I just tried my first mix wrap from Sumaq and IT IS SO GOOD! It was very just at midnight on a Saturday and for good reason too! The wrap had a perfect mix of meat, vegetables, and sauce. The bread itself looked like it was being cooked in-house in a tandoori oven and it tastes absolutely delicious with such a nice 'bounce'. Sumaq is one of many restaurants along "Shawarma Row" on Lawrence. Well worth a visit and I will be back to have another wrap and to try more items on the menu! read more

We had the Iraqi Kebab Plate and the Supreme Chicken Shawarma. Both are excellent options I would highly recommend. The Iraqi Kebab Plate's serving size is big. Depending on the person, you can either indulge and eat it all in one seating or eat just enough and take a portion to go. The Plate comes with 2 sauces and a side of grilled veggies to balance out the meaty taste. Their Supreme Chicken Shawarma is top-tier. It is densely packed with thin slices of meat, sauces, and other fillings. Everything is packaged together in their freshly made tanoor bread that is soft and cripsy. Right before serving the tanoor-wrapped shawarma is slightly pressed against the grill to give it that welcome burnt crisp taste. What stood out as a little different was that the shawarma wrap has something like coleslaw inside. It gives it a unique flavour profile compared to many othet shawarma wraps. Overall, the Kebab Plate and especially Supreme Shawarma Wrap are among the best in class for Kebab and Shawarma. Next time I come in I would try out their Veal meat options. My only suggestion is I hope that they put in more description as to what is included in the menu items as displayed on the menu board above and behind the counter. The first thing I noticed when I walked in was how bustling this place was, which made it even more impressive the rate at which they prepare your order. I got the Veal Schwarma (spicy) with baklava and Basbousa for dessert. For the Schwarma, they use tandoor bread which was fresh and crispy, as were the ingredients they used inside, which they give a generous portion of. My only grievance is that the bottom half of the tandoor where all the hot sauces were was a tad soggy. As for the baklava, it was moist, sweet, and flaky, all in the right place--the Basbousa was just as good. I ordered the veal shawarma wrap, the meat was freshly sliced and seasoned so incredibly well. I chose tabbouleh, sumac onions, garlic sauce, tahini, pom sauce and pickled turnips as my toppings. Everything was perfectly balanced with no overload of sauces or veggies. The ingredients were incredibly fresh, the veal was tender, juicy, and packed with flavour. The pomegranate sauce took the wrap to another level -- perfectly balanced and truly unforgettable. Everything was wrapped in warm, freshly baked tanoor bread that tied it all together beautifully. The bread is lightly toasted giving it the perfect crunch on your first bite, but still soft throughout the sandwich. Sumaq is the top shawarma spot in the GTA for me--no competition. I've used it for so many big moments: my best friend's bridal shower, a post-wedding debrief, even celebrating a friend's conversion. It's always come through, whether for a casual meal or a special occasion. I'm lucky to be closer to the Scarborough location because, from what I've heard, it's miles better than the Mississauga one. The service is great. The only downside is the limited seating, but honestly, I don't mind when the food is this good. I always go for the full roll--nothing beats eating it fresh. The cut-up platter doesn't hit the same, but it's clutch for parties and get-togethers. If you go, do yourself a favour and get the Iraqi veal shawarma. Highly recommend! read more

order number 357 on July 17 at around 5:45 i ordered 2 supreme veal, 1 supreme chicken shawerma after the sandwiches came to the counter i noticed they look exactly the same as regular sandwiches, i thought i paid more for size . the young lady at the counter spoke to the chef who took the wraps, unwrapped them and shockingly added one small spoon of white sauce at the top of the wrap of course which became mooshy once rewrapped again and guess what only to the chicken sandwich, then he did something awkward, he unwrapped veal wraps and rewrapped them again. I ask the young lady what is the difference between supreme and regular , she said NOTHING !!! extra 5$ for nothing, since i was running out of time and had to go to an appointment i didnt have the time to argue. The chef - if deserves to be called one - and other people working at the prep station had really big Zero hygiene , scratching their heads, toughing their noses, picking stuff from the ground with their gloves ... we are facing more than a bad sandwich. Is this Canada where values and work ethics are respected, are the community standards changing because of unqualified uneducated ( i mean no knowledge or training on work ethics ) . anyways Sumaq has a huge crowd of clientele , i dont think one or even 10 unhappy customers are going to make a difference. read more

I got a chicken shawarma with fries, garlic sauce and coleslaw and as someone who can put away a lot of food in one sitting, I was surprised I could eat two separate times and be fairly satisfied with each portion. After seeing so much hype on TiKTok about these chicken shawarma wraps with freshly made tandoori bread, I had to try it. It was awesome! I watched them make the bread baked on the side of the tandoori oven too. This bread instead of pita bread is much more delicious! Tandoori bread is $1 extra. But I learned you have to ask for pomegranate sauce before they make the wrap. So they gave me some on the side. Wish they had that instruction on the menu. The sauce makes it unique. This sauce was a big reason for coming so I'm not giving top marks because I almost didn't get it at all. Service was very friendly and fast. I arrived just after they opened at 11am and quickly started to get busy closer to 12 noon. Ambiance was comfortable and enjoyed a seat near the window. It was huge and ate half and saved it for later. But unfortunately the bread soaked up so much of all the sauces and was completely soaked! So best to eat as much as you can when you get it. This place is magic. After seeing multiple online bloggers review this place, I knew it was time I tried it. We ordered two chicken shawarma wraps with the added $1 for the homemade wrap. Sumaq Iraqi Charcoal Grill is an Iraqi restaurant that serves up some great traditional food. You can find everything from chicken shawarmas, kebabs, and tikka platters. The chicken shawarma wrap and mixed shawarma plate is what I opted for. The service was mediocre as it seemed like they just wanted to rush everyone and didn't bother explaining anything. The wrap was over $11 as I got the Tanoor bread which added another dollar to the already expensive wrap. Of course we got all the toppings with some hot sauce on the side. The wrap was seared on the outside leaving this nice smokey flavour but really lacked seasonings overall. Some of the chicken was moist and some parts were dry and needed some extra hummus and garlic sauce to scarf down. For that price it was quite a let down, it was really thin - leaving you unsatisfied like Drake's leaked pic At first glance it seemed like the shawarma plate was massive, like it was blessed by the food gods with double D's. However as you take off the top it was a fraud, as all the food was pushed up as it had pre-portioned sections to separate the salad, potatoes, rice and sauces. Personally I didn't like that as I wasn't able to mix everything together. I also found the veal and chicken dry and the sauce for the potatoes was a little too vinegary. We went for the Iraqi brunch on a Saturday, we were a large group, and we each ordered something different to try their food. Hamza was helping us with the orders, and he was absolutely great, very patient, professional, knowledgeable, and helpful. The food was great. I tried the kubbet elsarai, and I also tried the Kaahi and Gaimer. Both were great. I especially enjoyed the kubba: Large enough but I was able to finish it, the meat stuffing was of great quality, and the soup tasted delicious. Some other foods that I did not try personally but were a hit with my family: Mekhlema and meat Shawerma. The atmosphere was what I was hoping for: Welcoming, not too loud, so it felt lively but we were able to carry on a conversation without yelling. All the staff were great and very professional.
