I recently had an excellent experience with Sun Devil Auto while passing through Mesa, Arizona, from South Carolina. My starter went out, and I was in a bit of a bind. I called Sun Auto, and they quickly provided me with a quote and even recommended a wrecker service. To my relief, the wrecker arrived within 30 minutes! By lunchtime on the same day, they had diagnosed the issue and informed me that my head gaskets needed replacing which is why my starter went out, since it was dripping oil on it. I was impressed with their pricing, which seemed very fair after I consulted my brother, who has experience in the automotive industry for the last 25 years. My representative, Samuel, was extremely nice and friendly. He was very knowledgeable and made the entire process smooth and stress-free. I asked them to expedite the repairs, and although they initially estimated two days, they surprised me by completing the job by the afternoon of the second day. I took my truck to this shop because of a driveline vibration. I was told my entire driveshaft was bent and needed to be replaced at a cost of about $1,400. Wanting a second opinion, I took it to another mechanic who inspected the truck and found the driveshaft was not bent. The issue was simply that the driveshaft was out of phase/timing and only needed an adjustment, which cost me about $100. The adjustment completely fixed the vibration. Based on my experience, I would strongly recommend getting a second opinion before authorizing expensive repairs here. I was nearly charged over $1,000 more than necessary for a problem that did not require driveshaft replacement. read more

When I first encountered this location - I thought they were great. I getting ready to leave discount tire when I recognized a noise when I pushed the button to start my vehicle- I knew it was just a matter of time when my battery would stop working. Sun Devil auto was just next door. They fixed me right up. Customer service was amazing as well as the speed of service. I have used them a couple more times since then and utter disgust for the manager and the service advisors on how I have been treated. I lodged a formal complaint and requested the regional director be looped in and outreach to me for additional details. First visit the DEF pump was causing the service light to turn on. My husband cleaned out the DEF sensor pump before bringing it in and after the mechanic reviewed the truck, they said nothing needed to be done and did not charge us anything. We were impressed with their honesty and didn't charge us anything. A few days later, my husband accidentally put regular gas in the diesel truck and caught it immediately, but we had to tow it here. They had to drop the gas tank and flush it out. No hesitation to bring it back to Sun Devil Auto. Grateful for the veteran discount too. We plan to come back for our next oil change. read more

I made a Saturday appointment for an oil change on their online scheduling system and they do not take appointments. They are walk ins and first come first serve only on Saturdays. That really made a mess of things and I don't recommend trying their scheduling online service. read more

I had a full synthetic oil change done at Sun Devil Oil change for $49.99 using their online coupon. That is a great price and about $35.00 cheaper than most places. Weekend appointments are on a first come first serve basis so they don't take appointments on Saturdays. The staff is very friendly and they are not pushy to make expensive repairs. They do make a full inspection and provide a report and photos of issues that should be repaired in the future. read more

Nightmare business, especially if you're female. Over the last 15 years I've done business there have not been happy a lot of the time but my experience around Christmas time was the worst ever do not take your vehicle here! I came in the store asked to have my air filter changed because it had been two years and I paid for a tire rotation with my oil change. I was shown on the screen pictures of a "not too bad" air filter by the scheduler. And given my tech report, paid and sent on my way. I get home and find there's no tire pressures listed on my tires. Why wouldn't you check that if you're rotating tires. I called the scheduler said "oh I forgot to put it in the computer. The tech report says normal at 35 psi for four tires and 60 psi for the spare". They're also was no charge for the air filter and the tech report said it needed to be changed. I asked scheduler about that and he said "oh sorry bring it in and we'll change it." And because it's been a year since the last time my tire pressure was checked during cold weather. I immediately drove to the discount tire next to Sun Devil auto. I knew 35 was wrong and the tech at discount tire verified. all four tires were at 31 psi and my spare is not a doughnut. It's a regular radial so at 60 would've been a nightmare and in fact, it was only 20 psi and basically flat. I immediately went back across the street and shared that information as both of the schedulers looked at each other and determined the falsifying fraudulent tech was that did the work on my car. I had to double check to make sure they even rotated the tires. I keep trying to go back, but there's always something one year. They busted the bolt off of my air filter housing. read more

