Amazing service. Amazing staff. Overall a good place to check out in metro Vancouver! Highly recommend it

I've been going to this place since it was Austin Diner (previous owners). When it changed hands, I found that the food wasn't as good as Austin Diner was, but it was still acceptable. I ordered from there today and because I had a long drive ahead of me, I asked for my take out order of bbq pork and vegetable chow mein to be packaged separately so that the noodles didn't get soggy. They charged me $1 extra for the extra container (which was the size of a medium soup bowl). They can see from my history that I am a regular customer, and they're going to charge me for a container? So ok, charge me what it costs. Don't mark it up. Then when I got there to pick up my order, I stood directly in front of the cashier's counter where two ladies were speaking to each other in either Cantonese or Mandarin, and didn't even acknowledge me with a smile or a nod or a hello. After they were finished with their conversation they handed the bag to me and said "$14.50". I handed over my debit card and was ignored the rest of the time. I can't stand it when businesses nickle and dime their customers, and it's worse when they, not only don't provide at least decent customer service, but are absolutely rude to boot. To finish it off, the bbq pork was tough, which I've never experienced before. I'm never going back. read more

Sun star is one of the regular places we order from because it's so close to our house! The food is actually pretty good from here. We have only ever ordered take out and it is always steaming hot when we get it! read more

I don't know what just happened. I thought I was ordering from Sun Gong Chinese on North Road and Clarke. I guess my takeout menu was a bit dated because my combo "A" was different than what I ordered, and the takeout menu included was from Sun Star Restaurant instead! I'm guessing Sun Gong closed and Sun Star snapped up the number (explains why there's three phone numbers listed). So I think "that's weird" but I'll give it a try (what else am I going to do?!), and it was not good. Everything's really greasy and dry. My order was sweet and sour pork, egg fried rice, chicken chow mein, vegetarian egg roll, and wonton soup. The only thing I haven't tried is the wonton soup, but I've completely lost my appetite, and I couldn't imagine that it would be any better than the other dishes. Even if it was, it definitely isn't worth ordering from this place. read more

It is clean, friendly and not expensive place to eat. Yes, they don't have a perfect English but you can always drop by and order from the menu - it takes 10-15 to prepare basically any order. Menu is huge, and portion are big so order something that you know and tried before (e.g. Fried rice or chow mein) read more

Have eaten here in past. But past was my last time. Recently ordered dinner for two with a Hot & sour soup. Frozen vegetables in my soup. Who does that? My spring rolls were BOTH empty. The beef chop Suey tasted fishy, chow mein was so soft I could not eat it. And I am not a fussy eater and rarely write a review. I called to complain and they couldn't understand enough English to rectify my order or understand my complaint. They must think people will eat anything. read more

We were very disappointed with our order for delivery. Everything we ordered tasted awful, including almond chicken which we love every other time we have had it at other Chinese restaurants. This was coated in sugared almonds and the bottom of the pieces were soggy. The corn and chicken soup was slimy and inedible. The other 3 simple dishes, beef chop suey, bbq pork fried rice and chicken chow mein were edible, but nothing special. We won't order there again. Big disappointment. read more

Sometimes you are hungry and just crave for basic N. American simple Chinese food like Sweet and sour pork, next to some stirfry vegetables and a bed of stirfried rice or noodles, then this is it. The same could be had if you went to the T&T and ordered takout but unless you live next to a T&T, its not convenient. I wouldn't drive out of my way to eat here as I'm sure most communities have something similar. I just can't get over ordering eggs and toast from a Chinese restaurant. doesn't seem right but you can aswell. I have no plans on ordering that anytime soon here. read more

One of a few Chinese we would get take out from or delivery locally. They have moved to be our top of the list / go to recently as the food has improved greatly with great flavours and portions. V v tasty and great delivery service. read more

It's a diner that does Chinese. Great value for breakfast and lunch. Simple, fast and filling. Great serving staff, a shout out to Sue. Now attached to Ramada Coquitlam, making a stay at that hotel more enjoyable. read more

Loved it when it was the Austin Diner. Went there almost every Sunday as their breakfasts were cheap and good. The new decor is very nice and they have great waitresses but they have no idea how to do breakfast anymore. Had eggs Benny with eggs almost raw and they have no idea how to cook hash brown potatoes, Well done means burned on one side and raw on the other. I had to send it all back and it was still inedible the second time. Unless they get a new cook who knows how to cook breakfast food I'd say don't bother. read more

Decent cheap Chinese food but the other more western dishes on their menu are horrible. Ordered the chicken cordon blue, it was mostly cold and everything tasted like it was out of a can (I did order this from a Chinese food restaurant after all). The Chinese food was mediocre at best, but is close, cheap and delivery is always quick. Sign says free delivery but there is a delivery charge listed on the receipt. read more

Food: Portion's huge, I'd say good value. BUT: Don't order from the just-eat or their sunstar(dot)com website. Not only do they not have your pickup order on time (the website says it'll be ready in 15min, I visit 20min after ordering and it's still not ready...) they also upped the prices and didn't update the website. Moreover they will screw you over ever just so slightly that it's not even worth bringing it up. For example my delivery order total was $40.32, and their receipt says $42.55. I know, 2 dollar difference, no big deal right? I just thought it was the delivery fee or something, but the same thing happened on my pickup order. The total on the justeat website was $12.55, their receipt says $13.64. I ask what's up and they go "Our prices went up and the website didn't change yet." First off, shame on you as a business not updating that regularly, and bullsh*t, the flyer they gave me still said $11.95 for beef rice noodle, not $12.99 like what the lady Christy punched in. Then she acts like she's doing me a huge favour and says "ok we'll give you good price," and she punches in $11.99. (Umm. You guys aren't a street vendor who haggles.... but anyways.) Ok still 4 cents, no big deal I know, but what I mind is their nonchalant attitude in ripping off customers in this itty bitty, teeny tiny way. What's to say they don't do this or commit dishonesty in bigger things (gasp, tax evasion!)? Keeping this in mind, I wouldn't recommend this place as an honest place to friends, but hey, if you want cheap filling chinese and are willing to brisk off the slight rip off, go ahead. read more

Best ginger beef in the world love this place. Everything we get from them is fresh and in really good containers for leftovers. Yum yum.

