Although I wasn't available for the initial drop-off, Blake was incredibly helpful, insightful, and knowledgeable about this specific vintage model. When the work was finished, I finally had the chance to see the final product and meet Blake in person. The results definitely exceeded my expectations; the bike rides exactly as I imagine it would have coming straight out of the factory. They were also able to source parts and offered recommendations for modifications in the future. Furthermore, the pricing for the labor beat every other bike shop in the area. This is the second time I have used Sun & Ski sports to repair and get my mountain bike ready to ride. The price was even lower than what they quoted and the repair person Blake (I think, so sorry if I got the name wrong) came up with a super clever way to fix my bike, that ended up costing us way less. He also fixed my boy-friends bike. We used to go to Richardson Bikemart and they did an okay job, but they were more pricey and the wait times for repairs was usually pretty long, they also got a few things wrong, but ... Bottom line, sun and ski is a great place for bike repair that you might not know about. It's cheaper an quicker. So go check them out. It's never a bad time to ride. read more

I purchased a bicycle from a different Sun & Ski location the week before. I experienced several problems due to always having to remove the front wheel to fit the bike in my small trunk (no fault of the store or bike manufacturer). The brake wire on the handlebar eventually became dislodged. I called ahead to confirm I could bring my bike to this location. Chuck was AWESOME!!! They fixed the brake wire issue and checked the bike all cover. I purchased a bike harness to alleviate constantly removing the wheel. He really took his time to install it properly and securely to my vehicle. He explained the process along the way. It's obvious he is passionate about all things biking. I felt good and confident, happy that I won't beat my bike up anymore stuffing it into my trunk. Everyone in the bike shop and front check out counter was personable. Good customer service all around. I also plan to attend one of their free bicycle education courses and think it's nice that it's offered. I ordered a bicycle from BikesDirect.com. The bike shipped partially assembled and I put it together the rest of the way. I'm no expert and it needed some adjustments. My experience with the shop can be best summarized by the following. 1. Mismanagement of expectations 2. Made me feel uncomfortable about my purchase 3. Didn't take care of my problem 1: Mismanagement of expectations. They failed to establish value for the service in the eyes of the customer. If it was something quick, I was told over the phone they could take care of it right away. After a brief review, I was told I needed a full tune up with a 1 week turnaround. Not only was this not the $50 service described, it was $70. For all I know they just needed to make a few quick adjustments to the lines and I would be on my way. 2: Made me feel uncomfortable about my purchase. One thing you never do in sales is make the customer not feel okay. They berated my BikesDirect.com purchase decision with almost every other sentence. He stopped just short of telling me how poorly made my bike was and what a crappy job the Bikes Direct shop does. What does it matter if I brought in a $50 Walmart bike or a Specialized, S-Works, $15,000, carbon fiber stallion. Is this a bike shop? Do you fix bikes? I have a bike, a problem and cash. What else matters? 3. Lastly, they didn't take care of my problem. I needed a few quick adjustments to my cables so that I could go riding the next day. I didn't want or ask for anything else. All in all I made the repairs myself in under 45 minutes. Not to bad for someone without any experience. In a backhanded sort of way, I am thankful for the experience since it inspired me to solve my own problems. What they failed to notice was that while I was waiting, I was shopping for a new bike. Particularly a ladies bike. Maybe instead of buying one here. I'll order another one from BikesDirect.com. read more

Had a fine purchase, but my issue is that nobody offered to help me. I was buying chacos here because they had the color I wanted, and when you buy chacos they're supposed to adjust them. However, nobody greeted me upon walking in the door or checked up on me while looking at the chacos. Now my chacos are super hard to adjust, and I think I'm doing it wrong. They've gotten stuck, and I'm super frustrated that I went here instead of REI. However, the guy who checked me out was kind, and the store was well-kept. Hit or miss, I think. read more

