We brought our 7 year old cat in as he was having major tooth pain and had stopped eating. Dr Fahimeh Zibaee got him in that very day we called and after careful assessment she was able to schedule him day of for some much needed teeth removal. Our Cat was back to himself the day of and everything went so smoothly. She was very kind and even called to check in on our cat two days later. I could not recommend this Veterinary Hospital more. My family has been taking our pets to Summit Vet for years and years. The people running it when we first started using their services were awesome, then they switched owners a few years back and they were a little iffy but the new, current ownership and team is AMAZING. We had the privilege of having an amazing 17 year old Australian Shepherd we had to put down in the past week. Not only did Dr. Z and the Summit Vet team help us buy a little more precious time with him as he was declining, but they also were SO incredibly caring, sensitive, and knowledgeable when we finally had to let him go. They gave us as much time as we needed and were compassionate and kind. Also took us in immediately even though we gave pretty late notice. They comforted us and treated Ollie with so much gentle love and care. I will never forget how tenderly they carried him out-he could not have had a more painless and peaceful end. Dr. Zibaee and her entire staff gave our senior dog wonderful care during her last months. She had diagnoses, tests, a surgery and boarded a couple times. The doctor and staff were always pleasant and welcoming, always attentive and knowledgeable, and always patient and loving toward our aging, physically compromised dog. Have had pets forever, I am well acquainted with the local veterinary practices. Summit Veterinary is thorough and its staff is very caring. My first experience happened during the pandemic when I had a very sick dog. I had driven all the way up to Los Altos to my old veterinarian but was put in a waiting room for several hours with my poor dog who was in severe pain. After the 3 1/2 hour mark I left, determined to find a practice that could help us. I called Summit Vet, explained the situation, and asked if there was any way the dog could be seen that day. The receptionist said they were full, but that they had an opening the following day. Further, the receptionist promised to check with the vet to see if there was any way we could be squeezed in that afternoon. About 10 minutes after hanging up I received a call back saying they would see my dog in a hour. The veterinarian, Dr. Parvisi, was very thorough, and explained the situation with my dog sensitively and gave me options. He made sure I understood what needed to be done, including various tests due to her (the dog's) advanced age. With an estimate of expenses and my permission, he took action. Thanks to his methodical approach , and teaching (so I understood what the test results meant), my sweet girl has lived a much longer and healthier life. I am eternally grateful. Since my initial meeting with Dr. Parvisi, I have met Dr. Imani and others at the practice. All my pets are now clients here. I can wholeheartedly recommend Summit Vet without reservation. read more

Same issue as T.H. below. Optional vaccines were offered and I said no many times. I was told ok, just sign below and don't mark anything in the list. I returned to find my dog vaccinated and us charged for them. When I question what happened, I was essentially called an idiot for signing. I tried to deescalate as it could have been a simple misunderstanding. And the response was I don't want to loose my job because of my mistake. I left it alone since it was going nowhere. I've used the summit vet for years and never had an issue, but recently ownership has changed. Since then I've found the vet to be extremely pushy in trying to charge me for things it seems like my pet didn't need, specifically things that were extremely expensive. The last straw came today, when they told me it was going to cost 1300 dollars to neuter my dog in addition to the 300 dollars for the pre-op appointment they had scheduled. I can see multiple places online that are charging 300 dollars or less for a neuter. I have no problem spending money on my pets, but being absolutely gouged like this is far beyond what I'm willing to put up with. I called in upon finding this out to ask for the justification for these outlandish prices and they provided zero. The vet tech told me she would put the vet on the phone, but he declined to talk to me presumably because he had no way to justify his abhorrent business practices. The kicker was that despite my appointment being at 5, by 5:30 when we found out the extreme expense of the initial and follow up procedures and we wanted to cancel, we discovered that they hadn't even started anything on our dog. It's sad that I'll be forced to drive off the hill in order to get my pets healthcare from now on, but I highly recommend you do the same unless you want to tolerate being absolutely gouged by these unscrupulous individuals currently running this business. read more

Our experience with the new owners has been less than ideal. We had an incident where they should have alerted me to the severity of the condition of my dog and failed to do so and she nearly died - they had seen her the day before I had to bring her to the ER Vet who confirmed she was near heart failure which should have been evident by a physical exam. Two stars because they've retained their groomer who, for years, has been gentle, calm and patient with our one dog who hates his paws touched and our other dog who is a bit anxious. The groomer is not a fancy pants groomer, she's a get it done type of groomer so if you're looking for someone to primp and fluff and provide a dog show worthy cut, go someplace else. But if you're dog is a smelly mtn dog that just got skunked, he/she will come home fresh and clean. I've also had my dogs get recent vaccinations from Summit Vet without incident but I've left annual exams and medical issues to Los Gatos Cat and Dog Hospital. read more

