I went on vacation for two weeks and paid in full when I dropped off the dog. My first and only red flag was when I went to drop him off, they had the side door open and I looked inside. Wow, crates are small and stacked on each other and the place was dirty. I should have walked away, but I didn't have a back-up plan For boarding. They told me that they take the dogs a bath before you pick-up, I said ok and left him. I picked him up two weeks later and OMG, my poor baby was so dirty and smelled really bad. I called three days later to let them know what had happened and the girl on the phone told me I should have said something at time of pick-up. Ok, I could have but the place was full of people and I'm not one to make a scene. I called back this week to board him for 2 nights to find out that they put my dog on a DO NOT BOARD LIST. I asked why and they told me that I called to complain and that I had said that because of the condition of my dog at pick-up, I needed to take him to the vet for blood work. I NEVER SAID THAT! He was just dirty, a good bath would have been enough. Long story short, they lie about taking the dogs a bath, they lie about what people say. They are so unprofessional. When they finally took my dogs, one was handled so roughly I cringed. They agreed to vaccinate my dog, didn't do it, still exposed him to other animals, then kicked us out because I dared to be concerned about their sloppy handling. My dog is now coughing -- exactly what the vaccine was supposed to prevent. Summit's response? "Find a new vet." No apology, no help. Only bright spot? The groomer is wonderful -- if only she ran the place. Plenty of vets in Chicago treat pets (and owners) with care. This is not one of them. read more

Normally I have a good experience at summit but today I took my poodle to their groomer I asked for a trim and shape his fur on his feet. What I got was a scalped poodle you can see his skin. I got called to pick him up and was told they had to cut him low because he was matted I said Noo he has crinkle textured hair on his head and back ( mind you I brushed him this morning and every morning with the wire brush) The associate says no he was matted the shears could not cut him. I'm left thinking what dog not mine. The fact that no one called me about the finding to check if that's what I want them to do. I brought my dog into Summit Animal Hospital because he wasn't himself. Wouldn't eat, drinking water or walking.. we had to lift him to let him outside and had to feed him by hand. Feeling like something is going on, we brought him into SAH.. when we arrived, yes, the wait was long. However, once we were put in a room, we were seen right away.. we were given top notch attention. Dr. Lizzy (I think) looked over Gizmo, decided an xray was best, after the xray, we found out that he had bladder stones, some still in the bladder but some that where passing thru his urethra and that's why he was in so much pain. Dr. Tracy (head doctor) came in to explain they would need to do surgery right away, they have to push the stones back into the bladder from the uthera and then open the bladder to remove all the stones, definitely a major surgery. Dr. Tracy did suggest another treatment, but it would not eliminate the stones completely or the pain, we felt it best to follow the Doctors orders and allow Dr. Tracy to do surgery. They stayed after hours to perform this invasive surgery, and I thank you all for that. They kept him overnight to make sure he was doing well. I can't say enough about how loving and caring Dr. Tracy and her staff are. While there, I dealt with Marisa, Dr. Tracy and Dr. Lizzy, which were all spectacular. Very professional and understanding, because let me tell u, I am not easy to deal with, especially when it comes to my family (which includes my animals) A couple of days later, Gizmo wasn't eating or drinking. Without hesitation, Marisa asked us to bring him in immediately. When we arrived, Marisa took us in right away. They did blood work on Gizmo and gave him fluids and vitamins. They refilled his pain pills and his antibiotics. Dr. Tracy, Marisa and Dr. Lizzy, thank you, thank you thank you... you are simply the best. I love how you care for the animals and how they are your priority, it means alot to me and my family. You can't ask for a better group of Veterinarians. I came this morning maybe around 9:30/10am. But yes, the reviews are correct, the wait is long. I was there about 2 hours and that includes my fat babygirl Kendra getting checked. But the staff were super kind and answered all my questions and concerns. Everything from allergies to oral health for my dog. They have a little run down field next to the parking lot which was perfect for my dog to use the bathroom (yes I brought my own bag to pick it up). Beyond that is a very nice park with a jungle gym and I believe a tennis court. The cost is very much worth the wait. I was expecting a 200/300 dollar bill for services alone. A little over 100 dollars for exam AND medication is a life saver. Thank you guys so much. read more

1st Visit with my Yorkie and OMG! Excellent Service all the way around. My Yorkie will be 14 years old April 2020. She normally don't let anyone touch her but got a full tour of the facility in the doctors arm. She got annual shots, grooming and meds. 5 STARS FOR BIG LUIS!!!! He was so patient and kind and genuinely tried to help everyone anyway he could! Everything else about this place is a mess. Guy at the Parking lot entrance gave us the wrong information. My dog was supposed to get a standard crop for his breed, they didn't tape his ears nor put gauze after at all, didn't even bother giving us a cone and so we had to ask and pay extra for it. When I asked, her response was "well he hasn't scratched them since he's been here" even though he was there for LESS THAN 24 HOURS. Soon as we got out of the car, he was trying to scratch like crazy. The stitches are almost an inch apart so he won't stop bleeding. Didn't explain what the medication was or what it was for. Once checked in we waited another 30 minutes. My 6 month old French