Summer Hours is the cutest, best little salon in LA! I feel welcome and comfortable every time I walk through the doors and legitimately look forward to returning which I cannot say about many places in town especially salons. In the past I've been to salons and just felt so out of place and frumpy but all the stylists at SH are friendly and not at all pretentious. The vibes are just right! Amanda, the owner, has been coloring my hair for about 5 years and she is absolutely the best of the best. My blonde balayage always looks perfectly natural and healthy and grows out flawlessly. I know that if for any reason Amanda was unavailable that all of the stylists at Summer Hours would be able to knock it out of the park because Amanda has done such an incredible job building her team of independent stylists. The salon itself is bright, open, and pretty. Parking is beyond easy, it's free on the street right out in front of the salon. I moved to Austin 3 years ago and made the grave mistake of trying to find a colorist there, after allowing 3 different stylists to damage my hair I realized the error in my ways. I now make sure to squeeze in an appointment with Amanda every time I'm back in LA for work or pleasure. If that's not a testament to how truly incredible she and Summer Hours are then I'm not sure what is. read more

Where do I begin? Amanda Riley of Summer Hours has done a gorgeous job of creating a safe, inviting space for her fellow independent stylists and their clients. I popped in this last week to see Ash Bazar, this was my first appointment with him and first time inside Summer Hours! Everything is clean, thoroughly sanitized, socially distanced, masks worn. I have been rocking a curly pixie cut since June, and was looking for a more polished but edgy style. Ash did a FABULOUS job working his magic to create my dream cut. He is a true artist. I absolutely cannot recommend Faye hard enough! I've been growing out a pixie but was suffering thru what felt like an endless "ugly" phase with it and finally decided to see what could be done. I could not have dreamed of a more skilled and sensitive stylist. Faye is a super attentive listener- hearing not just what was frustrating me, what I wanted, what I like to do on a day-to-day basis.. but also really like listened to my hair and what *it* wanted to be. She's incredibly perceptive and clearly experienced. She's an exceptional communicator, frequently checking in throughout the process and fine tuning along the way. Extremely sensitive about keeping the length I wanted. We're one cut in and she already has my undying trust and loyalty. She's experimental and excited to try new things, but also patient and clearly cares about setting you up for success. She's obviously a rockstar at shape and proportions and textures, but she made it seem like a totally effortless process to give me a totally effortless look. I'm blown away. Faye is such a freaking gem! I am overdue for this review so for the sake of efficiency, bullet points: 1. When I first went in for a cut with Faye, I think I blabbered some incoherent stream of conscience for 2 minutes straight. Somehow she knew exactly what I wanted (much better than I did!) and totally delivered. 2. My hair is naturally pretty flat, but Faye cuts in so much bounce and body (even when I let it air dry). 3. After my first cut with her, I ended up waiting way too long before coming back- but that was partly because she did such a great job. My hair grew out so nicely I honestly didn't realize how long it had been- I just started to notice my ends looking shabby and realized it had been 6 months since my last hair cut. 4. Faye is just plain lovely to be around! She is warm, bubbly, attentive, and so sweet. I immediately felt at ease when I met her. I have a million other little details I want to add but suffice to say- Faye is just the best. read more

this one's for amanda (you a diamond). * i love my cut. i've been lucky enough to have some all-stars go at my "cousin itt" hair before, but i've never had much of a reaction towards it afterwards, let alone this one. to top it off, i never once felt rushed (she took the time to help me gauge what i was shootin' for and showed me tips on how to amplify it with a round brush), the shampoo and conditioning bit felt so stinkin' good as did the blowout. i sure appreciate the experience. p.s.: the salon has the perfect feel and parking was an ease (just in front). 5 stars and then some. read more

I'm hesitant to write this review but I don't want this to happen to anyone else. I was recommended this salon by a friend and booked an appointment with Ashley. I asked for a small trim and darker color. I've been coloring my hair on and off for years and have never had any issues. My hair was the healthiest it had ever been prior to the appointment and I genuinely liked the color she did for me. But one day after the appointment, my hair started breaking off and coming out at the root in clumps. I contacted Ashley to find out about the treatment and dye she used. She offered for me to come in for an additional treatment. When I told her I didn't feel comfortable with that as my hair was still rapidly falling out, I asked for some kind of compensation. She responded that she had completed an investigation and was not responsible for the issue... I've since been to my dermatologist who 100% confirmed the treatment or dye caused the hair trauma/sudden loss/ breakage and thought the dye was left on for too long. She created a TikTok while I sat with the dye on my head in the salon. On top of this, at the end of my appointment Ashley asked if I had Venmo and then requested that I pay for the entire appointment in cash, totaling over $300. Overall, I'm so dissatisfied with my appointment, the customer service, and my hair is still falling out weeks later. I tried to figure out a solution with Ashley before writing this review but was unable to do so. I'm sure the other stylists at the salon are great but do not book an appointment with Ashley. read more

This salon is a cute little place in the heart of silver lake. One of the stylists, Claire, cut my hair and did such a terrific job. I usually go to barbershops, but I'm glad I decided to go to this salon instead. She is very versatile and gave me the perfect layered cut. She also was able to give me thorough answers and instructions regarding how to take care of my hair. Claire is beyond knowledgeable and genuinely took the time to understand what kind of haircut I wanted. She is professional, personable, and trustworthy. I LOVE this salon, it really has everything you would ever need. Amanda the owner has been doing my hair for years (our relationship started when she performed one of the best color corrections EVER on me and I've never looked back) and being able to see her build and open a salon during a pandemic has been amazing. The salon itself is perfectly decorated, clean and goes above and beyond when it comes to COVID precautions. It also has an awesome outdoor patio where they offer haircuts or a place to process and enjoy to LA weather. I highly recommend visiting this great new Silver Lake salon. read more

First of all, adorable little salon! I wanted to cut off about 12" (bring my hair from mid chest to mid neck length) and have some soft highlights added to give my hair dimension. I went to Courtney on a friend's recommendation and she was AMAZING She consulted with me at the beginning to discuss what I wanted, understand my goals and concerns and break-down the maintenance required. This was all really helpful for me and made me feel confident of what I was getting into. I absolutely love what she did! This cut and color was end of June, I just went back for a cut and tone last week so early September. The color has been growing out so naturally (which is her specialty) I highly recommend her and this sweet little salon. I have now had 2 great experiences there and definitely plan to go back! read more

My hair wasn't in great shape when I arrived but I somehow left in worse condition. The claim of being a "curl" hairdresser is not accurate esp I've had cuts with a true curly hair expert. The hair cut butchered my natural curl pattern and chopped bangs that didn't seem to realize that curly hair gets shorter when it's dry. Luckily hair grows and I will have to straighten my hair until it does. Thank god for hats! Nice salon though read more

I booked an appointment for a "long haircut" with this Salon and had a bad experience. I was 6 minutes late to the appointment and when I was having the initial consultation the stylist spent 10 minutes talking to me before saying the cut would have to be dry because I was 10 minutes late (I was not) and she had a client booked for an hour after my service. She did not offer to lower the price of the haircut for doing this. I agreed to the dry cut while expressing my concern for not having ever had one and my concern that not allowing clients a grace period- especially for long hair, which, in my experience, always takes a little more than an hour. She then canceled the appointment saying I wouldn't be happy with it-- overall it was an unprofessional experience. read more