This used to be a reliably caring, transparent and competent hospital + boarding facility. We recently had an experience, where in after two days of boarding we returned to find several overcharges for services we did not ask for. When you check your dog in, you sign a form indicating the services you want. There were two items we didnt want for our doggo(s) that the super rude assistant, Kendall insisted we asked for but couldn't show any proof. Because it wasnt listed in our intake form! She tried to charge us an extra $200 for the services. She was so condescending about the whole ordeal, even trying to imply that my wife and kids were trying to get away with getting free services, even though she was totally in the wrong. Super sketchy. To make things worse, they handed our 10 year old boxer back limping and bleeding from the quick, which had been cut too short. No antibiotic. No discussion. Additionally, I called back to discuss this issue with management and was hung up on without any inquiry as to what I was calling about. I called back only to receive super disrespectful and condescending harassment from this same assistant. When I asked to speak with the manager, I was told there is no manager on duty. No accountability, really? Animal service and owner's comfort are the purpose of these hospitals, boarding facilities. In this case, they failed miserably and tried to scam us for money on top of delivering sub par services. My advice. Stay clear. Send the message that they have to lead with honor, respect and compassion for the animals and people they serve. read more

I originally moved to Los Gatos from SF during the pandemic. Summit Veterinary was fantastic in Spring/Summer 2020 for grooming and checkups and random queries, like my dog's first tick bite. Their groomer, Lindsay, is exceptional. Well, I came back a year later, in May 2021. Whole different ball game. The practice has been sold. * First I was told my dog's teeth would need cleaning soon. * Then they attempted the upsell about giving my dog high quality food, like Science Diet (prescription of course). * Then they told me that my dog was in perfect health and I had a quick consult in the parking lot with the vet. * I tried to ask questions about DCM and the vet was very equivocal about it--no definitive guidance. The vet implied it was a "fad" a few years ago. And then, they sent a vet tech out with the bill for her annual shots (which was greatly increased from the same vaccinations last year) and they wanted to do a $180 blood panel so that a yearly checkup for a "perfectly healthy" 2 year old dog was going to be...wait for it....$490. I declined the $180 blood panel. The poor tech couldn't even articulate what it was for or what it would show? And the doctor hadn't mentioned my dog needed it. The blood panel was on a pre-printed form--they try this scam on any unknowing pet owner. I've never had a doctor say my dog needs blood work when it's not a senior dog or showing symptoms of well, anything. Fast forward to the next morning when my dog was having a vaccine reaction; she woke up vomiting last night's dinner and bile profusely--5 times in less than an hour. I checked the website--they opened at 8am, and the website said that Summit offered emergency services. Perfect! I thought--I can certainly get her checked out when they open. So I drove up and at 8:00am, the time the website said they opened. As instructed in the parking lot, I called. The woman who answered the phone told me that the vet would not be there until 9:00, so they couldn't help. Then the lady proceeded to rattle that I should go somewhere else. I told her--your website shouldn't say you handle emergencies if you're not open the hours you're actually open. She was heartless and unhelpful. BUT THEIR WEBSITE SAYS THEY OPEN AT 8:00AM on Saturdays, and can "Handle emergencies." But they can't! It's not true! If you don't handle emergencies, don't say you handle emergencies. I'm glad that my pet's situation wasn't more serious, like getting hit by a car. I cannot recommend this practice to others. If my vet can't assist when I'm in an emergency and just runs up the bill during regular times, it's time to find a new vet. read more

We are looking for a new vet and warn everyone on the mountain about these horrible people. They certainly do not care about our pets or us and we all need to find a new vet. I just moved to the area, so this was my first visit to Summit Vet. I was very happy with my experience. I brought my standard poodle, Douglas in for a grooming, but had concerns that he had an ear infection. Dr. Parvizi was able to see Douglas right away and was very thorough. At first the doctor recommended an antibiotic injection, but I was pleased that the office called to let me know that after the bacteria test, they did not think that was necessary (instead of trying to push more drugs and higher costs). The entire staff (nurses and front desk attendants) were friendly and knowledgeable. As Douglas has chronic ear infections, we have visited many vets in the bay area and I think their prices are reasonable. Lindsay did a wonderful job grooming Douglas. She started by sitting with Douglas, giving him treats and letting him warm up to her. She gave him lots of pets and even when it was time to take him home, I could tell he had really grown fond of her. I asked for a short summer cut and I think Lindsay did a great job. I'm so grateful that we have a great vet and groomer in our community. read more