The service here was very good when I first came in to look for a bike and purchased it, but it all went downhill after I purchased their 3 year warranty and took my bike in to get a minor fix. When I first came in they were really accommodating and let me try several different bikes and the guy helping us was friendly gentle with his guidance. After I pulled up my Orbea mountain bike to the register to purchase, they let me know about 3 year bike warranty provided through Sun & Ski themselves. Basically any manufacturers malfunction or abnormal wear and tear are covered to be fixed at any Sun & Ski location for three years. They let me know it was around $80 dollars so I purchased it which ended up around a $100 just for that warranty with the tax and what not. I kind regretted buying the warranty after but hoped that it'll be useful in the future. Well the opportunity came to use my warranty when the front fork lock out cap of my mountain bike suddenly popped off when I was riding it during my first time being on the trails. I was holding off on taking it to the shop just because I had several other plan to ride for the next few weeks and it didn't effect my riding at all but I finally took it in when I got the time. After explaining them what needs to be replaced and that I want a tune up and left, it took whopping 20 days to replace that one part for my bike. Anytime I would call every several days to check in on progress it took forever for them to pull up my info EVERY SINGLE TIME which clearly means they have a very unorganized system. They have computers and all so I don't know why they can't pull up information easily. They kept on telling me that my part still hasn't arrived yet when I would call or one time told us that they have no idea about my bike so call back when the manager is in, which is only once a week on Mondays. After basically giving up on checking in, they finally called that it's ready. When I picked it up I was charged for the fix which should be covered fully under my warranty so I had to point that out for them to change the total to 0 (they apologized and thanked me for keeping them accountable!). Ever since the fix I decided to go to different location of sun & ski any time I need their service which I did today. I went to the Dallas location to buy an inner tube for my mountain bike since they were punctured and their service was so FAST! Employee named David gladly took the tube off the counter and put it on for me for free (labor covered under warranty) right there and then! He looked at the condition of my bike and told me it needs some definite tune up, which was what I asked the Frisco location to do along with replacing my cap! After we explained to David about the experience at this location, he said the tune up that they either did or didn't do is horrible and that replacing the cap shouldn't have taken that much time at all. He even got upset and asked us the mechanic that worked on my bike from this location but I couldn't tell him because I didn't have my receipt at the time. Anyway, David did a great job tuning the bike for us and everything and I left feeling great. Never taking my bike in to Frisco location to get fixed again, I will be willing to drive few more miles to visit the Dallas location unless I'm just buying something quick. The Frisco Store and manager, Chuck, really helped and went out of their way to make my purchase easy. I wanted a Thule Cargo top Box (Force XT XXL), but the only one available in the area was at a store 40+ miles away. Chuck helped me purchase the box and had it transferred to his store, which is near my home. He stored the box at his store for a couple of days before I could get over to pick it up, then he helped me get it onto my vehicle and install it - even staying after the store was closed to help me. Came here on several occasions to comparison shop and price a bicycle for my 6 year old son who is just learning to ride and my 14 year old daughter who... Also is just learning how to ride (long story) and the staff here was very friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. The store take your old bike (if purchased from the store) and gives you 50% of the cost toward a new bike. So you never have to worry about growing out of the bike and having to pay the total cost for a new one. They even have very affordable bike repair and a decent extended warranty that can cover flats. Check it out. We made a significant purchase at the Dallas store on Sunday. Due to a major accident on I-30 Monday morning we could not get back to the Dallas store and had to go to Frisco. Big mistake. Oliver at the Dallas store was extremely helpful. The store manager at the Frisco store was extremely rude, insulting and lacked any degree of professionalism. Very messy store. Poor customer service experience. Older associate in his 50s checked out another customer waiting in line behind us. We had clearly been waiting in line first. (Will not say it's because of the color of our skin) but hey. The lady he checked out saw we were waiting but must have thought she was to good to wait like the rest us and asked him if he could check her out. While my husband and were in the store we did not like what we saw or heard and you could tell by the other