonest they could get to my truck was a week away but if I left it with them they would fit it in for a "safety inspection" so I could at least continue my drive home to Montana. A week later I called them and they never touched or looked at it. When I went to pick it up, it was parked in the same spot, right at the front door. When I said that the truck was supposed to be looked at, in so many words he called me a liar. If you are from out of state, save yourself the headache and use someone else. These guys don't care about you if you are not from their town. **** Edit 09/06/2017**** The owner reached out for a chance to "make things right". I figured that I would give them the chance and save the drive to Fresno. She seems to really care about the way her customers are treated which is very respectable. Appointment made for September 8th, so I'm hoping it all goes well! Will edit this after the appointment. **** Edit 09/12/2017**** Got the truck back. Leaf spring and shackle bushings replaced front and rear and now the truck drives great. They took care of me. Great service and a fixed truck was the best apology. If I have an issue with my truck in Oakhurst I would bring it back to them. Hopefully my first experience with them was just a one off event. Driving through from out of town, my dash lit up indicating low tire pressure. I happened to be driving right by Sullivan's so I pulled in and asked if they would be willing to check my tire pressure. They not only checked it, but topped off all four tires and showed me how to reset my indicator on my dash. They charged me nothing and the young man who helped me was friendly, professional, and knowledgeable. We were right back out on the road in less than five minutes with a safe car and a happy driver.
