Went to this office for a toothache. No diagnosis first visit. I have had a pocket under tooth 8n past that became infected because of gum disease. Had me come second time so general dentist, Dr. Cabana could do a full evaluation, she would not refer me to specialist even though I was in pain for 3 weeks now. I could not see the in office periodontist without the general dentist evaluation. I was in pain and frustrated with thier red tape policy. She wrote on MyChart I was rude! As a trained doctor she should know it is frustration with being in pain so long. The staff was rude and unempathetic, and Dr. Cabana is unprofessional. I would not go to thr office under any circumstances, very bad experience. I went to another office and was seen by a specialist within a few days. They understood it is a priority when a person is in pain. Poor medical decision made by periodontist at Rancho Mirage Dental Office insisting I have full eval from a general dentist first. The only thing this office cares about is money, until they need to return patient funds. They issued me a refund without any communication and mailed it to an invalid address as a result. It has been almost a month since I informed them and I still have not received the funds. The manager Alana has refused to speak with me or resolve this issue. Ample time has elapsed for this to be resolved but Tanya, the bookkeeper, does not follow up as she promises, and I get no updates unless I call repeatedly. Other than with the hygenist, Christina, I have not felt at ease or welcome. I switched dentists and had a completely different experience for the better. *RMDG & Dr Joe is the Way to Go* First impressions are often lasting...and so is the 2nd & 3rd... Called to find out some "new patient info" because I needed a new Dentist, after seeing the same DDS in Beverly Hills for 20 years. Spoke with Tanya. She answered all my questions and concerns. She was extremely patient and understanding -- especially when I shared an experience with her about a Dentist in Palm Desert, who was so rude & discourteous, I walked out of his office, less than 2 minutes after meeting him. Tanya suggested we schedule an initial consult with Dr Joe to meet him, then decide if he & RMDG would be the right fit. One week later, I stepped into a very friendly & professional office and warmly greeted by Tanya, Alana and Crystal. What an impressive beginning. BTW I received texts & email reminders about all my upcoming appointments. Right away they made me feel comfortable as if I were a returning patient. The AC room temperature throughout the entire office was perfecto on a scorching hot summer day. As I patiently sat in their light & bright, tastefully furnished waiting area, Dr Joe walked in to introduce himself, then asked me to come back into his office so we can talk. Since I like to read new Doctors bios prior to my first office visit, I knew where Dr Joe was from, what sports and teams he loves, so I began our conversation with some sports talk -- always a perfect icebreaker for sports enthusiasts such as us. Before we shifted our talk to "dental work" I knew Dr Joe & RMDC was the right place for me. After discussing my Dental history with Dr Joe (I had previously emailed his staff my recent dental records) I agreed to proceed with new dental x-rays & imaging and an exam with the tech team. All their equipment is state-of-the-art and very impressive. I've never had X rays and other imagining done so fast and so effortlessly at my regular dentist's office. They even took my BP -- 1st time I've encountered this at any dental office -- in case you're curious? My BP is good :) I also received after-visit summaries on my patient portal. Another first for a dental office. The two hygienist who examined my gums & teeth were friendly and professional. And documented my measurements swiftly and accurately. Afterwards, Dr Joe came back to discuss all the results with me, which was nothing I didn't already know and no surprises. Then we discussed future treatment -- simply dental cleanings. The following week I came back to see the hygienist. I'd love to share her name, but I've learned the hard way not to brag because it'll only make it harder for me to book future appointments ;) Let's just say, she is very thorough yet gentle and simply amazing. And I've already scheduled my next cleaning with her. RMDG is so awesome, my wife followed my lead the following week, and had the identical perfect results and experiences. Buyer beware!!! I just went to my old dentist and everything was fine. I moved and was finding a new dentist in my area. When I went in they do X-rays and they check your gums. I thought I had an appointment for teeth cleaning and xrays. The dentist gives you a crazy expensive treatment plan!!Of course, my numbers were really bad and needed almost $10,000 in treatment. In March I spent almost $13,000 on 5 crowns that were not hurting at all and one extraction needed to be done. Felt very comfortable with all aspects of my visit from the front desk to the dentist, Dr Joe. I recently had my first (and last) appt at RMDG. I don't like to give negative reviews but this office is shady. I take diligent care of my teeth & always regular cleanings/exams. My appt at RMDG was for new patient exam & cleaning. To my horror the dentist told me I had a massive infection in back molar that went into my sinuses. He said I could have a stroke & tooth must be pulled immediately. I saw red flags & got out of there. I was quite upset & then went to a well known reputable private dentist who upon examination found NO signs of infection & said have excellent dental health. As a side note, RMDG hygienist took 10 mins to clean my teeth & actually missed some teeth during the process. A horrible experience all around. read more

