Something fishy going on here. Traded in my vehicle on 2/8/23 and my loan has still not been paid off. BEWARE DO NOT DO ANY BUSINESS WITH THIS DEALERSHIP!!! I have called and been down to the location multiple times to try and gather information as to what is going on with no avail. On 3/7 I physically went down and they promised they would send payoff to Chase... they gave me a tracking number and everything. Today I heard from Chase and the CHECK BOUNCED!!!! I went down again today and demanded to speak with the general manager, Terence Brown (don't waste your time with this loser), about my situation. Brown would not give me any information and then asked me to leave. I told him I would not leave because he essentially stole my vehicle and I either want to know where the money is or where the vehicle is. Brown proceeded to call the police to have me removed. I asked him to speak with the owner, he claims he is the owner - LOL. I still have no information. I know they already sold the vehicle to another party. This business is shady - I believe they are holding onto funds for their own gain. There are multiple reviews online with the same situation. I absolutely LOVED my experience here. About four days ago, I showed up to Subaru not knowing what to expect. I had gotten into a car accident the week prior and needed to find a car pronto. Kind of down in the dumps about my old car, I wasn't exactly excited to find something new, but I needed to because I have to drive to work. When I first arrived, my parents and I were greeted by Franky who immediately asked us if we needed help, heard my story and took me over to the Forrester and Outback section. He let me test drive both and was super helpful even though I had told him I wasn't going to buy a car that day. Later that evening, he even followed up with me and said he hoped to hear from me regarding the car over the weekend. Two days later, I made an appointment with Franky to test drive the Outback one more time because I was almost positive I wanted it. He worked around my schedule without complaint and didn't mind that I was fifteen minutes early. He was AMAZING throughout the entire experience and made first car buying experience easy breezy and very welcoming. Cody, the gentlemen who handled the finance part of the night, was also fantastic! He was super friendly and listened to my needs and budget and answered any questions that I had. Subaru of El Cajon was initially willing to match pricing, but then attempted to over sell/price the same vehicle with unnecessary options and claimed that they were already installed (they were not). I would love to give you the entire story of the absolute worst car buying experience my family has ever been through, but it would be such a long story that I am afraid that you would lose interest, and honestly Our story is so unbelievable.... I don't think anyone would believe what we have been through. So the only thing that I am going to say is that we have been lied to more times then we can count, they do not keep records of the car that we purchased there, they 'order' parts' that never arrive, they told us that our car had features that did not exist, they had our car for months within 2 weeks of purchase to fix many issues on a car, that their mechanics supposedly looked over prior to purchase. They sold us a $3000 bumper to bumper warranty that is not covering major repairs... and they blame it on the warranty company, they take no responsibility for selling it to us, and they continue to sell it on all of their used cars as a 'bumper to bumper' warranty. I honestly feel sick every time I drive by this dealership. We have been there over 40 times since we bought the car a year ago. I've never seen my husband this upset over the frustrations of this car buying experience. I do not understand how they have 4 stars on yelp, I'm missing something for sure. Please think twice before buying a used car from this dealership. We bought a car from this dealership in 2012 and did not experience one problem. They turn over employees every time we are there, and they continue to blame away their turn over as the reason we continue to go through these problems. We don't understand what their incapability to keep employees has anything to do with honoring their word or standing by the product that they sold us. I was hunting for a good while for a forester until I found a nice one on craigslist. Set up an appointment online and met Ren at Subaru El Cajon. Awesome guy, showed me the forester and all the crazy things it has like an awesome "smart" cruise control and dope head unit that reads texts and does calls on voice commands. Test drove it and fell in love with it. Long story short, Ren made me feel super comfortable and made it possible to get my forester. I had left the money for downpayment at my moms house and worked with on time and logistics. Dude even got me an uber to pick me up when I dropped off my old subi. I purchased a used vehicle from Subaru El Cajon in November 2016. I had an excellent experience with the buying process; it was quick, painless, and they gave me a pretty good deal. The headrest on the passenger seat was broken, so they set up a work order to get it fixed. That's really where the "excellent experience" ends. I brought my car in to get the headrest fixed, and my first tip off should have been the attitude of the the ladies in the service department. They didn't seem interested in providing the same great service my salesman showed. I left the car with them and came back a few hours later to find out they needed to order the part (understandable) and it would take a week to get there (also understandable). Fast