My experience with Summit Vet has been great. My regular vet is in Scotts Valley, but I often end up going to Summit Vet as well if they have an opening sooner than my vet for urgent-ish issues. They always do a very thorough examination, and present me with a treatment plan with all pricing outlined. I am able to go through each item line by line and decide what I want to approve. As with any vet, they put the "Here's what I'd do right now if money was no object" list together, but they also clearly discuss what is absolutely necessary now vs what could be postponed, and what is completely optional. I find them very clear, straightforward, and professional. read more

Like many other reviewers apparently, I've been going here for a long time, and am dismayed how things have gotten worse since the change of ownership. Brought in a cat recently to get her looked at. The bill was more than twice what I was expecting from my previous visits. The doctor seemed to have no interest in talking with me, asking much about the situation, explaining the problem, what might have caused it, or any solution beyond an initial shot. Between my experience & others here, I gave up and am now taking my pets to another vet who's about twice as far away. What a breath of fresh air! The short version, this place is absolutely fantastic! If anybody is looking at reviews, and a little concerned with the four stars, and considering other local emergency vets, please read on. Our 4 1/2 year-old dog has been to five emergency vets in the last two months so unfortunately, we are speaking from some experience. Our boy suddenly displayed significant neurological symptoms a couple of months ago, after several emergency vets, an MRI, a spinal tap, etc. we found out that he had meningitis, an auto immune form of it. The emergency care here is outstanding, the poor guy had to be hospitalized for a few days due to an ulcer and some complications from his medication's. Each doctor checked in at the beginning and end of their shift, they were available for me to call anytime I wanted to check on him, all of the doctors and techs were absolutely amazing. They truly work as a team/family here and really do care for your pet, you can feel it differently here than other offices I've been to. We've had experience both with Dr. Wood, the internist, as well as the ER docs (thank you for all of your time Dr. Rose) all have been great and really take their time with you. If you are looking for a neurologist, this is the place for you. Dr. Johnson has been incredibly caring, intelligent, and I just know that our boy is in good hands. I wish we had been able to see him from the beginning of this journey, but we are so grateful that he is our doctor to see us through this now. Thank you to everybody at Pacific for taking care of our boy Stout, we came close to losing him. We will be forever grateful for your team. read more

This clinic overcharges, and misdiagnosed my dog. I went three times to this clinic and each time was embarrassed and stressed by the amount of tests and products they wanted to do for my dog and by the price that was deduced. The vet techs were very nice and understanding people but I felt ignored by the vet. I went to a different clinic to receive affordable care for my dog and was told that the report that Summit had given such as my dog having arthritis and cataracts was not seen by the new vets. Although I was notified about my dog needing teeth cleaning, I was also not told by Summit that my dog had a fractured tooth, which I think is a pretty big health concern. I would not recommend this clinic as it was very expensive pricing for care that was not adequate or helpful towards my dog. I gave it one star for the vet techs who were sympathetic and understanding when I could not pay the outrageous costs. read more

Easy to book, but the responses from the doc that had to make a vaccination were rude, he was interrupting, talking over me, not listening. Really hard to have conversation with, didn't seem connected with the topic at all. Was assured that potentially unfriendly cat is not a problem, only to find that I was send back later, without any trial to work with the cat - said they found old notes from previous vet and didn't want to proceed. Well, I wish they had checked the notes before wasting my time. Got a invoice for that - which is nothing, they didn't even tried to take the cat out. The only reason I didnt went to my other vet is that they didnt had time slots soon .. They were working with that cat often and without issues. Probably some of the doctors in that clinic are fine, but the one that I got (I don't know the name as they do not allow people inside, had to talk with him from the phone) was definitely un-polite, un-professional ... and lazy. read more

Even when looking at my dogs file can't answer simple questions and I have to explain everything to them. I was not planning on writing this review but now multiple things have happened at this practice in the past month that my family has been going to for years. I brought my French bulldog in to have them send me home telling me that what I thought was a small skin tag that I wanted removed was just a scab and would go away. Weeks later, the "scab"doubled in size and I brought him back in for them tell them to please take it off. Now they labeled it as a wart and within 4 months this wart would fall off or go away. It did not, in fact within the week in grew and started to bleed and smell and the earliest appointment they would give me was 3 weeks out to get it removed. My poor little dog kept getting blood all over the house so I called again and begged to have it taken off within the week. I was very thankful when they squeezed me in. However, they charged me almost $1000 to remove a marble size wart and put in three stitches! I asked for the wart to be sent to the lab just to be sure it actually is a wart and not something worse! I was able to change the bandage myself a few times within the week. They had asked to see him 3 -5 days after the procedure to check the incision site. My mother was able to take him while I was at work and when I went to pick him up they handed me an invoice for over $200 just to change his bandage! They drugged him just to change his bandage and didn't even take his stitches out! Or call to ask me if it was ok to drug him. If you're looking for a new vet, this is not the place. After 20 year of my family going to summit vet we will be making a change. read more