I went to RMDG for a tooth extraction under general anesthesia. I am a very nervous patient and was nervous about the surgery. The surgeon Naman Desai was not seeming to be having a good day. I had a second appointment scheduled after using their $65(?) special which included x-rays and a cursory examination. Yes, the place is clean (or so it appears) and I'm sure the DDS is qualified and competent, but my gut feeling is this place is ALL about getting as much money out of their patients as possible which may include their inhouse "dental plan." Yesterday, January 9, 2025, I had one of my best dental appointments in decades. My husband and I have been going to Dr. Carol Cabanas since we moved to Rancho Mirage in late 2016. We had gone to our previous dentist for decades. Visiting her first office was amazing! State of the art dental facility, dental equipment, staff. When she moved down the street across from the River, I was even more impressed with the quality of the dental equipment., and staff! So impressive! Yesterday, I questioned Christina, the dental hygienist, if the dental cleaning equipment was new. I, for the first time ever, felt no pain in my gums when she cleaned my teeth! Excellent hygienist! Very friendly! Delightful young lady! Then, I was further shocked to see the new dental x-ray equipment. Blew me away that a 3 D monitor scanned our gums/ teeth, immediately projecting the 3D x-rays on the monitor. The technician then held a hand monitor to x-ray parts of my teeth more clearly. Normally, inserting the, sometimes, pinching the gums painfully during the process! This new painless procedure was so efficient, taking 2/3's less time!!! Please make an appointment with Rancho Mirage Dental!!! Dr. Carol's continual purchase of the latest, most efficient dental equipment will make your visit pleasurable! I do not remember ever giving another dentist this compliment! Plus, Dr. Carol happens to be the cutest, sweetest, most honest dentist ever! Friendly staff! My last dentist never encouraged my husband and I to get braces. He was a dental instructor at a major university in LA and encouraged me to get crowns, etc. As a highly honored teacher, counselors and school administrator, I failed as a dental patient, and did not see an orthodontist! I came in this morning for an initial exam and to get my teeth cleaned. What I got was a "plan" for$2300 + of further cleaning, deep cleaning or scraping, over a period of 3 months. I said I would like to have my teeth cleaned and was told verbatim "unfortunately you are not a candidate for a cleaning, ' Who is NOT a candidate for a cleaning? that borders on the absurd and ridiculous! not only that, I was contacted a minimum of 4 times to confirm my appointment which is excessive and borders on harassment. I am not looking for an opportunity to discuss this further. no further contact is needed. no reply was necessary. do not hesitate one moment after they present you with a plan. just walk out the door and find a new provider in your plan. Do NOT go if you want them to clean your wallet out. My grandmother is 90, they wanted to do a deep cleaning and charge $500!! This is NEVER necessary for an elderly patient of this age. A deep cleaning will NEVER get her stable with bone loss at her age. The process will take several months, if you are under the age 70 and want implants, etc. I have been in the field for over 25 years and will NEVER recommend a deep cleaning (scaling) to a 90 year old. She just needs a regular cleaning, we all can at any age. Dr., this is NOT malpractice for you if it is not done! That is what a patient refusal form is for, have them sign it!! Lived here less than 3 yrs and today saw the 4th dentist and what felt like 4th or 5th hygienist. They messed up my appt rescheduled me 5 wks later then had to change that appt. Pay attention to your insurance out of pocket costs! I was overcharged. Called them first, before filing a grievance, and they were adamant that they charged me correctly. Sure enough, the facility DID NOT tell me what my insurance would charge, but rather the price of the upgraded crown, while saying "that's the price with your insurance." What they should have done is : 1. Given me the price for a regular crown 2. Offered me the upgraded crown 3. If I refused the regular crown and accepted the upgraded crown, they should have provided a document for me to sign, stating that I refuse the crown that my insurance covers, and accepted the upgrade crown. Also, this facility wanted to charge me $200 for a procedure that my insurance covered at no cost. I told them what the booklet said and they said that they wouldn't be able to tell me price until procedure is done?! My husband went to them for a cavity. He had teeth issues. They told him he needed that tooth and others pulled. They pull the remainder of his teeth and after $5,000, the dentures dont fit properly. Then he's told the dentures need to be realigned for another $200, but no guarantees. And, their lab is in Orange County so they need him to leave the teeth for 2 weeks. When he originally got the teeth, they weren't ready when they said they would be and nobody contacted him until he was in the chair waiting for them to come put them in. He is fit to be tied, can't eat and wishes he had never gone to them. I went to them with a front tooth cavity. The dentist says, oh it's not save able, so we have to pull it and do an implant. I went for a second opinion and the tooth now has a filling. I think they just love to pull teeth. My current dentist believes in keeping the original teeth as long as possible. read more

I had oral surgeon extraction #21 and # 23 tooth with bone graft and temporally fake 2 tooth with my discount dental plan was $ 2000 +, it was very quick extraction, but when I got home was very painful for a week. The first time I went, I was told that I needed extensive gum surgery ($8000) which I had done. Now, within 30 seconds of my seeing the dentist, I was told that I have a cavity that's too deep and will need x, y & z - plus a tooth that can't be saved and would need an implant. I left before they could tell me how much that was going to cost me. I went to this dental group upon the advise from a friend. The staff was professional, the covid precautions were good, they took one xray, looked in my mouth for 30 seconds or so and told me I needed a root canal and crown. Their estimating computer was down but I would receive via email before the day was out. 3 days later I received a satisfaction survey on line. I gave good Mark's on all except the lack of an estimate. Never received a reply. I called again and was told my pricing was on its way. I finally got the estimate, 1500 root canal and 1700 crown. I went to another dentist who took an xray, looked in my mouth and told me I did not need a root canal. I guess some dentists are no better than used car salesmen. read more