employees that this was just not, "a one time thing." The point of yelp is to tell our experiences and that was ours and like I said in the beginning of my statement most of the employees are okay, but it take one bad apple to ruin an experience never the less the reputation of any store. Oh and FYI ... ANY reputable bike store they will let you test ride any bike w/ NO sales pitch so Jorge was not doing any favors! This review is for their ski merchandise and service. I can always find good quality ski clothes in the right size. Also, when I needed new boots, Eric helped me find and fit into the right boots. So far this season, the boots are great and so comfortable--like, "I can sleep in them" comfortable. It goes to show you that he knows what he is doing. I joined Sun & Ski (Frisco location) for a few Sunday rides after two friends bought rode bikes here. I only had a mountain bike at the time and the Sun & Ski staff allowed me to test ride road bikes (with NO sales pitch) to get a feel for what I wanted/needed. On the bike rides, I met a fantastic group of supportive cyclists who encouraged me (I was a total newbie), gave me advice on bikes, races, and training, and we're just in general super nice people. The group had a range of experienced cyclists, iron man finishers, leisure /social riders and new to cycling folks like me. When I decided to purchase a bike, I was confident that purchasing from Sun & Ski was the right thing to do. And Jorge who I had met and chatted with during the Sunday rides was who I wanted to buy from. Jorge knows his stuff, yet doesn't belittle you or act arrogant because you are newer to the sport. Instead of trying to sell me the most expensive bike in the store, he worked with me on finding a bike for my needs within my price range. And I couldn't be happier with my bike and the post-sale service I received. After a biking accident, I took my bike in to get checked out. Jorge fixed it quickly and then showed me how to fix it myself if it happened again. I really liked him showing me how to care for my bike rather than just shooing me out the door. Jorge also hosted a Fix a Flat workshop where I was able to get hands-on experience so that a flat wouldn't leave me stranded. Afterwards, my friends and I told him that we were taking part in a sprint triathlon in two weeks, and he offered to host a transition clinic to help us out. And although I have primarily been a customer of Jorge 's, I have had a great experience with the entire store. They have been absolutely fantastic to not only me, but my children as well. I greatly appreciate this store, it's staff, and the wonderful biking family I found here. This is an excellent store with very thorough knowledge of sports. I brought my bike in several months ago to be worked on and get into spec. I chose the store because of its location, cost, and ability to service my bike quickly. After my bike was repaired ($10 - significantly lower than competition) I went to pay. Upon leaving, Jorge, the bike manager asked me who I rode with on Sundays and invited me for their group ride. I have since attended every Sunday ride and love this store. I have recommended 3 or 4 of my friends to Sun and Ski because of the professionalism and the sincerity of it's employees. I will not contribute to the drama of the previous posts. I go into Sun & Ski with my boy Michael. Nice Sunday afternoon, store is not to busy with three customers in ski shop area, all three fitting boots . One sales guy qualified to do boots, so he says. Sales guy says he will do Michael and the other shopper at the same time. Strike one !, Michael is 14 yrs old, last year was his first year on skies and he skied five different times. This year he skied once at Brekenridge, had severe boot compression syndrome in the rental boots, rental dept. put him in another pair of boots with same problem arising on first run. Michael was in so much pain, he walked down the ski run with boots unbuckeled. Ok so here we are at Sun & Ski and this guy pulls out a pair of Soloman Quest Pro 110 (Strike two ! ) and manages to get a comfortable fit on Michael. We consider going up one shell size for Michael's growth and to be able to use boots the next seasons to come, sales guy says, if you buy a 29.5 ill write on the receipt that I recomended a 28.5, and that will limit your store warrenty with us. Strike Three! Your out. What kind of ski shop puts a 14 year old beginner intermediate skier in a performance boot made for the rec race type skiier, and the sales guy says if you buy the next larger size ill tell on you. ! What a roten experience this was. I can honestly say that iI will never consider Sun & Ski for anything what so ever. We have found a place to shop for ski equiptment in neighboring Mckinney, TX and plan on visiting there this comming weekend. From what I experienced with my boy and seeing the prices in Sun & Ski, I think they should change the store name to "Keep on Trucking" . Sincerely AK read more