forward 6 weeks, I still haven't gotten my headrest fixed. I didn't ever hear from them, so I called to check on the status. I was placed on hold for about 10 minutes, then told they had no idea what happened with the part and I'd need to wait for the used car service lead to call and give me an update. I was promised she would call me that evening. The lady on the phone agreed that the lack of communication on their part was unacceptable. No one called me back. I called the next morning and left a voicemail with the service manager, explaining my situation and asked him to call me back personally. Nothing but crickets from him. He must have forwarded my voicemail to the used car service lead, because she did call me back and promised to look into it and call me back that night. Guess what happened? No call. No resolution, still. Not everyone has a good experience when they purchase a car, so I was grateful that part of my experience was painless -- but honestly, because of my experience with the service department, I would encourage others not to buy here. read more

My service agreement for two years had just expired a month ago, I couldnt bring my car in for servicing because I was deployed. I don't think I can express in words just how awful this place is. I purchased a car here and the service is absolutely horrific from start to finish. I came in, picked a car out, they ran my credit, insisted I needed a co-signer. My mother agreed to co-sign, but because she is out of town they would have to mail her the paperwork. The only exterior lock on the car was broken, but the car was equipped with a mediocre aftermarket alarm system that allowed it to be unlocked remotely via the fob. The salesman assured me I could bring the car back at a later time and the lock could be repaired, but at the time the service department had gone home. We then agreed on a purchase price (the MSRP was $13k and we agreed on $12k) and a set monthly payment and interest rate. He drew up the paperwork and mailed it to my co-signer. I asked my mother to send me a copy of the paperwork, unfortunately she signed the paperwork and mailed it off, and THEN sent me a copy. Imagine my surprise when NONE of the figures I had agreed upon were the same. The salesman adjusted the paperwork to indicate the purchase price would be $18k, and my elderly mother didn't notice. BUT WAIT, THERE'S MORE! Shortly after purchasing the vehicle, the battery repeatedly died on me, and I would be stranded in limited time parking spots, often having to pay tow trucks to come jump my vehicle, or being unable to get to work on time, which caused many issues with my employer, Rady's Children's hospital. I replaced the battery twice before a mechanic friend figured out that the trash alarm system was actually what was draining the battery. Unfortunately, I was unable to disarm it because the ONLY key operated door lock was broken. When I returned to the dealership and informed the service crew, they quoted me $269 to fix the problem. I explained that the salesman assured me it would be covered and the miserable broad in the service department drive thru box and her insanely awful customer service is what ultimately drove me to write a review. It's almost as if she derives joy from being mean to people. I mean would it kill you to fake some empathy?! I left unbelievably frustrated and upset. At the end of the day, I paid a total of $20,000 for a $13,000 car to avoid ruining my mother's credit, the lemon they sold me then cost me hundreds of dollars in roadside assistance, parking tickets, replacement batteries, and jeopardized my employment; and it was topped off by some terribly cruel human being treating me like garbage. I would say 'this should be illegal' but then I consulted a lemon law lawyer, who confirmed that it 100% is illegal and actually a very easy case. read more

I bought a brand new Subaru at Dalton Subaru through the Costco auto program and it was a great experience. The front tire started leaking air and AAA said it was the valve stem. Living in far East county, I took it to El Cajon Subaru as it's closer and more convenient than the National City dealership. EC said the warranty didn't cover tires, even though I had less than 200 miles on it. so almost $300 for a new tire. That in itself would have been ok, but after getting the tire, after I got home, it started going flat again. I took it back again and asked how this new tire could possibly have the same issue as the previous new tire. I asked if they actually replaced the original tire with a brand new tire and they said they did. They said it was a coincidence that two brand new tires had the same valve stem issue. Then a third time I got in the car and the tire pressure was low again so one more trip to EC Subaru. This time the service manager Joel got involved. He reassured me it was a brand new tire but he said he was going to reimburse me the cost. He replaced the valve stem on it and so far so good. I understand that stuff happens but I was growing frustrated that it kept happening but I appreciated Joel's gesture. He was very nice, as was Mark. read more