If I could give these guys 0 starts, it would still be too much... VERY, VERY different from the previous owners. I've been a customer for over 20 years, and I will NEVER return to this place again. They forced me to have an office visit just for a regular vaccination (that did not happen with prior owners/vets), and they did NOT check my dog's status prior to accepting them for boarding. Then, already in my travel, they called me and told me that the office visit was necessary for the vaccination. I could just accept, or come back to pick the dogs up again. What a joke and rip-off... No baths anymore after boarding... The attendant actually wrote in the communication that I WAS THE RUDE ONE. Really?? No report of ANY of the office visit... I had to tell the doc what I was worried about, and he just agreed... NEVER AGAIN. I will be disputing the credit-card charge. If you like your pets, do them a favor... stay away from this place. I have to agree with the one star rating. We have boarded our two Doberman pinschers many times at Summit Vet with the previous Dr and Staff and our dogs were happy and well cared for. Our recent stay was with the NEW owners and staff was a disaster. Our female was so frightened when we picked her up that she peed twice while cowering before we could even leave the parking lot. She then peed in her crate in the car. SHE HAS NEVER DONE THIS BEFORE. We explained this to them before we left and they took 0 percent responsibility. They didn't even say "Oh no, I'm so sorry, let's figure this out". First thing they did was to blame our dogs... they must have come in stressed, the normal night person was not there, the dogs were really noisy. Boloney!!! Took her over a week to return to her normal happy self. Not going back. Looking for a good honest boarding place where our dogs will be cared for properly. read more

I appreciated the level of kindness and the way I was included in the appointment, even with the COVID protocols in place. Brought a 2 1/2 week old (female) kitten there to get checked for worms, fleas end mites because it was not using the bathroom. The vet cleared the kitten. When I washed the kitten later I found mites fleas and the vet did not worm my cat as he knows nothing about feral cats. He also could not identify the gender do not bring your pets here it will be a death sentence. For shame you horrible horrible man! read more

This place was great but it was recently sold to a group and it's a whole other ballgame.

My family went here for years. Honestly I'm not quite sure why other than it was close in the mountains to home. I've taken my cats here many times in worst case scenario as vaccination shots are very expensive compared to others in the area. One of my cats got fleas here really badly that weren't normal and spread them through my house. Another time, one of my cats hurt its leg and the doctors at the time wanted me to sign for a $1500 surgery without explaining it. I showed my girlfriend at the time (Now my wife) as she's a professional vet and she said that 30-45 days of rest in a secluded area would allow the hip to recover which it did. We've taken our dogs there and had issues with misdiagnosing things for them. We have an older dog with kidney disease which the doctor tried to prescribe a drug that would just shut down the kidneys and kill the dog which after finally debating with them, we were able to get the regular kidney food we needed to keep her alive. I think the only reason why this place is in business is because some locals go here and have money to burn because they misdiagnose on several things. The pricing isn't competitive and the area isn't the cleanest to infect our home with fleas that quickly. I would only go here again if it was worse case scenario with my experience over the last several years. read more

I've been coming to Summit Vet since 1995. The personal service is beyond first rate. I simply couldn't more highly recommend a veterinary service than Summit Vet. I've been through all aspects of veterinary care with my dogs here. When I got my latest (Poodle Maggie Mae) in 2006, I brought her to Tony Madden DVM for her first check up. Doctor Madden has been integral to our family since then. We've had scares, routine visits, dental issues, and regular maintenance on Maggie ever since. What I like most is that the staff, Alice', Tony, and everyone else knows who we are, treats us as Family, and presents solid advice on a plan of action. Like so many of us, our 'pets' (struggle to use that word) ARE our Family. Summit Vet GETS that. In Spades. If I could count the number of times I've had side-bar conversations with Alice' in the waiting area about what's what, or how to handle a situation...coupled with the number of times I've had conversations with Doctor Madden in the 'Exam Room'...about what's what....well, I couldn't count them. These folks are Professionals who give the time and expertise to help you along. Simply put, if Yelp had 10 Stars, I'd give them. This outfit is simply where you bring your Animal Friends for the care and love you'd expect for yourself. Hell, I wish my own doctor was half as observant and like Doc. Madden. Endure this pain for the sake of your pets.