So I can only basis this on my first impression. This has no reflection of the dentist because I never got to meet her. I just want to be fair. They say first impressions are very important and this was mine. When I made my appointment, I was told that I was going to have x-rays an exam and cleaning and that's what I was expecting today.. I punched in the address, and the way I went except it was not giving me the right address. For some reason it kept having to go to another dental office.. so I called asked for some guidance and the girl that answered the phone told me it's by the river next to Bank of America. We'll just so we're clear here Bank of America at the river close down and I guess there's one across the street now. So my question to her was, she said it was past the river and I said pass in and out and she said oh farther. So as I drove down Highway 111 and I passed In-N-Out going eastbound and next thing I know I was in Palm Desert so I called him back again and I said OK I just went past where Bank of America was and I went beyond and I'm lost. Can you please guide me so a woman got on the phone and told me that she said they are literally across from the cheesecake factory at the river. So I found them when I walked in I didn't think I was rude. I just said the directions were a little kind of messed up. I'm sorry I'm late one of the girls there said it did the same thing to me when I was coming here for my interview, so she kind of had some empathy, but the other girl sitting next to her so rude. She just made a little comments like nobody's ever gotten lost in. How can you get lost? Then I proceeded to ask her I am getting a teeth cleaning today, correct and she said oh well you have a 45 minute exam with the doctor and then they're going to come up with a dental plan my thoughts, money and then, after that depends they may or may not and I said to her well I was under the impression when I talked on the phone when I made my appointment that I was getting my teeth cleaned after. She said it just depends on the appointment.. then she was upset that I didn't finish out the application online for first time patient, I said I'm sorry I didn't pay attention to any emails from your company. Then she proceeded to tell me. Oh well you have a my chart here. Here's an iPad. Fill it out.. I proceeded to tell her that I don't have my username or password because I use my mobile Face ID and she said that's OK. We can just reset everything. I politely handed her the iPad back and told her thank you but no thank you and I walked out. I called to ask for the office manager, who didn't seem to care if I wanted to be a patient or not. Patient care obviously is not their top priority. When we go to the dentist, a lot of us don't like to go as it is and then you know we're going to a new and unfamiliar place, I don't think it was all the steps that took place like I wasn't that upset that I was lost. It was more upset that somebody didn't take the time to find out if I was going east or west, didn't matter that someone handed me an iPad to complete my registration. It was the tone it was the rudeness, the matter of fact, tone that just made me feel like this was in the place for me. My first impression was not a good impression. And to be fair, I've never met the doctor, so I can't say anything about the quality of work her bedside manners nothing . I can just say is that the woman at the counter with the hair in the clips, and the very dark make up was not very kind not inviting and obviously didn't care about who I was. I don't write these reviews to be mean to people I write them based on my opinion in my experiences , but if I could give one advice to the dentist, I would definitely think twice, especially if you've had more than one complain about this particular woman, and maybe retrain her? I would've hope that the office manager would have apologized enough and said hey come on back and turn around. Come back and let's move forward. We'd love for you to be a patient here. OMG! The worst customer service from the office staff I have ever encountered! The level of disrespect shown to me tells me that they couldnt care less if I was their patient or not. Where to start?! I went in to see the Periodontist Dr. Herrera. He performed a bone graft in preparation for an implant (I had no issues with the quality of his work). When leaving, the office person told me that my insurance didn't cover the procedures and I had to pay the full cost now (they are an In-Network dentist for my insurance). I knew that wasn't true but didn't want to argue so I paid it. They submitted the claim and of course my insurance payed for their percentage of the cost. It took me months to get the credit from them returned to my credit card. my insurance is asking for a document for one of the procedures before they can process the rest of the claim. I have been asking them to send it since early June. I have followed up with emails and phone calls to verify that they sent it and I get no reply or call back. I had to drive down there to find out it was not sent. The Office Manager, Tanya, stated that she would get the Dr to send it. I followed up three weeks later via an email to Tanya and asked if it was sent. Again, no reply to my emails or phone calls. I called and left a message asking Dr Cabanas (office owner) to call me regarding this issue and I have not received a call back. Not even sure she got the message. I am now looking for another Periodontist to finish the implant and crown a well as any future work. I will never go back to this office again. read more

Every time I go in for a check up I am alway greeted with warmness and made to feel like family. I love it!! Everyone is so helpful, knowable and listen to any of my concerns or questions. When i needed to finance my dental procedure Christopher listened to my questions, help me understand the process and made feel at ease. At that time I told them that I would consent to having X-rays every other year (the ADA recommended interval is 2-3 years)....and dentist Carol Cabanas refused to examine me without a new set of X-rays!!!.......I DON'T want to be bombarded with X-rays every year....not matter how low the dose.....they were aware of that at the beginning of our relationship!