I ended up getting a 2023 Sports trek!!I really hated to part with my Prius but I needed a vehicle that could clear my driveway. A great service department has gotten better! Besides fast service for our Subaru Forester and on-time appointments and meeting commitments, Subaru El Cajon has added amenities in the waiting room. I watched the Giants at Detroit in my tablet - fast WiFi. They now offer chilled bottled water, granola bars and sticky buns along with the coffee and popcorn. So, my husband and I had a less than stellar experience with the service department the other day - one so less than stellar my husband got really pissed off (he has the longest fuse in the world and rarely ever gets upset about anything). We had been contacted because one of our vehicles had a recall issue that needed to be corrected and we scheduled an appointment. We dropped the vehicle off on time and were told it was going to take 1.5 hrs to 2 hrs and then as we were leaving my husband received a text that we could text this number for updates on our service. We decided instead of driving back and forth we would waste some time doing errands. Then 1.5 hrs later we decided to check if the car was ready. When my husband called, they acted super rude about that it wasn't and they couldn't get his car to start!!!! Well there is an ignition lock on the car, but we had taken that vehicle to El Cajon Subaru before and we even have had valets in car lots never have and issue with starting it. When my husband told them how to start it, he was blamed by the service department for having an obscure ignition lock on his vehicle that was harder to crack than Fort Knox! What upset us the most was the attitude that it was all our fault, on top of the fact that, instead of IMMEDIATELY calling us when the vehicle wouldn't start they decided to wait til we contacted them and then give us a TON of ATTITUDE that we were out of line to inquire if our vehicle. THEN to make matters more upsetting to my husband, when they did text when the vehicle was ready (@3:36pm) they wrote that "We close at 4pm SHARP!!! My husband and I are pretty understanding people and are typically unforgiving. Our frustration at the level of service we received was totally based on the fact that the Service Department couldn't start our car and instead of doing the ADULT thing and call to inquire immediately - they wasted 1.5 hrs of our time and then threw the blame on my husband that it was his fault. At least when my husband did pick the car up the service writer did state that he called another Subaru Dealership that did know how our ignition lock worked and that he had seen them before. I purchased a used car from this location last year. It was a pretty positive experience and the car is still running well and I have no complaints. What draws down this rating was an experience we had with the financing department. Every part of seeing the car, test driving, having questions answered etc. was fantastic, but when we got to finance it really went downhill from there. We were VERY upfront with the amount of money we wanted to spend. We had a bank who could finance us at a low interest rate - my husband has excellent credit. We told them more than once that we were NOT agreeing to buy this car, we were only willing to discussing what deal they could make us. We were happy to walk away if the cost was too high. They brought in the head of finance who was a "sleazy car salesman" to a T. He repeatedly said things like "this is your car now!" And we'd push back, reminding him we hadn't agreed to anything. He then broke down the costs and we realized they were charging us for lots of add ons we didn't want. When we asked those costs be taken off, as we would not be adding those items onto the car (ex: scratch resisted paint, safety coating on the windshield) we were told they had added those items already, so we had to pay for them. In the end we were able to negotiate a cost we were comfortable with- because we were willing to walk away, but this man was dishonest, sleazy, and made us almost leave the deal altogether. I can't stress enough that literally every other member of the staff was helpful, respectful, and courteous. But man, that dude in finance needs to take some customer service training. I have been TEXTING with Ray in the service department since 0830 this morning to have my windshield replaced under warranty, it is now 2:06pm. I have told him multiple times to call me which he has not done, hasn't had a manage call me to discuss the warranty. The level of customer service shown at this place is appalling. I have used this warranty three other times and EACH AND EVERY TIME the service department can not find it. I tell them to keep looking and after a little bit of effort on their part the warranty is located and my issues are taken care of appropriately. Don't bother purchasing a secondary warranty, they wont be able to find it, and it will be a fight with them every time. Trading in my 2020 Hyundai Elantra was an absolute nightmare, Subaru of El Cajon did not send my payoff on time putting my credit at risk with my financial institution, and I had to do all the leg work to make sure the payoff was sent and done correctly. I had to make multiple visits in person to see for myself that my payoff was getting taken care of, they sent the pay off after we went in the first time but the check was UNSIGNED (a rookie mistake for a well known business) so I had to wait for a couple days for their GM to come in and sign the check thankfully they did. And after the payoff was sent correctly the Sales Receptionist Carlos yelled at me and talked to me like I was stupid, I tried asking him if subaru would send the additional amount owed since my loan with my financial institution gains interest daily and he said we sent your payoff, and I said I understand that but will subaru cover the additional interest gained? nicely and he continued to say we sent the payoff i don't know what else you want me to tell you! in a raised voice. I was mad at this point so I had to be a bit assertive and restate my question but as I was asking he interrupted me and I politely said can i finish? and he just hung up as a this is my first time trading in a