bulldog wasn't fully examined...paw for paw. He was taken back for x-rays. The X-rays didn't show anything wrong. But We left feeling more confused because there was no explanation of why he was limping. My puppy wasn't walking enough for them to see which leg had the limp, but I did hope more of a exam to see what exactly caused his pain or limp. They need to learn to treat emergencies as just that, an emergency, instead of making someone with a cat who's having trouble breathing wait almost an hour to which the poor cat dies. I brought my very sick cat who was having trouble breathing and the lady who checked us in treated it as it was no big deal when I told her he wasnt breathing properly. I then waited almost an hour until I went up to the desk and she finally had someone look at my dying cat. they rushed him to the back and not even 10 mins later I'm told hes dead. that he had fluid is in lungs which means that hour I sat there waiting(even though I came is as an emergency and should have been seen right away) he slowly suffocated to death. ***This place is wonderful with no questions asked** I would like to tell you my story my dog was over due for going to see the vet. I looked at his paper work and he was behind in his shots. I was looking high and low for a place that would give great service and won't hurt my pocket so bad I called a friend and she gave the information for this place. What a blessing. I was able to bring my dog in the next day Parking was very easy When I walked in this place I was greeted with so much kindness. We did not have to set long before it was time to walk to the back. This was my dog 1st time at this place but he was so nice to everyone. If you know your pet it will let you know we have got to go. Lol The Vet was so great with him. After he looked over my dog paper work and giving him a full exam. The Vet was able to tell me all the shots he needed and that he had a small ear infection. Our Vet visit was great it has been a few days that my dog has been taking his MED's for his ear infection and he is doing great. Delevan is playing around the house and he has not had no change in his eating habits. And trust me we will be going back to this place for our Vet visits And it was so wonderful that this place did not break my pocket. Long review but in short - they love to prescribe meds to fix everything but when it comes to a real urgent situation with your pet, find a reputable vet! I've learned many professionals that work with animals do not recommend this place and they carry a poor reputation! Brought my dog 1 hr 1/2 before they opened as their wait times can get really crazy. We brought him in because he had been trying to pee since 2:30 AM but couldn't. He was seen by 9:15 AM, was told he had a swollen pancreas (made no sense) that was blocking his bladder caused by needing to be neutered so they gave him a shot for the swelling, a catheter to empty his bladder, meds and scheduled a neutering for a week and a half later (odd). Was told I could come back if he still could not pee to reassess and possibly do an emergency neuter if needed. Since they closed that day at 2 PM I wanted to try and get my dog to pee to avoid having him wait until the next day if we needed to go back. My dog had tried all morning/early afternoon to pee but could not so we returned around 1:20 PM. The staff seemed annoyed we were back but he was so uncomfortable. After waiting over an hour, a tech came out, said they already did a catheter, as if to explain what was wrong with my dog, then told me if he can't pee by tomorrow, bring him back between 9 and 12. Again tried explaining he's been trying to pee, that they said it was a swollen pancreas (again odd) and was told he may need emergency neutering but again he repeated they already did a catheter and to come back tomorrow. This didn't sit well with me but we've been there before so we went back home hoping the meds just needed time to kick in. All night he was so uncomfortable and is really trying to pee but can't, the meds aren't working and we started to worry that his bladder would rupture if we waited any longer. At 3:30 AM I take him to an emergency room where the Vet tells us that they gave him a steroid that caused frequent urination which is not a good call for a dog that can't pee, his prostate is in-fact swollen NOT his pancreas, and he needs to have an emergency neuter within the next 48 hrs and his bladder could have ruptured. The vet also specifically said "DO NOT take your pet back to Summit, they DO NOT practice safe medicine and there are plenty of other reputable vets in your area to take him to.". I am so grateful for the ER we took him to. They walked me through everything in detail, were kind and gave me places I could get an emergency neuter as they did not have the ability to do it themselves. They even offered to continue to monitor him and relieve his bladder if we could not find a place to perform the emergency neuter that same day. They saw him for free! We got extremely lucky and that is how bad they felt that we took him to Summit. We found a vet that could take him in the morning and perform the surgery. They also walked us through everything with patience and care and he is now at home recovering. Many people recommend this place as they are more affordable and they seem friendly. My grandma takes her dogs here and recommended it for those reasons as we have 3 pets and medical bills for pets get expensive very quickly. But, what we've come to learn is that people that work with animals do not recommend this place. I've had at least 3 professionals over this stressful weekend tell me to find another vet. I don't tend to write reviews and if I do it's usual over positive experiences but our pets are family and we would have been so torn if we had lost our dog and I would hate for any other family to go through a situation like this. Do your research, shop around for a good vet, have a list of places you can take your pet to incase of an emergency, and trust your instincts if something doesn't feel right or your questions aren't being answered. read more
