Like many others, I found Sumaq through TikTok and had to see what the hype was about. I came with two teenage boys and we ordered the larger shawarma. I got the thinner wrap while they got the thicker one. Both tasted pretty much the same, although the thicker wrap had a little more chew. I got mine with the works, but I don't think the pomegranate sauce was included because I couldn't taste it. I ordered extra on the side and really enjoyed it. It adds a nice twist to the garlic sauce. I also recommend asking for extra crispy if you like more crunch in your shawarma. I think I'd skip the coleslaw next time as it felt like a little too much with everything else. The boys kept theirs simple with chicken and fries and both said it was the best shawarma they'd had, so they were definitely impressed. This location was extremely busy when I visited. There are two sides with separate entrances, one for the dining area and another for counter service. I was on the counter service side, and finding a table was definitely a challenge with people waiting for seats to open up. Sumaq has always been popular but got very popular when Kieth Lee posted them! They have a sumaq express for takeout right next to their actual restaurant which is very convenient for people on the go! You have to get the chicken wrap with all the toppings and they top it off with the chicken! It's super juicy and all the ingredients felt fresh! Only thing i say is I would add some sort of rice to it and the wrap did take a while to make about 20-30 minutes. But worth the hype!!! One of the best wraps I've had. I got the Iraqi kabob wrap. The only thing in hindsight is I wish I had asked for it spicy but otherwise it really hit the spot. My table tried the Iraqi, the veal, and the chicken. I would go with the Iraqi or the chicken but ask if they can make it spicy or give spice on the side. After usually getting takeout, my family finally decided to dine in. Typically we avoid dine in as they are always filled overcapacity and it's just chaos inside. And the dine in experience was exactly that. When you first walk in, there is no sign that says please wait to be seated so folks who are new never know who to go to and end up waiting at the takeout corner. There is a guy who is rotating between taking calls at the takeout corner and the entrance putting names on a little paper. If someone else who came after you, caught his attention first, good luck! Be prepared to wait. We were there around 9:30pm yet there was still around 30+min wait time. While I personally would not wait this long, the rest of my party wanted to experience the "hype". Once we got seated there is another really long wait before a server comes to you. They have also put way more tables than they can handle. So you're sitting elbow to elbow. After waiting for a while, we called a server and were finally able to place our order. Then there is another long wait for the food. By the time our platter arrived it was cold. We requested to get hot bread, which they did free of charge. Thank you for that. The food itself was nothing outside the many kebab places in Mississauga. The total came to around $100. Honestly for the prices they are charging is criminal. The entire experience will be very frustrating. Stick to takeout, their takeout prices are more fair and you're getting the same food. Will not be coming back to dine in. I suggest they implement a QR code for a virtual system like most restaurants and reduce capacity. read more

I placed an order for pick up over the phone, on a Sunday (at 5:18) and I was told it will be ready in 25 minutes. I got there in 20 minutes and there was a huge lineup for dine in and inside was packed, too. I went in and paid for my order and patiently waited for my order which was promised to be ready in 5 minutes. I waited and waited, watched everybody else, who placed their takeout order after me, picking up their orders and leaving and no sign of my order. I followed up with the staff a few times and they told me another few minutes, every time! I ended up receiving my order at 6:10pm (52 minutes after placing my order), which was ridiculous! I've been meaning to check this place out for sometime however, it typically very busy. I finally had the chance to check out during the weekday. The food was great, we had the chicken, fattoush (very tasty & tangy), potatoes (probably the least favourite ) & hummus with beef. The experience was tarnished by the level of service. From the beginning, as soon as I came in, it says wait to be seated. I waited until no one approached, I finally went up to request a table. The server took our order and never checked up on us beyond that. We got up to get our own drinks, I requested a plate to eat, never got it. We finally requested our bill & takeaway boxes. I'm reaching out to grab the plastic bag, she chose to drop it on the table and turn around. We felt like we were inconveniencing them through out our experience even paying at the end. Is it nearly impossible to get a table here? Yes. Is it still worth the wait? Also yes. I had initially went to the Sumaq location in Scarborough, which is more of a grab and go spot. I had ordered their platters on several occasions which were always a crowd pleaser. This time around I got to dine in at their Mississauga location, which I believe has a slightly different menu. My boyfriend and I just got the Veal topped Hummus since we weren't too hungry, and we were still barely able to finish it. Not only was the portion size quite large for an appetizer, but the hummus and meat were absolutely delicious! Will definitely be back again, hopefully Sumaq continues to expand since it is becoming a favourite of many! read more

