I would avoid this place if at all possible. I recently moved to Palm Springs and had some tooth pain. I made an appointment and they took some x-rays and everything looked fine. Although the staff was a little rude, the dentist appeared competent and polite. I then tried to book a cleaning for later that month--they told me that since I came in for the tooth pain, my insurance would not cover the cleaning even though I only had one prior cleaning that year and my insurance covered two cleanings a year. (FYI, I later found out from my insurance that this was not the case--that a cleaning would be covered). I told them I did not want to pay out-of-pocket for a cleaning and I would wait two more months until January to get my cleaning. At this point, the dentist walked by the reception desk and told the person at the front desk to schedule my cleaning a particular way and it would be covered by insurance. So, I made my appointment and showed up two weeks later and they only looked at my teeth and told me that my appointment was not for a cleaning, but for a review from the prior appointment. By this point, my teeth no longer had any pain and that was not why I was there. They then told me they would see me for a cleaning but I would have to wait over an hour and pay substantially more (which again was contrary to my insurance coverage as I later found out from my insurance company. Do yourself a favor and avoid these people. The staff is rude and they try to rip you off by claiming things are not covered by insurance when they actually are. read more

I have been going to Dr. Ray for over 10 years and I have never had an issue with how he practices dentistry. I had a bridge from another dentist when I lived in the L.A., it was taken care of and now it no longer gives me difficulty. Dr. Ray is a perfectionist, which is something I like, he is a busy man, but is always willing to answer questions about my dental work. If I have had a rude prep person I have always mentioned this to Dr. Ray. Everyone I have encountered in his office has been nice toward me, you get back what you put out. Everyone has different teeth, we all have a different smile, HIGH expectations usually lead to disappointments. Be realistic, having any type of dental work will cost you, and if you Do Not have insurance, that is on You. We always have options to acquire a form on insurance for dental procedures. You may pay or not, but aren't you teeth worth it? Research your options before you go to any dentist, do not be hesitant to ASK questions before, during, and after your procedure. If you have a question during a procedure, just hold up your hand (if you can), and Dr. Ray will stop and assist you. I have never had a problem, because I ask questions and ask again if I have to, never hurts to be thorough, especially with Your money. In my opinion, I believe Dr. Ray is exceptional, truly. I am never nervous on having any type of procedure. I trust him, period. read more

I, along with my elder parents have been seeing Dr Ray for over 10 years. We've been between the Indio location along with the Palm Springs location. I cannot say enough good things about his philosophy, professionalism, patient care and general overall pleasant demeanor. After switching from another Palm Springs dentist that was building his retirement fund out of my mouth - I was relieved with Dr Rays conservative approach. Preserving the original tooth and structure as long as possible was his goal. I appreciated him doing what was best for my oral health and not necessarily his pocket. That's not to say I haven't had to do things here and there. But what I can't thank him enough for was being my advocate and helping me through my Bells Palsy. He has guided me through some very difficult times and encouraged me to fight harder for my care by providing suggestions and paths I had not considered (I never recovered and had permanent nerve damage / facial paralysis that required major and rare surgery). The people I encountered were, Friendly, willing to explain what they were doing and why, Professional, engaging and last but not least the procedure was fast and painless. I have been taking my elderly mother (as I write this she is now 93 year old) here for the past 5 years after another dentist recommended over-the-top dental work for her. Dr Ray and his staff have only been wonderful! Very respectful, kind and not aggressive in their treatment of her issues. And just today, Friday at 530 pm, he answered an emergency call from me for my mom after her jaw suddenly swelled up. He called in an rx for some antibiotics to keep her comfortable overnight and is seeing her first thing in the morning. My bad that I haven't been to the dentist in a while. I used to have a good dental insurance but then my company switched to an HMO and I had to see this Palm Springs Dental Group. They told me I needed to have a cleaning done with lasers and antibiotics at an extra cost of almost a thousand dollars because my insurance covered only a basic cleaning. They said if I didn't get the cleaning done there way I'll lose my teeth in 5 years. I was lucky enough that my wife got me on her insurance so I can see Dr. Ray again. Dr. Ray took a good look and checked everything very carefully. He said that I didn't need all that special treatment on my gums and that they were completely optional and more importantly, that I wouldn't lose my teeth in 5 years either. So happy to find a doctor who's honest enough to save his patient money rather than getting himself a new Porsche. Dr. Ray and his staff are the absolute best. It is so rare to find people who really enjoy their jobs and enjoy taking care of their patients. read more

Moved to the area 5 years ago and had 2 not so good dental experiences. Luckily I found Dr. Ray and he is EXCELLENT! I can't recommend him enough. Very little waiting time after arriving for an appointment. And Dr. Ray's experience really shows. He is careful while working, doesn't rush and is very mindful and looking at 3 steps ahead so he is ready. And the staff is excellent as well. read more