car on a loan. As receptionist my self if a customer asks me a question I don't know an answer to I'd make a note and ask the appropriate person and either have them or myself follow up once doing my research instead of yelling I don't know at my customers. My car deal was excruciating and somewhat traumatic and took my time away from work and my home life more than it should have. Also they put me in a position where my financial institution was calling me EVERYDAY and to not have an answer for my finance institution was stressful. I love my new Subaru but not the customer service here, no one knows what they are doing. I'm glad this deal is closed 2 months later... When it comes to up keeping my new Subaru I will be taking it to another dealer for service, now that the car is in my name i'm not letting Subaru of El Cajon put their hands on my Subaru or money. They are unprofessional, sloppy, and unethical with how they conduct business. So... this is what has happened to my 2004 Subaru Forester while under the professional care of Gregg Abbott the service manager of Subaru Mazda El Cajon. When this Subaru Dealership was owned by Bob Baker Subaru, I bought my 2004 Forester from them, having it serviced religiously on time according to the service schedule in the owners manual, and other paper worked issued when purchased. So... when the dealership was sold to The owners of the Mazda Subaru dealership the quality of services changed. Under the rains of Gregg Abbott, what has currently happened to be Forester is cause to label Gregg Abbott a fraud, and thief. At 120,000 miles all the major work that needed to be do was done. Or I was lead to believe according to the paper work that I signed & paid for. Gregg Abbott was the service manger at the time. You would think you would trust the service manager to properly advise you on what is needed. Come to find out at the 149,000 plus mark that's not the case. That lying pos told me things were being done by his mechanics. Well as of yesterday 1730 in the evening I was told by the current Service Manager Chien, that all these major things need to be done because check engine like came on. That was suppose to have been done at the 120,000 mark. Wtf, this is absolute bs. Totally unprofessional. No I am in the whole for thousands of dollars of work. That should have been done at the 60,000, and 120,000. To me, doing your maintenance is paramount in order to have a properly running car/suv. Who ever is reading this at Subaru needs to EXPELL ASAP! Who is the Corp manager, who is the area Subaru Corp Manager for San Diego! I want someone's head over this criminal crime spree! No, I will not take down this review! We sat down to do the paperwork and all the while, we had wanted to get a car through the Costco program. But after having met Bralin, we thought we could still get a good deal and get him a sale. Bralin was the best. However, his manager was HORRIBLE. His manager is who kills Bralin's deals. We WOULD HAVE paid the same price for a Crosstrek 2.0i THERE, than we ended up paying for a Crosstrek 2.0Premium at another Subaru dealership through the Costco program! The first time I took my car in for service they tried to quote me for oil change and tire rotation. My car is new and I have free oil change and tire rotation. The service writer had no idea about the warranty he just tried to up sell me on other things that I did not need. Also they said my tires were fine, but when I took it to get an alignment (because Subaru was too expensive), the guy said my front tires were completely bald on the inside, which they were. I recently made an appointment to for 30,000 mile service. I had to remind my service writer again that I still had a free oil change under my warranty. I arrived at my appointment time and was first in the drive up line. About 5 cars pulled up behind me and they were helped before I was. 15 minutes later when my service writer came out he acted like it was no big deal. Overall I think their service department is terrible. I guess I'm use to the great service I received at the Toyota dealer when I owned a 4 runner. I only sold my 4 runner and bought a Subaru for better gas mileage. I do love my car, but will not go back to Subaru for future service. I think they are too focused on up selling. read more

Friendly staff but I came in for my appointment at 7:30 for a oil change and tire rotation and my car sat untouched for almost an hour. Which is a pretty blatant disregard for my time. I won't be using this place anymore. read more

Just recently purchased (well leased) my 13th car and couldn't have asked for a better experience. I walked in originally thinking I'd get a forester and changed my mind about halfway through to a wrx. I was very specific with what I could pay down, what my monthly would be and that I absolutely will not have a cosigner. After a little adjustments they met me at every point, even matched a quote I had gotten for quite a bit less than their msrp without a hassle. Everyone from the salesman to the man who does the DMV/financial side was AMAZING. The service department has really stepped up their game lately. One of my first encounters they had to replace a flat tire on my 2017 STI, and they dinged my new wheel (1,000 miles on the car). They were quick to replace the damaged wheel with a new one. I've brought my car in several times since then for things like loose stitching on the passenger seat, popped up passenger front speaker grille (took 2 times to fix this one), rattling passenger front door, and fading leather dye on the driver seat cushion. They have been great every time. Their newest Lyft service is awesome. I'm satisfied thus far.