I have safety concerns for future customers at Sun Devil... I wrote a good review about this shop two years ago, but I would like to share my most recent experience. I recently had an oil change and tire rotation here and I unfortunately experienced a distressing incident that compelled me to share my honest feedback. The first part was that after my oil change, they tried to sell me a new CV boot but I took my car to my mechanic and they said I did not need one... they tried to sell me something I did not need. That was not the safety concern and worst part of the experience though... I did not notice the issue until I ventured onto the freeway a couple days ago...driving at high speeds caused four of the lug nuts to fly off on my drivers side front tire. This jeopardized my safety and the life of my unborn child, as I'm currently seven months pregnant. I noticed the tire was about to come off when I was exiting the freeway because my entire steering wheel started to shake. It did not shake until after I got off the freeway...Thankfully I noticed and parked my car right away. The oversight of not tightening the lug nuts properly when doing my tire rotation could have led to a catastrophic accident. Thankfully, I managed to avoid disaster, but the incident has left me shaken and deeply concerned about the level of attention to detail at Sun Devil Auto. While I appreciate that they promptly towed my vehicle back to their shop and fixed the resulting damage to the hub assembly at no cost, the potential consequences of their oversight cannot be understated. I feel compelled to warn future customers to exercise caution and thoroughly inspect their vehicles after any service here. Safety should always be the top priority, especially when it comes to automotive maintenance. I urge this shop to implement stricter quality control measures to prevent such incidents from occurring in the future. read more

been here multiple times to do a oil change, every time they are supposed to rotate your tires, sometimes they'll even ask. The last three times I've noticed they have not. I thought the first time you know what OK it's fine. I brought it in last minute and they were barely able to squeeze me in for the day. I was fine with that. Second time I noticed it I brought it up to the manager and said hey did you guys rotate my tires? They told me yes. Knowing full well they did not because the ones that needed to be rotated had a lower tread, and color design designation. This third time I didn't do it at all. They even asked me. And told me that there was a nail in my tire which there was, but the tire needed to be replaced when in reality it was repairable. I went to discount tire and that's when they told me it was in a repairable spot. I am starting to lose trust in these guys. I will continue to use their oil change, but that is it for now. I am actively seeking different shops that can do what they say is in their services. I do not recommend going to this place to all the time and I'm frustrated because I thought I finally found a solid shop. read more

No E for effort from these guys. I wanted them to look at the door that wouldn't open and see why my 1993 Jeep was idling high. Not time consuming tasks, so Sid said to bring it on it. I was there before noon. I was told all their mechanic's were out to lunch and there were two cars ahead of me, that it would be a couple hours and he would call. At 5:30 I realized I hadn't heard from them and knew they closed at 6 so I called. Sid answered and said they would look at it first thing in the morning since the mechanic's all left at 5!!! I have things to do and can't leave it overnight and why hasn't anybody bothered to call me? They couldn't find 15 or 20 min to even look at it in the 5 and a half hours they had it? Then why have me bring it in?? And then not even bother to call me? To have such blatant disrespect for my time and effort (to have somebody follow me over there to both drop it off and pick it up) then not even bother to call? UNACCEPTABLE! I realize shit happens sometimes, but seriously pick up the phone. Don't assume I could give my car up another day and when I do go to pick it up, simply apologize, don't be such a rude jerk to me. They fixed it while we were on vacation and their pricing was better than any other place we had called. When we got back they had it ready. Frank the manager was amazing at getting me taken care of when there was an issue with my card. He stayed over to make sure it was all taken care of. DO NOT GO HERE! Hows this for starters: 1.) Got an oil change and my car overheated on the way home. Why? They forgot to PUT OIL IN, they only removed the oil!!! Do you even know the kind of wear that puts on an engine??? 2.) I have my brakes done on my BMW. I got from Mesa to Tempe, parked, then when I backed up, MY ROTOR FELL OFF! They never bolted it back on after the brake job. Manager: I wondered why there were parts left on his cart when he was done. 3.) Bad Battery. They tell me my alternator was bad, so I need Alternator, Belts, AND battery. I pay, but I keep my parts. I take my alternator to be tested and it was perfect. I had oil change done yesterday 11-27-21 on my 2007 gmc seirra 3500hd 4x4 6.6 deisel. Picked up truck drove it home and haven't drove it since. Walked out to go to breakfast and there's a puddle of oil all over the ground. It's leaking from the plug on the pan . Truck has never leaked. This place is a joke. We had shocks replaced a few years back and believed they were still under warranty. My wife called and he said to bring it in. Dropped it off at before 9:00am. At 5:55pm we called as we had not heard from them. They never even looked at it! Guy at the counter said they are a day behind. Why tell us to bring it in then!? Last service we had there they left the oil cap off and oil got everywhere, that was the last time we went there. Apparently nothing has changed! Don't trust them Sun Devil Auto! Came into the shop because the brake light on my dashboard popped up, they told me they had to look at my car to make an estimate. Took them 3 hours to get back to me with an estimate. Then told me my rotors are warped and needed them replaced. I just got my rotors replaced so I asked them if they could just replace the brake pads. Told me they couldn't and said that I had to replace both. So I picked up my car and took it to a different auto shop. They put in brake fluid and the light turned off , they checked my rotors and brake pads and said they were fine. Glad I went somewhere else for a second opinion. Don't trust sun devil auto they tried to make me pay for rotors and brake pads which is at least $500 for the service. They thought they could scam me because I was a young girl by myself. Worst experience. read more