Absolutely awful. The girl doing xrays was not together at all. She didn't know what she was doing and after four tries she finally got the xrays. Dr Ray was very rude, and probing my mouth with his sharp tool made me hop out of the chair several times. After trying to change me more money for an evaluation of my teeth which I refused, he repeated on and on at least a dozen times told me how my front tooth had bone loss. I was very uncomfortable and not relaxed. When l requested the xrays, they told me they would email it in a couple of days. When l never received the email, l had to call again to request them. When l finally received them, they were a very low resolution copy of the original xrays. I got to a point where l had to go back to his office and pick up what they told me were the original xrays. They were not. They were the same low resolution copy. Don't waste your time with this place. Very bad. read more

I've gone to almost every dentist in the valley and I was getting fed up with all the up sell and rip off treatment . Luckily my neighbor is a retired dentist and he spoke highly of Dr. Ray Sumabat as the only trustworthy dentist in town who didn't work part time as a used car salesman. I called my insurance and I was glad that they accepted my insurance. The office is nice and clean. The front office girls were really super nice and got all the paperwork done in a jiffy. The office was busy but everyone including the other patients were friendly! They got me in even before my appointment time and Dr. Ray saw me right away . I was freaked out because his diploma said he graduated from USC dental school over 20 years ago, but the doc still looks like he just got out of school. Everyone was very thorough, the nurses took my blood pressure and Dr. Ray examined me like I've never experienced before. He not only checked my teeth and gums but he also checked for oral cancer, my bite and my jaw joints. They took x rays and photos with this hi tech machine and I could see all my teeth right away on the computer. He went over everything like a fine toothed comb .He told me I needed only one crown which I already knew because I broke part of the tooth eating nuts. It sure beats the 9 crowns and 5 fillings that another dentist told me I absolutely needed. Even though I just had a cleaning from another dentist last year, Dr. Ray showed me all the nasty tartar that was still left between my teeth and he recommended that I get a deep cleaning. Now I know why my teeth still felt grungy even after my last cleaning. When I complained about that to my last dentist, he said I was born that way! The office girls got me an estimate right away and their prices were very reasonable. But since I wasn't hurting , they said if i wanted I could wait until the insurance approves things so that there wouldn't be any surprises in the costs, which I really appreciated. I was very impressed with Dr. Ray and his staff and their professionalism. My neighbor is right, they know how a dental office should run and how to give their patients a five star treatment. read more

I made an appointment here for getting a crown made for my new implant after a recommendation from my oral surgeon. After asking how long this appointment would last, she told me that it wouldn't be long at all, so I planned on being able to fit this into my lunch period give or take 15 minutes. Dr. Sumabat's office called me the day prior to tell me to get there early to fill out my paperwork, so I showed up at 12:45 pm on my lunch break. After filling out my paperwork and sitting around waiting until 1:20 pm (20 minutes after showing up), I asked the dental hygienist if I was going to be seen any time soon and she said "Why? Your appointment is for an hour." Having not heard this and getting a little annoyed that I was sitting there for 20 minutes past my appointment time, I said that I would need to have my appointment soon; otherwise, I would have to re-schedule since I didn't take time off of work to do this and it was my lunch period. She looked annoyed and went and talked to someone, maybe the doctor. She brought me back to the dental area and sat me down. Dr. Sumabat came in 5-10 minutes later and apologized for the wait. He seemed very nice, but the rest of the appointment I was rushed, nothing was explained to me at all, they took a mold, I was berated for not having a dentist before getting my implant (I moved to S. CA and found my own oral surgeon knowing that I needed this implant), told that usually I see the dentist before oral surgeon and that this is not a traditional way to do things, and told that my appointment was supposed to be 1.5 hours!!! How does a receptionist tell me that my appointment would be really quick, the dental hygienist tell me that it was scheduled for 1 hour, and the dentist tell me that it was supposed to be 1.5 hours? Obviously, this is a very unorganized office and I really didn't want to get an expensive crown from a place that doesn't take the time to explain things to patients and blame patients for the appointment running late. I found another dentist and love him! He took the time to sit down with me and explain everything, and I found out another reason that I made the right decision to switch. My new dentist said I needed to get confirmation from my insurance before ordering the crown mold and Dr. Sumabat was going to order it without getting that. It could have cost me a lot more money. If you want a dentist that has time to talk to you and takes the time to explain things to you, I would not go here. I was very uncomfortable the whole time knowing that he rushed everything, even picking out the color of my crown. Although I bet Dr. Sumabat is a proficient dentist and nice guy, I am much happier with my new dentist and office. read more
