    Sassafras Harbor Marina Yacht Sales

I can only review the yacht sales, but I will never, ever do business with Joe Smith or Sassafras…read moreHarbor Marina. We were under contract to purchase a vessel and Joe took it as a personal insult when we wanted to get a boat history on the vessel so we would know what maintenance was done and what we would need to do. Joe met with us and immediately started with "no one has ever done this" and when I asked a question, told me that I asked "idiotic questions". Truth is, some of the information wasn't accurate, so we assumed the vessel owner made an error (not Joe) and just wanted to get it all straight to make an informed decision. Instead of discussing it with us, Joe said "where did you get that document"--a document that was on his letterhead and supplied to us via email from his staff. Things escalated quickly and he jumped up and said "why don't you cancel the contract", which we promptly did. I have never encountered someone so unprofessional in my entire life and I certainly don't have to spend money with someone like that. Unfortunately, the owners will likely never know that Joe Smith cost them a sale. It is clear that Joe has his staff terrified and they cower every time he barks. The lovely staff member, Sue, came out of her office while we were walking away and his words to her were "you are dismissed-you don't have to talk to her (me)". I wasn't even speaking with her but he was so disrespectful to her that I felt bad for her. No one should have to put up with that.

I was looking to purchase a small outboard motor and saw good reviews for Yamaha engines. Seeing…read moreAnchor Boats selling them I called to inquire about their inventory. I wanted a 2.5 HP motor and was told they had one in stock. I said I'd be there the next day. I drove to their location near US Route 40 and entered their showroom. I stood around for about 15 minutes before someone asked if I was being helped. Glad to finally have my presence acknowledged I asked for help. After finalizing the purchase I was directed to their marina south of town to pick up the motor. The salesman called ahead to let them know I was coming. I got to the marina and entered the store area. I again had to wait 15 minutes before someone offered to help me. The motor I got wound up not being ready for use. After putting on a small sailboat it wouldn't keep running. After going fo ra couple minutes it would surge and stall. This happened about ten times as I paddled the boat back to shore in 95 degree weather. I suffered heat exhaustion as a result. The next day I put the motor on a jon boat and tried again. Again it kept stalling. I viewed a You Tube video about the motor to insure I was starting it correctly but it kept stalling. After about an hour it finally stayed running. The Anchor technician omitted a couple of steps involved in starting the motor. Even after watching the instructional video the engine was very difficult to get going. Their total indifference to helping customers was very off putting. I won't do business there again.

To walk around this place and see the size of it, it's offerings and the number of vessels there, you'd think they wouldn't give me the time of day or even know that I or my little boat existed. Couldn't be further from the truth. Anytime I call and say my first name and that I have the little Chris, they know who I am and Tom (and the other Tom) are always more than willing to do whatever I need (living in California now). When Sandy hit, I was petrified that my boat was lost. She was safely tucked away and again, when I called they knew just what to say. I've recently had my boat hauled to the west coast and upon leaving, Tom made a lap around the marina to make sure that nothing was left behind from her various storage locations and the machine shop. I can't recommend these guys enough, nor can I imagine what kind of service someone would receive if they had a sizable and operational vessel in a slip! If you're looking, McDaniels is the ONLY place to consider.