Thought I was going to the Austin Diner (which was GREAT!) & found out it had been bought out by these new people. I figured I might as well give them a try. I ordered a combo plate to go & ask that they split it into 2 takeout containers. (the combo plates at the Austin were enough to easily feed 2 people). They informed me that the takeout container would cost .50, & I said "Really, are you kidding me?!, well ok go ahead. Then they said it would be another .50 to split it! I left at that point. It was just too ridiculous for me. I should have tweaked to the fact that there was only 1 couple eating there at dinner time on a Sunday! I will definitely not be returning! read more

This place used to be called the Austin heights dinner. It has been completely renoed on the inside and while the same had working staff remains its under new ownership. They will tell you it's the same as it used to be but it's so much better. It's been a long long long time since the Austin heights dinner was as good as the new sun star is. I've been a few times and ordered a variety of dishes, their western Chinese food is good. I really like the wonton soup. It's very reasonably priced and there's a huge serviing . Thier fish and chips are extremely good. Big pieces of cod. Again reasonably priced. If you went away from this dinner because it had gone down hill in the past few years you should go back, it's one of the best of this kind of eatery in the gva. Cheap fast and good. read more

Just came home from having a disappointing dining experience at Sun Star Restaurant. Ordered spaghetti and meatballs which was more like spaghetti in tomato soup - nothing that resembled spaghetti sauce. Ordered Turkey dinner and there was so much fat and grisly parts that was unbeatable. When brought to the servers attention our disappointment in our meals, the manager did not come to address our concerns. When we approached the manager we were told that the chef said that there was nothing wrong with our food. Poor customer service and even poorer food quality will find us no repeat customers and do not recommend them to others. read more

Soooooo disappointed tonight. Usually the take out order arrives quickly and hot. Tonight we waited 1.5 hours and no order had been delivered. Called them and they said they only had 2 drivers on and that it would be here very soon. At the 2 hour mark we called again. They said let me check on it. They called back and said the driver's car broke down. Hmm which is it. I prefer the truth. Finally it arrived over 2 hours later. It was missing the second boneless pork we specifically ordered to bring up the cost to get a free dish of free prawns. But no prawns included with the order. Called back to ask where the prawns were. They said you didn't order enough. OMG no wait OMFG. Where was the customer service? A phone call when they saw that orders were not being delivered even at 2 hours would have been in order at the very least. Oh but we did get free egg rolls that they added which by the way we don't like. Man this was bad! It did not help that I really needed to eat a Snickers bar. I was so hungry. Not sure we will order from them ever again and we were regulars. It was that bad and I want to feel like a customer that is appreciated. read more

Terrible! Friends and I ordered three meals at 6:00 PM and were told they would be delivered by 6:55 PM. They call at 7:00 PM asking for clarification as to which building and number townhouse we live at, but still hadn't delivered by 7:15 PM, so we called back to check and make sure they hadn't delivered the food to the wrong house. We were told by a very unfriendly lady that "deliveries went out twenty minutes ago, so it should be on its way, and there is no way to get in touch with our delivery driver to know whether it's been delivered or not yet." Food finally arrived at 7:30 PM (35 minutes later than the expected delivery time), and everything was wrong. We ordered three meals: 2 fried rice, vegetables, and sweet and sour porks, and 1 fried rice, vegetables, and prawns. We received two messes of fried rice, chow mein, and sweet and sour pork, and one mess of fried rice, chow mein, and vegetables. By that point we were sick of dealing with the restaurant and late to go out with friends so we didn't bother phoning back and talking to the snarky lady who answered the phone again. Will not order from there again. read more

2 years going there....used to be good. this time they took 45 mins to bring food at 525 pm the sweet and sour pork had NO sweet and sour sauce. i called they told me no problem. 30 mins later i called again and she said they were bringing new food. 635 pm the guy comes with sauce, now i got cold food with sauce. i called back to ask what happened and there was no food coming and no discount nothing just too bad so sad. never going back.....the place has gone to crap. then they called me and offered a refund and 1.5 hours later i called to ask what happened and they said no refund just discount next time you come....LOL WHY WOULD I EVER COME BACK read more

I love the food there, i also loved it when it was called Austin diner. I've been there before. I've been going there for a while now actually, but this time was different. As we ordered our food the lady repeatedly said are u sure, it big pancakes and just kept asking if i was sure about my order, i continuously said yes(slowly getting angry). The lady doubted my hunger and how angry i could get. I think she assumed that my mother and I were stupid or something because apparently we couldn't put in our own tip. She then said as we paid that she under estimated me. As she handed my mother the machine to pay she then took it back and said here let me do that stuff, she put in her own tip and pressed okay and stuff. I was standing with my mom the whole time, i then said to her after she did that that we could have done it our selves, i then walked out. But i will say that the food was good besides this one encounter with her. read more