My family has gone to this location now for over 3 years, and we are so glad we made the transition to this business. Bob, one of the main managers, is top notch. He is always friendly, honest, and upfront about service needs and requirements. I was speaking with him, and like he stated, the business really feels like a "family". Decor/Lobby: The shop has about 8 bays for work, which is great for the size of the location. Inside they have some seating, not too much, but enough if you're just stopping in for an oil change. Hot coffee, water, and a vending machine as well. Customer Service/Technicians: This is truly where this business shines. I have never had a single issue with this company. I have had horrendous service with companies in this area in regards to car maintenance and I'm glad they're honest. They can help if needed, and there is payment options via a credit card I believe, but don't quote me on it. Downside: The only thing I could find was the fact you can't bring in 3rd party parts and have them use those. Parts must come from in-house, or they will order them. I used to be able to bring brake pads in, before I did this on my own, and companies would use them. But from a insurance and liability point I understand. Take your car elsewhere! Got my oil changed (simple right? ) and got recommended a bs flush that the manufacturer of my car specifically recommends to not do. When I called them out on it, they said that that's regular practice and that's how they've always done it. Granted the guy was trying to look it up, but honestly they are not worth the cheapo oil change prices cause they always try to get you with something else. Also I came in and said, it'll be about an hour right? And he said 30 minutesish. Great. I waited an hour (there was no one else in the waiting room) and I had to go up to him and he finally said oh yea yours is done. They also did not honor their check in offer. I brought my scion in to have them listen to it and assess - didn't start quickly like it always has and had a weird little rhythmic sound that was new. Just had my oil and fluids flushed at a Brake Masters and my a/c refreshed, figured it was related. Nice guys at the counter, really kind and made it seem like no problem, they'd call me... didn't. At the end of the day I called them, hadn't gotten to it - fine, even though I don't have a car for 2 days now, fine. Called them the next day, hadn't gotten to it. Finally got a call from some shady new guy (my impression, not fact) that I needed a $4500 transmission. WOAH THERE. I think they somehow saw that I had just gotten new tires next door with my Synchrony credit card or something and didn't even evaluate the car. I had never been to this branch, only the Scottsdale one, but I live less than a mile away - really disappointed considering less than 5 years ago I got a transmission replaced at the Scottsdale branch. Guy seemed really surprised when I said I'll come get it, no thanks. I was REALLY happy with the Scottsdale branch but his one? Hard pass. Discount next door is awesome for tires, and I guess I'll just go back to Brake Masters. I took my car here in July for overheating. Nothing was found we did a coolant flush. About two weeks after my car over heated- radiator cracked hoses broke everything. I got everything replaced and was assured my car was safe to drive. Not even a week fallowing this incident I then had to take my car back because it was over heating. They didn't replace the thermostat. Now I've never heard of a mechanic replacing a radiator without a thermostat let alone assuring the customer that everything is good and safe to drive. I paid almost 600$ previously so I was shocked when I was quoted almost 300$ for a thermostat. I explained I didn't mind paying for the part (70$) but over 200$ in labor was ridiculous when they were irresponsible to begin with. They saw a 23 year old girl and tried to take advantage of her. When I explained this and then had to get my dad involved because I felt wronged they said they would take care of it. I picked up the car and what a surprise - I had to take it to another car place less then a week later because they didn't bleed the system after installing it. I had so many air bubbles I had to put a 1/4th gallon off coolant in my radiator. This business is irresponsible and I am yet again still dealing with a problem they assured me was fixed and I was safe to drive. Before bringing your car here keep in mind the amount of time and money wasted you'll be spending. Money was never an issue I wanted to ensure my safety when driving. And unfortunately sun devils professionalism and money hungry tactics will keep me from coming back. My car is still not fixed for a problem I was ensured was fixed. And honestly at this point I'm debating on filing a claim with my credit card company for a job that simply wasn't done. Be wary taking your car here.