We had enough leftover to eat the next day and were full then, too! We will say that chicken meat is superior and the veal meat is just okay. It's our second attempt there and this time, there's no lineup. (But we later found out the sad part that the lines are probably caused by the slow kitchen, not the food.) Apparently they don't offer normal water and we were charged for 2 water bottles that we did not open. So we complained! We also saw no other tables got complimentary water. I thought it was normal for most sit in restaurants. The decor is nice and there are lots of seating area, all in front of a large open kitchen with ovens and their large shawarma in display!! That was cool to watch. But after 35 mins, I lost interest. We got free lentil soup which was nice as I was starving. And yes, I waited over 35 mins for a chicken shawarma plate/dish in which I could see it like 3 metres away from me. Lots of takeouts - somehow, but diners waited. The chicken was thinly sliced and cooked again which dried it up. At the end, it was hard to swallow and finish it. The cold potatoes were at least decent. And three types of rice was alright. You know it's good when you are waiting 30 mins to eat shawarma and grills. This was my first time having samoon. The soft bread with perfectly cooked shawarma paired with the creamy garlic sauce was a dream come true. The coolest part is that bread is made in house making this an even more authentic experience. In my brief stint in Canada , I realized what I always missed most there (besides the northern hospitality) was the amazing halal food there. It was a Saturday night and this place was packed and poppin'. Just organized chaos and all the food action was going on behind a glass wall. The process was so mesmerizing that after placing my order , I was watching all the action going on in the back. I had a mixed meat shawarma and I gotta say it was the bomb.com (see picture for size) . It had weight, was juicy, kept itself together, each bite had everything in there and I gotta say, that held me for the rest of the night (dessert was tough to fit in). Sumaq is super hyped up thanks to social media, and while I agree they do make a good shawarma wrap, I don't think the wait is worth it. We ordered 2 wraps to go, and the initial wait was 40 minutes.. then it became 50.. then it became an hour. The restaurant is also not very organized and the staff don't exactly help you, so there's a lot of standing around, hoping your order is called out and not just put to the side/ignored. Dining in was an even bigger nightmare, with customers complaining left, right and centre because of space issues and reservations that were not honored (you hear a lot when you wait an hour for food lol). If we have Sumaq's again, it will definitely be a call ahead or uber eats order. read more

Very very busy plaza with festive ambience, packed with people and vehicles. There's a long lineup in front of the restaurant. Along with many others, we waited about 45 minutes outside of the restaurant to get a table. Busy restaurant but good service, good food. We had Potato Chop, fresh and delicious filled with nicely seasoned grounded beef. Beef Borek, good as well. Iraqi Kebab, comes with naan, rice and fries making the overall serving really large for one person or even two, though the size of the kebab skewers are just about average, taste wise also about average. read more

Went here on a recommendation and it was worth it. A pizza oven, tandoori oven, rotisserie, it has it all. 2 different types of bread lots of meat options and you have to try the puree lentil soup. The strip mall is possibly the only place with halal restaurants or something? It's jammed packed through out the day. The first time we visited this plaza we couldn't find a place to park until we went around the circular drive that goes behind the shops - but guess what - there are shops back there too! We have been going to the scarborough location as its close to toronto, we decided to trek to mississauga to try the sit down restaurant. It was busy and there was a lineup out the door, we were seated quickly and i found the chairs to be cramped as our chairs were tightly placed between other chairs so you would back onto people behind you. As we were seated few other parties were seated so we waited for our order to be taken. Atmosphere was busy and loud and there was lot of activity as all tables were taken and it was uber busy. Girl was running around to take orders and she took orders for the bigger tables and forgot us so i had to get up to let her know and she offered that she will come to take the order. We placed the order and the waiting for the food started. 15 mins passed and we started to see massive platters make way to the tables that were seated after us, we patiently waited and after seeing more tables that were seated after us were getting their food i had to engage the waitress to check on our food, she went and checked and said sorry grilling takes long and there are three orders ahead of us. We waited some more and after 40 mins our food arrived, the food portions seemed smaller and the plate did not include garlic sauce (scarborough location gives garlic sauce). The bread was cool so i asked for fresh bread and she resisted and said you will have to wait a long time so i accepted the cold bread. Things did not fare well as the lamb was way overcooked and lacked flavour, comparatively scarborough location has lamb that is bursting with flavour. When i asked for the bill i also asked for a container and the person asked another girl for box and i added a paper bag for bread. She rolled eyes at me and was disgustingly rude - i would have been verbally responsive, but i let it go. I did share my comparison with the waitress who took the payment and her response was that is a take out location only - not true. A bit to justify lower quality food a d service because of them being a sit down restaurant. For a restaurant like this the waitresses had attitude that was not expected. This is not fine dining and these girls had a massive chip on the shoulder. I would have reached out to the manager but they were so busy that i did not want to waste my time. I don't understand why anyone would go to a restaurant for food that serves subpar food. My second notch for a mississauga restaurant that was below acceptable for their food, service, and practises. The service was wonderful and the mezzeh delicious. Very authentic Iraqi food. I did try the kebabs and the meat is either a blend of lamb and beef or lamb. We were visiting Canada from Chicago and kept seeing a huge line outside this place...all day nonstop all weekend..my husband tried the shawarma from their express store next door and it was delicious. When we got to our hotel, we saw they delivered and decided to try the whole chicken combo as well as their hummus and baba ghanouj. Wallah I have never had anything like it before. This chicken melts in your mouth!!Not exaggerating. My kids inhaled the food. If people are leaving negative reviews because they are expecting miracles and amazing instant service when they are THAT busy...kindly get your mental health examined. The service was terrible. My family of four came foe lunch. We placed our order together. My daughter and I were served our meals while my son and husband waited almost 35 mins before being served. I asked the waiter several times to check in and she said they had our order and did not know why there was a delay. They finally served my husband and son when my daughter and I finished eating. I was disappointed as I was not able to enjoy the meal with my family. When I asked the manager to compensate me for the delay he said I'd have to wait until 1pm when their desserts are ready and he woukd give me free dessert .
